Peavey 6505 Mini Head - How Does It Hold Up?

  • Here is my amp shootout between the Peavey 6505+, and the Peavey 6505 MH to find out if the Mini 6505 holds up against the full sized head.
    All amp sounds are completely raw, and unprocessed. My signal chain is from my schecter C-7 Damien Platinum, to the 6505, into my Two Notes Captor X, and straight into my DAW

    This is where the transformer makes all the difference in the world, the mh lacks bottom end compared to its big brother. Not bad sounding at all but the mh is not the 6505+ big head by any means, but playing the big head at home without having a wife crisis or an eviction notice is also a problem without an attenuator, that will kill all the low end anyway, so ... both have their uses! :)

      Is there a way to add low end through a pedal or EQ? Or does it get muddy?

    Very useful & well put to gather video. Answers a lot of questions. Would be interesting to see how some of the 1 & 5 watt heads compare. When you put them in the mix, you need to ask how much you will notice the difference.

      I'm so glad this was helpful! I might delve into those amps down the road some time.

    Sounds really good, could add some extra low end in the daw to make it Sound bigger like you said 👍

      Considering most mini heads have pretty clean FX loop on it, throw in an EQ and get the tonal versatility that you seek. I have 3 mini heads, I play at home - not going back to 50/100 watt heads anymore and they sound just vicious and aggressive like their bigger brothers. The only 100 watt amp I'd get perhaps is a JVM410H. I loved that beast!

      adjust the eq in post just barely, or just add more bass guitar to the song, and i bet the results from a blind A/B comparison would be 50/50

    Wow. I Wasn't expecting the mini to sound that close to the full size. Yeah it wasn't exact, but same profile basically. Sick Damien platinum! That thing is sooooo extra haha. Have you looked into the 7 and 8 string omen Elites yet?

      The mini definitely held its own forsure! The Damien platinum has been an awesome guitar! I love that thing.
      And I haven't checked out the omen series yet. Though the blue color that they come in might get me to look further into them 😎
      Thank you so much for watching!

    Hi, what DynIR you used in Two Notes Captor X, and mic settings? I own few Two Notes hardware so to me its also interesting to know how that effected to the sound.

      Hello! I was either using the Engl 4x12 with vintage 30s that comes stock with the torpedo, or it was the Modern Standard IR from Christian khollers pack through Bogren Digital. Im pretty sure that was also using vintage 30s, but is most likely a Mesa Boogie 4x12.
      Thank you so much for watching!! 🙂

    What would be a reasonable ballpark price for the 6505MH 112 combo second hand?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  2 роки тому

      I've seen these go brand new for about $719. So for a second hand one I myself probably wouldn't pay more than $650 at the very most, and thats pushing it just because of the reasonable price of a brand new one being only around low 700s. Though its looking like they are hard to come by at the moment with the supply and demand issues the world is having.
      But for me personally no more than $650.
      Hope this helps, thank you for watching!

    If you add a OD booster do you max the tone and volume?

      I haven't had a chance to run an Overdrive pedal through it, but with the TS808 tube screamer it does great with! And this little guy gets loud and can keep up with a drummer no problem. When I hit around level 9 it hits the top of its head room.
      Hope this was helpful, thank you for watching!

    Does the speaker emulated outputs allow you to load your own IRs or are you stuck with the one peavey loaded into it?

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  2 роки тому +2

      Unfortunately you are stuck with what peavey has loaded into the unit. But if you have an ir loader like a two notes captor x you have alot more flexibility!

    how reliable is this mini head ? I watched other reviewer experiencing this amp's broken after days or weeks of usage

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  2 роки тому +2

      I've had it for a good while now, and so far so good. I haven't had any issues yet. I'd say it's pretty ok on reliability.
