I have had bad luck with those type of fittings, you should take the lines to a hydraulic shop and get one piece lines fabricated, its not too expensive and the peace of mind of knowing your oil is in the system is priceless. Great job and congrats on the first start! So stoked for you!
Amen , felt so bad for him 😭 when they kept blowing off, one piece would be sweet 😔
34 years making hoses on site ….you’re right ! I only use crimped ends on ptfe stainless hoses 👍🏴
I agree and have had the same trouble with the lines and had hydraulic lines made, they never failed.
He created his own misfortune by not understanding how the hoses are assembled and installed. Once you understand - AND FOLLOW - the proper steps to making AN lines and hoses, they are not that hard to assemble correctly and are superior to most, if not all, crimped style hoses.
@@willieshaw2522 that's what I was going to say. AN fittings should be done like this: first, the female part needs to be fully seated on the end on the hose. Then secure it on a vice and thread the male part WITHOUT moving the female. Thay way you ensure the hose is perfectly seated onto the fitting, and there is no change for it to pop out
I'm getting sad the build series is almost over. I have really enjoyed watching the process, you guys have out done yourselves! Beautiful bus.
Early evening in Sunderland UK, realising the Kona bus journey is coming to an end soon 😢 have absolutely loved watching you and Lori and the journey you both have endured getting this beautiful bus reborn. Mitch you’ve had me in tears of sorrow and tears of joy, it’s been emotional, this was another great video guys 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😘

Hellllllll yeeaaahhh! Finaly! Congrat`s Mike, Lori and all of the family! Finaly we see Kona on the road - there where is his place! Awasome, man!!!
Since you insist on installing the axle boots WRONG; then they will fail again! The bolted seams need to be on the side of the Axle; NOT on the top or bottom.....!
Interesting, I sent photos to VW mechanics after installed the axle boots, they said looking good 🤦🏼♂️ They said bolts at clock 10 or 2
Get rid of all thoughs fittings, take the lines to a hydrolic place and have them make proper lines. Its cheaper than you spent on the crap you have and will be reliable!
Hello & good morning from Irvine, Southern California, Mike, Lori, & most especially, our awesome Lady Kona!! Kona, we all love you so much! Mike & Lori, you both are such true heroes for rescuing Lady Kona, restoring Her, & bringing Her back to life!! We love you all so much!!
That rubber drive boot may have been unused, and cracked, but it was made in West Germany, making it over 30 years old.
Vu que ton moteur n'est peut-être pas rodé. Je ne sais pas. Il faut après 1000 km.il faut changer l'huile. À toi d'y penser. Je vous aime.Dieu vous bénisse
ditch those pretty hoses and find something that work full time.
Oil hose, even insulated, laying on the exhaust like that? Is the hose rated for that? I'd make me very nervous. Oil leak pumped right onto a hot exhaust = instant car fire.
why didnt you do the whole restoration at your Dads instead of the other places?
15 minutes inhaling engine smoke could put you to sleep for ever!!
🤩Great job.. I really enjoyed it. Especially with the plane scenes 👌🌺🌺🌺
Might want to install a neutral safety switch along with a remote start switch in the engine compartment. I’ve watched all 78 episodes and congrats on a beautiful journey. I’m also building a 21 deluxe walk through, a single cab, and a 64 beetle. You’ve been a great inspiration! Thank you
So great to hear her running. It’s weird how invested I feel in this especially since I know it happened in the past.
I find with my old vdubs it’s always one step forward two steps back, but the lessons we learn from our mistakes stay with us don’t they Mitch🙂
Hopefully the guy who originally sold you Kona is watching to see what became of his old bus!
I still have his number... I texted him and he seems don't care and being cold to me 🤣 I think he is pissed it's not patina anymore or something 😛
Yet another amazing video , so many twists and turns , with the oils hoses, but glad you got there in the end , and the engine sounds awesome, we are both looking forward to the next episode
It's Alive! Can't wait for the next episode.
looking good so far...c'mon where is episode 79❓things are gradually starting to move forward...wonderful just to follow....it gets more exciting and exciting 😊👍
Sandals not the way to drive a shift stick! Very dangerous!
Bare feet is the only way to drive!
Thought he was crying tears of joy lol… was just burning from exhaust lol
Same here😂
hahahahahahah yeah my eyes was so sore from the smoke! 😛
Evening from Essex, UK 🇬🇧 Another great episode! Like most folks here, it is a little sad that the build is coming to an end… BUT… looking forward to hopefully coming along for adventures with you in Kona for many years to come! Cant wait for the next episode!
PS… who has a plane in their garden?? 😂❤🤙
When you started the engine up and the oil was gushing out and the engine wouldn't shut off, I was scared! Is it okay? I am not liking those braded hose kits. I think a regular black hose would work better with a hydrolic hose fitting.
these are the wrong pipes, they must be pressure-resistant pressure pipes that withstand the required pressure😂
The hose I got is up to 1,000 PSI and VW mechanics told me to get that hose
Primo Loaf. What a ton of work. Well done and thank you for sharing your journey. The axle boots may have torn from the axle tubes hanging down during disassembly. Concerned about the oil hose routing next to the exhaust, the type of hose, and the fittings. Did you check the transaxle oil level?
Great episode mate, those boots crack because of the shit quality rubber produced these days, Made in Germany means zero now days :( The 52 ambo had 72 year old rubber in perfect condition so crazy!! Great save on the oil leak and that was a big one. That ute was so nice :) What stoke hearing it fire up for the first time!!
Mitch, congratulations on getting the bus fired up! I was excited to watch this episode. You and Lori are a great team and the years that you've been working on this, sleeping in a van, spending time away from your family, struggling to get things done and covering all the expenses, yikes what work; but it was really worth it. To see the engine fire up and watch your reaction really demonstrates the level of commitment that you two have. Wow, it was a great episode. I'm excited to see more. So when you don't want to edit yet another video, just remember your audience loves them. I happy for you guys.
AWESOME !!! Happy for you guys .. Nice to see all of you’s smiling working together !! GOD BLESS 🥰❤️👍👍
Great work o nthe van. Im surprised you did not rust preventative spray wax / oil in the cavities before installing the belly pans just for good measure
Remember people are not perfect we all make mistakes Mic.Just be thankful you didn't blow the engine.God Bless you guy's.
That airplane Ill bet was made In Lock Haven, Pa. 25 minutes from me.
Great job with the bus the axle boots may have been on a shelf for years before you got them and had dried up before being installed and after getting installed they started to let go and break apart the oil lines need to be assembled correctly or they will not hold but if done correctly they are good even for fighter jets which is way more stressful than you bus will ever put on them
What a shame 2 oil leaks.
You always get some problems with new builds, but comes good in the end, well done for not getting to stressed, great video Mitch and Lori, hope you are both well
however long you think you need to take on a new build by now you know its twice as long,so give your self more time. running an engine without oil even for a short time is worrying one looking for leaks one to switch off at first shout....we in the UK got mostly stick shift and pullaway on hill starts look after the bus it looks great
Thursday #konathebus?? Yes please, great treat for mid week. Building projects like this will always have weird things pop up, glad you got it all handled and so very excited to see you get it driving. Much love from Texas
Hai good night ഈ പുതുക്കി പണികൾ കാണാൻ എന്ത് ഭംഗി
always an awesome feeling to get it running well. Who's Fuel Injection systems is this?
What a beautiful place, 💕 just luvd all the drone shots, everything so healthy and lush, sad for you after all that work oil leaks, that's how we learn, sooo 😊 good to see you doing your final things on the list, have fun 😁 God bless 🙏
you should try to cover or remove your anydesk id from your video
program was trashed so doesn't matter anymore :) but thanks for looking out
I think fixed oil lines are better
Bonjour je regarde vos vidéos depuis le début de la restoration qui me fait plaisir de regarger je voudrais savoir quand votre véhicule sera terminer j'ai hâte de le voir fini. merci a bientôt . Regis
de FRANCE
It is looking great and a few teething troubles show us all its a very real project, love your emotional moment at the end ❤
Yay! I am so excited to watch! 👍✨
I am half way through the video and I just CANNOT TAKE THE PRESSURE ANYMORE AAAAAAAH ...just like the hoses 8-D
all that work, all the expense just to ship it to a sea/salt climate for it to rust to pieces?
Oils well that ends well, as they say.
G'day,
Your getting really close now. All the little bits are slowly coming together.
Q. At 5.00 the cap over the bearing. Where did you buy these. If possible have you got a link.
Thanks for sharing another progress video ✌️ Peace from Melbourne Australia.
салюти, салюти... нагадує вибухи ракет - не зрозуміти тому по кому вони кожен день не прилітають :(
Sorry to see all your oil hose issues, but it was nice to see Kona start and run. I look forward to seeing Kona cruising the roads in Hawaii 😊
Your dad's place is beautiful. What a showplace.
That rubber sleeve was made in West Germany. West Germany doesn't exist since 1990, so i wouldn't say it's not that old. :) vulcanized rubber deteriorate in storage, and it's at least 35 years old.
Great update - glad that you got the problems sorted and great to see the engine running! Love the Cub!
love it ! real nothing works the first time. You have to earn it, and learn Great Job
I was hoping for the first drive today! Those fittings are notorious for fooling people into thinking the connection is secure.
lori behind the wheel in a stickshift my first advice, LEANBACK and RELAX, l.o.l it"s not that dificult
Hola Mic, buenas noches.
Gracias.
I forget, is this going to be a show bus or something? Hopefully you're not really gonna drive that on the road...near other cars/objects that could scratch/dent/soil...or worse.
Next time... restoring this beautifull Wilton vise =) =)
Well that’s the thing about working on old cars, just when you think you have an issue solved another rears its head. She’s so close Mic I can’t feel it, next video or so and she’ll be running. So couple of things I noticed, your buddies single cab is f’ing beautiful, two it was super smart to keep some of the coloured bed liner for the bottom of Kona, and the Kona t-shirt you have on at the beginning of this video are you selling them? And if so where do we go to get one?
A VW Transporter with an oil leak. That takes me back. I always thought the space in the engine compartment was to allow you to carry an extra couple of bottles of oil. Hope you can get it fixed.
I suggest to get some gates make up hose, remove that make up hose / wire braid hose you have on the engine.
That type hose you have on your bus, never was any good. anytime you have a make up hose come apart,/ and it's new, that is a red flag. wrong stuff.
I made up high pressure hose for all types of machinery for 40 years. trust me. that wire braid was more for looks.
Hey, bummer to hear... mechanics told me what hose to get.... this is what I got www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-230606?seid=srese1&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH516D9RL-Rg5D60eKbZDArI6UquW9jPYYgH3QqOTp7rlIYJG8bY0oqwaAg5FEALw_wcB
Its looking really good! ❤
Woua classic american family 😊un bonjour de la France 🖐️,europ, merci encore pour les belles videos👍🥳
you could keep the axle boots and just patch the holes with some 3M 5200 marine adhesive?
The countryside there looks beautiful. 😍. I thought you were crying when the engine idled but it was the smoke. 😄
Holy shit you almost cooked that motor!
😂😂 yeah I freaked out haha
Hi Mick Mayer a little overfload sump connected to the cooler and the feedpumo of the motor and all connected with fixed lines are good i don,t know the size thicknes of those lines i think that the connectors ( blue and red colored) are to weak, i hope you succeed
Bien, muchos saludos desde Huayllay Pasco -Peru
Mayer is not good typed it is Maybe, i hope you can make sens of my reaction, i like the movies you make and Kona is very well in good hands ❤
That rubber boot has 'Made in West Germany' written on it. That suggests to me that it is a very old part, even if it were sold new. West Germany hasn't been in existence for 30 years and all products made in the Federal Republic of Germany are labelled as being made in Germany.
West Germany? Hmm I have to check! 🫣
The boot said "Made in West Germany" at 14:11. It might be "new" but 35 years old.
Arrepiante, arrepiante...
🙌🏻🤠🇧🇷❤️🇺🇲
Make sure that axleboot is installed the correct way. The split should point be horisontally.
It would be better to connect the battery ground strap directly to the engine. And another from the engine to the chassie.
Love your vids and your incredible attention to detail.... to the absurd! I realize you're providing a public service and "how to" for others interested in doing the same.... however, your time and attention to this vehicle borders on annal! How can you take it out in the real world? Rain, sleet, snow, mud, thrown rocks on highway, dents in parking lots, crashes, theft, etc! This is now best suited for a museum piece. Call VW in Germany and send them your vid links. Tell them you want $2 million and a reasonable replacement vehicle. they need this for a show car in the dealerships around the world. Don't put this precious creation out amongst the great unwashed! You've created a piece of art... and better yet, you've got the vids to document every painstaken minute of your creation!
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥💪🏻
never give up! It worked! Bravo!
Kona is like a male cat, Male cat like to spray their territory, guess Kona mark his territory so your parents can remember him 😆
😍 vertical video DENIED!
😂😂
Que pasada, brutal verla arrancada ya, y ahora con más ganas de ver el siguiente episodio jajaja 🤙🏼
Nice work ❤you all
Labor of Love hang in there guys!!
It's a live! Unbelievable how often you have to take things apart over and over again...
Yeah! So crazy!
At last it runs! 😁♥️
HI MY FRIEND MIC WHEN YOU WILL UPLOAD THE EPISODE 79 FOR VW BUS?
I think every thing is okay. It was all filmed in 2022!.😮
How to get to that driveshaft with the belly panel glued on!!???
Hey that color on the bed liner spray didn’t look like it was the shade ! 😂 Was that too soon ? 😂
If they still exist, you need to find the transaxle boots made in Germany. They’re much better quality. In fact any of the rubber made products made in Germany are much better. But to qualify my opinion, it’s been years since I was in the business but it was true back then. 40+ years ago. 😬
Hey, did you see in video I show “made in Germany” labeled on boot 😅
The connection on the filter is a different color, white. on the engine it is the same color as the hose connection.
Can you run steel oil lines instead of rubber hoses, those rubber lines would worry me.
And the 79 episode????im waiting for.... friend😢
Clean the boot inside and out and use black silicone one hundred percent, it'll be fine
Always have little problems new parts 🙄🤷🏼♂️ now fixing beautiful 👌🏻👍🏻🎉
Haha yeah, so much to learn 😅
Ohhh. It was smoke. I thought you were getting emotional.😉
