Hey Scrappers! Josh here with another VEGAS Pro tutorial for you and this time I'll be showing you the best render settings for VEGAS Pro. I personally use these exact settings every single time I render a video because it provides the best quality, lowest file size, and fastest render time! The plugin software is called Voukoder and you can download it at: www.voukoder.org

Nice! This is the best(!) video I know about telling how to use Voukoder and explaining its basic settings. I fully agree with your choices, settings and explanations. Maybe I should've called it differently in 2017 but you're almost right: In my imagination it's pronounced "Voocoder". It's a long story ... So what does "faststart" do? Normally MP4 stores it's meta data (i.e. width, height, flags, ...) at the end of the file. "Faststart" forces the muxer to move this meta information to the beginning at file. The advantage might be that YT does not need to wait for the upload beeing completed to start processing a video, but gets all information it needs right at the start of the upload. The downside is the muxer has to crawl through gigabytes of data to move the data to the start of exported file. That's what's happening when the export seems to hang at 99% or 100% for a couple of minutes during the export.

    • @niallshannon1212
      @niallshannon1212 3 роки тому +2

Interesting, so if I'm right in understanding: "Faststart" may be a bit longer to export but it would help with the UA-cam upload as the meta data is stored at the start of the MP4 file to assist with processing?

  • @Kvack00

For UA-cam specifically, I have found that recording at a high bitrate/quality such as CQP 15 with OBS then rendering with VBR 24 average and 48 max (UA-cam's recommended for 1440p) gives better results and decreased pixilation as opposed to recording high (cqp 15) then rendering high as well (cqp 15)
This setup gives better results than recording at VBR 24 average and 48 max then rendering at the same bitrates.
This gives better results for 1080p AVC and even for 1440p - 4k with VP9
I tested this by recording a demo from Team Fortress 2 so the gameplay would be the exact same every time, then recording with different values and rendering with different values then going frame by frame to compare, mostly noticeable on small, moving text, and even crosshairs.

Thanks for the video and the elaborate explanations. Unfortunately, like many commenters here, I cannot discern a genuine speed increase or file size advantage. You would still have to shrink your files with Handbrake if you want a genuine file size reduction. Mind you, my setup already rendered at about 20-25fps in VegasPro 19, depending on the content, and I was not discontent with the results. In the Voukoder dialogue, I selected H.264 or H.265, always with my GPU active and various quality levels in Quantizer, down to 23 even, and the resulting footage looks good, but there is no noticable speed increase or file size decrease, maybe just a little in the lowest quality settings. Voukoder does make it easier to access certain settings, so there is that, but it either needs more tweaking or it simply is not a good fit for VegasPro 19 on my system.

Rendering speed is all hardware dependant. My personal comparisons showed Voukoder to beat all other render options in speed and size. The settings you're currently using must be much higher quality that you need in Voukoder so I suggest moving the CRF scale to 20 and see how that goes.

I rendered with Voukoder and it's using only max 46% of my CPU (Ryzen 3700X) and barely touches my GPU in the HEVC NVENC setting. At HEVC x265 it only used max... 56% of my CPU. Only one thread was fully utilized.
In both cases I got the same rendering speed, which was still slower than HEVC/AAC rendering built into Vegas Pro, so Voukoder is not really helping with faster rendering :/

    • @Gulgazor

Let me help you out with this one my dear friend.
VP9 isn't something YOU decide it's something UA-cam decides. If you run a "bigger" channel, UA-cam will automatically render your videos with the better VP9-encoder, I don't know what the actual criteria is for UA-cam to handle you as a "bigger" channel.
WHAT YOU WANT: However there is a way to force UA-cam to render your videos with the VP9 encoder, once there were 3 ways but they got "fixed" by UA-cam so there is only one way remaining and it's this one:
Render your videos in 2k or higher (2560x1440).

So I actually tested this out with the settings you gave me in the video here and my old settings I preset in Vegas where I was happy with my results. Rendered numerous videos. I can conclude hands down that the Voukoder is a waste of time for me and uninstalled it from my computer almost as fast as I installed it. My videos came out grainy, messed up with noise pixelation, and no worthwhile difference not to mention is took a ridiculously long time to render as compared to my main settings I had been using. So I tried it and had hopes after I watched your video because hey why not, but I can't say anything good about it and went back to my original render settings. It's up to you. Cineform is a great codec designed for 4k footage and higher so I'd give them both a try and see the differences.

Vegas doesn't really like Cineform if you plan to do more editing with such a file. For intermediates I'd just output ProRes (Voukoder does this).

Well, did everything suggested and...Voukoder (or maybe the settings) destroys my footage, meaning the output (mp4) is super-choppy, pixelation etc.
I utterly cannot use Voukoder. I'll stick to my standards.

Try running Task Manager as Administrator, go to the Details tab and search for your Vegas EXE file. Right click it, click Set Priority and set it over Above Normal. Tell me if it works, it does for me!

So, I played now for a few ours with different settings and it's a mixed result for me.
With QP on 24 I got a similar quality with smaller file size, but one thing always suffers thats the sharpness.
It doesn't matter which settings I use, I always get a worse result as with the old render settings. It is not by much,
but you can still see the difference, especially if alot of text is in the video.

@@TheValiant Sometimes it's a double edged sword and you have to choose the lesser of two evils. Either have a bit bigger of a file size and retain some sharpness or have a smaller file size and lose some sharpness. I personally go for the bigger file size as I want all my original's to be the best quality they can since YT compresses them upon upload.
