I’m from England and I lived in Kanab, southern Utah, for three months in 2018, staying with a Mormon family (I’m an atheist, myself). I used to see women and girls from the Hildale/Colorado City FLDS community, in their prairie dresses with their long hair in the distinctive plaited style, in the supermarkets when I went grocery shopping. They would never smile when I smiled at them, and I felt sorry for these girls who were standing right next to me at the checkout, yet who occupied a different world, where their lives were controlled by the dictates of Warren Jeffs from his prison cell. It’s so interesting to hear what life was like for Joanna, and good to hear that she did enjoy her childhood. I look forward to the next instalment.
I’m really glad to hear that they care for special needs children no only at home but they make sure they get the proper medical care. You guys need to get some microphones for when you do interviews like this. Sam comes through loud and clear, Mellisa I could hear fine but I had a hard time hearing Joanna.
I can hear it fine but I'm always watching UA-cam with wireless headphones. I had to turn the volume pretty high for this video. So, then I have to pull the headphones off for all of the commercials.
Hi Joanna! Soooo good to see you beautiful girl. Your family will always hold a special place in my heart. Joseph was the one of the most tender hearted kids I've known. Your mother used to come visit my mother and would bring her three oldest with her. I often ended up babysitting while the women (my mom and her cousins) had their coffe parties. Because my family was a lot more lienant we had tv, movies, news on and off. One of the times your mom brought her kids our kids were watching the Lion King. Because of the extreme strictness I marched Joseph over to your mom and made him asked your mom for permission to watch. She actually said yes. It was the cutest craziest thing I've ever seen. Every exciting, emotionally, and sad thing he would run to your mother and tell her a play by play of what was happening in the show. Running clear across the house blubbering to where you couldn't understand a word he was saying when Mufassa died, but couldn't stay to explain because he might miss something. Just back and forth and back and forth through the whole thing. So invested, feeling all the feels, speaking so fast... He has a special place in my heart ❤️ Very sweet genuine kid, (if he was mad at you you knew it 😄) When he gave you a hug it wasn't out of obligation it was cause he meant it.
This one made me cry!!! Thank you so much for your kind words. I’d love to stay in contact with you! And yes Joseph was the sweetest big brother. He will always be my hero and I always love hearing more stories about him! Thank you so much
I love your channel for the content! I like how respectful you are when discussing mainstream mormonism and the FLDS. It's definitely a more balanced approach than some other ex-mormon channels. I enjoy learning about mormonism and its different sects due to the fascinating history. I don't know if you've ever done a history of the FLDS but that would be an awesome episode for the history nerds that follow your channel.

At least amongst those who have left and are sharing their experiences with us, that is. It is so interesting to hear the accounts of more people as time goes by. Thank you all for sharing!
I agree with you, I struggle with polygamy. It sounds like before Warren, they seemed to be mostly happy. The kids are close learned trades, and skilled labor. Let me be clear- I don’t agree with anything they teach or force on people. I sounds like they wanted their kids to be cared for.
I can’t imagine the stress in the household. We need to get the FLDS mothers to teach the world about stress & household management! I would sign up for that class!
Sadly that's the point they have many skills they could teach people however because we ain't in the fold of what they believe to be right sadly we don't get that blessing .. makes me think that flds have been so severely brainwashed and don't realise that they have many skills and ways of live like how they do the house and how self reliant they are which could actually help them in the big world .. just hope that many of them will use this time now and slowly become the ppl they should be and not that warren Jeff's has created .
Stress can’t be managed. Even if you ignore it, if there is a stressor your body will react and produce hormones like adrenaline and histamine. So longterm this will have negative health effects. Another maybe easier example to this is city noise. City people will be used to it to the point they would rarely notice it consciously. But research found out that noise at night increases the heart rate due to stress hormones just the same as that noise would do to visiting country people. Meaning living in the city has negative longterm effects esp when the house isn’t sufficiently insulated no matter if the person notices that noise consciously or not.
I can totally see that girls that grow up brainwashed and religiously conditioned in a polygamous cult end up believing that sharing a husband is the will of God, but my mind boggles at the fact that there are also some cases of women who enter that cult from the outside world and 'convert to polygamy' as it were. 😳

@@GrowingUpinPolygamy I'm serious Dude... When I win the lottery were making a movie 🎬 🎞 🎥... I think their fathers are brothers or half brothers. I assuming since it insinuates that they are blood related, it is Joanna's real father, not step father. So confusing, when you are use to families with 3-4 cousins. They must have a thousand cousins or so with all the half siblings.

I think it's bc they seem to be in a church type building so therefore very echoie
We are sending it out to a third party to get the issues resolved for part two this week. So sorry!
All the polygamists I know take very good care of their special needs children but were wayyyy to tolerant of child SA. I felt bad for my friends who didn't really have fathers. Weird that fathers are put on a pedestal but they don't really spend time with their kids.
How big was this house where all these people lived?
It had three apartments. 13 bathrooms and 21 bedrooms
This one was a little hard to hear
Ya the room must be larger. Had to crank it and then I put in ear phones in the end
So sorry! We are sending out the audio to a third party to try and get it fixed before part 2.
The sound is off
Whatever happened to her dad?
My dad got kicked out of the church when I was 3
I would Like to know if Sam changed the dipers of his own children ?
Are Joanna and Shem related? I notice they both have the same last name. They both seem to have the same courage to stand against Warren.
This one I almost gave up on I couldn’t hear it
Once you leave the cult, are all ties severed with family members remaining within the cult?
Man Dude! You should be portraying Joseph Smith in a movie 🎬... What do you think 🤔 about that?
Hahaha I've heard that once or twice.
@@GrowingUpinPolygamy I'm serious Dude... When I win the lottery were making a movie 🎬 🎞 🎥... It will be called Joseph and Ema... a love story... ❤️ I have this idea where Joseph is wearing a long black trench coat standing in front of Ema and a crowd of kids performing a magic trick when 50 white doves🕊 fly from sleeve of his jacket up out of his white hat, he then pulls one remaining dove from it handing it to Ema "To you my lady" and then he bows..."How did you do that?" NOW WHICH ONE OF YOU KID'S THINK YOUR STRONG ENOUGH TO WRESTLE ME?
How are Sam and Joanna related? Whose mother or father make them related? Anther awesome video.
They are cousins. They share the same paternal grandfather. =)
really bad sound, not sure what happened but it is really hard to hear you.
❣❣❣
How are Sam and Joanna related?
I read that they’re 4th cousins and share the same paternal grandfather
@@clarebug4 if they share a grandfather that would make them 1st cousins
I think their fathers are brothers or half brothers. I assuming since it insinuates that they are blood related, it is Joanna's real father, not step father. So confusing, when you are use to families with 3-4 cousins. They must have a thousand cousins or so with all the half siblings.
Had to move past this one because of bad audio.
So sorry! We are sending out the audio to a third party to try and get it fixed before part 2.
There's a great book by an LDS author that shows that there's perfect harmony between the prophetic statements concerning the garden of Eden being in Missouri and the Old Testament account concerning the garden of Eden. It's called Canaan, Babylon, and Egypt A Comparative Theological Analysis on Creation sold by Eborn Books.
Has anyone looked into why the special needs kids are the way they are, I guess the question is, is it because of inbreeding?
Encounter and hear about this being an european guy from Sweden it is almost unreal, close to a taliban cult,,,,
Sorry, but have to say it scares me a little bit that anyone can contact and meet Joanna... The internet is full of psychos, so please be careful!!
Also the sound is very quiet in this video, I have to put the maximum sound and still can't hear well if I am doing the chores while listening.
