As a 3yr old video, it's still very useful, so thank you for this. I have just purchased a MaxiCheck MX808S-TS with Android 11 and 64GB internal storage. FYI: Autel told me it's the exact same model/features as the MaxiCom MK808S-TS and MaxiSys MS808S-TS just different sales channels (if anyone else was wondering about their model). My scanner specs state max SD Card size of 32GB, but after all updates installed my Scan folder is too large to fit on a 32GB SD card. I tested a 256GB Samsung EVO Select U3 SD Card (formatted with FAT32) and it is fully recognized and usable in my scanner for backups. I also tested a 512GB portable HDD formatted with exFAT and it was also recognized and backed up successfully. I'll probably just use a USB stick or my external HDD for backups in the future.
Thanks mate for the compliment and feedback. Yea, I also found out some time back that my Samsung 64gb thumb drive worked quite well in my MP808TS! Autel and momenclature. Same way MP808S and it's variants are same with the MP808Z models.

Updates are bug fixes, manufacturer updates and optimisations. Personally, I only do manufacturer updates for the cars I work on or could see myself working on in the future. Some updates are for the device itself, I do those too. I don't know these scanners to ship with SD cards, if yours came with one, likely a plus from the seller. I don't recall the stated max SD card limit for the MK808s, but I've seen people go beyond those without problems. I've also backed up to a 64gb thumb drive without issues. As long as you don't move eligible cars over to the SD card, you shouldn't have a problem if you remove the card. If the card just has your back up, removing it won't do a thing. Just a headsup that Autel gives you that impractical notification of doing backups before any update. Impractical, because backups take like 1 - 2 hours to complete and you can't be doing this before updating every single car. Just find a backup schedule that works for you.
I have a MaxiPRO MP 808. My subscription just did expire maybe a week ago. When I went to "backup" on a external SD Card, my MP808 does not have a "copy" on the screen. It is not like the great video shows at approximately 2:37 to 2:40. How do I backup my MP808. S/N available if needed. I called the help desk. That gentleman told me I can't back it up, no need to. Were you using ES file Explorer? As a file explorer it can copy any file you can view. Be sure you have selected the scan folder, the option should be available

First of all, thank you for the backup information! My Autel 808S subscription expired just last February 14, 2024, and I did a full backup of the scan folder, plus I also updated to the latest firmware. Today, I turned on my scanner and received a message regarding a firmware update. I noticed a #1 in settings about a firmware update. I continued to use my scanner and ignored the firmware update. My question is, do I need a subscription in order to update the firmware? If I do not require a subscription, do I have to update the firmware even though my scanner works perfectly?

Good question! There is that risk. However, it just isn't practical to copy that Scan folder before every update. It can take up to 3hrs to copy... That's just my rationale.

Thanks mate. They have exactly the same functions except that the MP808TS is a full TPMS service tool (ie it can relearn & program TPMS sensors). The other difference is hardware. The MP808 connects to the car by cable, while the MP808TS can connect by wire or Bluetooth.

The MS906BT has faster hardware and can be connected to a oscilloscope & video scope. However, functions are the same with the MP808TS. The downside of the MS906BT is that it doesn't have full TPMS functionality and so cannot activate TPMS sensors (a step that is critical for relearning sensors neither will it program Autel MX TPMS sensors. Personally, I would prefer the MP808TS just for the last reason. However, if your priorities are the advantages of the MS906BT then you can go with.

I don't, however, it's the exact reverse process. The tool will give a notification if you want to replace the scan folder. Click yes, and wait for it to complete.
Can I do that with 64gb SD card? I have cca 30gb of updates When I go to my SD path I don't see scan folder created, can I create that folder or does it have to be automaticly created. Thanks.
What is the capacity of your tool? 32 or 64gb? Someone recently left a comment that they were able to use I think a 64 or 128gb card for this although Autel mentions 32gb. The Scan folder is usually there on the tool, you don't need to create it. If its the SD card though, it's not necessary to create one.
Don't have experience with Otofix though it appears to be an Autel subsidiary. Sticking to best practice i.e., using what is called for in the manual will be my advise.
I tried doing it the way you did it. It worked until i got a error that said there is not enough space in the sd card. What do i do now. The sd card was new.

Hi, I have a problem with my ms906ts. I think I have a backup but everytime I try to restore it says copy failed. Also, when I go to VCI, the TPMS is not there. I've lost all functionality I had before I ran out of subscription and essentially have a brick 😑 I downloaded PC suite to try to factory reset but can't figure out how to get into update mode so it can see my tablet.
You are trying to copy from the SD card to the scanner, right? Ensure you delete the existing scan folder first (or copy it to a 3rd device, just in case), before starting the copy. If the sum of the existing plus the new file exceeds the available space on the scanner, the copy will fail. You don't need the PC suite for a factory reset. It's purely done on the tool under storage in android settings. Regarding TPMS, do you see the TPMS tab on the tool's interface? It shouldn't show under VCI.
Hi there l put my MP 808TS to factory settings if l purchased a second MP 808TS Made a backup. Could i use the backup to restore the other one. Or could l buy a later model and use the backup from that to restore my MP 808TS. Thanks Chris

I don't know if someone else's backup can be used. The scan folder also contains all records of previous scans and some info unique to the tool it was created on. It could work, I just don't know. A factory reset, takes the tool back to where it was at first boot. Not sure if it will clear all the apps or just the updates. I think the latter. This is my understanding, but I haven't done one. Maybe I should, and do a video on it. Thanks.
Great videos and content! Just as a side note I tried a 128gb in my new mx808 and it worked. Not sure if this is because my model is the latest with the 64gb internal storage but just thought I’d share . Also on mine there has been a scan file created automatically on the external SD card as well as the internal without any input from me. Is this correct ?
Thanks for the compliment & feedback. Interesting. Even your Mx808 is listed to support SD cards up to 32gb only. On the creation of a scan folder, sounds normal. Guessing the scanner is prepping it to be part of working memory. Actually, if space becomes an issue on some tools, the cars can be moved to the sd card and used as functional memory.

Ouch. You should have made a backup of the Scan folder before doing the reset. Do you have an active license? If so, you just need to download the updates.

No. If you do a factory reset, it won't give you a licence to start downloading new updates. You are able to use the device now, right? It just that you can't download new updates and you don't have the Autel ID & password?
That's strange. Can you confirm you have a genuine SD card? Also make sure the card is formatted to FAT32. If you haven't already, format the card and try again. I once had that problem.
Also they say if backing up with usb it must be a FAT32 format 32GB Usb stick I tried a 132gb not FAT32 and did not work now purchasing 2nd trying again hope I save someone some time
hello, I already have one autel scanner - the older model DS708. I want to buy one of the newer models, does the MaxiPro808TS have the same functions as the MS906 and MK908? I believe that most of the models differ only in battery capacity, display size, processor and ECU profiling functions. is it not so? what do you think? greetings
The MP808TS and Ms906 have the same functions. The 906 has faster hardware, however the 906 will not relearn or program TPMS sensors. The MP808TS has the advantage in terms of TPMS functions. The MK908P is more advanced than the 2 above as it comes with a J2534 box for ECU programming of Mercedes and BMW only. Again it will not in isolation do TPMS relearning/programming. But can be used with the another Autel TPMS tool (TS601) to do this. In the end it will come down to the capabilities you will want to cover at your shop and budget... All the best!
Hi mate, I'm just checking to see if you would have a copy of the software for the maxidiag elite md802. I have recently updated the unit, and since updating, it has given me extra functions in terms of extra years, but at the same time, i have lost the full functionality of the unit. I was able to view live data, TCM, ECU etc. but since the update is no longer available. I have contacted autel, and they have advised that they dont have the older software and advised to see how if i can get a copy from someone who has one the same. Cheers
Hi sorry to hear this. I don't have the maxidiag elite. Autel is best placed to help you here as they can remotely roll back an update on your device. I think the person that addressed your issue didn't just want to see it through.

I uninstalled all the software yesterday and installed it again, hoping it will be fixed. I did notice the update for my vehicle had a description that it resolved "live communication" with the vehicle. Well, it is definitely not the case as it worked previously. Thanks again

Basically do outstanding updates and backup scanner say on 25/11/2022. Tool will continue to program keys in line with all updates received after expiry. The only exception is some cars like Chrysler/Fiat from 2018 that require online access due to the secure gateway protocol.

64GB can be used for the IM608. There's always a risk of file corruption while updating hence the advice the backup files. Not very practical, but that's the recommendation from Autel.
Hello Hope you are able to help resolve the problem I'm having on my Maxisys 908. I've contacted Autel support on 3 occasions and to be honest the were less than helpful. My device suddenly stopped communicating with certain vehicles. I initially assumed it was because of my expired subscription, so i went ahead and paid a whopping $1300 for renewal. Unfortunately even after installing the updates the device is still behaving the same way. On a few cars it works perfectly, but is unable to communicate on the majority of vehicles. There also seems to be no pattern at all on which vehicles it works. For example it works fine on a Toyota Landcruiser 1VD 200 series and Rav 4 2010, yet is unable to communicate with any Hilux D4D or a Toyota Surf 2010. I've uploaded data logs to Autel support but had no response. I suspect the problem could be the VCI, but would like to be sure before spending another $700
Haven't had this experience before. But since you already have a subscription, maybe a factory reset? You'll loose all updates though, but can get them back. You can also backup the 'scan' folder, so that you can do a restore if you don't like the outcome.

The problem may be in the class of sd card you are using. Have you tried using a different micro sd card? Autel recommends UHS-1 class 10. The one you currently have seems to be UHS-3 class 3. Autel has a video where they specifically recommend a SanDisk that is UHS-1 class 10. I went with the Lexar in this video because I believe its the speed class that really matters not the brand. Let me know how it goes.

Sadly, in my experience, if you didn't make a backup to restore from, the only way forward is to renew your subscription with Autel. As last resort, you may consider a factory reset to see if it will restore the cars to the state at which you bought the tool. You will loose all the updates ever downloaded. Only proceed if you feel comfortable with this.

You have to Click and Hold the Scan folder, then the copy will appear

You're welcome. No subscription needed for firmware updates. Done a couple of them without a subscription. Keep that backup tight!

Made a backup. Could i use the backup to restore the other one.
Or could l buy a later model and use the backup from that to restore my MP 808TS.

Hi thank you for this Video, in case you have an TS Version do you Need to Backup the Tpms Folders also? Or are all beendet Informations Saved in the SCAN folder. On my mx808s-ts there are separate Folders for Tpms and Tpms retrofit for example. Greetings Tobi

You can add SD card up to 128 GB in MaxiPro 808, you just need to go to the settings / storage and erase SD card, then it will work 100%

I don't know if someone else's backup can be used. The scan folder also contains all records of previous scans and some info unique to the tool it was created on. It could work, I just don't know.
A factory reset, takes the tool back to where it was at first boot. Not sure if it will clear all the apps or just the updates. I think the latter. This is my understanding, but I haven't done one. Maybe I should, and do a video on it. Thanks.

Great videos and content! Just as a side note I tried a 128gb in my new mx808 and it worked. Not sure if this is because my model is the latest with the 64gb internal storage but just thought I’d share . Also on mine there has been a scan file created automatically on the external SD card as well as the internal without any input from me. Is this correct ?
Thanks for the compliment & feedback. Interesting. Even your Mx808 is listed to support SD cards up to 32gb only.
On the creation of a scan folder, sounds normal. Guessing the scanner is prepping it to be part of working memory. Actually, if space becomes an issue on some tools, the cars can be moved to the sd card and used as functional memory.

Ouch. You should have made a backup of the Scan folder before doing the reset. Do you have an active license? If so, you just need to download the updates.

No. If you do a factory reset, it won't give you a licence to start downloading new updates. You are able to use the device now, right? It just that you can't download new updates and you don't have the Autel ID & password?

If you reset, it will go back to vehicle updates when it was shipped. If you have a backup, you can get the updates that are in the backup.
My scan folder has 26 gb but only 9 gb is being copied to my SD card. Any help??
That's strange. Can you confirm you have a genuine SD card? Also make sure the card is formatted to FAT32. If you haven't already, format the card and try again. I once had that problem.
Also they say if backing up with usb it must be a FAT32 format 32GB Usb stick I tried a 132gb not FAT32 and did not work now purchasing 2nd trying again hope I save someone some time

When you hide the backup copy window, how do i see that window again after pressing hide button?
Drag down the top of the screen as you would do on android phones, then you will see the copy progress bar. Click it and it will become visible again.
When i want to change language it says you dont have authorization for doin that and says please optain authorization i dont know what to do

hello, I already have one autel scanner - the older model DS708. I want to buy one of the newer models, does the MaxiPro808TS have the same functions as the MS906 and MK908? I believe that most of the models differ only in battery capacity, display size, processor and ECU profiling functions. is it not so? what do you think? greetings
The MP808TS and Ms906 have the same functions. The 906 has faster hardware, however the 906 will not relearn or program TPMS sensors. The MP808TS has the advantage in terms of TPMS functions.
The MK908P is more advanced than the 2 above as it comes with a J2534 box for ECU programming of Mercedes and BMW only. Again it will not in isolation do TPMS relearning/programming. But can be used with the another Autel TPMS tool (TS601) to do this.
In the end it will come down to the capabilities you will want to cover at your shop and budget...

Hi mate, I'm just checking to see if you would have a copy of the software for the maxidiag elite md802. I have recently updated the unit, and since updating, it has given me extra functions in terms of extra years, but at the same time, i have lost the full functionality of the unit. I was able to view live data, TCM, ECU etc. but since the update is no longer available. I have contacted autel, and they have advised that they dont have the older software and advised to see how if i can get a copy from someone who has one the same. Cheers
Hi sorry to hear this. I don't have the maxidiag elite. Autel is best placed to help you here as they can remotely roll back an update on your device. I think the person that addressed your issue didn't just want to see it through.

I uninstalled all the software yesterday and installed it again, hoping it will be fixed. I did notice the update for my vehicle had a description that it resolved "live communication" with the vehicle. Well, it is definitely not the case as it worked previously. Thanks again

Basically do outstanding updates and backup scanner say on 25/11/2022.
Tool will continue to program keys in line with all updates received after expiry. The only exception is some cars like Chrysler/Fiat from 2018 that require online access due to the secure gateway protocol.

64GB can be used for the IM608. There's always a risk of file corruption while updating hence the advice the backup files. Not very practical, but that's the recommendation from Autel.

Unfortunately, that folder also contains files unique to each device, and as such, I can't share. Why not buy a new subscription?

Hope you are able to help resolve the problem I'm having on my Maxisys 908. I've contacted Autel support on 3 occasions and to be honest the were less than helpful. My device suddenly stopped communicating with certain vehicles. I initially assumed it was because of my expired subscription, so i went ahead and paid a whopping $1300 for renewal.
Unfortunately even after installing the updates the device is still behaving the same way. On a few cars it works perfectly, but is unable to communicate on the majority of vehicles. There also seems to be no pattern at all on which vehicles it works. For example it works fine on a Toyota Landcruiser 1VD 200 series and Rav 4 2010, yet is unable to communicate with any Hilux D4D or a Toyota Surf 2010. I've uploaded data logs to Autel support but had no response. I suspect the problem could be the VCI, but would like to be sure before spending another $700
Haven't had this experience before. But since you already have a subscription, maybe a factory reset? You'll loose all updates though, but can get them back. You can also backup the 'scan' folder, so that you can do a restore if you don't like the outcome.

What SD card brand are you using? Also is it class 10? Maybe format the card and try again.

SanDisk Extreme 32GB Micro SD V30 microSDHC Memory Card ... Everything was copied (25gb), but then stopped on 99%...
The problem may be in the class of sd card you are using. Have you tried using a different micro sd card? Autel recommends UHS-1 class 10. The one you currently have seems to be UHS-3 class 3. Autel has a video where they specifically recommend a SanDisk that is UHS-1 class 10. I went with the Lexar in this video because I believe its the speed class that really matters not the brand. Let me know how it goes.

Sadly, in my experience, if you didn't make a backup to restore from, the only way forward is to renew your subscription with Autel. As last resort, you may consider a factory reset to see if it will restore the cars to the state at which you bought the tool. You will loose all the updates ever downloaded. Only proceed if you feel comfortable with this.

Backups are device-specific and will contain confidential information. Are you not able to do another backup?
