    S/510 takes REL’s compact-medium chassis concept to reference-like levels of performance and does so with style, power and incredible speed. It delivers incredible levels of all ‘round performance. S/510 allows those with less space, or when pairing with high end speakers that are slightly less robust to have a perfect dance partner when the S/812 is simply too much of a great thing.
    For S/510, every aspect of the previous generation’s inner workings were examined without regard to its critical and customer-driven success. We turned a fresh eye to power requirements, driver improvements, and specialty filters, upgrading each-to extract all the extra performance possible. All this alongside the cabinet refinements necessary for those upgrades to emerge cleanly. This latest S range is a triumphant development that has exceeded every expectation of our design team.
    Our requirements were for far stronger deep bass output between 20-35 Hz, vastly improved theatre dynamics, and an even more open and spacious soundfield which benefits both music and film. We turned to our NextGen3 amplifier, tuned to 500 watts with substantial reserves of power, added a light film of carbon fibre to the rear of the driver to handle the extra power, and developed two new sets of custom filters to extract the utmost in brute force and spaciousness. Finally, we imbued S/510 with the ability to be stacked in 4- or 6-unit line arrays, just like our reference models.
    S/510 required upgrades to its ContinuousCast™ Alloy Cone to allow it to survive its massive power upgrades. To permit its thin, aluminum cone to survive 500 watts and incredibly long stroke, we added an ultra-lightweight backing of pure carbon fibre strategically placed over portions of the rear surface of the cone. This produces two benefits; it strengthens and stiffens the cone and also eliminates reversion, wherein the backwave inside the cabinet is now prevented from interfering with the main launch of bass into the room. The result is more accurate and far louder deep bass.
    Our uniquely tuned passive radiators use special suspensions, now with an additional 8mm of linear travel, to produce performance unlike conventional subwoofers. Our new SuperProgressive™ passive radiator produces extremely long travel allowing for very loud output while retaining the variable stiffness of its suspension. This allows it to act like a sealed box compact 12” design at low volumes and a high output 14” design at its limit.
    At 500 watts the NextGen3 amplifier is borrowed from our former flagship model and produces huge reservoirs of power and current. The 20%+ increase in power (previous version was 400 watts) is needed to deliver the high output levels needed for modern theatre, as well as to produce the extremely deep bass in a high end 2-channel system. This increase in power is necessitated by our development on the musical front of an all-new circuit termed PerfectFilter™ that balance both frequency extremes.
    PerfectFilter performs two seemingly disparate qualities; extending the strong, even response of the extreme low end of bass frequencies while simultaneously opening up air and delicacy in the middle and high frequencies of one’s system. Additionally, we applied customized PureTheatre™ filters to allow S/510 to keep up with modern theatre effects without breaking a sweat.

    Hi John. Thanks for creating such a beautiful product. I actually have a pair of S/3 SHO. I came from a single Strata III since 2005 and have never felt the need to upgrade. It was that good. But a pair of S/3 SHOs brought my system with Martin Logans to a whole new level. Fit and finish is a work of art. What I appreciate most about REL is low level late night listening. No matter how low I turn the system I can always tell the RELs are doing their thing. The cones are that light and fast.

    Currently using a pair of these with Marten Parker Duo speakers. Stunning 2 channel sound. Thinking about adding another pair and stacking them. Do you recommend anything under the rails to protect the lacquer finish of the top surface of the lower sub in the stack?
    Also, what would a third pair stacked, in the future, add?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  Рік тому +2

      Thank you for reaching out. Adding additional S/510 subwoofers to your current stereo pair, to build a stacked line array setup, is an excellent choice for improving the sub-bass performance of your home audio system. The addition of the next pair of subwoofers (to form a 4-sub array) will offer improvements over a stereo pair, though the full performance potential of a line array is achieved once you add the third pair for a full 6-subwoofer array. More information about the benefits of stacked subwoofer line arrays can be found in the following article from our website: rel.net/blog/2019-12-13/system-thinking/taking-bass-to-new-heights-with-the-serie-s-line-array/
      The bottoms of the feet/rails on the S/510 have felt pads, which is intended to protect the gloss finish on the lower units so that the top of the subwoofer's cabinet does not get scratched.

    I took the plunge and bought the S510 and am having mixed fortunes. I seem to need to adjust the volume and crossover for each LP or CD. Sometimes the sound is sublime (Bach’s Organ music for example) but oftentimes there is a background grumble which drives me nuts.

    Dear John, I have an /510. I tried to connect the high level connection onto my Odyssey Stratos Extreme amp (Class AB). When I switched the subwoofer on (the amp was switched off), the sub gave me an almighty hum!! How can I solve this? Please help!!!

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  2 роки тому

      If the subwoofer only hums when it is powered on but the amplifier is powered off, and the hum goes away when you power on the amplifier, then it is likely that this amplifier breaks connection between it's internal circuitry and output connections when it is powered off. This will create an open connection for the High Level cable when the amp is powered off, resulting in a hum from the REL. When this happens, we recommend either leaving the REL and your amplifier fully powered on at all times, or to power off the REL prior to powering off your amplifier.

    I have two of these in a high end system. It’s probably the worst 5k I have spent on my audio system. I should have just upgraded my main speakers. The problem lies with actual bass control. My high end mono amps can deliver really powerful bass and these simply cannot keep up. It is impossible to set the gain more than a quarter as even at moderate listening levels it will be way too much bass and the subs are clearly unable to reproduce it cleanly. If you like bass mad hip hop or rap….be cautious. That music is recorded at much higher levels with massive deep bass. These cannot handle that bass even at moderate levels and you will be alarmed by the sound as it suggests the subs are going to get damaged. I have a good size room with plenty of space so they are not in an environment that is unsuitable for them. I should have returned them really but the boxes are big and expensive to sent back. I would suggest audition at home before anyone buys two of these. I had one and it’s no use in a hifi system. No matter what, how much tinkering the settings and even getting help to set them up, one sub results in an uneven sound. You can clearly hear the imbalance. They don’t disappear like front speakers do.

      Thank you for reaching out. No spikes with all that power what stops it moving on the floor Mr Lord allways had them to fix it firmly to the floor why none now. And how does a stack connect?

    • @RELAcoustics
      @RELAcoustics  5 років тому +2

      We do not recommend using spikes with out current models, since the legs are designed to place the downward-firing woofer at a specific distance from the floor. Adding spikes to the legs changes this distance, thus altering the performance of the subwoofer. We recommend using Blu-Tack under the legs, which is typically used to secure posters to walls without nails or pins. This helps secure the subwoofer to the floor, and prevents it from moving during use.
