After all Atherton has done for Sky Sports, they then force him to face McGrath again, that’s just cruel 😅
😂😂😂
😂🎉
Not having to face Allan Donald again is written into his Sky contract.
@@bananabrooks3836Now that I’d like to see 😆
hahaha😂
Glenn McGrath and Ricky Ponting - two of Australia's best. What a pleasure it was to watch them at the peak of their powers while growing up. Ponting is a great commentator, too.
Glenn is great on TMS
Pointing is a good coach too
yeah Pointing is my favorite commentator - and hear in his words why he was the best cricketer
Ponting great commentator? Oh!! No.
Disagree about Ponting's commentary. Too much ego in his commentary for starters. He commentates like he's still captain. Warney was the best commentator. No ego in his commentary. He was pro Oz all the way but he gave kudos to the opposition all the time. His technical knowledge was fantastic. Would often predict wickets before they happened and his stories were second to none when the cricket was going nowhere. Great on and off the pitch! RIP Warney.
McGrath & Warne, McGrath & Gillespie just bowling at its finest. Glorious times as a cricket fan ! Phenomenal !
You missed Brett lee, who is got 380 ODI wickets at an 23 average
best bowling line up of all time imo…accuracy, movement, speed & attitude
@@arnab6154 Lee was a good ODI bowler, but he wasn't anywhere near the standard of McGrath, Warne and Gillespie at Test level. He was pretty much a two-length shock bowler with a mix of bouncers and yorkers and always bowled the odd bad ball to let the pressure off. If batsmen could see off his initial pace, he wasn't really that threatening.
Both Ponting and McGrath were amazing..they took Aus to such great heights..that Aus team was arguably the greatest ever alongside WI of 1980s
Ponting as a pundit is almost as good as he was as a bat and captain. Class, Sky's coverage has improved because of Ponting's contribution. Sky would do well to MA Taylor to do a masterclass too - he wasn't a bad player either.
That Aussie team was legendary, I remember growing up watching the ashes on channel 4 (when it was on free TV 😂) and those 2 always got us out early, I'm surprised it didn't actually put me off cricket the tonkings we took lol
Ponting, McGrath, Shane Warne era might be the greatest ever test side. And there was West Indies once. But when west Indies was playing their best cricket other teams were like Minnows.
Sky put a lot of money into the ashes coverage! The amount of pundits that have is great
Always been a fan of Ponting but he’s been absolutely brilliant this ashes, the sky coverage for cricket is genuinely in a league of its own
if i could have Ponting on every session and every over i would tbh, the guy is just a cricket genius
and what a player he was... skys football pundits could learn a lot
I think Mark Taylor is a great commentator, he’s not a Warne replacement as it’s impossible but I enjoy Tubby’s commentary. Used to hate Ponting enjoy his punditry this series for sure
They have the money...they can pick the cream.
@@yamyitetubbs just makes alot of very obvious observations doesn't he sometimes? Maybe they're for like people watching their first cricket series but I don't really understand making those points over and over again
Love how they are all mates now and have that mutual respect.
Two members of arguably the greatest test team ever assembled. Although the West Indies will probably have a thing or two to say about that.
It's a toss-up for mine. Both teams were absolutely stacked from top to bottom.
I think Australia were probably a bit better. Not much in it though, as the fast bowling attack of the Windies was something special. Shame to see what's become of West Indian cricket in recent years.
@connorism69
I think West Indies were better. They didn't lose a test series for 15 years.
The only 2 test series they lost in 19 years, 1 test match by 1 wicket v New Zealand. The New Zealand umpiring was poor and Viv didn't play this series. They lost 1 test match v India, in 1978. Kallicharran, Sylvester Clarke and, Marshall's first test series, played this series. The other West Indian regular players were playing Packer cricket.
Marshall, Holding, Roberts, Garner, Croft, Ambrose, Walsh, Bishop, Patterson, Daniel, Clarke for West Indies. There are others like Tony Gray, Ezra Moseley.
McGrath, Lee, Gillespie, Fleming, Kasprowicz, and Reiffel for Australia.
Greenidge, Fredericks, Haynes, Viv, Rowe, Lloyd, Richardson, and Kallicharran in batting.
Hayden, Langer, Ponting, Steve Waugh, Mark Waugh, Martyn, and Michael Clarke for Australia.
The batting is similar.
Dujon was a better wicketkeeper than Gilchrist. Gilchrist was a better wicketkeeper batsman.
Warne is one of the best legspinners of all-time.
West Indies have the best fast bowling of all-time. 6:36
West Indies were a bit one dimensional
Everytime it gets so hard hearing someone talks about Warne because I miss him so very badly that all his memories on and off the field gives me chills through my spine..
Saying missing you Warne is an understatement for me when i think about him..😢
When Glenn start to bowl we can feel that aura, Those long strides approaching batsman it was so beautiful to watch🤤
I grew up watching Warne and McGrath. It was a pleasure. They were so good
Warnie and Glenn were a deadly partnership and adding fire was brett Lee … trio was one of the best bowling attacks of all times …. Warnie is my personal favorite … an artist of sort … There has been just one spinner throughout … others just bowl slow😂
Don't forget Gillespie... His runup to bowl evoked fear in batsmen's eyes...
@@donbastian7715 Yes you are right
McGrath easily the Best fast bowler of his time.. Performed exceptionally well in all over the world.
Has anyone ever actually tested McGrath to see if he isn't the bowling equivalent of a terminator? I mean it's uncanny that you give him a ball out of the blue ask him to bowl a few and he's RIGHT back to that line and length.
If you look up a dictionary for the word Metronome you'd find Glenn McGrath's pic next to it. He was famous for that nagging metronomic line outside offstump.
If only you could time travel !
McGrath,Gillespie,Warne, and the Australian side of that era,Slater,Hayden, the Waugh brothers,Bevan,Healy etc ,against Greenidge,Haynes ,Richards Gomes,Marshall,Holding,King,
Roberts ! Two of the best Test
sides ever !
Circket fans in whole world miss these legendary Players in Cricket field.
Back in the 2000s , we used to say Ricky Ponting's job was the easiest one in the world. When your 11th man is a match winner with the bat, you don't need to sweat a lot.❤
My Childhood heroes absolute an honor and priveldge to watch you guys play cricket again
Sir mcgrath is a perfect example for every upcoming youngster that if u have all basics ticked then pace is no barrier for u ❤🎉
Even though warney has left us i still love pointing, mcgrath and atherton
these in-studio nets are the most innovative and educational piece of sport journalism covering all disciplines. And if you have the likes of McGrath, Ponting, or recently Sangakkara in the house, what else can you long for? I learnt a ton all these years.
"bazball, bazzball.. he used his feet" - Ponting
lmao
What a joy it must have been as a captain to be able to have Warne and McGrath bowling for an hour. Any match situation would have turned in your favour.
Glenn McGrath along with Wasim Akram were the two greatest fast bowlers I've watched in the last 25 years. There are others like Walsh, Ambrose, Donald, Pollock, Anderson, Akhtar, Steyn, Broad, Zaheer Khan, Cummins, Morkel, Rabada, Bumrah, and many. But, McGrath had exceptional control and Akram had exceptional skill with the ball. The most passionate I watched were Donald, Akhtar, and Steyn. The most calm and effective were Pollock, Morkel, and Anderson. The most skillful with the ball were Akram, Zaheer, and Anderson.
In all honesty, I really think that Australia 2003 team is the greatest team in test cricket in the last 25 years. Additionally, I also think with T20 coming up, test batsmenship has actually taken a nose dive. There are no Dravids, Silvas, Pontings, and Mahelas anymore. The quality of test cricket has reduced. One thing that McGrath didn't face much which the modern bowlers faced is that the batsmen were not very aggressive in their shots but they were aggressive in their mindset. 280 on a day was a very good score. Nowadays, teams are scoring over 350 consistently in a day and even 400 if the tail goes aggressive. I prefer the old times, but such is life - everything needs to change.
The other good thing back in the old times was - Sri Lanka was a really good team, Zimbabwe was a decent team, and WI was a good team. Nowadays, it is just England, India, and Australia to be honest again. Quality has reduced, number of good teams has reduced.
The other problem now is: India doesn't play Pakistan, Australia, WI, and England don't play Afghanistan, and that's half the teams that play test cricket. I think ICC should come together and solve these issues to make test cricket exciting.
Love the team Sky assemble for the Ashes with the mix of English and Aussie players that have respsect for each other and know how to have some lightheared banter. Shame many of the fans cannot replicate the same behaviours.
Punter warnie piegon haydos Gilly binga jl pup huss Gillespie martyn Waugh brothers slater healy Fleming bevan Symonds Johnson watto what a test and one day side Aussie were from 1996 to 2008 they were just beyond reach of many teams
Absolute champions
I had the pleasure of watching them on tour at Taunton
After facing Macgrath, Lee in nets .. facing Indian bowling is very easy for Hayden , ponting
Ponting was the real deal, I remember the time Australia was amazing loved it.
Pretty clear poor old Glenn pulled something quite badly in that little demo. Great fast bowlers retire for a reason!
Glen and Ricky in one frame what else you want as 90s kid.
Anderson May have more wickets but doesn’t come close to
McGrath.
Fan Of Sir Shan Warne Stylish as his Attitude , Action, Face Expression 😍. I Ever Remind my kids about him. loves Australian 2003 all Side. & Sir Steve Waugh💖 forever Loves (Men Of Steel).
I could watch mcgrath and pointing all daybeven though im english they were a joy to watch
Disciplined bowling like Mcgrath and stroke technique like Ponting will something the current and upcoming genration will never have!
McGrath is up there in the sporting pantheon for me.
Heydon, Cook, Ponting, Sachin, Kalis, Fillintoff, sangakara, warne, Akram, McGrath, Murli, 12th man - Steyn
All you need to know about Warne is that when he died the tributes that came from the English press and fans was like we'd lost one of our own, not our chief tormentor.
Mr McGrath was really something else, I just used to hope Brian Lara could be their for 45mins to get the feel of it? Otherwise 😢, he destroyed us the West Indies, and Mr Ricky Ponting was a terror with the bat, if you don't get him early like Lara 😢, we were doom, but I enjoyed watching all these legendary players of that Era.
My all-time favourite bowler Glenn McGrath 🔥
2:59 The presenter does not seem to understand what a 'shorter' length means. Or, he wasn't paying attention to what Ricky was saying.
Atherton exhibiting what PTSD looks like.
Ridiculous they’re still so in shape 😂
The guys who made our childhood great
The understanding Ponting has of cricket is what makes him the greatest Australian captain ever. And for me the way he danced around and played his shots with authority waa amazing to watch. Definitely most pleasent to watch.
Nah, he inherited Waugh's unbeatable team
@@MLaak86 I agree. How can Ponting be the best captain when he lost about 3 Ashes series? Waugh won all of his.
This is amazing stuff to watch for any cricket fan
That Australian side was the best.....Glen is a LEGEND...
Mcgrath vs Ponting would have been a better competition than Sachin vs McGrath.
Punter's hair looking natural!
Ponting's raw talent and confidence was visible in that one shot. Artherton was shaky even in this relaxed set up.
Look at these legends! Damn what days we’ve seen!! And today its al about ipl, money and politics 🤦🏻♂️
The moment he said shane warne! 😢
Legend
Something pure about Aussie and English ex cricketers. They all seem to respect each other and genuinely have a laugh. Except Beefy and Chapel. They hate each other.
My all time favourite Sachin, McGrath, Ponting😊
McGrath is nightmare for every batsman in word 🙏🙏🙏
@rajeshswami9239
So a nightmare only in word, not in deed?
Childhood heroes
3 greats of the game …and Ian Ward
Mc grath,is always no 1, bowler in the world 🌎🌍.
Well Sky cricket broadcasts the best content. Wonder why sony don't telecast everything that's been on sky cricket during the game day?
The Australian team of Ponting, Warne, McGrath, Gilchrist, Lee, Martin, Langer, etc etc were the best ever, a legendary team that dominated cricket. Not like today’s Aussie team that doesn’t have the same killer instinct, too weak.
Hayden
Dale steyn mcgrath best bowler of 21st centrury..
Ambrose was better
Wasn't McGrath's bowling partner Jason Gillespie?
Ricky Ponting Da Man!.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 world 🌎🌍,no 1 bowler mc grath .
Three greatest fast bowlers imo:
Malcolm Marshall
Glenn McGrath
Sir Richard Hadlee
How biased
Conveniently forgot the bowler better than the names you mentioned. The greatest bowler is Wasim Akram
McGrath and bretlee are nightmare for us….
Never knew Brian Harman knew so much about cricket 😂😂
who would you rather have in your team, McGrath or Warne?
I would have mcgrath he troubled the best batsmen on horrible pitches in Asia and west indies he never had any problem bowling on Asian countries with not good pitches as Australia or England he had no weakness
Warne had big weakness he never got any Indian batsmen out in India but I know for fact teams in that generation were afraid of mcgrath because he had no weakness they knew it
Ashes was incomplete without warney in the box 😢😢
Mcgrath 👌
Cricket was over with that era 😢
Greatest pacer ever.
Ponting is a brilliant pundit.
🎉🎉🎉🎉okay I will agree mc Garth legend bowler but not beautiful movements natural bowling bowler beautiful movements natural beauty bowling bowler from Austria brete Lee
No Wasim akrm , no Lee , no bond ...
Only Macgrath is my all-time favourite bowler
I love u all
Best bowler of all time.. not in indian soil though
I can't believe they are getting old...my childhood villains...nooo antiheroes
Ricky Ponting still looks in good enough shape to play international Cricket lol
Feeling sad.. because last time we had warne in the panel..warne vs pointing in studio
Missing warnie a lot..
I used to love watching Brett Lee and Glenn McGrath bowling together. That was a vicious partnership, especially in ODIs.
All of them at different times:
McGrath, Gillespie, Lee, Kasprowicz, Warne
Lee was best odi fast bowler. McGrath was great in both formats of cricket
Pls don't forget McGrath vs Athers in Ashes by the way 😂
it's 2000's Broad vs Warner 😅
and gillespie too.
@@ashishkumar-br7nw Lee decent in tests- good strike rate.
c. Gilchrist, b. McGrath.. that legendary stat 💛💛
Gilchrist and mcgrath both are master his field
If i had to choose my playing 11, Glenn McGrath will be my 1st pick in any conditions. Champion bowler 🔥🔥🔥
Damn straight. His numbers against the greats and best bastman of opponents team is stunning. Plus in ODI 3 world cups win and each 18 plus wickets and all time odi World Cup record. most probably the greatest match winning bowler.
Dale steyn would be mine
Wasim akram 🤔
Sachin probably
Cricket's version of a Rolls Royce - Glenn McGrath.
Rare to see modern day bowlers with such a low bowling average. McGrath averaging 21 and being as effective in India, England etc as he was back home here in Australia. Champion bowler.
His line, length, and consistency were absolutely impeccable. Never relied on pure pace so his performance didn’t degrade over time as he got older. All of which is to say that you are absolutely right
Best fast Bowler ever in all conditions.
@@kelli2783good bounce cos of his height. Tall man.
Never knew Punter and Pidge could smile 😂 very different to how they were on the field. What legends. Integral parts of arguably the greatest test side.
Statistically are the greatest of all time.
Probably the greatest ODI team ever no doubt. But for tests, 2009-2013 England is better than peak Australia 🤷
@@Stokesyyy84well, Mitchell Johnson has other ideas 😂
@@Bobby-ri4dd ah haha 3-1 in Australia 2010/11 . What did Johnson do in that series 😂? He couldn't even draw the series at home , got hammered entire series 🤣.
@@Stokesyyy84 I'm talkin' about winter ashes 2013, mate! where he ended few of your poms careers in a bitter fashion😝
Ponting @ 02:08 should I go to slip? 😂😂😂
Punter and Pidge - two legends of the game! Really enjoyed Punter’s analysis and commentary this Ashes, always brings great insights
Glenn McGrath: closest to bowling perfection.
The way Ponting handled the repositioning of the sheet of paper was a masterclass.
Other way mate
Masterclass in manners from ricky ponting.........never thought that'd happen haha
It's so good to see the camaraderie in spite of the fiercest rivalry in sport. A hard game played by gentlemen ... and vice versa.
Two of the greatest cricketers in history. I miss players like McGrath and Ponting. I think the one I miss seeing play the most is Shane Warne 😔
Gilchrist for me. Astonishing keeper bat. Averaged over 50 during his prime.
I too miss their cheating.
@@InvinciblePepethey didn't make you miss their world cup victory so they won one recently just for you

The Sky cricket offering stands alone as the highest quality sports coverage going
McGrath & Warne, Wasim & Waqar, Walsh & Ambrose, Pollock & Donald, Broad & Anderson....some of the memorable pairs of modern cricket.
Wow that’s some legendary names
What about Ashoke Dinda & Vinay Kumar
@@wyomingar who?
Include harbhajan and kumble too
@@naveensharma2509 no way!
Growing up watching warnie and glen dominate teams for fun. Watching the replay of them walking off the pitch together got me in a emotional wreck! My favourite bowlers of all time!
State of you
This is incredible, but still completely incomplete without Shane Warne. Will never not miss that guy! Legend.
I’m old enough to remember Ritchie Benaud on the BBC and the halcyon days of free cricket but seriously Sky have saved cricket. The coverage, the guys, the masterclasses, the insights. Just amazing. Thank you.
What about mark Nicholas. He's my fav commentator
Line and length is important but they over simplified McGraths bowling.
Even if you could predict the length and go after him he would have the seam and some swing to get you out.
Ian Ward can’t believe his luck, getting to work on TV with some genuine cricket royalty (and Athers).
Fascinating thing for me here is the subtle psychology of top level pros trying to manipulate the opponent into playing how they want.
