Around 4:00, isn't that future Blockbusters champ Leland Yung?
Yep!
I wonder if "Alphabetics" was Mark Goodson's response to the success of "Pyramid"?
I don't think it was, really. Allen Ludden's original "Password", which was also produced by Bob Stewart who gave us "Pyramid" a decade later, was the first-ever game show to have a bonus round and "Alphabetics" was really the "Lightning Round" from the original series.

How did Carol Burnett get away with all the suggestive hand movements of the clue?
Wondering that too
Yeah that wasn’t fair to all the other contestants.
I believe it wasn't until a certain point in the run where gestures were made illegal. The original Password let gestures slide (there was a hilarious moment where the word was "Lap" and the clue giver said "Secretary" while making a "come here" gesture to her lap)
Two of these should have been non winners. The first one said room which should have been roof, and the one with Elizabeth Montgomery had a two word clue and they let it slide. Amazing they didn't check the tape on those back then.
nope
In PW+, an illegal clue did not end the game - it reduced the grand prize by $1000. Note that Marcia Wallace gave a three-word clue, but apparently the win was not reduced. It was Carol Burnett who really got away with something by playing charades during her round.
I could have sworn he said "roof."
3:30 would have been much easier these days, thanks to chicken...
I know Leland...was he on Blockbusters?
At the risk of sounding square, "You bet your bippy!" I was thinking about saying "fern" instead of "bippy" but I decided that "bippy" sounded funnier.
For index, she could’ve said finger.
So the aim of the game is to guess the words. Right?
Yes, guess 10 words beginning with an alphabetical sequence (e.g., A-J, M-V, etc.) in 60 seconds or less, using the same fundamental rules of Password: you must only use one word clues deemed as one word by a set dictionary.
