I'm making my way through the NG cycles with my level 60 strength character. On NG+3. The pulley crossbow and rabbath's cannon are invaluable at this point. Pulley for bosses with burred bolt, and hefty rot pots are definitely required. Radahn, for example, takes huge damage from these both. That, plus zamor's sword. Rabbath's cannon is great for clearing flying mobs, definitely useful for mobile enemies. Worth noting is that great arrows destroy nearlu all NPCs. It takes a little bit, but with 2 arrow talismans+spear you can kill any NPC whenever they begin an attack
Pulley Crossbow is a solid off hand choice for a Dex focused thrusting sword build. Paired with the Spear talisman and elemental bolts + talismans, you can still perform reasonable damage and extend poise break pressure even if you find yourself out of range from an enemy.

Crossbows are such an interesting weapon category in these games. It is very much intentional that they have poor base damage, no scaling and limited ammo, as that is the case since Demon's Souls. My guess is that the developers just want these weapons to be easy to use sidearms.
The only reason I can think of for crossbows not having scaling atleast for physical is because in real life crossbows relie solely on accuracy and bows are based on accuracy and draw strength no excuse for any int or faith or arc lack of scalings
The no scaling would be cool if these crossbows were stronger than bows at low levels but they aren’t plus for some you have requirements that would scale better with other damage options. They all need flat damage buffs and bolts need damage buffs or should be doubled in quantity when crafting and buy to give a reason to use them
Personally, I think Repeating Fire should use neither stamina nor fp. No stamina, because all of the stamina consumption in crossbows should be when reloading instead of shooting, after all, shooting is just pulling a trigger. No fp, because I feel like the logic behind crossbows not getting scaling is them being purely mechanical devices that are unaffected by your attributes, but if that is the case, then it shouldn't make a difference whether or not you've had your powerade this morning.
Will you consider releasing all of your Elden Ring Weapon tier videos on 4k bluray? You could also include behind the scenes footage, bonus interviews/commentary, etc.
I do think that scaling is nor the issue but i think a lot of changes should be made to make them worth not just as a sidearm 1)you should be able to protect yourself with a shield while attacking (shooting or holding the shot but not cocking). 2)make them deal good damage/scale with sonething while in your main hand, so you can still have the sidearm for the PvPers meanwhile those that want to use them to snipe or as a part of their kit can do that. 3)more range to the regular crossbows: crepus can't have a shortbow range with this description "Used for sniping, it has a very long range" 4)more AoWs, something like the bow ashes and some utility ashes that don't deal damage like quickstep. Some people think you should not enchanted cause they are mechanical: but if you ca use a magic arrow in a normal bow as an AoW (enchanted shot) you should too in a crossbow. Heck some unique stuff even like an headshot AoW for the crepus black bow. 5)the ballistas should reload like crossbows so with a separate cocking and shooting... seriously don't know why it does not work like that. Maybe i'll edit if i find something i wanted to add to this.

Yea Crossbows and ballistas are PvP weapons. Sniping with Cannons or applying stats effects. They are just, meh for PvE, it’s really hard to think of a use for them against the AI.

iirc you can only apply this AoW to shields and torches for some dumb reason. I really wish it worked for all of them, would add tons of build variety.
Thing is the no skill ash substitutes the AoW. Meanwhile crossbows don't use the AoW while you use them in the left hand but the regular R2 attack when you press L2. So having no skill changes nothing

Having range for picking off weaker enemies or aggroing single targets in a group is great, but then why include such a large number of different versions while also having such small differences? At least with straight swords there are usually unique differences on some of them, enough to not bother criticising the few that are bad. With crossbows it's just annoying having several pointless weapons that only end up taking space in the inventory without reason. Bows aren't much better, but at least they get some useful stuff like Rain Of Arrows and more status options. Crossbows are mostly made obsolete by the mere existance of throwing weaponsm so one-handing a crossbow also loses its appeal. The ballistas are at least funny and feel like they have SOME use, though as mentioned in the video, they are usually outclassed by great bows. Lords of the Fallen has done crossbows better than Elden Ring.
Why do you only show the AR numbers for a second each time? No one can read or understand that fast. Just keep them on while talking or make them smaller or maybe always have the AR in the corner of the current weapon, that would actually really help.

Don't some of the crossbows get extra AR with special bolts? IE: Full Moon w/meteor bolts, Rabbath w/its new exploding magic bolts, etc?
I'm pretty sure it's the opposite, with the weapon losing the elemental damage without the proper bolts
