Dodge Dart 2013 First Test Drive Review with Elizabeth Kreft by RoadflyTV
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 кві 2012
- The new 2013 Dodge Dart is entering a very competitive segment -- the compact car segment. RoadflyTV host Elizabeth Kreft spent a few days in Austin, TX getting to know the new Dart.
Our test car came with the Limited package. So we had all the creature comforts like the large center screen with navigation and other information. It also meant our car had the fantastically huge 8.5" center navigation and multimedia information screen.
This segment of RoadflyTV offers a first test drive review of the all new Dodge Dart. We'll have a full car review available in about a month.
Interviews include: Richard Cox, Director Dodge Brand and Joe Dehner, Director Exterior Design at Dodge.
Host: Elizabeth Kreft
Vehicle: 2013 Dodge Dart
Trim package: Limited
Engine: 1.4 liter, turbocharged i4 multi air engine
Transmission: 6-speed manual
Fuel efficiency: 27 MPG City / 39 MPG Highway
Architecture: Based on Fiat Alfa Romeo Giulietta
We also spent a few minutes with Matt Liddane of Dodge's Chrysler group earlier in the year and asked him a few questions about the Dodge Dart. Watch the video here: • Dodge Dart at the DC A...

We had audio problems so we had to use the on-board mic as opposed to Elizabeth's mic. The car might be one of the quietest in the class but you'd never know it due to our mic problems.

Good stuff. The review is great too.
wow that footage at night time from the rear as it goes across the bridge truly looks amazing, the taillight section makes it really stand out and unmistakably a Dodge, even more so at night as we can see as it is all glowing red in the dark. fantastic !
I remember when my parents had one of the old ones. A great car that was reliable was the 1974 Dodge Dart. I like the idea that they brought it back.
What a beauty ! Wish I had one !!! I finally got an SXT, love it !!
niiice coverage Elizabeth.
Looking forward to seeing the full review of the Dart. Good first look though. Thanks, Elizabeth :)
That was fun!
It's a blast to drive, corners better than the Accord, Cruz, and Focus. A little turbo lag right at the beginning for the 1.4l but at about 2500 rpm it kicks in and you take off. Lots of torque all the way through all 6 gears in the standard. It also has the most room of all the cars in the compact segment. Check out the glove box, it's huge. Safety: only compact with 10 air bags, blind spot monitoring, and cross path detection that come STANDARD, not upgrades.
one of the few reviewer on roadfly who showed passionate in doing the review.
thanks for the information I appreciate. Lately I been looking at the 2005-06 Acura TL what you think of that car? is it faster? worth it? better?
What is it with Austin? We always have issues with our wireless miss in that town.
dodge did a great job designing the srt line up through out its history. the neon srt4 had an aggressive exterior. the caliber srt4 looked aggressive too. can't wait to see how this one will come out!
i narrowed it dwn to 3 cars...2012 vw jetta, 2012 chevy cruze, and the 2012 kia forte..your personal preference would really help. thanks
This firstlook review was good, thanks Elizabeth. The car does look a little...plain but its not awful (it looks better than the caliber) more smooth and minimal than too much for the eye. For a Limited, I agree. Could use more soft material/maybe different dash console color as well. Good job Dodge/roadfly!
Great review. I'm glad to see that Dodge is stepping up their interiors with soft plastics. Though not doing the same to the lower dash is a little disappointing, this is still a welcomed change.
Where did you get the fuel economy ratings from? It's not even on the website yet.
Thanks!
Can you drive a manual? Have you test driven any of them? Are you two top priorities those above: best car for the price? Do you have those three dealers around? Researched incentives or average transaction prices? Ever dealt with the sales experience before?
Nice work there Kreft! I still dig ya :) Carry on...
How would you know? Have you owned or driven either of them?
I have. I even park next to a Neon and compare side by side.
Hey, Elizabeth! I love that cameo you made from Roman's (TFLcar) video...simply cute.
This is looking pretty good.
great car
is the 2012 KIA optima better and faster then the 2013 dodge dart and the 2009-10 mazda6? what are the up and downs of these 3 cars? which one is better honestly? please give me all the information I'm looking forward on buying a car very soon.
And what previous Dodge vehicle are we comparing this to?
Thanks for that. I wish we had time to socialize on these car trips. We get in and get out very quickly and the entire time we're with the car manufacturer launch teams.
-Charlie@RoadflyTV
how is it
SO CUTE! oh and the car is cool too!
You expressed my feelings exactly when I heard the name they attached to this neon replacement.
i actually do, im on the highway alot but i still want this car too
The Rallye version has a lot more sporty trim and plenty more black accents. Our test car was the Limited version which is basically the luxury version.

full video review in one month? anyone know where i can find that?
I own the 2013 dodge dart and it is an amazing can I have the 1.4 turbo and you can feel the horse power in it
very casual video I liked it ,"wonder how Top Gear will rate it.
i saw on a website they were supposed to build an srt-4 dart. it was to have 300hp and all wheel drive. hope they build it!!!!!
Amen brother !!!!
when will be available Dart SRT?
I had a 2000 Neon and I now have the 2013 Dart. There is no comparison.
I agree the Dodge Dart was a much better engineered sedan than the Neon!
Yeah, not to mention the old Dart seated 6 adults, compared to the 2+2 cars we have nowadays.... I drive a '80 box car and love every inch of it :)
Where's this full review? It's been over 4 months!
Possibly. I've been hearing weird rumors that point to weird engine choices for the SRT-4. I don't doubt it will compete very well with the other front drivers
Late availability per the website (maybe fall of this year?)
they "borrowed" the taillight design from the Charger? are they gonna give it back?
I'm so glad they resurrected the Dart name. I owned a 67 Dart & I've test driven a 2013 Rallye. The Rallye is worthy of the Dart name. Mine had a 318 V8, the Rallye I drove with the 1.4 Turbo would trash it. Handling was superb as well.
Is this car good for a first car?
From what I've read there is a good chance that any Dart SRT-4 will be either a late 2013 or 2014 Model.
Any word on a hatch back version???
the real question is how long will it last?
Omfg. I can't be happier to have this as a dodge avenger replacement. It looks sooo nice.
I had my neon for 10 years and the only things I replaced were the battery and the tires.
Allergies guys! I've always had a low, deep voice but the spring allergies were kicking my butt and making it a little tough to talk :)
But will it make it to 100k before it falls apart?
Nice car. I think they have a winner on their hands with this one. It should be interesting to see what else Chrysler can do with this chassis.
Will there ever be a hatchback?
Perhaps you should search that also, the 2002 intrepid R/T had 244HP not 290.
Krefty is very slick with the date question. Notice how the guy kept his ring finger covered? Lol
as the new SRT4??
The first mass produced Dart dates from 1960; low price mid range. The more popular Darts from '62 and on were cheap compact six bangers. Which original do you refer too?
Unless you refer to the Dart show car from '56, I think this car is a perfect successor for the latter...
Well thanks.
The original Dart was a slant 6 economy car. They made some Dart swingers with v8's but that'd be like the equivalent of an 2013 SRT Dart. So the overwhelming majority of Dart's were econoboxes but no one seems to realize this.
is there going to be a demon package?
isn't the ford taurus like 29K? seems a lot more upscale than the dart
They keep talking about the 2.4 engines. It's been a year now, where is it ??
That actually made me laugh :D
HP only matters to people who read stat sheets and don't get out on the road. And what exactly is trying to compete? Either it competes, or it doesn't. A GTI could be "trying" to compete with a corvette, but does that mean anything?
Much better than everything in its segment
Elizabeth what's your daily driver?
Soft touch materials make for a much more upscale feeling interior in a vehicle. In vehicles like a Jeep it wouldn't be necessary but in most other applications a soft touch dash and door trims are nice. Think how nasty a MBZ S Class would look and feel inside if it were hard to the touch.
I had a 95 red Neon. I think what makes them look similar are:
The overall shape,
The tiny Dodge grill, makes it very similar,
The rear window shape like its just cut off like in the 95, that looks really similar,
The seat shape,
The HP and price, but I think itll do better. I think people should give it a try.
Its saying "Hi" again :)
I would love to see an Srt version of this or something with at least like 220 horsepower, because this car is in WRC i would hope for like a 2.0 turbo that would be the only way i could give this car a second look.
i build these and when they first came down the assembly line i was like wtf these are awful, now after seeing the different models and knowing its something i helped build i want one really bad haha
I refer to all the originals, because they were made with good quality steel and produced right here in america.
this is going to be my first car paid full in cash :]
Nice that they offer a six speed.
if you are getting a turbo you want the performance over the gas mileage. It is trying to compete with likes of the ford st, golf gti and mazda speed3
i've driven this car.. i'm buying this car.. it's fun to drive, enjoyable to drive.. nothing wrong with it
I agree! This def. would be my #1 choice!!! I love it! and btw you dont have to feel old, ive seen 35-40 years old driving Civic Si's and no body gives a shit! :)
If the Dart is based on the Giulietta it would be a great car to drive. And the 1.4 Multiair rocks. It doesn't consum a lot and has A LOT of torque. From the shown engines I would definitely go for the Multi air option :) The engines are one of the best parts in Fiat
Yep. Rear is massively redesigned, rest is FIAT (Alfa)
1:26 "EPA fuel rating" But the EPA hasn't published anything yet as far as I can tell.
TwistedSpeech - enjoy driving your Leaf 60 miles at a time. Most folks like me need way more range than that. Hey Kreft - nice job. Can u guys review the most powerful Dart please?
something about it's headlights say "neon" to me
I have to agree with her estimation of the interior. It is rather jarring to see the softer touch materials up top with the clearly harder cheaper looking plastics at the bottom. Those seats look and probably feel great. Overall, I think Dodge put together a good looking car. Looking forward to the full review.
Yea I agree! American automakers are really stepping it up and even delivering better cars than some of the Japanese
I'm on the verge of buying one from my local dealer; its a SXT Rallye turbo with tax and all dealer fees its at 23k CDN.
im a 18 yr old college student looking to get the best/reasonably priced new 2012-2013 compact car...this being manufatured by chrysler is a minus for me because my dad has a 2000 chrysler 300 and its having some problems...yea ik its a 2000 300 but me being young n all i need a really reliable because itll b a while till i purchase my second car and American cars arent known for reliability...i dnt wanna have to start pouring money into the car after 20k miles....
а сколько он будет стоить?
where is my full review?
You know what, I was car shopping in that price range last month and as a car guys, Im ashamed to say that I completely forgot about the Dart, at least to check it out.....when were you in Austin? We could of hung out on 6th street
Nice Alfa
I think Elizabeth was trying to ask out Richard at 4:16
This looks somewhat like a focus. The problem with the dart is that it doesn't stand out to me at least, as a substantial game changer. It falls in quietly with other compacts. Dodge needs to up their game in terms of design.
I know. After I made my comment,I thought about the slant six.Still,it was a rear drive platform with V8 power as an option.By comparison, the challenger evokes thoughts of the classic car.Not so on this one IMO.
nice to have alot of options, colours, wheels ect. You can have it anyway you want it. And it won't be like your neighbours.
I just bought of these
26k is probably with every options, the base price is around 17k I think. If you're not too greedy for options you can get it for about 22-23k after taxes.
i just want the base model
The Fiat Dart. How long til that Head gasket blows?
The best car iv seen in years this is the next Kcar for Chrysler i wish the best of luck for Chrysler on this one
