What's hilarious is that a roll of tape was conveniently behind Bert's podium. They started doing this ever since Bert showed his tendency to giving away clues and/or puzzles. From then on, the producers always threatened (and actually did on a couple of times) tape Bert's mouth shut.
Oh way to go, Bert! That was worth waiting for! Thank you for sharing this. What made it funnier was Pat offering to fix it, like Schneider on "One Day at a Time"
That moment where the contestant grabs the toaster from Bert's hands going "Gimme that, I can fix it!" using the roll of tape someone threw earlier...priceless, just priceless.
On the final episode, Betty White rips up the check and tries to tear the toaster apart. Bert tells her to just throw it. She has to throw it twice to break it, as the replacement toaster had apparently been "Bert-proofed." ua-cam.com/video/28eeruMnRUY/v-deo.html
I've always thought Super Password wasn't just about the game, but about the comedic spontaneity. Random things happen and the people have a comedic response to it. In Allen Ludden's day, it was just "Oh, something happened. Let's just move on." For SP, it's more like "Oh, something happened. Haha. Wild snarky response. Haha."
Oh man, this is still my favorite game show of all time. Bert Convy was a terrific host and really made the game fun. Today, we get smug, third-rate comedians hosting, and way too much time spent on contestants doing their very best to annoy the audience. Still, I wouldn't want SP to be brought back. It's not the same without Bert.
They made a stronger magic toaster, and on the final episode, Betty White had to throw it twice to destroy it. Apparently, the second one was "Bert-proofed."
Poor Bert. He's got to be the most disrespected game show host I've ever seen. They throw tape at him so he doesn't give away the puzzle, they make fun of him when he breaks the props... it's so sad, and yet, so hilarious. XD
After the first toaster was broken, the production company decided to have a second toaster ready. After Bert broke the second one, another was made, after he broke that one, there was another one, and Tom has that at home today! Tom Hutcheson
I'm literally watching this episode on buzzer Network right now and it turns out they have a second magic toaster which means there's a mold for this device which begs the question who came up with the mold for this seemingly single purpose item? I mean one has to assume that the magic toaster was only created for the cashword I can't picture something like this being sold in retail
I noticed that after Edie gave away the word, Bert mentioned they would throw it out, little did he know that he would do it literally to the toaster. Man, what a day.
He just lightly threw it, but with the height he tossed it from, could it have been in pieces any further? Why wasn't this show on any game show blooper show? This is one of the funniest game show moments I've ever seen. If there's another blooper show, maybe this should be marked in, "Oh, just destroy it!" parts. No, jk. But, it has to be a blooper reel! Come on!
Edie could have covered her tracks by turning what she said into "evaluate." Wouldn't have been a good clue, but it wouldn't have been the answer either!
Pat Harrington may have played a building superintendent for nine years on television, but there was NO WAY he could have fixed the Magic Toaster (they probably built a new one, which was destroyed by Betty White three years later.)

The crew actually threw it at him at 1:05
(Edited to make the timestamp work)
@@PhirePhlame Why did you edit your comment?
Edie's non-shelant way of saying "you broke your toaster" is what gets me to break down in laughter
Me as well 😂😂😂😂
That "OHH" when he turns around and sees the toaster in pieces. Priceless.
Oh way to go, Bert! That was worth waiting for! Thank you for sharing this. What made it funnier was Pat offering to fix it, like Schneider on "One Day at a Time"
I love when he throw it out and didn't realized what he did till Edie said "you broke your toaster"
How he couldn't have heard that loud bang, I'll never know. That crash could have woken the dead.
The sound of what sounded like Gene Wood laughing his ass off just made it that much funnier, IMO.
That moment where the contestant grabs the toaster from Bert's hands going "Gimme that, I can fix it!" using the roll of tape someone threw earlier...priceless, just priceless.
Actually, he was a celebrity named Pat Harrington.
Leave it to Schneider.
@@savvybear11781 Bert: The man is a professional!!
I love how the toaster makes a big *THUMP* when it hits the ground.
LOL Edie stiff-arms the guy trying to hug her.
Yeah what was that?!
Yeah. Must have had COVID-19 that year
I think the impact made my computer reverberate.
Probably the funniest moment in the entire history of this show

There’s also Testimony, Erect and any time he gave away the puzzle/word

That’s what I love about it. It’s almost a parody of Password but it’s really Password

Betty White also broke the toaster in the 1989 finale of "Super Password" after she threw it on the floor.
Evan----(in her mind) Don't make a move. Maybe they won't notice! 😂😂
too little, too late
That was about a 3.5 on the Richter scale.
Sure made a hell of a bang when he threw it.
BAM!!! That thing was LOUD!
Oh my gosh, these game shows back then got pretty unhinged, huh? ;u; Thank you for the upload!
1:06: the producers' way of saying "Bert, BE QUIET!!!!"
Convy Wins! Fatality!
😂😂😂😂 I could not stop laughing Bert's breaking the toaster! That crunch when it broke I burst out 😂😂😂😂
Best five minutes of my life.
Epic win.
"oh, you broke your toaster..."
I heard the contestant say, "High Technology" just before Pat took the tape.
High tech, indeed.
They made a stronger magic toaster, and on the final episode, Betty White had to throw it twice to destroy it. Apparently, the second one was "Bert-proofed."
ua-cam.com/video/28eeruMnRUY/v-deo.html
That "Oh, shit!" look on Bert's face 😂😂😂😂😂😂
I didn't think that Toaster was breakable.
That's why the second toaster they had made was pretty much indestructible until Betty White destroyed it.
What I wouldn’t give to go back to this year in time …… 😢
Poor Bert. He's got to be the most disrespected game show host I've ever seen. They throw tape at him so he doesn't give away the puzzle, they make fun of him when he breaks the props... it's so sad, and yet, so hilarious. XD
I Love you Edie McClurg
I'm still trying to figure out how the toaster even worked.
"You broke your toaster." - Edie lol
"I broke the toaster to pieces." - Bert XD
Pat's laugh is contagious.
And I thought Betty White really destroyed it on the finale.
Those fill in the blank puzzles are always tricky whether the answer precedes or follows the other clues.
Edie McClurg will Just Say Moe
Lmao I love this!!! " You broke the toaster" 😂
Pat Harrington laugh is hilarious
thanks for the Scarlet blooper posting. I forgot about that one! R. Kline
I think Edie was taking it a bit personally during the 'jerk' round. X3
I didn't even realize that was Pat Harrington until watching this video like four times. He looks so different without his glasses!
After the first toaster was broken, the production company decided to have a second toaster ready. After Bert broke the second one, another was made, after he broke that one, there was another one, and Tom has that at home today!

Love how both celebrities facepalm at the same time
ROFL That sucker was annihilated! Thanks for the upload!
My Little Edie McClurg Squeezebox from High school
3:03, she wanted absolutely nothing to do with his hug and kiss attempt. 😂😂
3:03 Well, that was awkward
I don't think I've seen anything this hilarious in a long time! WOW!! :)
I noticed that after Edie gave away the word, Bert mentioned they would throw it out, little did he know that he would do it literally to the toaster. Man, what a day.

"You broke the toaster." Oh! Hahaha.
Probably only a $2 toaster anyway, so I don't know how effective it really is! :-P
Betty White did the same thing. Destroying the Magic Toaster is wrong. Bad, Betty!
+Paul LaRue Although Burt did it on accident, but Betty did it on purpose.
+Paul LaRue It was the last episode of Super Password. She had a good reason to break it.
Betty had a harder time breaking it, because they had "Bert-proofed" it..lolz.
hey look its the Red Copper pan lady lol. I died when they threw the tape at him.
3:43 EVA----
3:59 Bert SHOCKED the world!
3:44 Words within words are illegal clues!
RIP Bert Convy and Pat Harrington.
4:07 - 4:10 is that the sound of Gene Wood laughing his ass off?
OK, Schneider!
This episode aired on Buzzr recently
The best part was when Pat Harrington used Bert's tape to try to fix the toaster.
What a thud for a toaster being dropped off a table.
3:43 E- VA........then she just freezes like nobody heard it LOL.
Evangelist was the word. Bert distroys the toaster, and didn't realized it.
Apparently this is coming out of Bert Convy's paycheck. LOL
schnieder can fix ANYTHING!
Is it just me, or does Edie push that guy away when he tries to kiss her. 3:04.
Possible Good Clues for "Evangelist": Missionary, Preacher, Crusader
Both are still alive
I bet how many toaster they had to build or buy for cases like this.
The destruction of the first Magic Toaster was an accident, but the destruction of the second one was on purpose.
One word: OOPS!
He killed the toaster!!
PAFF! What exactly was in that toaster?! XD
If Barker could host "TPIR" until he was 83, I don't see why not!
@Loogaroo1 I love it. Loud as hell. XD
1:48 pat's laugh
Edie could have covered her tracks by turning what she said into "evaluate." Wouldn't have been a good clue, but it wouldn't have been the answer either!
Have you seen it? How the check comes out of it, resembles a toaster.
I just realized the contestant was going for Steve Martin "The Jerk." Nice try, too bad he doesn't have a more distinctive last name.
Well, Jack is only one year older than Barker, and Tom is four years younger, so that really isn't an excuse!
he really broke it
Fictional animal person in the audience: Look what you've done! You broke the magic toaster!
Smash goes the Toaster!
"You bastard!"
what with the wire at 00:21
soda was my first guess
3:59 loud thud
"I can fix ett!"
Has Bert been drinking????
The sickening **thud!**
4:03 When she says she is pregnant, but your brother just pooped beside the toilet!
wow wtf .. is that thing made of paper?
was the set designer too lazy to find something sturdy to build a freakin box out of? :p
why was Yvette a illegal clue i'm confused on that
She started to say the word.
Evangelist
3:50
why call it the toaster???
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!
wait a go idaho
I saw another contestant robbed of $20K when Edie McClurg used Kung, Fu, Kick for Karate which the contestant got in the end game.
Fu is not a word. Get over it. There's nothing that can be done about it now. Seriously get some psychological help and stop spamming Password videos.
faitality
Pat Harrington may have played a building superintendent for nine years on television, but there was NO WAY he could have fixed the Magic Toaster (they probably built a new one, which was destroyed by Betty White three years later.)
WTF??????
