She was at the hands of fate, much like maybe even her mother who had a penchant for staying silent and putting up with abuse.
Performance Art at it's best... As we move more toward the digitized world, we will crave more REAL. When I watched Ren busking on the streets with open heart and soul at only 15, I knew there would be no doubt of his future.
Thank you Freya..You are now truly through the doorway and have been properly introduced to the bard. ❤ I feel both this and Hi Ren are essential, as they will no doubt be considered must-hear classics in the future...but then again, so are the next dozen or so in the lineup. Ha!! You will be getting a wide range of recommendations and usually, suggestions will include the live tracks "Chalk Outlines" and "How To Be Me," with Chinchilla!! I heartily encourage you to check out both...as you will be impressed with the vocals...but they do continue with serious themes. For a lighter/happier view of the many other sides of Ren...don't miss the live retake "Back On 74/Message In a Bottle" or maybe his earlier cover tracks with his former band The Big Push..."Bongo Bong" and/or "An Englishman In New York".....OR any of his live "busking" vids with the Big Push, Sam Tompkins, or Chinchilla....these all tap into the joy that Ren consistently shares.... ✌
Great reaction Freya. Although the tales were about London life, the filming was actually in Brighton. The locations used were the North Laine and the Lanes areas of Brighton. These are very familiar places for Ren and the equally brilliant videographer Samuel Perry-Falvey.

Finally someone addresses the socks! I’ve been waiting for that. 😂 Yes, walking around in a cellar and also outside a couple of times will do that to your socks. Well spotted!❤
The socks catched my mind the very first time I watched the Tales back in the days. Not in the bed scene, but later when I realised in the final scenes he was only in socks for the whole time😄
The only post production that Ren used in this and Hi Ren was some volume automation on his vocals to allow for the volume variance if he was facing the the lapel mic or away from it, to even out the volume.. This is a story of multigenerational domestic violence, its like a Shakespearian tragedy. have a listen to 'Back on 74/Message in a bottle' to hear Ren's singing voice
Jup. Die Tale von Jenny und Screetch ist wirklich harter Tobak. Ich sag jetzt mal hier willkommen im Ren-Rabbithole. :) Muss mir die Reaction zu Hi Ren noch anschauen.
Excellent reaction! If you would like to see Ren’s wonderful vocal range I would suggest “Back on 74 / Message in a Bottle” - also a really fun performance.
Can’t recommend this video enough. Make sure you watch the one where Ren is wearing red suspenders! This version of I shot the sheriff will blow you away!
Comparing Ren to Elon Musk genuinely made me laugh out loud. Not for any other reason than... well you'll understand when you get to the Money Game Trilogy! Excellent reaction. Really appreciate your musical insight.
I literally could not think of a worse, more diametrically-opposed comparison. Elon Musk is a far-right-wing profiteering billionaire with no real talent of his own who is currently attempting to personally steer the federal government through his limitless pocketbook. He cares so much about what people think of him that he uses his own sock puppet accounts on X to give him praise and support. If there is anything about these two that is similar, it's that they're both very insecure people, but Ren has channeled that into perfectionism in his art, while Musk has essentially co-opted one of the largest virtual spaces in order to flood it with Russian disinformation and bot accounts so that he might seem popular with anyone at all, including his many children who do not speak to him. Musk very much cares what people think about him. I can't even fathom the comparison.
Ren paints a story so raw and vivid in this trilogy. A true masterpiece ... but the scale of the tragedy made it hard to watch my 1st time. Thank you so much for sharing with genuine emotion :) More Ren please :)
Man, I wish I could remember who it was, but another reactor (maybe also a vocal coach?) called Ren's singing "perfectly imperfect". I think the somewhat uncontrolled wailing at the beginning of Screech's Tale maybe symbolizes instability? My favorite "happy" Ren song (still has some darkness in it but he's really been through the wringer) is Power. It's a produced song but not heavily so, and still has a very simple video that he's clearly enjoying himself making.
Love your reaction and composure for a tough story. I do appreciate your ability to cut through the weeds and acknowledge the genius of composition and talent. Kudos. Go to his busking videos with Sam and Chinchilla for some smiles....and also busking with his band The Big Push (Bongo Bongo and Englishman In New York are two fun ones). His singing will raise the eyebrows and fill the heart with rhythmic joy. I am subbed for more REN...and his collaborators! Thank you Freya!
Enjoyed your reactions to this and “Hi Ren”. May I suggest “Back on 74/Message in a Bottle” to be next for a joyful Ren song, welcome to the Ren rabbit hole. Thank you!
Really enjoy watching you as you are finding Ren. Ren is an amazing artist who has been dealt a miserable hand. He can perform almost any genre and he’s super intelligent and caring. Can’t wait to watch more with you. Subscribing in hopes for more Ren. :)
It’s my first time on your channel and I like your review and that you didn’t pause it 1 million times. You have to love and respect the rim and that he sheds light on topics that most people don’t touch. This is loosely based on a true story just about a relative that grew up in the system andone killed the other. But just to show the cycle of abuse and that it’s unfortunate, but it falls on the victim to break the chain of events so they can start healing.
Great reaction to the artist of our time. For happier stuff listen to “It’s alright” or “Uninvited” “What you want” Wishing you every success with growing the beautiful singing community. Peace and love from Australia
Ahiahiahohah (Ft. BIBI) from Demos 1 and It's Alright from the Freckled Angels album. (Do the Official Music video) I personally love his older stuff. His music/art is well rounded and does use auto tune and post production on some stuff which is brilliant when/how he does it. He doesn't use it to perfect his voice but uses it as a distortion tool. He is constantly surprising me and I have seen almost all of his stuff out there. (many many times) I've never been so enthralled by an artist in my life.
Ren is a genius, a fantastic performer, singer, actor, songwriter, composer, etc, etc he can do it all... These 3 videos are filled with so many small tidbits that you might have missed by seeing this for the first time: - the way he uses his words and sets the scene for example when he could've simply say that Screech stabbed Jenny, he does it in a much more poetic way (and continues to do it in other instances in the songs, like when the Police is coming for Screech "the shrill cry of justice like a Banshee in the night"), just the same when Jenny froze he says it in a fantastic manner that sets a scene in your head... The way he used the Guitar to knock on the door in Screech's tale, the frantic camera going around him while he stood still to show the state of mind Screech was in, how he used the phone in the middle of the song with pauses and all to wait for the call to connect... how he said the police was coming instead of just saying "the police are coming" is truly amazing, and how he said that Screech was going against the police without saying just the obvious words... how he alternates between characters and narrator, both in voice and acting (see how at the end of the call to the girlfriend he's panting, gasping for air as Screech and in the next second he's completely composed when he becomes the Narrator again, he even gets his posture to be more upright)... how he uses the guitar to fire the shots and the cameraman getting shot and falling to the floor... an amazing storyteller. - The way he tells that history repeats itself on Violet's tale, from being abused by her father to the cycle repeating with her boyfriend that ends up killing her... the way he knocks on the door and then shows how he picks her eyelids and opens them and he's right there face first on the camera, out of focus... how he again uses the guitar to simbolize the sounds of violence when Stevie hits Violet, like a crashing pilot! - The way he rewinds time at the start of Violet's Tale when he says "We must rewind time for Violet's Tale" and then he makes the rewind time sound with the guitar and then starts Violet's story... then after Violet gets beaten up he uses the guitar again, this time to un-rewind time and gets us back to the start of the song when you heard the sounds of the hospital machines, now we know why those sounds were there and how everything happened... it's pure genius!!! - And how he ends the story with the Twins "aligned side by side", they came into this world side by side and they left this world side by side, one street apart. - Also, it's inevitable to draw parallels between Jenny and Violet and Screech and Stevie (his father) and the grandfather... despite not knowing any of their relatives, Jenny was just like her mother, Violet was silent, didn't fight back when she was abused and ended up being killed... Jenny when confronted by Screech completely froze, like a statue, wasn't able to move, to say anything, to defend herself, just like her mother... Screech was violent and troubled and ended up a murderer just like his father... All very tragic!! - To tie it all up, the Tales from Jenny and Screech were recorded in 2019 and Violet's Tale is, because of that set in 2005 (two zero zero five), 14 years before because in Jenny's tale we are told that Screech was 14 years old! Cheers
❤❤❤BARDCORE❤❤❤ Such important social commentary on generational violence, and the way we keep failing vulnerable people in our society, as well as the children caught in the middle or left behind. Ren likes to play with Dissonant chords to create atmosphere. He thought the catholic church deeming certain chords officially evil was ridiculous, so def plays with them, lol. For sone lighter Ren: "Back on 74/Message in a bottle" mashup, "Uninvited," "It's Alright" (younger Ren), and many with his old band The Big Push like "Bongo Bong," "Englishman in New York," or "Praise You," (Fat Boy Slim cover), which are all 3 -part harmonies.
Thank you for the follow-up. I'd suggest a Big Push (Ren's old band) next. Wade in the water/A man's world. To see some vocal dexterity, on the streets of Brighton. 🎉
Ren has incredible vocals, capable of multiple voices, styles and tones and full of beautiful, subtle, vocal nuances. Keep down the rabit hole. You won't be disappointed. You WILL be surprised... constantly! :)
Yes. In addition to all the rest, I too couldn't help noticing those socks - on the bed! Probably more to do with my working in hospitals, and of course, this is not a hospital but a 'set'. And you're right, as we see at the end, Ren is in and out of the building/s and out into the streets, doing however many Live Takes, until he / they get the one they are happiest with. The Camerman; Samuel, is also awesome. Like many others, I've been fascinated by the reactions to this and have to say I haven't seen lot of negative feedback. Perhaps those who find it triggering just mostly click away. As a Therapist, I do think this Trilogy should come with a Trauma Trigger warning, particularly Violets Tale. He's so immersive in his storytelling, that it's hard to stop. You're along for the ride, up close and personal. He 'Ren-ders'! his audience as a 'Witnesses' rather than Viewers. The thing about Ren is that he's not just a massively creative multi-skilled artist, who is real and authentic, but also a powerful Social Commentator. He IS our Modern Bard. He points his spotlight at the social ills of our times. And it's not that these issus are new, but that we are so bombarded by negative input on social media, driven and so skewed by the algorithms, that increasingly people feel overwhelmed, helpless and switch off. Ren says; "No! Stop! Look here. These lives MATTER." Don't just murmur meaningless platitudes like; "Oh what a shame..." and then click away onto something more entertaining. We do KNOW how innocents like Jenny and Violet, and Screech too, get set onto pathways that lead them into becoming victims and/or perpetrators. His key question, left hanging, is obvious. "Why aren't we doing more to stop these tragedies?" As to whether this was a real story; Ren has said he was inspired [ saddened and disgusted ] to hear of a young street worker being killed by a young gang member and how quickly this story fell out of public view - lost in the relentless churn of the 24/7 News cycle. He later added Violet's Tale - which was fictional. However... having worked in the welfare sector, whilst there are many fantastic and very caring people working their 'behinds' off to help kids, the reality is, the sector also attracts predators. The Foster Care and Youth Supports/ Hostels sector is also vastly underfunded and often poorly managed. Kids DO fall out of these supports - through many holes in the 'safety net' and wind up on the streets. Sadly, It's entirely possible that a scenario like this might evolve, where siblings who don't know each other, encounter and come into conflict. Probably already has. And Yes. Ren does fun stuff as well and dark. You'll hear more of his singing voice too on: Bongo Bongo, Back On 74, and Englishman in New York, as a starter! Enjoy. 😊
Jennys tale was prompted by a newspaper story and people saying its such a shame then a few months later came Screeches tale then it was nearly 2 years later he released Violets tale tying it all together. Masterpiece.
Great reaction I recommend the deep songs of ren and they're all masterpieces and very different 1- how to be me(live version) 2- chalk outline (live version) Those 2 are just him and chinchilla singing very deep lyrics and since you are a vocalist These 2 will be great for you to react to 3- suicide 4- for joe 5- dominoes 6- depression 7- 7 sins 8- money game part 1,2,3 9- fred again mashup 10- sick boi ( talks about his health journey) These are all very unique and masterpieces and very different from anything you've ever heard Welcome to reniverse
The best real and rapper with emotions and most versatile and absolutely best storyteller is “NF” “How could you leave us” is amazing emotional gives back story to his life. “NF” is a must.
He does do a few happier songs but the majority of his stuff definitely leans more towards pain and the dark reality in life, the thing he seems to always do though is bring an element of hope to everything (much like the end of "Hi Ren") so as dark as he can get he always gives you hope and beauty before the end of the song usually. As a vocal coach like everyone else suggested already you should definitely check out "Back on 74/message in a bottle" which is another live song, also " Fred again mashup", and then whether you have time to react to them or not you need to see some of his live performance songs with Chinchilla, she's very much like him and has an amazing voice but is free spirited and will sing in unorthodox ways that would surprise you I'd imagine. Also check out Chinchilla's LIVE version of her song "Fingers" it's absolutely amazing!!
Oldie Renegade here.. new sub so I can enjoy being along for your ‘Rabbit Hole’ adventure! You’ll be amazed at ALL of his ‘genre-bending’ performances!!
Love your channel. You said "I don't want to stop" at your first look at the Screech video. I kind of want you to stop even more and talk about things you notice, then just rewind 5 seconds or so to not miss anything. A lot of the time it's difficult to remember all the thoughts for the end, so as someone who watches a lot of these reactions, I don't mind stopping at all. We've all heard the song, we're here to hear you talk about it! But fantastic reactions.
You want happy? May I recommend his _Love Music_ quadrilogy? I watched your _Hi Ren_ reaction, don't know how I missed subbing for you then, but I fixed that and subbed on this one. I enjoy your reactions and your technical knowledge, although you don't push it too far like some do, and spend as much time enjoying his music as you do analyzing it. Ren is a Force of Nature, and as a 64-year-old, 70s stoner hippie who grew up with some of the greatest music ever made, I have to say that I have completely come to believe that this young man is the greatest artist - as well as one of the greatest humans - of my time. Any RENegade will tell you that there is the you before experiencing Ren, and then there's the _better_ you afterward. Happiness and health to you my new RENegade sister 😊
Love Ren's music. He classifies his art as 'bardcore'. Another great story would be 'Money Games". It comes in three separate parts. They probably should be viewed in Succession, starting at Part 1. Ren won an award for Part 3.
"Harter Tobak." Ja, das kann man sagen. Ren selbst nennt diesen Stil "Bardcore". Und diese Trilogie beruht auf einer wahren Begebenheit. Meisterhaftes Storytelling, nicht nur mit seiner Stimme, auch mit der Gitarre und der Kamera ! Ren is a once in a lifetime artist.
Ren has so many happy upbeat songs - as a vocal coach you will love Fred Again mash up (just Ren and his guitar singing), you will also love 'its alright' from a very young Ren, 'down on the beat' is a real banger rap, the 'love music' series (1 to 4) are all upbeat and part 4 is very cheeky 😜they highlight his journey from young Ren to more recent,
@thefreyacaseymusic I was saying he was in this... its overall... he doesnt care! Won't fix errors like that! Perfectly imperfectly Perfect imo! Like with you... it's Sooo refreshing to see such an artist today!
Great reaction and analysis! A few suggestions for happier songs are Losing It and Back on 74/Message in a Bottle by Ren. His Band The Big Push has some fun songs too. I suggest Bongo Bong or Praise You. Have fun with all the great music toy have now discovered!
deutscher renegade hier, er hat wirklich ein unglaubliches spektrum und eine unglaubliche range: - so richtung gute laune: vieles wo er mit the big push singt, oder generell er eher busking, message in a bottle, fred again
He dosnt have much id call straight up happy.. Maybe the love music series.. About 20% of his songs are 'not particularly dark or sad' lol - and the rest are.. but he does quite often even in those have a positive message. He has been ill and in pain for most of his life so yeah most of his songs are about that - less so so of his rap stuff. But you have to think he is doing so in a way that is very cathartic and affirming for a alot of people - and overall, Ren's message is one of hope and holding on in the face of adversity.
Lovely reaction. You see a lot of that "I'll just do what I want" in his guerilla style of shooting. He prefers to ask forgiveness than get permission ahead of time. In "Hi Ren" they had to negotiate with the owner when he found them using his room, and in Jenny/Screech/Violet there's a story of someone almost ruining a take by yelling out the window at him to shut up.
Also, I empathize with your parental feelings when you talked about your twins. My girls are not twins, but very young (6 and 2), so whenever Ren involves kids in his stories, it hits me harder. I would recommend his recent song "Money Ties", which has a section where he gives advice to his young sister to try to prepare her for the harshness of the world. That part always plucks my parental heart strings, and I think you would appreciate it.
I think what makes him so unique is that he actually speaks out the depths of his stories whereas in a lot of mainstream music, we always stay on the surface. No blanket statements that essentially mean nothing because they've been used to death. His lyrics are so colorful, as are his voice and facial expressions.
Ren is a modern day bard painting such vivid imagery with his storytelling that it pulls you in and forces you to keep watching - even when it gets physically uncomfortable during Violet’s Tale. And Ren uses this ability to shed light on far too real issues in the world. Ren is special. And you are of course right. No changes have been made to the vocals. Just some sound engineering. Ren learned by doing as he would spend hours upon hours cleaning up and adjusting volumes on recordings from busking sessions with the band The Big Push (where drums would just be recorded on a phone 😅). Ren is a perfectionist but embraces real and raw emotions. Perfect imperfections ❤
Back On ‘74/ Message In A Bottle……awesomevocals, setting and happy happy happy
Yes please
@@helenjarvis7755 that's one of my favorite mash-ups. 😁
Power is another upbeat one. Uninvited is a bit naughty and fun. Some from his busking band the Big Push.
Agree
@mainegator65. Yeah. Those are covers. Ren doesn’t really, write, “happy” songs. If he put one out, I’d question it? “Did he really write that?” Lol.
There are many upbeat happy Ren songs but even at his most playful this young man leaves us a message 🤯🎵🎶🔥🍯🤌🙏💪🐝🍀🇬🇧🦄🦄
Aye. Do you think Freya should listen to Blind Eyed featuring the angry carpark attendant
OH BOY, THE RENEGADES ARE GONNA LOVE YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!!
Yep, I couldn't believe after my first reaction to Hi Ren how many came to the comments and just flooded with awesome comments. Thanks, Renegades!

Can confirm. Am a renegade, and do love her so much. Easy follow and now to get library lol

- the way he uses his words and sets the scene for example when he could've simply say that Screech stabbed Jenny, he does it in a much more poetic way (and continues to do it in other instances in the songs, like when the Police is coming for Screech "the shrill cry of justice like a Banshee in the night"), just the same when Jenny froze he says it in a fantastic manner that sets a scene in your head...
Cheers
❤❤❤BARDCORE❤❤❤
Such important social commentary on generational violence, and the way we keep failing vulnerable people in our society, as well as the children caught in the middle or left behind.
Ren likes to play with Dissonant chords to create atmosphere.
He thought the catholic church deeming certain chords officially evil was ridiculous, so def plays with them, lol.
For sone lighter Ren:
"Back on 74/Message in a bottle" mashup, "Uninvited," "It's Alright" (younger Ren), and many with his old band The Big Push like "Bongo Bong," "Englishman in New York," or "Praise You," (Fat Boy Slim cover), which are all 3 -part harmonies.
He screeched because he is Screech! theres no off notes with Ren 😉 nice reaction, thanks
Thank you for the follow-up.
I'd suggest a Big Push (Ren's old band) next.
Wade in the water/A man's world. To see some vocal dexterity, on the streets of Brighton. 🎉
You are at the beginning of a crazy ride! He will surprise you around every single corner!!❤ You have a really cool vibe!! New sub here!
Respect, your down the Ren rabbit hole...welcome to the Renegade's, loved your reaction it was brilliant. 😀
Subbed to you
Thank you for sharing this amazing human REN
"Why aren't we doing more to stop these tragedies?"
As to whether this was a real story; Ren has said he was inspired [ saddened and disgusted ] to hear of a young street worker being killed by a young gang member and how quickly this story fell out of public view - lost in the relentless churn of the 24/7 News cycle.
Enjoy. 😊
You are soooo pretty. I love when people embrace the gray. Gorgeous, and smart.
Jennys tale was prompted by a newspaper story and people saying its such a shame then a few months later came Screeches tale then it was nearly 2 years later he released Violets tale tying it all together. Masterpiece.
This is SO great. Subbed.
Try back on 74 if if you need a pallet cleanser with Ren.
One of my absolute favourites is Back on 74…you get singing Ren
His magic lies in the orchestrated symmetry... of dissonance.
"Losing it" is a really fun, happier song.
the seagulls play their part perfectly.
It's not London it was filmed in 'the lanes' in Brighton, good review 👍
Thanks for mentioning that, it's just a case of the 'Mandela effect'.
@@eddiebirdie1545 ???What???
15:27 they also use the mic on the camera and mix it. When the Camara moves away in the hallway the reverb grew.
Great reaction
I recommend the deep songs of ren and they're all masterpieces and very different
1- how to be me(live version)
2- chalk outline (live version)
Those 2 are just him and chinchilla singing very deep lyrics and since you are a vocalist These 2 will be great for you to react to
3- suicide
4- for joe
5- dominoes
6- depression
7- 7 sins
8- money game part 1,2,3
9- fred again mashup
10- sick boi ( talks about his health journey)
These are all very unique and masterpieces and very different from anything you've ever heard
Welcome to reniverse
Authentic!
Genius!
Ren ist unfassbar begabt! So musikalisch divers, wie kaum ein anderer Künstler. Btw. Dein Englisch hört sich total schön an 🙂
Ren is just so........AWESOME!
Murderer (live) shows off his voice and of course Back on 74/Message in a bottle.
Oldie Renegade here.. new sub so I can enjoy being along for your ‘Rabbit Hole’ adventure! You’ll be amazed at ALL of his ‘genre-bending’ performances!!
This was 100% a great reaction
The big push Englishman in New York and bongo bong, these are fun and fabulous songs/covers appreciate your reaction🙂
But fantastic reactions.
waiting for the next one 👏👏👏👏
In a janitor closet in a friends apt building, they removed the items from the closet and set up the fake room
To lighten it up, watch Back on 74 live by him. This was filmed in Brighton and I believe the hospital set up was in his old apartment building.
I enjoyed your reaction. Thanks
Glad you enjoyed
great reaction freya
Enjoyed! Try Back on 74 next, it’s 🔥.
Ren has a band.. The big push. He has done a cover of I shot the sheriff. Great guitar and singing qualities❤
Thank you for your thoughts. 🙏🙏🙏
Ren has so many happy upbeat songs - as a vocal coach you will love Fred Again mash up (just Ren and his guitar singing), you will also love 'its alright' from a very young Ren, 'down on the beat' is a real banger rap, the 'love music' series (1 to 4) are all upbeat and part 4 is very cheeky 😜they highlight his journey from young Ren to more recent,
To hear Ren and Sam vocals up your lane. Check out them busking. Mans world. Fallin You will enjoy the talent and vocals
"im speechless" welcome to the Reniverse
Fred again mashup isn’t sad like this but it’s beautiful and it’s just ren and a guitar! Incredible and one of my favorites!!
We Love how Ren is Perfectly Imperfect! He doesnt worry about being a little sharp or flat, missing or muting a string accidentally!
He's not even sharp or flat. He has an edge to his tone and is refreshingly authentic in today's super-overproduced world.
@thefreyacaseymusic I was saying he was in this... its overall... he doesnt care! Won't fix errors like that!
Perfectly imperfectly Perfect imo! Like with you... it's Sooo refreshing to see such an artist today!
A guitar, a voice, and a camera.
There's probably some talent in there too 😊
Great reaction and analysis!
A few suggestions for happier songs are Losing It and Back on 74/Message in a Bottle by Ren. His Band The Big Push has some fun songs too. I suggest Bongo Bong or Praise You. Have fun with all the great music toy have now discovered!
Back on ‘74 is a happy one!
Doubt you walked these streets in London. Maybe similar ones, cause it was filmed in Brighton ;-)
Can we just appreciate how dirty his socks are 😅
Great reaction. Love it
Her inner Mom came thru! Lol
Thanks mate!
Great reaction 🎉🎉❤❤
deutscher renegade hier, er hat wirklich ein unglaubliches spektrum und eine unglaubliche range:
- so richtung gute laune: vieles wo er mit the big push singt, oder generell er eher busking, message in a bottle, fred again
BONGO BONG is a must for vocals and harmonies! Back on 74/message in bottle as well…
Ren, the modern day bard
welcome and all hugs around
"Bardcore"
Welcome to the ride!
