People use it incorrectly and then blame the brand. I use Olaplex on myself and clients AS NEEDED! They're not meant to be used every week like regular products. Also, folks don't buy them from reputable places so they may be getting dupes that look like the real thing and they're not.

@curlyxvoun2605 It's gonna depend on your hair and what state it's in. It's a bond repair system so it's made mainly for color/chemical processed hair or hair that may need an extra boost of strengthening. Using it too much on healthy hair can do the opposite. I mainly use it when I touch up my color and then in between like once a month. I use other natural hair products for the majority of my regimen.

Olaplex is a treatment. Use it once per month maximum. I've used this product for 2.5 years. I treat my hair every 8 weeks. My hair has grown 8 inches and my hair is healthier and thicker.
I use another brand of hair care products for my weekly shampoos conditioners serum and oils.

No. 0 is applied for 15 mins before applying No. 3. and leave on for 15 mins. Then rinse .......NO.0 AND NO. 3 GO TOGETHER.
Shampoo with No. 4 and rinse then condition with No. 5.
YOU ONLY USE NO. 0 AND NO. 3 TOGETHER EVERY 4 WEEKS AS A TREATMENT/BOND BUILDER.
NO.3 IS NOT A PRE-POO OR A CONDITIONER. IT IS A BOND BUILDER.

      Sorry Will.......
I consulted my hair stylist relatives and Chemistry relatives before using this product on my hair years ago.
3 can't bond without 0. The chemicals in 0 need the chemicals in 3 to form the complete strengthening bond. This bond is water soluble and washes off the hair with every shampoo.
Also 1 and 2 are professional use only. 0 and 3 are the at home and less strong versions of 1 and 2.

This might seem confusing but a protein treatment and bond builder are not the same.
The general idea is that K18 and Olaplex are bond builders, meaning they both work at a molecular level inside the hair to repair damage. The only difference is the active ingredient used and how that ingredient works at repairing bonds. For example, K18’s active ingredient is a peptide (k18peptide). It not only repairs broken bonds but also broken keratin chains, making it more effective than olaplex by comparison.
Basically, they serve similar functions but go about it in different ways. Some better than others but at the end of it, it’s always about what works best for the user.
Sorry if this was too long winded I just really like learning about hair care and skincare 😅

    • @CrimsonStigmata
      @CrimsonStigmata Рік тому +18

I use both but I do agree that I see instant or faster results with the k18 hair mask. Olaplex products that you use at home are less potent than the one at the salon so that make sense.

Olaplex is like a protein treatment. My hairdresser uses Olaplex No. 3 on me when I get a relaxer touch up once every 11 weeks, and I use it once between touchups. With the addition of Kerastase products, my hair has grown like crazy.
Either the plaintiffs in the lawsuit are misusing the product or they just happen to have a bad reaction to it.

Thanks for the Video Will! Just a heads up that Olaplex is not a protein treatment but rather a bond builder- their patented ingredient (Bis-aminopropyl Dyglycol Dimaleate) repairs the disulfide bonds in your hair. Disulfide bonds are the bonds that give your hair structure, strength and stability. These bonds break in the process of chemical treatments like hair colouring, relaxer and from mechanical damage(like combing etc). So Olaplex repairs damaged hair by repairing these bonds in the hair not by adding protein. Hope it’s working for you!

Lean your head forward so your hair hangs and come from the bottom up. Olaplex is so expensive I only apply the 0 and 3 to my ends every 3-4 weeks. But I recommended it to everyone! I seen some of the complaints on Facebook and I have to be honest the complaints are mostly made by white women because they are not using the Olaplex number 3 correctly. Number 3 is not meant to be used every wash. Number 3 is a bond treatment. Use it like you would use a protein treatment every 3 weeks to one month. I use it every month and it works. Olaplex restored my damaged hair. AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO DO! I have blonde highlights, so the product works great. A little goes a LONG way. One bottle of no 3 can last you months on end if applied correctly.
The mask (no 8.) is better than the conditioner and leave in, BUT it is VERY intense. You don't need much.

Unfortunately, I cannot use Olaplex again. Made my hair break off and fall out and I used it in time with the directions and sequence, so I had to stop using. BUT, I went back to my normal routine and my hair came back to life.

I've been using Olaplex No. 0 and 3 for a few years. They are the only Olaplex products I use but they help keep my coils healthy. Originally I used them weekly. Currently, I use them once a month. Olaplex and protein are not the same since Olaplex repairs bonds within the hair strand and protein treatments fill in gaps on the surface of the strand. Both can be used but not simultaneously.

I didn’t like K18. Olaplex is not a protein treatment, it’s a conditioning bond treatment. It works well. I recommend Curlsmith Bond Salve, it’s the best. And you get way more product for the same price.

So the key for olaplex is that you still need to use a moisturizing mask with this line… it bonds but does not provide enough moisture for most black people. The first year I used it and had to cut some hair but I was going through stuff so that didn’t help. Once I started using it with moisture masks and switching up on using other shampoos periodically it worked well. I personally like 2 and 5 and periodically use 4 and I don’t use the leave in anymore.
