Congratulations - on taking your first step into the world of Ren. I'm 73, used to be a studio engineer, and I can honestly say I've never come across any artist that has so shaken me to the core. His lyrics and composition, musicianship and voice, and fearless creativity across multiple genres of music is I believe, something quite unique. Should you choose to dive into his current music and huge back catalogue, I'm confident you'll not be disappointed. As a vocalist, you might enjoy "Chalk Outlines", a gentle duet of desperation, with his friend, the wonderful Chinchilla. (Perhaps worth noting - the song, "Hi Ren" was a single take, with no audio edits - as are many of his performances)
Truth. He has taken over my Cornell and Vedder spots. Prince... ... was a diff beast so I can only say that Ren, in my 5th decade on this rock, is easily the most exciting artist with such a great crew and dedication to the product... I am grateful to have lived in the time to see his rise and success.
I'm curious what you think of his production skills for videos like this or even Big Push recordings. His brain seems to be able to figure out how to capture exactly what is needed from an improvised setup. I'm guessing he hasn't touched a $50,000 mixing console, but out produces people who call themselves high dollar experts in the field.
Ren is self taught but he does come from a musical background. His father specialises in playing medieval music on the Lute and storytelling and you'll hear that wandering minstrel style a lot with Ren, particularly the tales of Jenny and Screech. His mum is a vocal coach and story writer. He is an incredible talent, very versatile and creative. Loved your reaction, subbed, greetings from the UK 🇬🇧
Very well done. I love seeing newbies get gobsmacked by Ren. He has so much range. He raps like a master. Ballads will put you on the floor with tears. Vocal range is massive. Duets are impeccable. Most videos are one-takes. To get a better view of his vocal range, I’d watch “Back on 74” or “How to be Me”. So much more. Please keep reacting to his stuff. You won’t be disappointed.

I've listened to "Hi Ren" maybe a dozen times and each time I end up with tears rolling down my cheeks. How much pain must someone endure to write something like this? Looks like you got a proper welcome from the Renegades, I'm sure there will be more. LOVED your reaction, and I don't just say that to everyone who comes across Ren, your joy and amazement were very pure and genuine, I can tell that you are very passionate about your craft. Despite finding my calling in public service doing Fire/EMS, I've played, taught and made music most of my adult life, and I'm no spring chicken..lol. I can assure you that you're in for a treat, I've never seen anything like this kid. The Renegades have great big hearts and you won't meet a nicer more caring bunch, but they can be a little overwhelming at first sometimes, just remember, there is no order in which you must consume Ren's music, it's your "rabbit hole" to travel down. They give great advice, but if you wish to choose to react to something you think looks interesting, they will respect your wishes and be along for the ride. Enjoy!! ✌💚

There are areas of Wales where there are a high proportion of people who are not native Welsh but please do not mistake this for a lack of Welsh culture

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person. First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through hell, bullied all through school to the point i attempted suicide twice, and to many issues in my life since then I am a recovering alcoholic 14 years clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt with i may have had a reasonable life not the existence i have to deal with now Fun fact Ren is self taught on guitar he learned by slowing youtube video's down and copying them

This man and his crew... I've seen soo much and am still always surprised at how he just keeps doing something I've Never seen before. I cannot compare him to anyone. He is theater but busks on the streets so easily like breathing air. He collabs so well. Tackles hard topics and calls out liars... but then sings in the next song w a joy of living. Personally I call it down to earth, humbled and helpful. He helps us not to feel so alone and that many others are going through doubts about their self worth and internal battles.
Just a man with a guitar and an idea. He brought that idea to life by rapping, singing, playing guitar and acting in a live performance that could humble a full production show. Ren is no one trick pony either. Self taught in singing and multiple instruments and an amazing story teller. Enjoy.
I've been watching a *lot* of reactions for a few months now, and it's only recently that I (not a musician) have been able to step back a little and see how simple (as in uncomplicated, not like *I* could ever hope play them) many of his his guitar parts are, but how perfectly they fit with and augment the singing.

There's a convenient ~14 minute run time, seamless compilation on his channel. A comparison to Shakespeare is not at all hyperbole. Prolly the next couple i'd recommend for you would be Ren and Sam Thompkins' Earned it/ Man's World/ Fallin, then prolly Ren and Chinchilla's How To Be Me. All are Live one takes. 2:41 when you said it’s “very unique”, I wa like, strap yourself in, he hasn’t even started yet 😂 In my humble opinion, what makes this performance genuinely unique is that’s one take, start to finish, filmed live, with zero pitch correction and minimal post production. It’s refreshing on so many levels.
Ren self taught piano, cello and guitar with his own idiosyncratic finger placement on piano runs and unconventional guitar picking. He composes in classical, reggae, rap, and his own unique song structures. He also does midblowingly beautiful covers of other artist’s songs, usually recorded on other people’s cell phones as he busked in Brighton. He performs, acts, post mixes and produces his own songs, plus freely collaborates with multiple other extraordinary singers he’s found or have found him. If you want to experience his complete range and have your life changed, start tracking down one song a week or a fortnight at least. Some of his most famous works (that don’t even showcase his range) are Money Game 1, 2 & 3 plus Money Ties. You need the Lyric video for Money Game 2, not the teaser where he’s on the beach. The Tales of Jenny+Screech & Violet’s Tale, which need to be listened to together in order as a tryptich. Back In 74/Message In A Bottle. Su!cide. Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins Featuring Angry Parking Lot Attrndant, in which Ren finishes the one take, one shot song after snapping two of his guitar strings and adjusting. Troubles. I wish I could find more of his classical piano, I’ve only found one extremely short recording of his personal classical piano outside of Money Game 3 so far. Oh, and you HAVE to watch Chalk Outlines (live) with Chinchilla, and How to Be Me (live) with her also, they are extraordinary, and a lot of meat for a vocalist to dig into with the both of them.
Glad you discovered Ren. He is an amazing musician, singer, rapper, storyteller and seems like just an amazing human being. If you dig into some of his back catalogue you are in for a absolute treat and a lot of surprises.

Ren is absolutely unique and has so much more to explore. Andrew Lloyd Webber said about Ren, "is one of the most unique songwriters and storytellers I've seen in recent time."
There are so many things in this work, one of the more subtle ones, and one of my favorites, is how he places a pause before the word “die”, and lowers his head, when he says “I choose if you die.” He has many other brilliant pieces, but “Hi Ren” really is its own thing, uniquely powerful and direct among his videos. It is the cornerstone of Ren World.

I've seen literally every Hi Ren reaction, some more than a few times and I'm not the same person I was exactly 9 minutes before the first time I heard this song. Every reaction since has added something to this experience that only individuals can add. Not everyone loves this song, not everyone understands it. But seeing a human being be so open in the face of the world at large never gets old. I love your thoughts on this brilliant piece of art.

Welcome to ren world He has a lot of masterpieces like this one, and each one is different than the other He is very talented he is his own genre, he touches any genre and bends it. So next masterpiece by ren I definitely recommend the trilogy of jenny and screech the full 13 minutes version And a back story about hi ren: Ren is an independent artist he does his videos with minimum budget and A lot of his music videos are in one take and live, so Usually he records about 20 takes and chooses the best one, but specifically for this one " hi ren" they managed to take only 4 takes because they were recording in this basement without permission, and when the owner of the building found them asked them to leave immediately. But they begged him to let them record. And he gave them only 30 minutes and they must leave. So in this 30 minutes they were able to record only 4 takes and it turned out to be this masterpiece. The video is a mix of the 4 takes but the audio is all from one of the 4 takes. How ever i highly recommend the trilogy of jenny and screech it is 3 stories in one 13 minutes video and each one of the stories are in one take and live. it is again very different and unique you will be blown away He has a lot of masterpieces but usually after hi ren the trilogy is the best to watch then " sick boi" is another very diffrent masterpiece of his where he talks about his struggles during the time that he was sick and suffering with his disease and how medical industry treated him

Real student of music, self-taught. Please keep going down this rabbit hole, may I suggest you branch out to his singing, he did a lot of busking both with a band he was in, The Big Push and he has a lot of great collabs with others. Long time subscribers, I'm a huge Katrina Velarde fan, and I really hope we can get your perspective on so many things he did. Try a little Nina Simone from him and his band busking. Wade in the Water/Nina Simone (Feeling Good)/ Trouble So Hard or if you want a little Reggae, Who Shot the Sherriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop (red suspenders version) You will get a lot of suggestions, from the Renegades, who will love you. Tales of Jenny and Screech is the best "Bard cord" you will ever see but I'm trying to show off his singing more. Chalk Outlines and Hard to Be Me with Chinchilla are heavy emotional duets, well worth seeing. Let me stop for now, Ren has so much to experience I could go on forever.

Accent wise ...Ren was raised on the relatively large rural island of Anglesey, situated just off the north coast of Wales. He moved to Bath (SW England) to study and start a band, but caught undiagnosed Lyme disease. He moved to Brighton (costal town directly south of London) and busked and worked with several different artist, plus solo work.

This is the journey i have literally seen hundreds, yes, hundreds of times. First you pause the video a few times and give some thoughts. Then, when Ren begins his rapping storytelling, your jaw drops, your eyes do the talking. And we Renegades LOVE that. Having seen Hi Ren so many times, we enjoy seeing it "for the first time again" through reactors eyes and ears. Gobsmacked, speechless, inspired, moved, emotional, understood, the list goes on. I stumbled upon this *masterpiece* in January of 2023. Suffering from decades with severe chronic depression and immense loneliness, i almost lost all of my emotions and the ability to enjoy *anything* or getting excited. Felt hollow and empty inside, not alive anymore. And then, Hi Ren was in my recommendations one day. Saw the thumbnail, looked interesting. I was not ready. My jaw dropped, goosebumps, tears, it hit me like an earthquake. Finally, i felt not alone anymore, felt understood. Ren made me love music again and especially meaningful lyrics. 'The war of art' as Simon Pressfield put it in his book of the same name. Ren is one of a kind, he is one of the most important artists of his generation.
It's definitely a strange phenomenon, but it's watching people (often professional musicians, rappers, singers, producers, etc) realize how limited their previous thinking about music has been. Or the people who watch it from a mental health perspective realize these are concepts nobody's ever successfully conveyed artistically before. Either way, if the reactor is coming in truly cold, it's a revelation being viewed by us.

LOVED your reaction, and I don't just say that to everyone who comes across Ren, your joy and amazement were very pure and genuine, I can tell that you are very passionate about your craft. Despite finding my calling in public service doing Fire/EMS, I've played, taught and made music most of my adult life, and I'm no spring chicken..lol. I can assure you that you're in for a treat, I've never seen anything like this kid. The Renegades have great big hearts and you won't meet a nicer more caring bunch, but they can be a little overwhelming at first sometimes, just remember, there is no order in which you must consume Ren's music, it's your "rabbit hole" to travel down. They give great advice, but if you wish to choose to react to something you think looks interesting, they will respect your wishes and be along for the ride. Enjoy!! ✌💚

There are areas of Wales where there are a high proportion of people who are not native Welsh but please do not mistake this for a lack of Welsh culture

Ren is therapy for so many from one song he helps so many people open up in ways therapists struggle to do in person.
First time i watched Hi Ren i had a panic attack but thought i needed to watch it again so i watched someone reacting to it
that was the best thing i could do i have watched many times since. One thing i think about this song is it needs to be seen
by every one even in schools after a certain age, because how many children kill themselves because of the negativity
towards them from nasty comments and bullying to them believing what is said. I went through hell, bullied all through
school to the point i attempted suicide twice, and to many issues in my life since then I am a recovering alcoholic 14 years
clean I suffer PTSD and other health issues so the majority of bad days over good is high, if this bullying had been dealt
with i may have had a reasonable life not the existence i have to deal with now

This man and his crew... I've seen soo much and am still always surprised at how he just keeps doing something I've Never seen before. I cannot compare him to anyone. He is theater but busks on the streets so easily like breathing air. He collabs so well. Tackles hard topics and calls out liars... but then sings in the next song w a joy of living. The man has hurt me heart and he has healed it. Peace and Love to all j'all. The Ren rabbit holes are time very well spent. ☮☮💜💜

Personally I call it down to earth, humbled and helpful. He helps us not to feel so alone and that many others are going through doubts about their self worth and internal battles.
Just a man with a guitar and an idea. He brought that idea to life by rapping, singing, playing guitar and acting in a live performance that could humble a full production show. Ren is no one trick pony either. Self taught in singing and multiple instruments and an amazing story teller. Enjoy.
I've been watching a *lot* of reactions for a few months now, and it's only recently that I (not a musician) have been able to step back a little and see how simple (as in uncomplicated, not like *I* could ever hope play them) many of his his guitar parts are, but how perfectly they fit with and augment the singing.

Welcome to the Renaissance. The Tales of Jenny and Screech are gonna do it too. It's a 3 part-er, but you have to see them together, and in order. There's a convenient ~14 minute run time, seamless compilation on his channel. A comparison to Shakespeare is not at all hyperbole.
Prolly the next couple i'd recommend for you would be Ren and Sam Thompkins' Earned it/ Man's World/ Fallin, then prolly Ren and Chinchilla's How To Be Me. All are Live one takes. In my humble opinion, what makes this performance genuinely unique is that’s one take, start to finish, filmed live, with zero pitch correction and minimal post production. It’s refreshing on so many levels.
Ren self taught piano, cello and guitar with his own idiosyncratic finger placement on piano runs and unconventional guitar picking. He composes in classical, reggae, rap, and his own unique song structures. He also does midblowingly beautiful covers of other artist’s songs, usually recorded on other people’s cell phones as he busked in Brighton. He performs, acts, post mixes and produces his own songs, plus freely collaborates with multiple other extraordinary singers he’s found or have found him. If you want to experience his complete range and have your life changed, start tracking down one song a week or a fortnight at least.
Some of his most famous works (that don’t even showcase his range) are Money Game 1, 2 & 3 plus Money Ties. You need the Lyric video for Money Game 2, not the teaser where he’s on the beach. The Tales of Jenny+Screech & Violet’s Tale, which need to be listened to together in order as a tryptich. Back In 74/Message In A Bottle. Su!cide. Blind Eyed with Sam Tompkins Featuring Angry Parking Lot Attrndant, in which Ren finishes the one take, one shot song after snapping two of his guitar strings and adjusting. Troubles. I wish I could find more of his classical piano, I’ve only found one extremely short recording of his personal classical piano outside of Money Game 3 so far. Oh, and you HAVE to watch Chalk Outlines (live) with Chinchilla, and How to Be Me (live) with her also, they are extraordinary, and a lot of meat for a vocalist to dig into with the both of them.
Glad you discovered Ren. He is an amazing musician, singer, rapper, storyteller and seems like just an amazing human being. If you dig into some of his back catalogue you are in for a absolute treat and a lot of surprises.

There are so many things in this work, one of the more subtle ones, and one of my favorites, is how he places a pause before the word “die”, and lowers his head, when he says “I choose if you die.”

I've seen literally every Hi Ren reaction, some more than a few times and I'm not the same person I was exactly 9 minutes before the first time I heard this song. Every reaction since has added something to this experience that only individuals can add. Not everyone loves this song, not everyone understands it. But seeing a human being be so open in the face of the world at large never gets old. I love your thoughts on this brilliant piece of art.

And a back story about hi ren:
Ren is an independent artist he does his videos with minimum budget and A lot of his music videos are in one take and live, so Usually he records about 20 takes and chooses the best one, but specifically for this one " hi ren" they managed to take only 4 takes because they were recording in this basement without permission, and when the owner of the building found them asked them to leave immediately. But they begged him to let them record. And he gave them only 30 minutes and they must leave. So in this 30 minutes they were able to record only 4 takes and it turned out to be this masterpiece. The video is a mix of the 4 takes but the audio is all from one of the 4 takes.
How ever i highly recommend the trilogy of jenny and screech it is 3 stories in one 13 minutes video and each one of the stories are in one take and live. it is again very different and unique you will be blown away
He has a lot of masterpieces but usually after hi ren the trilogy is the best to watch then " sick boi" is another very diffrent masterpiece of his where he talks about his struggles during the time that he was sick and suffering with his disease and how medical industry treated him
Ren to me, is a book with a blank cover. Open the book and the pages transport you to a time, place and emotion of Rens choosing. I'm just an old fart, but Ren has touched and helped me these last couple years. God bless and keep Ren among us, we need him

You will get a lot of suggestions, from the Renegades, who will love you. Tales of Jenny and Screech is the best "Bard cord" you will ever see but I'm trying to show off his singing more. Chalk Outlines and Hard to Be Me with Chinchilla are heavy emotional duets, well worth seeing.

He covers ALL of humanity... pain and greed and sickness and joy and love. Seriously... ja need to commit to rolling through his catalogue. The man hit #1 UK as an independent artist. His Sick Boi, The Tale of Jenny & Screech, and Money games 1-3 are crazy well produced and heavier. But Back on 74 is sexy jazzy, his busking w The Big Push on the corner streets is amazing. Chalk Outlines w Chinchilla is crazy great. For Joe Live is gloriously heartbreaking. ... ... really... if you roll down this line... people will watch. He is likely the greatest artist in my last decade with a phenomenal crew. Past top shelf. 140 tries to then do the "one take"... He is worth your time and I hope you explore across his work... he's fearless... but find his love of living, not just his addressing the hard jagged edges we all have in out own way.
Loved the rawness of this reaction. Twice I had to laugh as I did the exact same “phwoooooo” after the song and after the spoken section.
Accent wise ...Ren was raised on the relatively large rural island of Anglesey, situated just off the north coast of Wales. He moved to Bath (SW England) to study and start a band, but caught undiagnosed Lyme disease. He moved to Brighton (costal town directly south of London) and busked and worked with several different artist, plus solo work.
You, being a vocal coach, would probably love Ren's spontaneous stream jam. It's an excerpt from a Twitch stream he did, but you get to see him play many different songs, off the cuff, amd see a bit of his personality. Ren is an alien.....
This is the journey i have literally seen hundreds, yes, hundreds of times. First you pause the video a few times and give some thoughts.
Then, when Ren begins his rapping storytelling, your jaw drops, your eyes do the talking. And we Renegades LOVE that. Having seen Hi Ren so many times,
we enjoy seeing it "for the first time again" through reactors eyes and ears. Gobsmacked, speechless, inspired, moved, emotional, understood, the list goes on.
I stumbled upon this *masterpiece* in January of 2023. Suffering from decades with severe chronic depression and immense loneliness, i almost lost all
of my emotions and the ability to enjoy *anything* or getting excited. Felt hollow and empty inside, not alive anymore. And then, Hi Ren was in my recommendations one day.
Saw the thumbnail, looked interesting. I was not ready. My jaw dropped, goosebumps, tears, it hit me like an earthquake. Finally, i felt not alone anymore, felt understood.
Ren made me love music again and especially meaningful lyrics. And for that i am forever grateful to him.

I'm honestly hooked on Ren reactions.
It's definitely a strange phenomenon, but it's watching people (often professional musicians, rappers, singers, producers, etc) realize how limited their previous thinking about music has been. Or the people who watch it from a mental health perspective realize these are concepts nobody's ever successfully conveyed artistically before. Either way, if the reactor is coming in truly cold, it's a revelation being viewed by us.
