    I personally run SE V7s more often, just because I like supercardioids more.

    The V7 seems to have better overall clarity but the SM58 has more warmth and lower end. Both are great! I think more people should be looking into handheld dynamic mics for spoken word because alot of the lower end "podcast mics" seem to value aestheics over sound.

      I completely agree with you; people seem to put a little too much stock into the visuals when they rely on audio only. Thanks for the comment!

    The plosives were a bit stronger on the SE V7 but you can deal with that pretty easy. The SM 58 is a tad warmer but for most people if you didn’t do a A/B on them I think they could be happy with either.

    I think the SE-V7 sounds more even. Warm and natural.There is sort of a more naked clarity to the Sure SM 58. Plus it looks like an ice cream cone. The SE-V7 just looks cool, and glows red. Podcastage mentioned in passing (during a different review) that the Se-V7 was one of his favorites. And he NEVER openly favors any mic, as far as i've seen.

      Honestly you had a better analysis in a short paragraph than my video. AN ICE CREAM CONE?! You're so right. Now I can't unsee it, thanks.

    The v7 doesn't have any less bass response or range. In fact it has better high and low range. Use both foam pop filters at the same time to tame plosives with the v7. It's a better mic.

    I feel like I watched a LOT of mic review videos before settling on the SM58 & Zoom Podtrak P4. However, I don’t remember hearing anything about this SE V7. It sounds really good! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve fallen in love with the SM58 pretty quickly. But I’m wondering if I would have gone with the SE V7 if I had heard this video review first.
    That said, I also use the SM58 for business calls via Google Voice. If a conversation begins to go sideways, a little bit of proximity effect from the SM58 seems to calm things down

    • @danthecanman574

      Thanks for the kind words! SM58 truly is a solid microphone, so don’t doubt your choice there! I also found that it requires quite a bit more amp both pre- and post-, where as the V7 picks up a tad better, which simplified my workflow, especially on the podcasting side.
      Again, if you’re happy with the SM58, no reason to switch! Really glad you enjoyed the video.

    God thank you for this video. I like geeking out over audio, but just hearing a basic comparison with a few opinions is awesome.
    The reality is that if you spend at least $100 you're probably getting a good microphone. You don't need to go a lot higher unless you want to record studio vocals.

    SE V7- Better pick up than SM 58
    More Crisp Tone and less Bass.
    SM58 - Comparingly it's Little less pick up but good Bass for vocals. .
    The more close you come the bass is felt.. It's a strudy mic..

    60s of talking nothing of value -> "we are going straight to the point" -> "either are fine"
    To my ears the sm58 boosts the "hum" part of voice, it kind of sounds a little irritating compared to the V7. V7 is pretty natural and pleasant overall.

    • @danthecanman574
      @danthecanman574  3 роки тому +1

      I think it'd be silly for anyone to degrade either mic - Both ARE great, it's more up to preference, which is why I hope people watch as many videos as they would like so they can hear which one sounds better to them.
      Great observations on the hum part of sm58!

    I think a better comparison wouldve been the sE V7 vs. the shure BETA58a as they are a bit more similar rather than the sm58

    • @danthecanman574
      @danthecanman574  2 роки тому +1

      Not a bad idea at all. I decided to have the SM58 as the "control," since during my research I kept seeing that as the one microphone everyone talked about. So it made sense that a lot of people know that one specifically as context. But I might have to look into doing a comparison of those two next! Thanks!

    Is v7 good for who record vocal but don't have acoustic room?

    • @danthecanman574
      @danthecanman574  Рік тому

      Great question! Since it is a condenser mic, it will pick up a good bit of noise if you have lots of loud noise around you (like vents, people etc.) If you're able to edit pretty well in post, it's not a huge issue (i record a podcast in an office building and it sounds great after I do some noise reduction), but in general, for loud ambiance, dynamic mics are preferred since they do a better job of shutting out background noise.
