1. MAINTENANCE - not just oil EVERYTHING done on time, always
2. No mods without a tune
3. Check for rust, then check again
4. Get a shop to do compression tests. Please
5. Mileage - If it's near 100k, has it had timing belt and water pump done?
I honestly love my wrx more than anything, but I wish i saved up for an sti solely for the 6 speed

I paused to look for a car since where I live in Edmonton, Alberta it's winter time & maintaining any car will be a hassle with all the salt, dirt & potential hazards (Karens & their AWD SUV with all seasons that crash into anything especially). I am fixed on the BRZ 2015-2017 model or WRX 2016-2017 for sometime Summer.

I mostly night drive but still a risk lol, I flew past a state patrol that already had someone pulled over, slammed it to the floor right as I was coming up on him. Bitched out immediately though and took the next exit just Incase 😂😂

Ive driven a 350z compared to my Volkswagen UP. Im a pretty good driver but that 350z legit made my hands sweat with the amount of power i had under my feet on 1 pedal. I havent bought a car but i have been looking at a little less power on my first car now that i know that i will most likely kill myself with such a high powered car because i am just not experienced enough to drive it yet. No matter if i find myself a good driver or not.

Honestly, I disagree with a little with the 240sx (keyword a little it's all good, I totally understand your points). I think once you get it into working condition it can be as practical as any car so long as you only ever need two seats. And I refute the budget with the fact that they are sold quite cheap currently. All you have to do is gradually work your way up. I think assuming it's in working condition and you're not some reckless driver, it will be suitable. But that's just me, a lot of people will disagree.

@@UhKimboze Still not a good first car there are way better options than a 240sx for the same money. To even get a good working condition one that you can daily is no easy feat as well especially to get one at a reasonable price. As for the ones that are sold quite cheap they barely run and are basically held together by rust and zip ties. Plus come on man it's a 240sx you can't expect to buy one and not be reckless once in a while.
@@HimmelWeintHimmel if you say so. I've thought about it. Think, driving smart isn't that hard and you don't need a 240 that's functional off the bat anyway. Part of the fun was the build. I got it when I was 13 and finished working on her before I earned my license. That's why you start early. It was my first car and it was perfect for me.

Not sure how long you guys had it. It’s my first car and I’m about to sell it after 6 months. Super fun to drive but hate the fact that I can’t run fast with a fast car. 3 tickets and almost go to jail for this shit. I’m out. I’ll get it again later for weekend fun but definitely not daily.
@@ralphdevinfung8055 i have the 2017 ecoboost and it is fun and had it for about a year now i do daily mine and love it great gas and has some good speed obviously it aint a GT but i chose a ecoboost because i wanted balance since it wont be in a drag race.

I think its only real based on region. I just went on facebook marketplace and looked for some. We have plenty that are between 2k and 5k. All running non drift missiles. Of course some have issues like paint fade, and no a/c or a leak of some sort but otherwise nothing thats gonna break the bank.
In my area the 2-5k you'd be lucky it had and engine. Most are beat up, especially if you're looking at a WRX. Friggin Northern Minnesota I tell ya.

I went from a 1994 Geo Prizm to a 17 Mustang GT. Very drastic difference but it's been an absolute charm to drive as a daily. Haven't had any issues with the cops, even with it having long tube headers and a catback exhaust. Guess it depends where you live.
I just got my first car at 16 a couple weeks ago, I got a manual 2012 Chevy Camaro LTE, it’s black with red brake pads and I love it!

@@10RBREEZY fun fact, insurance on mustangs (unless you’re a bad driver with a crappy history) is actually super reasonable. I pay less than 1300 PER YEAR. I’m also a young guy & I’m still getting that pricing. It’s all good, and with regards to “noise”, just don’t straight pipe it and you should be good!

Had to sell because it was my daily driver at the time and flooded way too often due to short commutes :( BUT would absolutely buy another one as long as I have a daily driver as well (maybe with a turbo :D)
I HAVE actually seen a 240 that was garaged, unmodified (completely stock), in fantastic condition.
Oh, and daily driven.
That's how you do it, buy it, keep it, and maintain it.

i agree with what you said on the mustangs. my first car was a 2000 rwd S10 and i learned my lesson with rwd in the snow... alot... never hit a curb in that truck but i spun out alot. i bought a 05 mustang after that so i learned my lessons long before i got behind the wheel of that car.
V8's get bad gas mileage? HAH, **Laughs in Grandpa as I cruise on the highway in 8th gear at less then 1K RPM and get 27.7MPG, even in V8 mode**

My Mustang does 60 mph in 5th gear at around 2.5k RPM. 4.10 gears.
4th gear takes me from 40 mph to 100 pretty quickly. Mustangs are good highway cruisers.

Definitely 110% agree on the saloon. Got an old straight-six Mercedes S-class W140 that's been great to me ever since getting it aside from a slight misfire because a sparkplug decided it didn't like existing. Yeah maintenance was a weenie but I could haul the boys ins tyle and we all loved it. A good saloon land boat is hard to go wrong with as a first car because its slow and you'll learn real good how to back up and judge spaces.
First car with my name on it was an F30 328i. Had it for 3 weeks and it's been at a service center for the past week. Love the car though!

You definitely would I had a wrx for my first car. Absolute dream car except 3 months in it started having so many issues. Dropped 5k to keep it alive and it still had issues. Horrible experience.

Personally I recomend getting a 2 door truck if you want something a little sportier that you can work on you can drift them they are normally reliable they are practical it's definitely worth looking into for your first car
My first car was a 1999 ford escort ZX2. Those headlights were so cool to me, wrecked it and got 2001 of the same car but In green, to a 2002 single cab tacoma, to a 2015 subaru outback, to my now baby 2019 civic hatchback

@@kiwizlucks4947 might depends on where you live. I personnaly own a 2013 V6 mustang and the insurrance are around 170$ a month where i am. You could also call the insurrance company and tell them exactly the car you might buy and they could tell you what you will pay

I drive my Mustang every single day. I use it both to get to work and just to make a ride. Luckily I acquired a lot of experience how to control the car both on dry and wet/snow tarmac - never made any accident. And yes, that's my first car :) I think the most important thing has been already said in film - the problem is not a car, the problem are testosteron, lack of imagination if you hit throttle pedal etc. For responsible owners, whose main goal is to be happy of possesing such fabulous masterpiece, Mustang can be the best (even first) car to own. I'm pretty sure that mine (2007 4.6L V8 GT) is indeed the best one I've could ever imagined. God bless Mustangs and their drivers :)
My first car was 1998 Saab 900s 5MT. The clutch was unforgiving, but that made it all the more satisfying once I finally mastered it. I would have gotten to drive it a lot longer if not for my own carelessness. It wasn't fast or sporty, but very smooth and great for road trips. I still miss that car.

My first car was a 2003 WRX. Let me tell you, it forced me to learn how to work on cars real quick. Also learned a lot about how turbo systems, awd drivetrains, and manual transmissions work. It was 100% worth the headache and I would definitely own one again, once I can afford to put up with reliability issues again lol. I sold it to buy a 350z because I needed something more reliable that I wouldn't have to modify to enjoy. I don't regret my choice but I miss the Subaru.
How did you get into car maintenance? imy first car was a golf 4 but I wanted to learn car main. Myself and bought a mx5 Nbfl in 2020. But it is so difficult to understand what you have to do to keep it running... do you have a good source/idea?

@@R-SXX Need some friends to help you to be honest to get started. Usually the beginning is oil changes, simple stuff to start off with. You aren't gonna be able to take an engine apart completely within 3 weeks and reinforce it to tune it up to 500hp.
It takes a LOT of time to understand. What i am doing now is checking out a select few cars and study what engine they have, what their common problems are and how to potentially fix them. Body repairs/rust removal, oil change and changing air filter for fun.
My recommendation is get a cheap car you can goof around with and if you break it who cares its a shitbox.

As a WRX owner I second this. It's also harder to learn how to work on a car with a boxer engine, unless your hands are baby-sized. Surprised no RX8 or RX7 on this list tho!
Just sold my genesis coupe. To buy a 2005 wrx. I can confirm. If you do your research and give time to find the right one. You can get a very well maintained. Solid one. At a good price. Just takes some work, research, and patience.
First car is a ‘00 Accord 5spd. 4cyl. 4dr. (Don’t mind the constant abbreviations). Word of advice to anyone looking to buy a mustang (especially the SN95), make sure it’s in good condition and you’re not afraid to get rough when working on it. I’ve worked on one quite a bit and IT IS A HANDFUL 😂
My tip no matter what car you buy join a community for that car on Facebook or whatever. When your unsure about something ask others in the group's i guarantee they will help.

I got an 18 EcoBoost mustang with 310 hp and 350 lb ft. It’s a great first car, as long as you have respect for the car and don’t act a fool. And as far as terrible gas mileage, I get 24 city and 34 highway.
I also just bought a 2017 ecoboost premium a week ago and honestly love it...need a custom exhaust tho i feel like its not as loud as i would like it to be

Just got my first car and it's a 2005 Ford mustang. I got it for 4.5k and it only had 150k miles and 2 owners. Before buying it I got pre-approved for an auto loan at a credit union. I also took the car to 2 different mechanics and had them look at the car and it was fine. The car is in great condition and I'm super happy with it.
