- 21 yr actress Rebecca Schaeffer was stalked by a crazy fan named Robert John Bardo for many years and was unfortunately murdered by him in 1989. I visit Rebecca's grave which is near portland oregon.

This was hard for me, I was a teen and this is how I found out about stalking, loved her show
I was a little bit younger then Rebecca and always thought she was one of the most beautiful and best! I hope she knows her fans still love her!!!!
Same, barely fifteen. I adored her and I was horrified by this story.
I was very young as well in my early teens but I remember when this happened and I too is how I found out about stalking
I wish that he had been arrested when he came to the set with a knife, and I wish that private investigator had refused to give him her address. I think the PI should've been held partially responsible for her death.
He should have been arrested for at least the 2nd time for threatening and bringing the knife on set. I totally agree. Sad but now stalking laws are a thing. Back then, they didn't have the same laws

It wasn't private investigators. This man went to the BMV or the v Post vv Office it v was on e of them and THEY gave this man her address. That is why now you cannot go to any license branch. Post office etc etc and get an address it was to easy at that time. She would still have her life if this info wasn't so damn rady!!!!!!

This without a doubt was absolutely tragic!! It's such a shame that Rebecca lost her life to a very deranged individual!! I simply cannot comprehend why people do the things that they do!!!

One correction to your story: Robert John Bardo travelled by bus from his home in Tuscon, Arizona to the LA area. After he murdered Rebecca, he successfully made it back to Tuscon by bus. The day after the murder, he was seen running through traffic on Interstate 10. Police apprehended him and that is when he confessed to the murder. The cop that arrested him was Linda Ronstadt's brother, Peter Ronstadt.

Her story is so sad. The private investigator definitely should have been held partially responsible.
I 100% agree. It's possible he would track her down eventually but still the investigator basically handed her to him on a platter. 😢

July 18 1989,rebecca stalked, and killed on this day, the obsession had turned nasty, a famous actress took it personally, a sick mind ,Rebecca needed to die,Robert went to the street where she lived, asked for an autograph, if she refuses, she would die, she asks why , before she died,he confesses, life term in prison for Robert🚩✅💲
@@InfamousCrimeLocations What if the PI didn’t even know who Rebecca was? It’s not like she was already really famous at the time of her death, she was just starting to get known. I didn’t know who she was nor had ever heard of her until after her murder. Not justifying the PI whatsoever, but of course nor the PI nor anyone else would of willingly gave out her information had they suspected or sensed any malicious intent. Also remember that this was in the 80s, back then it was lawful and a normal practice for people to pay a minimal fee to the DMV for someone’s info (which that’s how the PI got Rebecca’s info), but precisely due to this incident is when the laws/regulations changed in that respect.

Sad that this tragedy took place before more stern laws were implicated to stop personal address information from being given to others.
It always seems that it takes a tragedy for lawmakers to finally step in and realize that certain things should be illegal

I watched it a lot too. I’ll never forget when my My mom told me she was murdered. It really affected me because I loved her character. I was early teens. RIP Rebecca. So many people loved you. God bless.

Ooooh, i remember this. I think it's what made stalking like a crime. He found her from dmv records and it was HUGE. I lived in LA at the time, so it was everywhere... so sad

Rebecca Schaeffer was in the TV series "My Sister Sam" and the theme song for the show began with "Everything starts with a knock on your door. You don't know who it is but you know who it's for". I wonder if there's a connection between the song and the murder or if it's just an eerie coincidence.

Hard to believe so much time has passed as I can remember vividly when this happened. It was one of if not the first stalking murder I had ever heard of. It was a blow to the innocence of youth. RIP to a beautiful, forever young lady. 🌻

A tragedy which should never have happened. Bardo was more than a "crazy fan." He was an obsessive stalker who paid a private investigator to obtain a DMV record of her driver's license which, in turn, led to her home address. After Rebecca's murder, California changed its laws to prevent a repeat occurrence.
Bardo made it all the way back to Tucson Arizona after the shooting, where he was arrested about a day later. Rebecca was waiting for a script to be delivered that day, and I think that's why she was answering the door so readily. May she rest in peace, very sad.
Yes. He was playing in traffic on the freeway. He essentially confessed afterward. He was reported to be somewhat mentally ill. Prior convictions for criminal misconduct, DV, and other offenses. He was also “institutionalized” for about a month at one point. It was said he was bipolar. No telling for sure, but he was clearly a head case.

She died on my oldest sister birthday. My sister just turned 50 on July 18th of this year. I'm so so sorry for her family's loss. I can't imagine what she went through.

I was so devastated when this happened. My Sister Sam was one of my favorite shows, mostly because of Rebecca. Teenage, innocent me just couldn't believe something like that could happen. Sadly, I know better now. Love & hugs, Harmin 💗

I used to watch My Sister Sam as a teen in the 80s. This case floored me when I hear what happened. Her movie career was about to take off. I read she was offered The Godfather 3 before she passed. That monster is where he belongs
