@@Podcastage This thread got me curious, so down the rabbit hole...
      - ultimate = last
      - penultimate = 2nd from last
      - antepenultimate = 3rd from last
      - preantepenultimate = 4th from last
      - propreantepenultimate = 5th from last
There are some proposals for 6th+ but apparently no consensus. 🎤🐇🕳

Honestly, I think I might prefer this over the V7 on your voice specifically. Sounds really good. So natural and comforting. sE really does kick butt.

Very interesting. I can see why you'd prefer this over the V7. I just think the V7 offers something a bit more complete and compelling to my ears. I like this for the price, but think I'd reach for the v7 if I had to choose between the two. Great to know that they've put out a mic that competes with their 2x the price offering though.

I honestly continue to be impressed with that XM8500, what an amazing value (I actually bought it after your review long time ago).
And also that handling rejection on bigger brother V7 is impressively good.

Honestly really good for the price. I think I like it more than the behringer just because it seems flatter, which would be better for most use cases.

I preferred it to the behringer as well. The XM8500 was a bit sharper sounding in the treble, but it's also 1/2 the price, so it's still go that going for it.

I read the description after noticing; shouldn't be surprised you caught that. It seemed you were trying to move it gingerly during the off-axis test but holy frijoles that handling noise was BAD. Great sound for $50 though, actually sorta tempted to get one to complement the V7! It's actually intriguing how they don't have frequency response from when it's 2in off like they do with the V7 so it's easier to compare, but it sounds... not ideal from right on top.

    • @Podcastage
      @Podcastage  Рік тому

Graphs are nearly impossible to compare from mic to mic because there's no standard which is kind of a pain. 1m away is fine and all, but I can't think of many people who use mics a meter away...certainly not on stage or in content creation. Maybe for orchestral recordings or drum overheads, and definitely for room mics .

Countless performers need a switched dynamic, in fact, a number of them. Every tour I’ve been on in the last 15 years has at least 6 on stage for performer talkback to engineers. Making them in full-hiding black was wise. sE should sell them in 6-packs - $249 out the door, hold the stickers!
In all honesty it doesn’t sound great. Does that matter?

Hi everyone, thanks for that great test. Once again I believe it would be perfect if you could add a female voice to your test.
    3 points:
    1. sE rocks 😄 whatever the mic you buy from this brand, you won't be disappointed.
    2. sE seems to start a strategy of making cheaper version of some of their best products: After releasing the DMC 3 & 6 from the dynacaster (who becomes DMC 7) they do the same with the V2 from the V7.
What is noticeable is that it is done without downgrading the sound quality.
    3. This mic compete (with the same strategy) with the shure PGA 48 lc which is the little brother of the sm48 and both at the same price range (you also made a review of this mic).
I was planning to buy a V7, the handling noise is not a problem to me, I admit the only thing who makes me still choose the v7 is the beauty of this mic, especially the limited edition series.

Ouch. Great lunge into the box void.
Second ouch. It's not often I hear the nuances you're talking about. The handling on this was at fifine k688 levels. And here's it's on a hand style mic! I guess physical cartridge isolation costs a big chunk of the extra $50. In a way it vindicates the poor handling of some of the rising budget brands as clearly it is hard to do all of cartridge+shell+isolation+profit well in $50.
3rd ouch: (unless you meant only your Sunday podcasts were de-monetising) YT threw two ads at me at the start. 🧙🖖

This channel has too much overhead to shut off ads and monetization. If I didn't have any of that, I would have had to shut down in year 1 because I would have just drove myself into crippling debt to buy everything to review. I thought I stated I was only shutting off advertisements on the podcast channel, not every channel I run. Sorry if that was confusing.

Your review's are more in-depth anyway, so I was curious to see what you thought about it! Yup, another worthy contender from sE. It has its place in the locker, I believe. Good value and it sounds good on baritone voices as well. And speaking about handling sensitivities, I had a CRAZY experience with this mic in a desktop mic stand picking up some odd sounds. Figured out what it was, but is specific to this mic (so far).

I know you also speak the price of the microphones during this comparison, but maybe some folks would be interested in a quick visual reference also?
    Thoughts?

    • @Podcastage

Thanks for the suggestion. I don't really want to add even more data to the lower third because they're already too dense. Adding more numbers would just make it more cluttered. I state the price of the mics and place them in order of price lowest to highest already so I think that should probably be more than sufficient for most people.

    • @Podcastage

Or are you just looking to upgrade for the sake of upgrading? My advice is always to upgrade with intent, so if there's nothing in particular wrong with the XM8500 that you're trying to fix, I would say stick with the XM8500.
