Genius? No offense, but please... let's not get too carried away here. This is some of the worst prose Bob has ever written. It's really a form of psycho-babble. If he were a "nobody" this pablum would go "nowhere". Just sayin'...

My husband was murdered in 1972. Shot with a high powered rifle while sitting in a restaurant. Slain by a total stranger. 28 years old. My daughter and I have lived 51 years with the mental torture of that nightmare. I think of him every time I listen to this masterful song. It inspired me to dig down deep in that dark hole and write. My ramblings go on and on. notebooks filled with words of pain and anger, lost time, dead dreams.
If only I had Bob's gift to create a masterpiece to so magnificently honor his time on earth.

No one knows what Kennedy would have done about Vietnam had he lived. It's folly to declare any single day the worst in American history. Only gullible simpletons fell for the Kennedy 'magic', he came closest to nuking the world over Cuba, and it was Kruschev of saw sense and backed down, Kennedy would have gone all the way and destroyed all life on Earth. I remember I often listened to this song late at night making my last round..the mood suited the late hour and the empty streets...and I know all the stuff about Johnson and the blink on the plane, grassy knoll and all that. To meet this icon, oh what a dream, To hear his stories, to see him gleam. His influence vast, his impact profound, In his presence, inspiration is found.

Saw Dylan in 74' w/ the Band at the Spectrum. First concert since his motorcycle accident. I was so overwhelmed I wept. And almost 50 years later, I still weep. As only he could write this poetry and to be touched so deeply by his words.
I remember the day, Sister Harold knocked on our 2nd grade door and told us "the President has been shot go home." It was solemn, even then, we were all Irish Catholic kids named after Kennedys. The joy had left our life.and we did lose our soul as a nation, never to be found.
Thank you Mr Dylan. Your music changed my life. Thank you for writing this for your fans. Not a word or reference was lost on us.

I don’t often comment on UA-cam, but I want to make a record of my thoughts at the end of the first steps of my Dylan journey.
A few months ago I decided to explore Bob’s work after hearing ‘I and I’ for the first time. This is mostly because two people whose music I love (Patti Smith and Leonard Cohen) kept mentioning him in interviews - So I decided to see what all the fuss was about with Dylan. I start listening to the rest of Infidels, then stumbled on Slow Train Coming, then some of the live performances and I just felt this SPARK like this was something I should have known about a long time ago. It resonated. Like when you read a line in a book and it feels like it’s describing some hidden truth that’s always been inside of you but you haven’t been able to express. Keats said poetry should be like that. There’s no doubt in my mind that Dylan is classical poetry.
Alright, so then I’m watching performance after performance, just starting to get a grip on the range of songs and styles and I’m a bit lost… I figured what I needed was to put in some time to really get a basic understanding of the path Bob has been on musically since about 50 years before I was born. So for the past 39 days I’ve listened to his albums. One album per day and other materiel in between. I’ve read Tarantula and Chronicles (I’m planning on ordering his new book), watched Masked and Anonymous, Don’t Look Back, The Scorsese documentaries including The Last Waltz - I’ve even gotten close to watching Hearts Of Fire (but the reviews intimidate me…). I’ve read articles about his music, those excellent Bill Flanagan interviews… Even listened/watched Weird Al Yankovic’s ‘Bob’. Full concerts, audio concerts and random pieces from the Bootlegs. I’ve listened to Theme Time Radio Hour regularly and have learned a bunch of his songs on guitar.
Hearing his work in sequence has been quite the journey. The first confident guitar strums on ‘You’re No Good’ from 1962 all the way to these last haunting piano notes on Murder Most Foul. I wish I knew how to explain how his music makes me feel - But there’s no way. It’s all instinct and emotion. A gut response, not something you can pull apart and analyze. I’m talking about this like I’m the one who discovered Bob, but I know there are so many millions of people who feel this same way. I’m a late-comer and apparently much younger than most of you folks, but this stuff is ageless in my opinion. I’m just glad I found it now so I can take it with me on my journey through life how ever long that turns out to be. I read a comment here on UA-cam on I don’t remember what Bob song. It said ‘I’m going to love this for the rest of my life’. Yeah. I feel like that.
It’s humbling and beautiful that one person’s honest expression of their own self can touch so many people in a profound way. I listened to an interview from the 80’s a few weeks ago where Bob was saying he regrets that he didn’t become a surgeon or doctor, because those are the people he admires -- The people who can save someone’s life on the highway. I wanted to tell him ‘You are are a doctor Bob!’ We’re all dying on the highway in some fashion - That’s what life is. And the music you make is soothing. It’s comforting. It’s a healing kind of music like you said you hoped it would be. It’s medicine for the soul. I’m convinced my anxiety levels lower when I listen to his voice.
So often you find an artist whose work you love and then find out without looking for it that this person is not someone you can really respect as a human being (Patti Smith and Leonard Cohen excepted of course). It’s been a pleasure reading Bob’s books and the interviews I’ve seen with him to find that he seems to be a genuinely honorable man. A person with kindness and integrity. I don’t know him and I don’t want to obsess about finding personal information on someone who obviously values their privacy. Only God really knows each of us but Bob is now in my prayers the same way members of my family are. Really his music speaks better than anything about the person he is. I expect it’s the most genuine expression anyone’s likely to find without knowing him personally.
Alright enough rambling. It’s kind of silly to write something like this and then post it publicly, but it feels right to do something to mark the first leg of my Dylan journey. No one asked for this essay, but I’m gifting it to the void.
By the way, (if anyone made it this far...) can someone tell me what the female variant of ‘Bobcat’ is? (Bobcat meaning ‘Dylan fan’) Or is it unisex? ‘Bobkitten’? That doesn’t sound good. Degrading. I’ve heard ‘Bobchick’ but I think ‘Chick’ is no longer politically correct (she said, as someone who says ‘chick’ on a daily basis). Help would be appreciated.

I was 17 when JFK was assassinated, 20 when they took out RFK, & 22 when MLK was silenced. Now I'm 73 and patiently, hopefully, eagerly waiting for justice and truth and soul of my country to be restored when the CIA is "broken into a million pieces". God willing, Amen.

There was a movie that came out shortly after Kennedy was killed, 1964. Wonder if Bob tucked that away somewhere for use at a later date. He does that a lot. www.imdb.com/title/tt0058383/

This beast system you speak of is Life On Earth. The concept of living in peace exists nowhere on this planet or in the known universe except within the human mind and consciousness.

@@qislegit.donttrustthemedia6232 My family and family life was as close to perfect, loving, and supportive as one could ever hope to have. Because of that fact I am actually a very caring and empathetic human being. That being the case, what I stated is absolute fact. Nature and the Universe does not give a shit about human feelings, emotions, or thoughts. There is no "system" that enables or guarantees peace for all. Those admirable human notions and aspirations, if and when they are achieved come from the bottom up, not from the top down. The ideal is to have a system that allows most people to rise above their natural state. To give them a stake in the system. The mistake is in believing that unless there are no tragedies or travesties the system is beastly. Of course, something like Covid can come out of nowhere and wreck the publics faith in the very system they need to believe in. That is nature kicking in the door of our house of delusion that we are above it all. We are not, very trying and worrisome times ahead.

The last line of this song always hits me so hard. He tells the ghostly DJ in limbo to play all of his favorite tunes before he crosses over. And then he asks him to play the very song we are listening to, showing to us that he's ready to die and join the artists he loves so much in the afterlife.
