RDJ did such a good job in Tropic Thunder playing Kirk Lazarus. So I can’t wait to see this series. I’m a so happy he reclaimed his life from SUD, and then some.
All his roles (CIA, Professor, Congressman, Actor) like symbolize POV of the captain: those american involve in his mission are the same (have theirs own interest, some twisted mind....).
Some people say that he plays the 4 characters because they all share similar characteristics etc. I thought it was as simple as how "ignorant" Americans think people of Asian ethnicity all look the same whereas we get the Captain's point of view and "ignorantly" to him, all white Americans look the same. I can understand the "similar characteristics" viewpoint but i think simpler would have been just as good. Or maybe I'm the ignorant one 🤷🏾♂️ either way, I'm really enjoying the show and I can't wait for episode 7.
I thought of it as they all have underlying ignorance and rightiousness that keeps them blind from the Spy under their nose. It gets The Captain into America, into the Studies Department, it gets him onto the movie set, and into the political ranks. They dont think of him as a threat and throw him bones totally oblivious to the fact hes picking them apart from the inside
I like Downey but this made me cringe, I don't think it works. It may be because I can't help thinking about the stellar performances given by Peter Sellers playing 3 roles in Dr Strangelove. Three completely distinct characters. I know people who have watched that and didn't realize it was the same guy playing those different roles. Or maybe I am missing something as it relates to the translation of the story as written down by the main character to reality.
RDJ playing 4 characters is on purpose. They want to show some similarities. Park Chan-wook said "They were sharing one body with many faces" basically representing America as a whole.
@@alyanadhirahr its quite interesting how from the narrator's POV, every major white man looked the same. Yes the series finale gives more of an explanation rather than a payoff.
Disgraceful that Robert Downey J6. Has so much air time. He is made the star over the Vietnamese characters. He is in every scene. He is a braggart. Spoiled it for me.
So disappointed in the choice of Downey. Did Nguyen need money that bad from team Downey. I would have preferred lesser known actors playing each of Downey’s characters. That choice turned the series into a showcase for Downey. And he is a camera hog. Very distracting from the notion of featuring Vietnamese actors. And BTW, having Oh playing a Japanese woman! Were there no ethnic Japanese available? Guess the producers decided they needed big names and money behind the series. Nguyen lost faith in his own sense of authenticity.
I'm sad this show is not getting the recognition it deserves. I truly hope it gets it's recognition at the Golden Globes and Emmys.

Ugh. Did you watch any of that series? 😌
@@joko09010 I'm on episode 4 rn. Episode 3 was crazy to watch with all four RDJ's characters in one place. how did they do that????

Just so much fun to watch him act. The whole show, it's been said obviously, how it's so zany yet heartbreakingingly dramatic. 10/10
Downey is great in this. The claw hand reminded me of Kansas conservative Congressman Robert Dole who had a similar war injury to his right arm.
The trailer didn't sell me the sympathizer but this video did.
Robert Downey Jr. doesn't drop character 'till he has done the youtube commentary.
RDJ is the best .Sympathizer could not make it without RDJ.
Disgraceful
Someone give this man an Emmy, Golden Globe and a BAFTA for this show….
White man steals all the honors in this supposed Vietnamese actors film. Shameful. But of course he will take cause he is a star hog.

I never thought that I’d hate RDJ’s face so much before this episode. He played his role so well. 😆
Who could do better than RDJ in this spying black comedy drama. I think it's genius to have RDJ for all 4 roles and Hoa Xuande as the captain.
RBJ❤❤❤
Its rare to see Robert Downey Jr playing 4 main antagonists in the same movie series
You can’t lose with RDJ.❤❤
Great Actor 👍. Love him.❤
I like the job that he did in u.S marshall When Robert downey junior went up against wesley' Snipe Before they were iron man and blade
His multiple characters were actually what brought the show down unfortunately. Probably should’ve just kept one role
Agree. This white guy was too much. Viet did not have faith in the Vietnamese characters. Had to get big stars Downey and
Oh. Shame
RDJ looks like Ronald Reagan
Looks abit like Quentin Crisp with that suit, cravat and pointy hat.
So he's a dude playing a dude playing multiple other dudes?
Downey has become a bit of a Peter Sellers, with this playing multiple characters thing.
Chernboly good

Susan dropping that little hint about episode 7 makes me think it's building to some sort of payoff all this

Yeah downey was major cringe throughout.
Show was great but his multiple performances def hurt it more than helped, in my opinion
❤❤❤
GOD..RDJ DONT DO THAT AGAIN
Robert Downey, i love him, he is greatest actor
