HBO’s The Sopranos follows the life of New Jersey mob boss Tony Soprano and all the colourful characters his life is surrounded by, like his wife and two children, his protegee Christopher Moltisanti, and his mob underlings like Silvio, Paulie and Furio.
When Paulie is running information to New York through Johnny Sack, he also tells him about the joke that Ralph Cifaretto made about his wifee. But why did John not tell Tony Soprano, who was his close associate?
Paulie “Walnuts” Gualtieri is a solider in the DiMeo family, later becoming a captain and eventually the underboss of the family. An interesting figure, Paulie is a highly paranoid germaphobe who’s petty, jealous and competitive behaviour often put him and others in trouble.

I think that ultimately, Johnny didn't rat out Paulie because he knew that for Paulie, it would have felt like being stabbed in the heart.
I mean . . . . how much more betrayal could he take?
Are you forreal? Lol Johnny sac didn't give a damn about paulies heart, yall are so out of touch with who these characters were at heart.
he didn't give a fuck. I hope you're being sarcastic. not outting paulie means he had a pawn and an obvious replacement if Tony was took out. effectively it would have been a complete take over on Jersey to keep paulie in place, milk the info and when the time was right push him into place as boss.
@@DeadSezSo He’s teasing a quote made by Paulie.
Yeah? Maybe he is a flambe
Paulie is his inside man why would he give that up for free?
Paulie leaking information like that is invaluable to Johnny. It made him money. Makes perfect sense not to give him up.

The look of sheer terror on Paulie’s face when he figured out Johnny was playing him!!! It’s like he knew Tony was going to find out.
I'd say that his reaction it more furious anger. He stars at Carmine with pure hatred which is really directed at Johnny Sac but as he's not there he isn't able to do anything. It seems like he's trying not to completely lose his temper and does all he can to hold it in rather than fear.
Yeah Paulie did turn white as a ghost when Carmine didn't recognize him he knew then Johnny Sac had played him like a fiddle...

In the end, it's because all the benefits of not snitching outweighed the benefits of snitching. One angle you missed is that, Johnny strategically decided that Paulie made the Soprano family weaker. Why tell your competitors in the yacht race that there boat has a hole in the side? Better to keep winning edges like that to yourself.

Tony then peers through the looking glass and sees himself shooting Paulie.
Paulie also shows up in a "blink and you miss it" moment as part of the mob that threatens Tony during his dream sequence in the episode "The Test Dream" directly after Annet Benning declares the line " There's something bugsy about him".
Paulie was also sitting in the only red chair during the sit down with NY at the end of the show and shook butchies hand behind tony back.
Paulie also had the cat that looks at rats stare him down in his final scene in the show.
It's all there.
In Blue Comet, Paulie shows up to Satriales with a box of barber scissors. This is after an earlier scene where Butchie and his guys are meeting in a barber shop, assumed to be Butchie's shop to some degree.
Patsy and Paulie meeting with the cousins from Italy was so secretive that they had to talk about it in the bathroom (at the Bing). Paulie tells Patsy "it's all yours" before they flush at the urinals. Patsy doesn't look like he is just ordering a hit on Phil, he looks like he is taking on a much bigger responsibility.
It looks like Patsy and Paulie conspired with New York to take out Tony. Patsy has a pretty good reason to conspire against his boss considering he killed his twin brother. And most of the family was losing faith in Tony anyway. He had no real allies left in that last episode.
@@malcador wasn't patsy getting shot by butch when they shot Silvio?

@@malcador I’ve been saying it for a long time now n everyone says I’m crazy but that’s gotta be what happened
Paulie was Johnny Sac's pipeline into what Tony's crew was doing. That info could be used two ways: First, he could impress Carmine with his inside information. Second, he could use it as leverage against Tony when he became boss of New York. In some ways Paulie was a more valuable asset to NY than his own crew.
Very true....
He also went to Tony before saying anything to Carmine to give Tony a chance to cut a deal rather than being found out. This would strengthen his relationship with Tony which is a big favour, unfortunately Tony didn't see it this way at all so Johnny instead uses the information to strengthen his relationship with Carmine, demonstrating how useful he is even though he would rather have used the situation to get closer to the Boss of another family.
No not in some ways … in every way.
That is exactly the situation accurately and astutely assessed.
I cant belive how everybody in comment section is totally wrong. Johm didnt do that because he was a man of principle. He cared about people, and rules, not money. It was showed in the serious way to many times with Ginny, Joey Peeps, his brother in law, even Tony one time and even Paulie.
Sack was great playing people against each other. Tells paulie carmine loves him. Carmine doesnt even know him. Then tells ralph that carmine doesnt know who he is when ralph asks to switch families but in reality carmine knows exactly who he is and knows how valuable he is to the esplanade
Also tells Ralph that tony was eager to hear his apology and talk about him refusing the drink
Carmine Sr knew very well who Ralph Cifaretto was. He would have traded "Coco" Cogliano and Dominic "Fat Dom" Gamiello for a guy like Ralph.. Carmine Sr didn't care much for Paulie Walnuts though, as he barely knew him, and only saw him as Jersey/DeMeo muscles.
John wasn’t aware that Paulie discovered his ruse. As far as he knew at the time Paulie was still an assert that he could potentially squeeze more valuable info from. Secondly, he might’ve thought giving Paulie up would be an affront to his dignity. He still probably views himself as an honourable person within the construct of the mafia.
Yeah it's almost the same as being a rat.
You articulated that perfectly... I honestly think it was more about honor. There's only so much info he could have squeezed out of him anyhow
He's a pragmatist
Exactly that moment when he thinks about his wants for Ralph but realizes he’s not going to rat, and probably agrees with the joke as he gets upset when he catches his wife sneaking food like she doesn’t realize what she causes by being overweight, but the fact that he even reacted that way was out of the same mafia code that says a man’s wife is off limits , but he sees his problems as insignificant compared with the code of the mob and his financial opportunities and realizes the consequences are not worth the hassle and if Paulie is discovered he has deniability as long as he doesn’t say who told him. Because of his position it wouldn’t be an issue, he’s a pragmatist who wants to make money
Though Johnny never exhibited quite the level of sociopathy as Tony, he totally played Paulie several times.
He played him good😂😂😂 carmine ask about him

And Ralph.
Uhh he killed and robbed an elderly woman to have money to give tony to curry favor with him.
Of course Paulie was scared John would rat him out. Which is why as soon as Paulie figured it out he started pushing the idea that he always hated John and he can't be trusted. So that way if he did out him he could argue its because he doesn't like John and has been pushing for Tony to take action against him. Now I doubt Tony would beleive it but these guys aren't great liars. Tony's lies never convince Carmella. They're always really lame.

Satanic black magic, sick shi t!
Interesting theory. I always had a different take. When they were negotiating the hit on Ralph and Tony offered to give Ralph up if Johnny named the person who was talking out of turn Carmine and Johnny exchanged a look. I always saw that as Carmine subtly telling Johnny 'don't do it. we need to keep our mole in place for further intel'. I didn't think Carmine was giving Johnny the OK to give up their info source. As for why he never told...maybe he planned on possibly using it to blackmail Paulie at a later date?

It’s a strategic move. If he tell tony about paulie he will strengthen tony position. He doesn’t want that. I think eventually he wants to control new jersey but if tony kill paulie new jersey will more afraid of tony and he kept them in control. By letting paulie away, johnny make sure that new jersey have weaknesses.
💯
I feel like Tony also knows this and completely understands that kind of strategy. It almost goes without saying
Ho! Furio ovah here at the comments
False outrage over the joke is also plausible. He wanted Carmine not to rule in his favour. He authorised an unsanctioned hit on Ralph, undermining Carmine
True that. Also by having the threat of an inside snitch, Tony too busy looking for said snitch to optimally make defensive or offensive moves.
Great analysis. To add my few cents, I always thought that Johnny made a huge deal out of Ralph's joke, because he knew very well, that Jersey guys were making fun of his wife. It was not so much about Ralph's joke, but about sending a very strong message to Everybody.
That legendary moment when he Almost entered when they were making tones of jokes - there is No way he would not have heard or realized what it was about. Even the slightly hostile remarks he said immediately: "Is that all you deadbeats do, talking about cus?" and "It's right there in front of you, you f*cking illiteates, turn it up!" It was quite disrespectful, walking into a room of highly-ranked made Jersey guys and commenting like that, with them playing it like if they had just been caught.
His last comment to Tony was "No more weight remarks Tony, they are hurtful and they are destructive." That was not just about one single Ralph's joke, he was very clearly referring to "You guys stop making fun of my wife, next time, you'll know what you are risking!"
Johnny Sack was one of my favorite characters in the show, he seemed like the most authentic to me.
Sack elevated this show to another level, as entire NY top guys did. Fabulous .

Well, if beaks could kill, that one certainly would.

Johnny never ratted. The only time he gave anyone up, it was himself. He admitted to his own crimes, but didn't implicate anyone else. Johnny Sack and Silvio were the only truly honorable characters on the show.

reality is if johnny as carmine's underboss gave up paulie it show to carmine that if he was willing to rat out paulie that he could possibly talk to the police if he was ever nipped, it was a dangerous slope not worth going down for johnny basically
I think Johnny was also smart enough to know that if he revealed it was Paulie who told him, it would also reveal how easily Johnny would give up secrets and probably couldn't be trusted to keep his mouth shut if the screws were put to him by the gov't.
I think the real reason is because there was a contingency plan to place Paulie as the new boss if the relationship between the sopranos and new York were to sour even more, and why would Paulie be the one too replace Tony ? well its for all the reasons you mentioned in this video and more, Paulie is loyal to new York and has a healthy fear of the five families and isn't interested or ambitious enough to solidify the NJ faction as anything other than a glorified crew, placing Paulie at the helm would give new York a stronger grip over their operations
That makes sense in regards to the finale too, there’s always been that lingering look of shame and sadness on Paulie’s face after the truce, like he knew Tony just signed his own death warrant by getting Phil too, and that he’ll be expected to kick up. I think Paulie being so connected to both families and taking the “thing of theirs” so serious puts him at an advantage of experience and knowledge, he knew it was common sense that they weren’t just going to off Phil with no retribution for everything that happened. Also makes sense why Paulie kept trying to turn down being the Cappo of the waste management crew. Not only is the position cursed, but as this time he knew they were squeezed in tight against NY and couldn’t take any generosity from Tony knowing what was probably about to happen and that he’d be staying Neutral after
As much as I love deep diving into Soprano’s theories and lore I always just kinda took this storyline for what it was presented as. Johnny is shown to love his wife and be very old school, respectable gentleman gangster type. Also he sees Jersey as barely a branch in the gigantic New York crime family tree. I think him and Paulie are about the same age, and Paulie’s always had a feeling he was more important than he is. I could see years of him and Johnny making small talk where Paulie takes it to heart and thinks he’s making a friend and John almost pities him for it. You could see it meant the world to Paulie that John, someone pretty big time in NY, took the time to call him when he was in the can where Tony and the boys didn’t.
I also think it just comes down to a petty jealousy. Paulie wants a painting of Tony in his house, he clearly idolizes him quite a bit, and seeing Ralph being the golden boy earner who acts like his shit doesn’t stink would rub Paulie wrong immediately. So when Ralph is doing something as disrespectful as saying John’s wife is fat, knowing what Ginny means to him, he takes it upon himself to repay not only John’s faux friendship but make some trouble for Ralph who Tony has been sticking his neck out for and who’s been towering above the rest with his kickings. Do I think Paulie did it with the intention of Johnny wanting to kill him? Probably not, but maybe enough to let John know who’s saying what and where loyalties lie- maybe make a show of it and have Ralph demoted or shipped off.
As for Johnny not giving him up, like everyone thinks yes it’s good to have someone on the inside and ratting Paulie out would make him look untrustworthy but I honestly kind of think John appreciated Paulie being the only one to tell him something about Ginny. I think she’s his weakness, and if Paulie just came shit talking he wouldn’t have cared, but Paulie is giving John the inside knowledge of not only some of the family affairs but letting him know not yo be buddy buddy with Ralph; it would make him look like an idiot to Jersey, and that his wife is being disrespected and John wants to know to protect her and his image. I think that’s why he ultimately calls off the hit too, is that after being prepared to basically go to war for her honor he sees she hasn’t been making any positive changes to her weight so he can’t even be upset that they’re making fun of someone struggling to get better; but still why he says to Tony “no more weight remarks”
Charles Schuab ova here
jersey were not just a branch in the NY familly they made tons of money and that world money matters more than bodies
Jersey was just a branch in the NY tree. Yes they made lots of money but perception wise despite all that, New York says it time and again in this series what they actually think of them in Jersey. Do they respect Jersey to some degree? Yes. But you don’t show up as fat Dom did and talk that much shot if you think all that highly of these guys. That’s just one example
Well done
There's no way Johnny was only pretending to want Ralph dead. His demeanor completely changed when he saw his wife cheating on her diet, which led to him changing his mind, and that was a completely unplanned incident.
There is a chance he used the joke to his advantage. To beef with Carmine and to weaken New Jersey, which is that happened by his actions
It's important to remember that Ralph and the hitman were standing next to each other when the thing was called off. At that moment Ralph was seconds from death.
Johnny could have been holding onto the info about Paulie for a big moment later on that never came. Giving up an informant (even if it's only an informant informing to another family instead of to law enforcement) would be a huge bargaining chip.
Also, I don't think Johnny made a show about wanting to kill Ralphie. He says they can get someone else to run the Esplinade in Ralph's place.

You forgot to bring up. Ralph figured out in seconds it was Paulie that told Johnny Sac about the joke and thus made the prank call to Paulie's mother at the retirement home pretending he was a cop. If Ralph figured it out, why couldn't Tony? .. At that time at least, because years later when he took Paulie on that boat ride in FL, he knew it was him to told him the Ginny Sac joke, even scared the shit out of him, but didn't wack him over it.
Ya at the end tony knew but he couldn't bring himself to wack Paulie most likely because of Tony's childhood memories of Paulie
Ralph was a pretty intelligent guy... same for Tony. They both knew but didn't have actual proof.

1. Paulie provided cheap inside information. Johnny Sack wanted to keep that line of info open as long as possible.
2. Johnny Sack and Paulie Walnuts were 2 different kinds of mobsters. Johnny killed people, but Paulie was a murdering maniac. A phone call from Johnny wouldnt move as fast as a bullet from Paulie. Fear was definitely a factor.
3. Johnny Sack was a loyal guy to those that were loyal to him. Carmine was the boss and undermined Johnny a lot, which made Johnny look weak, which caused his loyalty to sway. But Paulie always paid Johnny the respect he was due, and wanted to be back in New York, so Johnny was always on the good end of their friendship.
Too much over thinking it. Johnny doesn't reveal his source because he's a stand up guy. Word gets out that somebody confided in him and he betrayed that confidence and people will think twice about giving him information that could come back on them.
Becasue he ain't a fucking rat.
Didn't they get an entire new income stream from the Zelman thing after Paulie blabbed? Why land him in hot water when you can make scharole from him?

You did bring up an interesting fact. Johnny Sack never cheated & his wife was morbidly obese. But everybody laughed at Bobby Bacala for not cheating & his wife was regularly going to the gym before she died 🤔. If Johnny Sack wasn't an under-boss & just a regular guy, do u think he would've took Bobby's place as the butt of their jokes??..
Yes! There’s an episode that sorta references that sort of idea in a different context. I believe Tony Soprano is talking to his therapist or someone else about power dynamics and respect and such. Basically if someone else comes in and makes a joke, and they’re not powerful or scary they don’t laugh. However when Tony says the same stuff everyone busts out laughing except Feech LaManna I believe? It’s in a latter episode my apologies for messing up with names and descriptions
Johnny never forgot when Paulie looked after Ginni when he was in the can one time. Kept her in Butter Brickle and Devil dogs!
Johnny didn’t want to lose his inside stool pigeon that’s why he protected him
I love that deleted scene where Paulie buys Tony the 2 for 1 beer because it on sale, just proving how sneaky Paulie is.... hilarious
I think it was smart of Johnny Sac to not give up Paulie, or at least keep the info in his back pocket. There are PLENTY of ways to get on Tony's good side but it's definitely NOT easy to get inside information on the happenings of the Soprano Family!
Think, Johnny ONLY got the inside info from Paulie because, being pissy that his family wrote him off while he was in jail, Paulie went out of HIS way to reach out to Johnny and start spilling the beans. Approaching a member of Tony's crew and offering cash or favor with Carmine in exchange for inside information is absolutely out of the question for Johnny. If the person Johnny approaches acts interested but then runs to Tony to tell him what Johnny is up to, Tony could retaliate by giving Johnny dis-information, end his relationship with Johnny all together, or even kill him!
All in all, it was more valuable to Johnny Sac to NOT give up Paulie at the particular moment, in my opinion. Even waiting for a more strategic time to offer Tony the "snitch" in his crew could benefit Johnny more than leveraging his source just to kill Ralphie over a joke
About Carmine not recognising Paulie, remember they are Cosa Nostra.
The rules say that you don’t recognise anyone who introduces themselves. You have never heard of them, never heard of the mob, have no idea what they are talking about and they should get lost.
The only time you recognise another made guy is when someone who knows you both introduces the two of you as being a friend of ours.
BINGO and Paulie Knows that better than anybody or he should have known that , He's lucky he didn't get disappeared leaving that event
That's only if they aren't made and haven't been formally introduced
Not true at all made members speak too each other it’s a sign of disrespect if they don’t
Johnny didn't want to rain the shit storm to the family at that moment. He was waiting for the right time 😃
The real question if Paulie is willing to murder an innocent, old lady for her life savings why didn't he whack Johnny to save his own skin?
i think there's less repercussions of murdering an elderly lady and murdering a made guy
Great analysis. A runner through the entire series is how old school traditions clash with the modern day’s mores and values.
Simple short answer. Wiseguys ain't supposed to snitch!
Paulie had a good crack at the other Ginny Sac roast lol
Paulie’s expression in the thumbnail is just…gold
There may be a reason why Carmine didn't acknowledge Paulie. Carmine may have seen Paulie over the years but as protocol, if two made guys from different families meet they're not supposed to start acknowledging each other without a credible third party introducing each other as friends of their thing. Plus Carmine is a boss. Paulie came at him with no warning or anything. Carmine has no idea if Paulie is wearing a wire or not.
Johnny had no reason to burn that bridge. He didn't know Paulie had wised up and wouldn't be feeding him any more info. There was no reason for him to reveal it and risk losing that valuable mole in the Sopranos family.
Here's one for you. Paulie talking to Johnny is what saved his life in the end. Phil basically said Paulie was off limits. Phil would've known and probably agreed with what Paulie did. The money they got in the information exchanges helped.
Yeah I noticed that when they said his name at the meeting
Simple, you never disclose your opinion opponents’ weaknesses.
Even if the problem areas are fixed, you’d be disclosing your strategy/methodology, and giving your opponent insight into how you’re attempting to neutralize them.
I agree that Johnny didn’t want to snitch him because he liked Paulie. Yeah, he played him but that didn’t mean that he disliked him. Besides, out of all the psychos in this show, Johnny always had the most integrity.
By not giving up Paulie, Johnny makes Tony suspicious of his crew and that keeps Tony off-balance and so JS has power over Tony. Johnny also looks like he has so much power that he gets info like this from another crew.
Paulie and Carmine never have been officially introduced to each other by a third party. Paulie violated the mob codex.
I figured Crmine knew who Pauly was but kept a low profile in case there was anybody listening.
Tony was right telling Ralph DO NOT apologize, johnny was baiting an apology
Watching the Sopranos again for the umpteenth time.........it gets better every time these characters are irresistible 🔥👍
Johnny's pragmatism is most likely the reason he would refuse to give up Paulie for Ralph. But his anger when he first heard the joke probably was real and he made a rash decision that got back to Jersey and had to keep going with it and find a way to back out of the mess without burning his source and causing Tony's paranoia from making it that much harder to find a new info source in the future.
His anger was definitely very real !
Johnny Sack didn't know for sure that Ralphy is dead... remember please with the sorpnos the viewers know far more than any of the actors in the show. And overall Johnny Sack reall issue is that Paulie might have tried to kill him.
If he had given paulie up, he would have cut his fangs off, he would never be able to get another 1 to fall into his trap and secondly, nobody likes a snitch even though he's giving up a fool... There's a lot of character assassination in it..
Having a crappy day and a new Cineranter video brightens me up 🙏
I just don’t understand how Carmine didn’t know who Paulie was??? Don’t both of them go way back.. not like Paulie was a nobody in the Jersey crew.. he was pretty much like the 3rd guy in command ffs
Pretty common sense answer they both woulda been taken out obviously.
Tony kinda figured I think. There was that whole scene on the boat when he asked him about it. Pauly was all nervous and tony was hella annoyed with him
Even though it’s not proven I always believed Paulie was the one who sold out Tony’s location at the end of the series.
You mean the very end? Unlikely. I don't recall Tony disclosing that to Paulie. An alpha move like that was beyond Paulie. He had just been promoted by Tony and if it fell through, he wouldn't be so lucky as with John and he knew it. He was a scaredy cat.
The money is on Patsy Parisi. Patsy has a grudge with Tony and was a smart guy, unlike Paulie. If I was going to dig a hole in the Pine Barrens, it would be his.
My money was on Butchie calling the hit on Tony. If that actually ended up being happening.
Carmine not recognising Paulie was an oversight in the writing! Unless Carmine has Alzheimer’s, he surely would remember meeting Paulie at Chris’s being “made” celebration in season 3. The Sopranos family isn’t big..as it is. Carmine would know the capos of that family..there’s only around 5 at any one time!
Johnny killing Ralphie also seemed unrealistic. He would have gone against an explicit ruling made by Carmine who asked him to either drop the issue completely or accept a pay off. But this story was used as the Catalyst for the reason Johnny decided to put out a hit on Carmine later in the season.
I'm pretty sure Carmine was pretending. Firstly Carmine saw Jersey as a glorified crew. He might've known Paulie but he wasn't gonna talk to a Jersey goon at dinner as a NY boss
@@villiannewyork Regardless of how he saw the Jersey Crew..he wouldn’t of acted as surprised as he was when Paulie introduced himself…it was weak script writing. It was the same weak writing that suddenly turned Carmine’s behaviour on the golf course when Carmine Jnr got offended by “Tony being my son”….Carmine’s over exaggeration didn’t match the scene. I like Sopranos..but at times the scrip in relation to charters was all over the place! Watch also series 2 with Jackie Jnr is on a high level meet regarding waste management .
OK. Thank you you hit the nail on the head. Johnny Sack is treacherous. But he’s not a snitch. Good job
Could’ve also been a way for Johnny to have a passive control of Paulie too, maybe blackmailing Paulie in the future to do something in exchange for him not telling Tony
rip Tonny Sirico
It would make Johnny look like a rat and lose his "inside man". Johnny didn't care who ran the Esplanade. He told Tony to put Eugene Pontacorvo in there if Ralphie disappeared. But yes, I agree that Johnny Sacrimoni would damage his image by pointing fingers just to get a sanctioned hit on Ralph over a fat joke. He would never be backed by the Lupertazzi family Capos to one day become boss since he couldn't be trusted to keep private conversations private.
This is why in real life the Gambino members with pull began to hate Gotti. He would talk shit on members he felt were loved and respected more than him. Sammy said after hearing the wire tapes of John berating him after everything he did for John, it was a major reason he flipped.
I don't think Paulie ever seriously thought he'd be the boss, I think it's for the exact opposite reason that he felt underappreciated and knew he wouldn't rise higher in the soprano organization. Inside information is also way too valuable to give up for a litte improvement with his relationship with Tony.
If he gives up Paulie it looks like hes meddling in Tonys family and makes him a target/sours relations with Tony
It gives up an "asset" of information he has
"Well that's... deplorable."
Johnny needed a Mole, after Jenni had the 90 pounder removed.
The joke was a device to bring the underhanded dynamics between the mobsters into the foreground. Giving up Paulie would be an admission of John's deceitful practices and compromise his status vis a vis him and Tony. Remember, there was little genuine respect between New York and Jersey - the former always feeling like they were dealing with subordinates, albeit useful subordinates who merited displays of respect for pragmatic reasons.
I believe the real reason has to do with real life.
In real life, the actors behind the Paulie and Johnny characters, Tony Sirico and Vincent Curatola, are very, and I mean VERY good friends, almost like brothers.
Tony Sirico (Paulie) was an actual mobster on his youth, he even did prison time.
And Vincent (Johnny Sack) loves Tony, as I've said, like a brother, and it's mutual, in the end I believe it has to do with respect and camaraderie.
Screenplay writers are not allowed to mess with real life relationships, especially when it comes down to this kind of real life characters, it's not good for business and it's not good for the environment on the set, at all.
Vincent possibly wouldn't have any problem to portray a rat that happens to be an underboss, but Tony would have never allowed that to happen, because of that special bond.
There is a name to take care of outside the bright lights, a reputation, a cool actor and a cool mobster turned into actor are friends and nobody should mess with that, not even HBO.
That's it.

Just in case you have time, an interview with this Johnny Sack himself, it's great: ua-cam.com/video/9kOGvPyyzJ8/v-deo.html
Jonny Sac had nothing to gain by telling Tony it was Paulie who told him. Further, Ginny took the wind out of Jonny’s sails when he caught her inhaling candy bars on the basement floor the moment he’d left the house. Until then, she’d been beyond reproach in his eyes. Her deception was her downfall, and I think thereafter, Jonny felt the insulting joke wasn’t important enough to impact business.
Another great video, cheers mate.
Because then he loses a contact that leaks info to him, pretty cut and dry
you are great with these videos !!!!!
Interesting video! I think it was because John had too much to lose if everyone knew him as a rat and someone who can’t be trusted. Johnny’s motivations and the subtle nuances of characters like him in this show (carmine jr., adrianna, Carmela) are what make sopranos so special.
he promised Paulie he wouldnt. Paulie would be considered a rat. Eventhough Tony knew about it he just wasnt sure who ratted Ralph out. He was concerned about that mostly.
"ell-oyse"
I love these videos it’s like a revamp of interest for my favorites series
“I don’t stick my beak in...”
Rip Paulie 🙏🏼
Another reason to not give up Paulie: Plot armour of a fan favourite character/actor, everyone loves paulie.
It's the principle, in my day a mans word would be enough to get him delivered up on a silver plater! Hell, we break more rules than the Catholic Church!
But who is he, the pope now?
The many saints of newark has thrown so many of this out of wack for me, i cant make up my mind as to whether or not i like it
There were a LOT of loose ends in the story. If it was my business (and a legal, legitimate one) I would still seek out who leaked the information to the competition.
I think he didn’t to keep his future options open as he saw a weak leak into a family. As long as you have access to the truth on someone you don’t need to know them on any certain level. That just smart. People do that all the time.
Paulie liked to complain and yammer away to Johnny. His information was gold.
