The earth is 4.5 billion years old; how fortunate are we to be here at the same time as Bob Dylan?

I’m listening to this in January 2024 and still love it. Love Bob Dylan ❤️
Hey I'm listening 1/24 but missing the feminine sensibility. Never too old to learn.

One of the greatest songs ever written.

Anybody in 2024 ?
Yep!
I used to care but... , things have changed
@@g.c.h7055 That's why you're here now
You bet! 😊
I'm from 2025 - but it's so crappy that I went back a year.
Dylan wrote this song in 1999, nearly 40 years after he entered the music industry. You tell me how many songwriters are able to produce songs like this after 40 years? Not many. It's a craft, it's an art and Dylan is a master of it. Nobel prize winner yesterday and a legend forever.
Right On!
NONE!!!
Mature like ancient wine....I trusted and knew this eceptional song will cause and make his goodwill sooner or later a worldwide and due fame!
Never never get tired of this song. I didn't appreciate his music much in the 60's BUT now I hear it all differently. His presence at that time was unconventional, for the lack of another word. He did this song just for the movie while he was on tour in NYC when he had a day off, which shows how much he can't enough of what he does for us.
"...BUT now I hear it all differently..."
Ahhhhh.
Listening to Dylan is like going to church...Amen!
My mother listened to Bob Dylan on the car radio when I was 5 or 6, back in the 60's. I called him "the guy who couldn't sing" and here I am entering my '60s, listening to him in 2022. 💥 Legend
i wish i couldnt sing as good as that goat. you described it great though for a kid..no pun intended as i look at my goat haha
Yet he sounds so good
Great comment. I am right there with you.
mum had good taste
You are right. Still can't sing!😮
He sings "...the next 60 seconds can feel like an eternity" 60 seconds before the song ends. That's genius songwriting.
i didnt spot that..the mans genious is out of this world......he answered my comment about 4 hrs ago..he asked me where i was texting from.
You're not giving away my water pik !!
And at 4:30 he sings "I'm not eager to make a mistake" you hear how he plays the chord wrong.

People think that a prophet is only someone who foretells the future and institutionalized Christianity insists that the only prophets are Biblical ones, but Dylan is indeed a prophet.
I've met so many young people with the discernment to know meaningful and imaginative music,
who understand Dylan's greatness and who've said they envy me for having lived through the 50's. 60's and seventies.
It was a particular time, ours. doomed in one way, blessed in another.

Things have changed but Bob Dylan's music is timeless!
This is a time for us all to come together, unite as family & country. We need each other, stand together as AMERICA!! My brothers and sisters, listen to me! We need each other, let's love each other, & support each other. Black, white, brown , tan, whatever your color, or whatever, we need each other!! Let's love, instead of hate! Light & love to all!
I totally agree. I'm English, but you're right, not just America but all of us should be united in friendship..
I could keep listening to this song again and again and again.
I do❤👍

Preferently, the songs I heard in the sixties. It was my best time in the life.

Lyrics:
A worried man with a worried mind
No one in front of me and nothing behind
There's a woman on my lap and she's drinking champagne
Got white skin, got assassin's eyes
I'm looking up into the sapphire tinted skies
I'm well dressed, waiting on the last train
Standing on the gallows with my head in a noose
Any minute now I'm expecting all hell to break loose
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
This place ain't doing me any good
I'm in the wrong town, I should be in Hollywood
Just for a second there I thought I saw something move
Gonna take dancing lessons do the jitterbug rag
Ain't no shortcuts, gonna dress in drag
Only a fool in here would think he's got anything to prove
Lotta water under the bridge, lotta other stuff too
Don't get up gentlemen, I'm only passing through
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
I've been walking forty miles of bad road
If the bible is right, the world will explode
I've been trying to get as far away from myself as I can
Some things are too hot to touch
The human mind can only stand so much
You can't win with a losing hand
Feel like falling in love with the first woman I meet
Putting her in a wheel barrow and wheeling her down the street
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
I hurt easy, I just don't show it
You can hurt someone and not even know it
The next sixty seconds could be like an eternity
Gonna get lowdown, gonna fly high
All the truth in the world adds up to one big lie
I'm love with a woman who don't even appeal to me
Mr. Jinx and Miss Lucy, they jumped in the lake
I'm not that eager to make a mistake
People are crazy and times are strange
I'm locked in tight, I'm out of range
I used to care, but things have changed
Thank you 🇦🇺

“Lotta water under the bridge, lotta other stuff too” Life in 9 words. This song is chock full of brilliant, insightful lyrics. It’s pure poetry.
Yeah ! Agree. This song contains a lot of my favorite lines. "I tried to stay away from myself as much as I can" or "If the bible is right this world will explode". A lot of inside notes that Bob shared with the world outside.

Bob’s songs always leaves tears in my eyes....having been born deaf, My hearing aids haven’t been much help until I was 49 (I am now 56) - once I got my cochlear implant, I fell in love with Bob’s songs...my all time fave is Like a Rolling Stone in 1966 in England where he was jeeered and booed....that song was electrifying! Many of his folk songs are about social issues of the day and love them deeply! Thank Bob for awakening my hearing sense!

This man really knows how to make good music, I'm only 19 years old, people sometimes ask me: "Why do you listen to those strange and old songs?" I just answer them "Society will always want to drag us all into its trends and new banal habits" but only we decide if that happens or not. I listen to Bob Dylan and I feel like I don't even belong to this time, and the truth, I wish I could have been in those times and thus forget a little about the disastrous future that for those times, we would not have imagined that these days would come. I love your work Bob Dylan, hope to meet you soon!🖤🍁
I'm 76 now and I've met so many young people with the discernment to know meaningful and imaginative music from the pretentious, self aggrandizing, trendy music of the day.,
who understand Dylan's greatness and who've said they envy me for having lived through the 50's. 60's and seventies.
One prophet said: "Only tell people what you think they need to know."
That's what Dylan does more often than just being very entertaining.
Like in the song,
"I'm gonna forget about myself for a while
Go out and see what others need."
THAT says it all about Dylan.
Like Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull sang in a speaking voice,
"It's only the giving
That makes you what you are."

Tenho 62 anos e posso dizer com certeza estes eram os melhores anos que eu vivi.. 🇧🇷
Dylan has some old songs but this is not an “old” song
I have a better answer for those people: "Go away".
@saddler if that's how you answer, you sound insufferable. Just enjoy your music and let others enjoy theirs. I'm sure you and I share music taste, but the way you go about it is so pretentious.

Spot on ...
I remember when this came out in the Netherlands 🇳🇱. Early 1980s. A student flatmate one day had this album, and I was sold instantly.
That was in the years that the Netherlands were a test market for the American music industry, which meant we got everything first.
Years later, an American friend had a tape of Robert Cray, and was more than a little surprised I could sing along, because it had just come out in the States.

Maybe, Probably not, but I remember when he issued his first record. I remember when the Kingston Trio issued their LP when Tom Dooley on it. I remember when Peter, Paul, and mary came out with Puff the Magic Dragon. I remember crying when Juan Manuel Fangio retired. I remember when my Hero, Fireball Roberts died. I still remember the smell of my first new car, when I got out of the service I bought a new, Red, 1964 Pontiac GTO. Good Times a plenty.
After I posted this I was watching J. Cash video of Wabash Cannonball and I remembered, I remembered when I was preschool, maybe 3 or 4 years old my Mother took me a few miles out of town (this was in west TX, place called Plains) and we stood about 20 feet from the RR tracks and waved as the train passed us doing about 70 MPH. That may have been where I got my love for all things fast. I drove a car at 150+ for just over 10 minutes, 1963 in western AZ. I drove a car 121 miles in 59 minutes and some seconds, 1964, Madera to Bakersfield, CA

There are several advantages to having been born - mid-twentieth century America…being a contemporary of Bob Dylan is...without a doubt…a significant one of them.
Just kidding everyone knows that you and everyone in your generation is selfless and has definitely left the world a better place than you inherited. PAPERINO Welcome! As Bob has so accurately noted "I can't sing" I often search the lyrics of his songs as I'm listening. While I wouldn't change a thing about Mr. Dylan's singing, he is sometimes hard for me to understand. Every single word he has written is worth consideration. Paperino, you are in for years of enjoyment!
Norwegian. Just beautiful
It's like listening to the anthem of the world. Bob Dylan's command on the English Language is Terrifically Wonderful. It seems like he knew the key to unlock the beauty of the Language. He has shown the feminine grace of the poetry in the finest way. Genius!
Bob Dylan knows, as did Solomon (Book of Wisdom) that the Holy Spirit is the feminine within God. The Word is the masculine.
When I first heard the song Precious Angel I was blown away. that song sounded exactly like what had happened to me in 1971 when I was reborn in that feminine spirit while behind my drums in a cabin on a small lake, playing to Blonde on Blonde.
Many years later I was reading a Dylan interview in the SongTalk newspaper of the National Academy of songwriters that i had joined.
Dylan said, "A friend of mine told me that the Spirit was feminine because who else but the feminine would stoop so low to help fallen man." (something very close to that"
But when he said that, and after having known "Precious Angel" I KNEW that he knows it too
but just put it that way, that a friend of mine said . . .
When Dylan says "a friend of mine" you have to take it seriously.
If you want to see the proof, J.R.R. Tolkein was one of the collaborators of the 1966 Jerusalem Bible, Alexander Jones edition.
NOT THE JERUSALEM BIBLE. That translation destroys the poetry and transporting ability of the 1966 version.
You can find it online finally . . . Read Wisdom Chapter 7
In case I have to name drop to have you believe me.
When Dylan and Tom Petty came to Vancouver in 1986
Alice Feldman, Dylan's road manager's wife, gave me an after show backstage pass and took me back to the banquet room after the show.
