That geezer really left an indelible mark on us. How extraordinary it must be to embark on such a forensic journey back in time to precisely locate what was in Allan's mind the exact moment he recorded that solo, it's clearly a painstaking archeological excavation into his soul , remarkable and spot on as usual 🍻
❤ amazing player, teacher & Human. Bless you!
I AM A HUGE.
MASSIVE FAN OF YOURS SINCE 1992.."GUITAR FOR THE PRACTICING MUSICIAN MAGAZINE"..."RESUMÈ" COLUMN...
YOU HAVE BEEN A HUGE PART OF MY LIFE AND NOT EVEN KNOWN ABOUT...
THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS VIDEO. .YOU HAVE OUT DONE ALLAN HOLDSWORTH. .
amazing Tone Derryl....can you make avideo how to make \holdsworth tone with tonex pls?
My dream for the future is to not just see this music alive, but flourishing. I hope to hear Allan alive in others as long as I live. Another great cover.
Love this! Missing Allan... thank you for sharing!
My pleasure!
thanks for taking the time to get this down.
You make it look so easy. How you can learn and then memorize Allen stuff is beyond me.
That’s what I always say!
The memorization alone is a worthy feat!
It's easier when you love it. I know basically all of Allan's solos note for note (in my head - haven't translated it to the fingers) because I've listened to his music repeatedly to an absurd degree. I know all of it, phrase by phrase. I imagine it's similar for Derryl.
Fantastic playing. I'm always amazed that you are able to memorize these solos.
Another awesome job, Derryl!
Thanks Paul!
That tone is phenomenal! Sick playing as always!
and he is having fun playing it.....awesome as always
Spectacular job as usual, Derryl!
Thank you! Cheers!
Whaaaaat ? This is extraordinary for real!
If I could get a tone like that, I don't think I would ever put my guitar down. Amazing work, as usual!
Superb !
Congratulations !
Thank you! Cheers!
I usually don't like it when musicians cover other musicians material. With Darryl I feel a bit different about that. It is an extraordinary feat to even try to play Allans music - and then do it so well.
I appreciate that. Learning all the Allan solos is like taking a lesson from Allan. Working them up to tempo keeps my technique fit too.
It´s not a cover, it´s tribute. That´s the big differenz.
Spot on, as usual. Great work Derryl :)
Thank you! Cheers!
That sounds so great
One of my favourite Allan solos, played flawlessly Derryl!
Amazing, Derryl! 👏🏻
Thanks so much!
So good 😮
❤ God bless ya Derryl.
What a stunning tone, Derryl - and the playing is just SO incredible & beautiful too! Nice one...I'd love top be able to learn at least a % of that style
Right now I'm booked up with students but if you're interested in lessons I could put you on the waiting list.
Awesome, thanks!
Superb !

Wow!
Dude what 😮
🔥
Great stuff. You got "that" tone, too. (just tell ME how you get that tone...)
Allan , how ‘out’ can you play?
“Yes”
👏👏👍👍
Well done. Imagine a super intelligent extra terrestrial super musical being. Producing music so alien to our ears the music takes some getting used to. Like learning a new musical language. How on could an earthling possibly produce something that fits this description? Incredible imagination & boldly daring to go where no other person had been before. Endless experimenting & an instinct for building compositions from what's found both experimentally & in their mind's ear.
Thank you Allan
Well he DID listen to a lot of horn players.
That was AH's improv inspiration.
👏👏👏👏❤️
Amazing! ❤ we need a lesson of this

When the author of Riff Magazine did the TABs RIGHT!
Nice work, brother! Hope you are doing well! Best, D 🤙🏻
You can eliminate the guitar track with AI. And recording with DAW would be better than with camera mic.
I actually did that already. I plan on syncing that up with this video today. I used RipX DeepRemix to take out Allan's track but in order to totally remove it, I had to remove the keys as well. I'll send you a link when it's put together.

Derryl, is this a 6 string version of the blue Vader… I saw you unbox a 7 string Vader (multi scale). Love the staggered dot inlays. Also, do you have this Tonex capture / model that you are using here. Thank you!
Yes, it is! Although this guitar has a satin finish and the 7 has a gloss finish. I sell my patches here derrylgabel.net/product/an-afternoon-with-derryl-gabel-download-version/ Keep in mind, in order for my patches to work, you must have Amplitube 5 Max v2 and ToneX with the Mesa Boogie Reference Package.
nice job, as always, (i think i already commented!), but i just wanted to ask - some of the fingerings you're using here are different than the ones in the REH booklet transcription and seem to align more accurately with what i would expect allan to have used. did you use a different transcription, or alter the ones in the booklet?
I didn't use the book that came with the video. I have found that book to have many errors or typos. All my fingerings come from watching the video closely using the Transcribe software. I also used RipX DeepRemix to extract Allan's track so I could hear things clearer like the climax of the solo near the end. It was hard to hear all the notes that he was playing but when I used RipX I was able to hear everything.
@@derrylgabel thanks for the reply. i've noticed several errors in the booklet as well. odd that there would really be any, as they had the video to refer to!
Im a noob, are you listening to the sound in the room? if so, how?
I'm using a Profire 2626 audio interface. It has 26 inputs and 26 outputs. I have one set of stereo outputs going into a set of studio monitors and another set of stereo outputs going into the camera.
Tori Slusher wants to chat...
She's a great player!
Very, very impressive
Thank you! Cheers!
Impressive playing, Sir!
You've really got to perform some Mahavishnu Orchestra, too, since you kind of look like John McLaughlin!
