It's because there's a shared group of olfactory-receptor genes that cause cilantro to taste like soap to a portion of the population.
I never knew that! I'm clearly of the @Darkflame2307 club, because I love the stuff. I'm soooo glad I'm not of the club that thinks it's soapy. (On a side note: did those people eat soap to be able to claim that cilantro tastes like soap? Just wonderin'....)

I'm one of those people Randy Torres described, sorry lol. It's weird though because I can't do fresh coriander as it tastes like soap and some times dish washing liquid BUT, I can do ground/dry coriander or coriander seeds. I'd really like to experience what fresh coriander actually tastes like though lol.

Out of all the dishes, the com tam and che are the main street foods you'll see in southern Vietnam. The reason is because everything is already made and can be served quickly. The others take time to make and you normally see them in restaurants instead

I'm Vietnamese, was born and raised in Vietnam, but still can not eat fish sauce. I can't stand the smell of it either. Shame on me! But yeah Viet street food is absolutely wonderful, I wonder how will they react if they try waffle sticky rice, grilled bananas, etc
I can't stand any kind of salty sauce taste. I usually eat everything plain or how it comes, but I won't add any more salt to it.
I don't like the smell or the fact it is too salty..
However if you add enough lime/lemon, chili, carrots and some water..
it is a bit better.
Tastes good with certain things more than others though.
I guess that's fine and all. I was born in America and I love the smell of Durian, though people hate it, I don't understand why! Fish sauce smells pretty gross, but the taste is SO worth it!

For banh Xeo, my family would eat it like a wrap almost so we would surround a piece of the Banh Zeo in lettuce then dip it in the fish sauce. very yummy :D
I live in a different country now, so I have to learn how to make these myself. Turns out they're not difficult to make, but they just require a lot of effort. There are many steps in preparation but the cooking is easy.

The fish sauce is that "tasty" because it's been mixed with other ingredients like sugar, lemon or vinegar, water (to make it taste less "thick"), believe me when you hold the pure fish sauce, the fact "drink it" will never survive.

Yes, there are foods that have pork but the main kind of meat in Vietnamese diet is seafood based such as shrimp like in the spring rolls. But some foods soups do contain blood which I do believe is not allowed for consumption.

Somehow I don't like the guy in purple on the left (the American guy, not the guy in baseball cap). He keeps giving negative comments about cilantro and the hardness of the rice. It's cơm tấm (broken rice) and it's not supposed to be soft like cơm nếp (sweet sticky rice). By the way, I don't like cilantro. But I just don't like the way he comments it.

they're just some typical "street" food and we have them as main dishes and meals cuz if u really want to taste our actual street food, ur mind gonna blown away cuz there're thousand of them
