  • Spinners play a key role in all teams, at all levels, across all format, with many of the most successful bowlers of all time being spinners.
    Bowling spin is something we think everyone should try, and the basics are often overlooked in favour of teaching everyone to bowl seam.
    In this second video, Ed takes a look at the basics of the finger spin bowling action, including the Back Foot Contact (BFC), Front Foot Contact (FFC), Release, and Follow Through position.
    He provides visual examples of the best spinners in the world, so you can see the positions they get into, and learn from them!
    As a former first class spinner it's great to hear Ed going back to basics and covering some of the key points that all spinners rely on to execute their skills.

      @@InFormCricketI’ve just been bowling in the nets, it’s slowly getting there. I feel like I’m releasing the ball before I’m planting my front foot. My peers have been saying that I’m lobbing the ball instead of releasing it later and my momentum isn’t going through my action.I guess I have to work on that. Will let you know of the outcome. @@mayuranjayatharan7048 If you're releasing the ball before your front foot is planted, this means our weight is back. We must transfer our weight onto the front foot in order to get balanced, to then release the ball. When you land on your front foot, try and be in a 'starfish' position, where your arms are stretched out wide at shoulder height, and your legs are spilt and both on the ground, creating the star shape. Then transfer your weight onto your front foot to release (and use your front arm!). Hope makes sense. Good luck

    • @InFormCricket
      @InFormCricket  2 роки тому +2

      Thanks Mithun! The next part is the series will be run up and entry to the crease. But in the meantime, your run is there to help you build momentum towards the target, and helps with your rhythm and timing. Make sure your jump into the crease is relatively straight to help your momentum going forwards. And jump so your body has time to get side on before you bowl. Hope this helps

      Thanks for the comment @melvinpaul85, and thank you for watching the video! I’m working on a video about line and length, but generally you want to bounce the ball 4 metres away from the stumps, this is deemed a good length where the batter can’t smother the spin on the front foot from the crease, and the ball can threaten the stumps if the batter goes on the back foot. • @InFormCricket
      @InFormCricket  Рік тому

      When your front foot lands we want our hips to be pointing 45 degrees from the batter. So the hips are not pointing down the wicket (that’s on release), or 90 degrees from the batter (ie belly button pointing towards extra cover/mid wicket). Hope this helps

    • @InFormCricket
      @InFormCricket  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks for the comment!
      Your non bowling arm does help with line and length - LINE = the direction it slices down in aligns your shoulders with the target, and LENGTH = helps get your weight forward over your front leg to get a high release point above your head.
      Try to make sure your non bowling arm copies the same motion you want the ball to have in flight towards the batter.
      In other words, make sure your non bowling arm goes UP towards the sky, then OUT towards the batter.

      Back foot contact is important. You have to be strong in your legs and core. Just not to jump high, and also sideways, as this makes landing in a stable position much harder. So practice jumping straight and land on your back foot with no wobble. Then practice jumping straight landing on back foot then quickly transferring onto front foot in a straight line. Good luck

    can you tell any solution and they said rightor not

    • @InFormCricket
      @InFormCricket  Рік тому +1

      Hi Riyaz, thanks for taking the time to comment. The ball might not be spinning for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the seam needs to dig into the surface to spin. So 1) the ball needs to land on the seam while rotating, and 2) the pitch needs to allow the seam to dig in (flat hard pitch won’t dig in as much, so won’t spin as much). So firstly work out whether you’re hitting the seam. If you’re hitting the seam at the ball isn’t spinning, it may be the pitch being too hard, or it may be that there aren’t many revolutions (rotations) on the ball. In order to get more revolutions on the ball, we use our whole body to pivot and use our wrist and fingers to spin the ball at the release point. Make sure your body is rotating 180 degrees when bowling. In other words, your body faces out before release, and then rotates around and faces the other direction after release. Hope this helps

    • @InFormCricket
      @InFormCricket  Рік тому +2

      Obviously the more you bowl the more your body understands how to move and the sequence of bowling becomes instinctive. So practice as much as you can, but with good habits and focus. Figure out what works and what doesn’t work. In regards to bowling a good length, this comes from having a repeatable action, and the release point being at the top of your action. Try to make sure your head is over your front leg when releasing the ball, and driving towards the target. Put some cones down 4 metres from the stumps, and learn how to land the ball on that good length area. Hope this helps

      Usually to do with either direction of your jump into the crease (not jumping straight), or by your front arm going around your body meaning your back points towards the batter on back foot contact. Try jumping straight and working on your front arm going up and out towards the stumps - let your front follow follow.
