- Rebecca Schaeffer was born in Eugene, Oregon on November 6, 1967 to parents Benson and Danna Schaeffer. She was a model and actress of television and films. Starred in the eighties comedy series 'My Sister Sam' opposite Pam Dawber. Killed in the doorway of her Los Angeles apartment on July 18, 1989 by an obsessed fan. Laid to rest at the Ahavai Sholom Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.

I taught Rebecca art history ,while she was in school when she was living in New York. She was one of those students that you could never forget. Beautiful person with a wonderful spirit.

So true. About a week before this, a friend's daughter that had left Eugene, Oregon to strike out on her own in California was killed in a car accident. Brought back home to lay in rest. She was only 19.
She'd be 51 by now, about to 52. I can't believe it's been 30 years! She was my age when she was killed. 21, to have your whole life stolen by one person in an act of violence. May your soul be at peace, and in heaven with your family.
God she was so achingly beautiful and talented. I despise what happened to her. It isnt fair.
I think about her from time to time, all these years later, her life definitely had an impact... It was such a senseless act of violence that took her life... I hope she’s at peace, complete peace in every way... Gone but not forgotten ...
She was her own star, and a Natural Beauty! She had a twinkle about her, I am sure her parents continue to suffer, but the soul has a unique way of finding peace, so I believe. Perhaps that can be and has been relief emotionally. What a tragic waste of beautiful talent and an untainted soul! Rest in Peace.
I sometimes wonder how huge of a Star she would have become if she had lived. She was already a megastar but perhaps she would have been a legend or Oscar winning actress in 2019. Rest in peace angel you remain in our hearts always.
I believe if she was in the Coppola movie? Even if she did not win an Oscar, her career would have skyrocketed from that role alone.
@@matthewkessler2366 And from what I have read about the casting for that role (I have not seen that movie) first Winona Ryder was cast and dropped out and Sofia Coppola was cast when she had not had much acting experience and her acting was panned so it seems certainty Rebeca would have gotten that role

July 18, 1989 Hollywood received the biggest wake up call ever... So sad that the anti stalking law came into force after this tragedy. The rules and regulations of DMV also changed after this tragedy. But that's not going to bring the beautiful rose back...

I turn 50 this year, and I just realized it was 29 years ago this Wednesday that this beautiful spirit, this gorgeous talented lady so close in age to myself was taken from us. I remember i t vividly because it was a week and a day before my 21st birthday...I could show you exactly where I was sitting when John Pruitt, a beloved local anchorman, told me police were still searching for her killer...and now all I could do was scream "What?!?" at our TV. My poor Mom thought I'd flipped (she didn't remember her at first). I cried so many tears that week...and I find myself misty eyed tonight at the memories. I feel cheated of not getting to see her become the actress so many knew she was becoming. I miss you lady...with all my heart. I never knew you, but I miss you and I can NEVER forget you. Love to you, your friends and family. Rest in peace.
I COMPLETELY understand..... it hurts sooooo much going down this road AGAIN I too was Greatly IMPACTED by this senseless violence. I am glad that they do NOT name the killer that was a nut-job. No attention to him.

I agree,Even her fans were cheated by never being able to see her grow as a woman and as an actress,but more importantly,a woman.I hate not being able to control situations and I still get so frustrated that some loser killed her and I can't bring her back.That magnificent Woman is gone and the loser is still here living off my/our tax money.....
This still makes me so sad. She only was able to live a quarter of her life because of this senseless act. Imagine what she missed and what all of us missed by losing her and her wonderful talent.

I’m glad her killer’s name has not been mentioned here. He was nothing to her, she didn’t know he existed. He came out of nowhere and took her life away. There shouldn’t be a connection between everything she was and anything he was. She had so much to live for and so much yet to do. All she could scream out was ‘why? Why?’a question that has no answer. It’s so sad
She was too kind to realize she needed to protect herself, not have her name on her mail box and stay private like Pam Dauber told her to do so.

30 years ago today, a bright star was unfortunately snuffed out before it had a chance to rise, Rebecca Lucille Schaffer was assassinated by a so called zealous admirer, she was the star of the T.V show "My Sister Sam", & at the time, was in her 1st feature film "Scenes from the Class Struggle in Beverly Hills ", one can only imagine what career she would have had, at this point, she would have been 52,perhaps a wife & mother. "Of all the words of pen or tongue, the saddest of these, it might have been "- John Greenleaf Whittier. 😢

I believe she shouldn’t have moved into her own place until she could afford one with proper security. She had been living with Pam Dawber + her husband but moved because she wanted her own place.

Before she moved to Sweetzer she was living in the Hollywood Hills, in a more isolated place. She had to move because the owners decided to sell the house and that's when she moved to the apartment on Sweetzer.

For one she had no where to stay and Pam thought it was a good idea for them to live together to get to know each other and be more believable as sisters on screen. Then she moved to Laurel Canyon, then on to Sweetzer.

So many what ifs..what if she had phoned the police the first time he rang her door bell, what if she had reported him sooner, maybe studio execs would have gotten her a body guard. I dunno. This makes me sad every time I read or hear about it.
Stalking wasn't taken seriously back then so phoning the police would have likely done nothing.
Well basically,Rebecca didn't know she was being stalked,even though he had showed up at Warner Brother's studio where she was working in 1987.She never knew and she died not knowing why someone would want to hurt her.Her last words were in the form of just one question,"Why,Why?"No one had really discussed this incident with her,because like J.J said,stalking wasn't taken seriously back then.Even after John Lennon was killed by an obsessed fan just Years before...

@@tynicole88 Rebecca had no reason to call the police. Her first meeting with him was fine. He left and went to get something to eat, then decided to return. Going by his testimony, she had told him the first time not to come back because she was busy, which was the truth. Shortly after the first news cast, his sister called the LASD and said it might be my brother, do to a letter and conversation she had with him the day before. Rebecca's parents went to her apartment later that day and found two letters, One from 1986 and one from 1987 from him. One of the detectives was still there and said they had been through the two sacks of fan mail she had and said there was a lot more letters from him. She kind of knew him through those letters, and the photo of her that he had with him, her parents remember her sending it, and mentioning his name. Rebecca had no reason to think this fan that liked her so much would kill her. Everyone told her not to get too personal when replying to fans, and told her not to put her name on her call box. It is too bad we can not live in a world where we can be ourselves all the time. Rebecca was just being herself. And even though she was only here a short time, She brought a lot of joy and happiness into peoples lives. people talk about Angels in Heaven. If there ever were Angels on earth, she was one of them.

Nope, they moved time slot and it couldn’t compete with the Facts of Life as I understand. To be completely honest, I was 11 and 12 when this show was on, and although I watched a lot of TV sitcoms at the time, i do not remember this showing w My Sister Sam at all.
