Change the oil every 3,000 miles. I'll be doing that after I get the engine rebuilt. Gonna go for the big power.
As a gen-won speed 3 owner, yes. As long as you don't modify it like I did and later have a head gasket failure throwing a rod. Forged pistons and rods after though... surprising amount of power can be made when religiously maintaining it.
Acura TL type S and Lexus GS 400s are underrated, I'm surprised no ones listing the old IS 300??but I doubt I'd call them first cars, maybe second cars
Zentallian has a g37 prior to totaling it, those cars are surprising reliable as hell. And if you want/can work on the car yourself it’s gonna be a hell of a lot cheaper than any euro car I’ve owned. Great car for the money with a good amount of aftermarket potential. Only problem is that they have trouble gaining substantial power without spending a ton of money.
My first legal street operated car was in 1999 I was 18 and got a 1983 oldsmobile delta 88, 305 v8 throttle body injection. Car was weak and slow and guzzled gas but I loved it and I still do. Took my license test in that car too! Passed first time.
My first car, that I’m working on right now, is a ‘73 Bug that I picked up for $900. Super easy to work on and an absolutely massive community to draw wisdom from.
2009 2.5 6MT Altima is pretty good for first car. Good fuel economy if you don't step on it. Enough power to do burnouts and overtake. Reliable and not too expensive to fix. Not a good platform for modifications or tuning though.
My first car was my aunt's 2001 Toyota Corolla with 196k miles on it. Got it to 243k without any major issues and sold it last year for a 2016 Fiesta ST. Speaking of, still waiting on that "So you Want a Fiesta ST" episode.

But trust me..this is one of the funnest car u will ever drive in your life! Ul be walking around making your fiesta's noises like waaaaap ssssspshhhhh, ssssspshshhhh, pap pap
Best first car to own: Manual transmission Honda Accord or Nissan Altima. Learn the basics on a forgiving chassis and car. How to park, drive stick through bumper to bumper traffic/intersections, will never let you down. Feeling spicy a couple years down the road? Tune the engine or try out a turbo. V6 Accords and Altimas are very fast on the highway. The same basics can apply to the manual Honda Civic Si, Toyota Celica, and Acura RSX, but these three are actually much more capable cars that can easily get out of hand for first time car drivers. A Cobalt SS/PontiacSaturn Ion and Neon srt4 is fine, but they are very typical gm/dodgey quality. Non-STi Imprezas and Mitsubishi Eclipse/Lancers are great but you gotta make sure you do the proper engine maintenance. Miata is fine if you’re short and have one with no rust for cheap. 350z’s, Genesis Coupe, and G35’s definitely need drivers with more self control, those RWD things can be wild out on the streets. They aren’t as unforgiving as a Mustang or MR2 but can still initiate great drifts breaking loose with skilled drivers.
My 1st car is my 2013 scion frs. Bought it on impulse and not once regret it. Its slow af due to its torque dip, but handles so well and the aftermarket parts are endless. Learned manual in that car too. Very smooth light clutch and precise shifting throws.
My first car was an 02 RSX 5 speed with 252k miles. It was a phenomenal first car and I truly enjoyed every second in it. Sadly, the clutch died and repairs started to add up so I got rid of it and got an 04 Civic with 163k miles. That car is awesome and I love it so much.
This is my first time ever really looking into cars especially because I have to pay for my own first car soon. And I’m not a car person but this channel is the best way to get into becoming a car person. Especially to pick out the best first car for me. thanks so much!
V6 Camrys and Accords are killer fun though. They're boats but they're still fun to drive (fun as in funny when you reach limits). They're like those early 2000s GM fwd cars with the 3800 engine. Nobody really cares about those cars but for a few people it's a nice reliable car.
My first car and favorite mod car still is a 2013-2016 Scion FR-S. Mines a 2013 and the options for mods are so high that you can always find something to work in the car.

My first car was a 1986 Toyota AE86, bought it for $4k, GTS hatch and everything. Damn I miss that car, I'm saving up for another one tho! Wish me luck!
My 1st car was a 2004 civic lx. Piss slow, but it died this past April with 314k on the motor. I'll have to admit as much as that car had problems, it never left me stranded and look forward to buying another 1 eventually. Hey get a fuel efficent car so you have more money to sit back on for your projects. Also currently a proud owner of a 2012 gen coupe 2.0t.
My homie. I recommend get a crown Vic, comes with a v8, 20+ degrees of steering, rear wheel drive, and theirs a shit ton of them around the world, cheep parts and replacements
My first car was a 2007 Mazda 3 Sedan with a 5 speed. I bought it for $1600 with all lights on the dash and just under 100,000 miles. I beat the shit out of it until I crashed it for the final time at 137,000 miles. Ran great and I put on over 37,000 hard miles on it in less than 2 years. Handled amazing and I feel like it’s an extremely underrated car
I don't disagree with any of those. I can 100% attest to the Cobalt SS though. It's a very good car/platform to get started in the car scene and modding. Bolt pattern is stupid and impossible to shop for good wheels for, but aside from that, a very nice platform. Also very easy to learn manual on. I'm gonna be goin from a Cobalt to an Evo either next year or the year after.
Richard Bonnardel depends on the year. If you got an 05-06 ur kinda screwed bc the ECU is locked and no one tunes it, but if you got an 07-10, slap an M62 with new exhaust on there, tune it and hang on
@@turbo_co27 I got an 08 LNF. I haven't driven any other manuals for reference but it was pretty easy for me to learn honestly. But honesty I'd recommend a turbo kit before the M62.
I'm 20 and have a WRX STi and a Miata and let me tell you insurance is disgusting for my WRX, $6000 a year (Canadian) and my Miata....well...it's $94 a YEAR. Expensive car, expensive insurance. Just get a cheap car...
@@SHANELMUSIC Lmaooooo what a pathetic fucking comment. You're clearly trying to be all edgy and cool but that may be hands down one of the dumbest things someone has ever said to me
Kyezie131 did you know in Australia it’s not mandatory to get insurance? Some people live in different countrys’ and have different laws. I live in Canada, and I also live in Australia as well. It’s mandatory in Canada, but not in Australia. If you’ve got a cheap car and don’t need insurance for it, than you just need registration that’s all.
Kyezie131 okay? You said that was a “fucking pathetic” comment from a person that said don’t get insurance than. Maybe he/she is from a different country lmfao
I'd say just get the cheapest mode of transportation you can get, disregard everything but price, and survive with a cheap craigslist car for a few years until you can buy something you actually like. Which in my case would be more or less limited to just Lotuses.
Ethan Lundeen nah. They’re too involved man. I’m a first time owner and I’ve got a mk4 gli 1.8t In manual. Rear main seal blew, every damn engine related sensor went out. Spark plugs foul and cause misfires fast as fuck. Only works out if you can work on your own shit, the 2.0 is a better bet for reliability, not fun, I love my 1.8t but shes been trouble for sure.
Mk4 gti was my first car 1.8t to be specific but fortunately I had some good luck with it but you have to be a lil more aware on general maintenance on these plus they have some wierd electric issues
Ethan Lundeen could be worse lmao. I have plenty of friends with mk4’s All of them have expensive issues. Although I will agree the previous owner was shitty, I hold faith in my car still
I kinda wanted a vr6 but ended up getting a super clean mk5 GTI with a 6spd manual and oh man it's fun. Previous owner lowered it on FK silverline coilovers and the only maintenance I had to get done was the oil filter gasket and timing belt (timing belt wasn't broken it was just recommended to replace it at it's mileage)
If you want a first fun and reliable car but you dont want to buy a civic or a rsx like everyone i recomand a celica very nice car look great (sorry for my english i speak french )
One I'd say is overlooked here is the GTI. I know you got the GLI which is probably why the GTI doesn't show up, but with the FiST on the list I just think the GTI is a better buy into the hot hatch scene. Basically, you can opt into two different avenues to go down when purchasing. A MK5 GTI is like a $5000 investment for a pretty good example of one. You can buy one of those, then with the other $5000 you save from not buying a FiST, you can update the radio and get any problems you come across fixed as well as add some go fast parts to an already faster car out of the gate. OR You can get a MK7 and not have to worry about as many issues as the MK7s are generally more reliable. They are also a full second faster 0-60 than the FiST. Interior on the GTI is WAY nicer than the Ford and the MK7 GTI's reliability is pretty spot on ( I mean, go watch the ECS Tuning videos of them taking a slammed MK7 and absolutely abuse it in South America and never left them stranded). Basically same price, but better ride quality, faster car stock, and more you can do to it before the scary words start popping up like "swap" or "forged" thanks to it's 2.0 over the FiST's 1.6. The reliability rating for a MK7 GTI and the Fiesta ST are also the same from JD Power with them both coming in at 3 out of 5. I know it's a year old video, and some things may have changed from then till now (like the MK7 GTI price), but yeah, GTI MK5, 6, or 7 all day if you are buying a daily driver to sometimes throw around a track as opposed to a track car you'd like to sometimes throw around a road.
Very well put, mate. I was looking for someone to ask abt the Golf vs Fiesta thing. Its one of the debates I've been having myself on which one to get.
My first first car is an accord 2002 and it honestly is a really nice car for my basic driving and learning and getting my experience, but I’m saving up for a g37 coupe
1st car was a 1980 Honda Civic that was in less than ideal condition. It was a load of fun and got me into modifying and fixing cars and without it I wouldn't own my Supra! Everyones gotta start somewhere! You should do a video for best daily drivers too. Also...Hi Alex, see you on Sunday!
I'm biased to Honda but I would go with the Honda DC5 or a Honda FD2. DC5 = easy to build, easy to maintain, an infinite amount of aftermarket parts. You could throw literally any wheel on it and it would be boss. RPF01 in matte black FTW!
My first car was a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport all wheel drive Limited. It was on 24's with rubber band tires, a body lip kit, wet two tone paint, a 7-inch flip out with two 10in in the headrest custom Sony Xplod in the trunk double woofer, and neon and Lambo doors were being thought about. It had brake problems and an electrical issue because of a shorted out alternator because of a cracked short block that was spurting oil in the bottom of the engine bay. I'm almost Happy it got stolen. But hey it was the coolest car in the high school parking lot next to a gangster 80s Cadillac Brougham Sedan Deville lowrider on Gold Daytons and a riced Honda Civic with this humongous fake bomex body kit and a piss yellow rattle can spray paint job with an angry can of bees.

Acura TL type S and Lexus GS 400s are underrated, I'm surprised no ones listing the old IS 300??but I doubt I'd call them first cars, maybe second cars
IS 300's are gorgeous
My first car was a 2002 pontiac grand prix gt. I RWD and manual swapped it and twin turboed it. im one of only a few whos done both
My first car was a Mitsubishi eclipse. My dad fixes up broken cars and got it for around $500-700
First car was a turbo DSM as well, luckily my dad was a mechanic or I would have been screwed. Took every penny of my KFC paycheck to keep it going.
What year? My first Is a 2000 eclipse
Not my first car, but I'm currently driving an '07 GT-V6 and am liking it very much
my first car was a mitsubishi carisma, those mitsubishis are literally unbreakable.
Ok
Infiniti g35 for my first car... was gonna get a 350z but wanted back seats
Adrian Lau Same, but I got a G37.
Adrian Lau just had my g35 totalled ... gonna get another one
me too!
That's gonna be my first car too, what do you guys think about them
Zentallian has a g37 prior to totaling it, those cars are surprising reliable as hell.
Ayeee always a good feeling! -Edgar
My first car, that I’m working on right now, is a ‘73 Bug that I picked up for $900. Super easy to work on and an absolutely massive community to draw wisdom from.
where did you get one so cheap?? all the ones i see on craigslist are like 7 grand at least
First car was a 1991 crx si and swapped a b16 into it. Loved that car and still miss it to this day
2009 2.5 6MT Altima is pretty good for first car. Good fuel economy if you don't step on it. Enough power to do burnouts and overtake. Reliable and not too expensive to fix. Not a good platform for modifications or tuning though.
Alternatively go back a year or so and get a 3.5SE-R altima, get the v6 and the manual.
What I rocked for my first car was a blast.
My first car was my aunt's 2001 Toyota Corolla with 196k miles on it. Got it to 243k without any major issues and sold it last year for a 2016 Fiesta ST. Speaking of, still waiting on that "So you Want a Fiesta ST" episode.
My first car was also a 2001 Corolla, probably the best car i would ever own, that car never broke down on me, it has around 350k miles
@@PEPE7550 Corollas literally last forever as long as you keep up with oil changes. Haha I sold my corolla to my gf's brother and he's still driving it to this day.

That’s why I am going to get a mx 5 as my first car soon. I want a fun car as my first car.

Should have had LS400 in the list. I love mine. Reliable enough to easily see 500k, good gas mileage, plenty of V8 power, rwd, timeless looks, 4 doors for more FRIENDS, easily modifiable with wheels, exhaust, suspension, and hella VIP exterior mods.
Sam Bonney fuck yeah someone said it ! The 1uz are amazing engines

The entire 924 line: Am I a joke to you?

I agree with the Honda Accord
I got a v6 accord for cheap in almost perfect condition besides paint for 1400 and its pretty dope and fast for a "first" car
V6 Camrys and Accords are killer fun though. They're boats but they're still fun to drive (fun as in funny when you reach limits).
They're like those early 2000s GM fwd cars with the 3800 engine. Nobody really cares about those cars but for a few people it's a nice reliable car.
I got a 2000 Mitsubishi eclipse GS as my first car. Got a great deal and it's a nice looking car imo

@@WeAreChecking Upgrade the turbo, but an ecu tune is needed before anything.
Richard Bonnardel depends on the year. If you got an 05-06 ur kinda screwed bc the ECU is locked and no one tunes it, but if you got an 07-10, slap an M62 with new exhaust on there, tune it and hang on

OR
You can get a MK7 and not have to worry about as many issues as the MK7s are generally more reliable.
