Yeah it is not exactly Mexican but Native American, from southern US to central Americans ate Corn in a piece of wood and added powdered chilis and other stuff. Maize after all is mesoamericas staple crop.

in the north of mexico the corn is prep different, we use butter, fresh cheese, cream(but not soured cream), powdered chile, lime juice and salt, and it is soo darn good, we also do tostinachos, basically the cheddar sauce on tostitos with some corn and fresh cheese and jalapeños on vinegar

These were actually pretty accuratem the last one though was more similar to atole than champurrado but it works, champurrado is actually hot cocoa or hot chocolate mixed with white atole. You should try tejate its a cold drink soooo refreshing!
