Just to be clear no hate on the Dart! I don't think it's a bad car at all and don't mind the look of some of them, just wrong car at the wrong time with the flaws I mentioned
max F so you’ve never owned one, just test drove it? Must’ve been a really shitty test drive to realize it had all those problems from driving it once. The car has its issues and little quirks that make it annoying sometimes, but I’ve had one for over a year that I got with 48,000 miles and put 20,000 miles on it with not one single problem. (Knock on wood) For the price that I got it for, the Dodge Dart is a fantastic and reliable car. There’s no other car that I could’ve bought for the price I did with the miles it had. I realize it had a terrible resale value, but for the reliability, and dependability I’ve had the last year I feel that I’ve gotten a great deal. Btw I have a 2013 SE with the 6 speed manual transmission.
Neon had a bad rap, right before it came out the new CEO at the time had them change the head gasket for one that cost $5.00 cheaper and it caused them all to have serious head gasket issues. You want to talk about a tainted image lol
When it came out I said they would be better off just naming it the NEON it would probably sell better being product so much more recent and I even still seen some in fairly recent years. I did find the dart an attractive car. But I wouldn't buy it due to the reliability issue that the campany has and the efficiency of the higher trim engines.
I had a 2015 raylle edition but I ended up loosing it due to a car accident that resulted in me getting T boned by an f150 with a lift kit moral of the story that car saved my life
I have the same car! I also got t-boned and stupid insurance never totaled my car like they should have. now im driving around a car with structural damage! They paid 5.5K worth of damage and my car is only worth 6K! Unbelievable .
I just grabbed a 2015 ralleye ..i llvr everything about it except how loud the road noise is on highways and all the negative reviews scare me lol what to do im on a 15 warranty
I bought a 2013 Rallye and was super disappointed that they were discontinued. This little car while under powered with the 2.0 has been amazing. It's got 178,000 miles, and has only needed basic maintenance done. Still gets 30mpg. I couldn't be happier with how this car has run. It has served it's purpose well in being a commuter car.
ralphinator2 wouldn’t have looked the same. And avenger is worse than neon. That’s why the 200 got a bad rep. The name From the old 200. They definitely needed a new name. No caliber neon or avenge e
2015 Dart owner; I'm at 80K and it hasn't let me down, but I've also done a lot of work myself and kept up with maintenance. I haven't found another car that fits my liking by features and internals. I don't regret my purchase, but I have felt very uneasy since it was discontinued. I chose the GT trim to get the 2.4L engine and avoid the DDC-Transmission which seemed to be causing a lot of problems for people. From the day I bought it to current day, I always answered people that I wouldn't recommend the car when asked, but that it fits me perfectly. I know that sounds odd, but it's hard to explain.
The car was rushed for stupid stock options. I had a 2014 2.4 auto. The car had some serious punch low RPM and was very reliable. My only issue with the car was blowing tires left and right in shitty Michigan roads.
I was driving down my street a few months ago and I saw one of these sitting in the middle of the street with its flashers on, had to get out and help a lady push it out of the way of traffic. Sounded like the transmission went out, it would rev up but not move an inch. Couldn't believe I had to get out of my 18 year old van to push a 4 year old car lol.
I love my dart. 155k miles on it and still runs like a champ. Only repairs so far have been the motor mounts and struts. Just keep up with your routine maintenance is all I can say
I highly recommend you put your VIN number into a auto recall website. There are MAJOR safety issues with the transmission. The dart can literally take off without warning. Recall repairs are free. I've had 3 recalls and have almost been killed by my dart. not to mention a long list of other electrical issues.
Totally agree with you I got a 2013 rallye SXT only thing I had a basically do was the oil sensor switch everything else has been top-notch with the proper maintenance
We have a 2016 Dart and it is quick and nice handling. It is dependable and comfortable. I even enjoy driving it when my wife and I go out. It is sad they stopped the production and it will be missed.
I have a 2016 Dart GT with the 6 speed and the 2.4 motor. Love the car. Never had any issues other than typical oil, tires, etc. bought it in 2017 brand new, now it has 43,000 miles. Still no huge issues.
Adam Wolfe I have a 2.0 and it’s a good car just slow as all get out. If they’d given these cars a real engine to make decent power they would’ve been great.
I agree. I have a loaded 2016 Rallye version and I love the car. It has just over 35 k and not a single problem with the car yet. Its that classic Dodge Red and it's a fun car to drive. I commute about 35 miles each way to work and its been a great car so far.
I really wanted a Dart when they came out. They look amazing and the features on it were impressive. Also seemed like a reasonable car to have. I feel Sergio is to blame for the death of two could have been great cars. The Dart and the new 200. He didn't seem to give them a chance and an SRT4 would have made people pay more attention.
I have an orange dart GT and it’s beautiful - It runs so smooth and has a ton of pick up. With alpine speakers too... it’s probably the best car I’ve ever had.
Thanks for a very informative explanation of just "what happened" to the Dodge Dart 2013-2016? Personally speaking I like my 2014 Dodge Dart SXT with its 2.4 Multiair engine! The Dodge Dart was and is a well engineered compact sedan when compared to the 1995-2005 Dodge Neon. Unfortunately the Dodge Dart was the wrong manufacturer to build a new compact sedan at the wrong time in the automotive consumer market! With continuous low gasoline prices & low interest rates the Big 3 continue to sell SUVs & Big trucks primary because of bigger profits! Hence the Chevy Cruze, & Ford Focus have followed suit! l, myself, prefer sedans in the C-segment, i.e. like the Dodge Dart, & older Dodge Neons, etc.. I absolutely enjoy my Dodge Dart as it rides well and it's plenty fast and quiet in the cabin! If you are looking for a well built sedan with great styling then I recommend that you look at a Dart as there are still many great deals out there on the Dart!
I currently own a dart, and I won't deny any of the information provided isn't true, but personally I love my car. Since I'm a student and work at the same time, it satisfied having a semi-sporty look and also being opted out enough that I enjoy driving it daily. I also got it at the time because it wasn't a super common vehicle. I drive to town about 2 - 3 times a day and only fuel up about every week and a half to two weeks. Of course, this varies given circumstances. I bought it used at 34000 miles, and haven't had any demanding issues thus far. Overall, I'm happy with the car. Perhaps my only gripe is how low it sits.
I share a similar story to yours. 2013 Rallye here. Purchased in 2015. I've loved every minute with her but she is starting to fall apart. The wiper blades start turning on when the turn signal is engaged, the radio occasionally takes a vacation, the blutooth stopped working about a year ago, and as of yesterday the reverse lockout cable broke rendering her incapable of going backwards. Granted, these are all relatively minor issues and none of them have caused me to love her any less. However, I am beginning to worry about what the immediate future now holds.
@@nossjsjajsjs2957 About to hit 85k. Wiper blade control switch had to be replaced because the blades would not stop. Interior dome lights not working, although no real big issue. Back up camera is on the fritz, works when it wants. There is an unusual rumble under the car when accelerating too fast. The sensor for tire air pressure has failed. Still too months of payments remaining. Im about ready to give up lol
2013 Dart Aero has been almost flawless for 10 1/2 years and 156k miles. Only issue other than normal maintenance was a Uconnect module that went bad while under warranty. Been a great car.
I had a 2013 Dodge Dart Rally for 4 years , bought used and put over 70,000 miles on it, never gave me one issue. Great car, looked a lot faster than it was , but it was fun to drive nonetheless and reliable. I traded it in for my Dream car a JL Jeep
In May 2014, FCA originally set their sights on the SRT-4 Dart being an AWD car with a 300 hp turbo 2.0L I4 dubbed the "Hurricane" engine. Over the next few months, word got out that were problems with the engine and production, along with the likelihood it would not reach the 300 hp mark. Then about a year later Dodge inexplicably removed the Dart from the planned SRT lineup, slapping the GLH tag on the vehicle instead, and stating it would have roughly the same power as the original SRT-4, 220 hp, and FWD instead. FCA basically saw the market for AWD vehicles drop sharply, and with the idea of a 30,000 dollar AWD SRT Dart failing to sell, word is they retooled the entire idea of what the vehicle would be. While the GLH moniker is a nod to the FWD Mopar days of old, with the Omni GLH (or GLH-S), it was a major disappointment for SRT fans who wanted another SRT-4, both in the idea of using the wrong name, and that the HP output would be so much lower. Everything was pushed back to late 2017 (as stated in late 2015). Then in January 2016, rumors abound that the Dart and Chrysler 200 would possibly be axed to "make room to expand production of Jeep and Ram models". In September of 2016, FCA officials confirmed that production of the Dart would halt at the end of that month. So what exactly happened that sunk the Dart? Nearly every publication covering the Dart before launch in 2012 raved about the exterior looks, the configurable dash display, and many other innovative features. But FCA botched the launch, the nine-speed ZF auto transmission wasn't ready in time for the Dart's arrival, forcing the use of a Hyundai six-speed and Fiat dual-clutch auto at the last minute. To make matters worse, none of them were ready for the Dart's arrival, so for the first several months there were only manual "stick shift" Darts, which many customers weren't able to test drive, even if they wanted to. Not surprisingly, sales figures were drastically affected, only 25k Darts were sold in 2012. To put this into perspective, Dodge averaged sales of about 150k Neons per year from 1994 to 2005, the final full year of production. Considering the damage that the Caliber had already done to Dodge's "small car" reputation, it was not surprising to see the launch issues cause major problems for the Dart. Even so, they were able to increase sales to over 80k for 3 years in a row. FCA did not upgrade the Dart to keep on track with other manufacturers, and offered no incentives to entice people to buy the car. That combined with an oversaturated small car market led to major sales reductions in 2015, fewer than 45k Darts were sold (less than half of the previous year). The demise of the dart had far more to do with the failure to keep the model up with competitors (both technologically and price wise) than it did with any quality or build issues. So what of any SRT-4, or even a small car from Dodge/Chrysler now? Well, there was a rumor going around for some time that there would be a new small Dodge built on the Alfa Romeo Giula platform. However, nothing has been talked about in that respect for at least a year now. FCA seems squarely focused on Ram trucks, Jeeps, and the full size car market, the only available info is again, rumor, with a Chrysler 100, or "Newport" possibly in the works by 2022, on the GM Fiat SUSW platform. But even if that happened, the only source engine available would be a standard 1.4L turbo, an engine that has built a terrible reputation for being gutless and unreliable. As an owner of a 2005 SRT-4, this is all frustrating to see. The Shadow/Sundance and Neon sold like crazy. Then DaimlerChrysler screwed up big time with the Caliber. The Dart started things back in the right direction for FCA, but again, innovation blew right on past them, and the Dart died too. Considering how much money Ford and Chevy make from their small cars (Focus/Cruz respectively) it is really sad that FCA can't seem to jump start anything in that market worth a hoot.
Roo H Yeah I was hoping the Dart would be good, but the 2 major things that I knew were it’s downfall was the unreliable transmission and the “acceptable” mpg compared to other compact cars.
I have a 2016 dart sedan 2.0 eng. no problem with gas mileage. It gets about 41 mpg.on a trip and 32 in town. Have had it for 5 yrs.no problems love this car.
220 hp would have been ok for that size of car. It would have been nice to see the GLH name again. The styling was better than other cars like it. They rushed this car and made too many mistakes.
It actually was a class leader in many things during its time, things Like technology or power, no one in 2012 had an 8 inch screen or 184 hp and its trunk size and interior room was much greater than other mid sized sedans
didn't the honda k engines make 200hp? the fords also had 8inc screens. the ford my touch was actually the best available at the time. it was a roomy compact car for sure tho.
@@TassieLorenzo i mean the h22 was making 200hp in the late 90s also gm had that quad4 motor in the early 90s that made 170/180hp in a bunch of shitty berretta's cavilers and grand prix. back when GM gave a shit and was putting a Supercharged v6 in every fwd car 🤣🤣
I bought a used 2016 6 speed manual turbo Dart as a daily and I love it. It's a fun little car that gets me through Houston traffic pretty well. I've owned a lot of different Dodge turbo cars in the past. Mostly the 2.2 turbos of the 80s like the Daytonas, Chargers, and the Omnis. I've always liked Dodge turbo cars. My other car is a 2016 6 speed manual Camaro SS so I was very happy to find a manual for my daily. I plan on keeping the Dart for a while and probably do a few more mods to it. Overall I'm really happy with my little Dart as my daily.
I’ve got a 1989 Daytona ES 2.5 Turbo 5spd in the garage with 81,000 waiting patiently for paint. Have had it since 1996 Bought it out of a junkyard for $1500 👍👍
I was a Chrysler engineer in the plant when the Dart launched. Some cool stories, but everything was rushed for suppliers and the Fiat sourced engineers for the engine/trans offered less technical support than I prefer. End-of-line daily issues were high, and some days there were so many they had to park the "rework" cars outside. I think the base Dart SE with the "Power tech" engine would have been fine, but it was rather bland in that trim.
I test drove three different darts hoping to find something I'd love. It was a gorgeous car but every one I drove was rough. You felt every little bump in the road. They weren't fast, which I'd expect of a car gets mileage as poor as it does, there just wasn't anything that made me want one aside from outer appearance. It was sad because I aggressively wanted one. I wound up buying a Ford Fusion which I've loved, and I've always been a Dodge fanboy. Unfortunately nothing they had in my price range appealed to me. Ultimately my choice was between the Fusion I bought, a Mazda 6, and a Kia Optima. All 3 of those cars were excellent.
@@TheSlice0flife I'm not sure if they technically are or not. They're both four-door sedans that's all I gave a shit about aside from comfort and economy.
I own a base model '13. Bought it new and drive it everyday, other than typical stuff (brakes, tires) no issues mechanically. Aerodynamics on the other hand, it doesn't handle well in windy conditions and if it's raining or snowing everything that comes over the roof collects in the center of the rear window blocking the view. Plus it's hard to see out of during shoulder checks. Otherwise I like driving it, it handles corners well and the 6 speed manual offers many torque/speed options. Not a fast car but it's power is more "usable".
Dodge is notorious for building bad transmissions. In many of their cars, they also put the exhaust and catalytic converters too close to the transmission. Heat is the number one worst enemy when it comes to transmission longevity.
That's why i passed on buying a used one recently cheap. Had a 95 cirrus for first car. Put 5k into trans including replacing the computers a dozen times
@@jamesbeehler8554 The last Dodge I owned was a 1996 Intrepid. I bought it new and did all the scheduled maintenance. The transmission started to go at 85,000 miles. I spent $600 to replace the computer, and it didn't help. The dealer then wanted $3,000 for a rebuilt transmission. I went next door to the Acura dealership and bought a new 2004 TL Type S, and I'm still driving it.
My 2001 RAM 2500 with V10 magnum agrees with this statement lol. It’s on its 5th transmission lol. That V10 eats transmissions for breakfast. Still a Dodge fan. Just got to be weary of some of FCA’s bs.
Just junked a Dodge Stratus. Catalytic Converter failed and the price to get a new one was way out of budget for the price of the car. Not to mention other problems with it overheating
I had a 2014 Dart GT and it was my first manual car. I bought it used with 18k miles on it and after I bought it I found a receipt for a new clutch at 3k miles. I had a lot of electrical issues with mine with interior lights and the screen just randomly going off. It wasn’t a easy car to learn stick on either as I was still stalling a year after I bought it. Wasn’t a fan of the car but I loved the looks. I since upgraded to a 2017 Ford Fiesta ST and it was the best upgrade I could have did for my age that is.
@-TheManInDboX - the ACR's were rare but not the RT's. They sold a ton of them. I had a 98 rt coup that I used to beat the snot out of. I ended up trading it for 1Ga DSM Eclipse. My neon was dead reliable. I'm 5k in with the DSM in just standard maintenance neglected by the previous owner😡😡....smh not my best decision😔😔
I drove the Dart and the Chrysler 200. Both cars looked ok, however the performance was an issue. There was too much of a Delay with the Dart when accelerating. And when it comes to the Chrysler 200, the car had the 9 speed transmission. The trans sounded good on paper, however when driving it seamed like the transmission has troubled with the gears when driving in town. It didn't know what gear it needed to be in around town.
TJD you can adjust the waste gate on the dart with the turbo to do away with the lag. The turbo power only comes in around 2.5k Rpm. The 200 just has a horrible transmission.
@@seed_drill7135 ..wasn't there a tv show called, 'eight is enough' ? lol. funny thing is..the pacifica is selling like hotcakes..has the 3.6L and a 9 spd (they're frikin fast!) and nobody is complaining? maybe bc pacifica buyers arent beating the crap out of them..could be.
I own a 2013 Dodge Dart sxt with the dual dry clutch automatic. I bought it used with 89,000 km on it, now there is 168,000 km on it now. I’ve been asked to sell it numerous times and I will never sell it. It is one of the best cars I’ve ever owned. It was only this year that I had to put any large amount of money into it for maintenance. The engine is the 2.0 tiger shark and no issues with it.
Never had a problem with my 13' rallye . Not even a light bulb changed yet. Piss on a lot of civics and the other types. 50k on it now. I average 28-38 or better on mpg. I've driven the company civic on Running errands for the company and the civic is lazy on turns and bends. I wouldn't have known about the civics poor handling if it wasn't for the village bicycle we have at work to run errands with by the way, its a 2015 civic.
If you own a Dart and want an actual community of people to talk to, join DartsofMerica on Facebook. Over 4K people on it. Has yearly Midwest meets as well
This year was the final year of Midwest hosted by Alan Yoho at least. And that page has (or at least had) admins and mods that were very harsh over the dumbest things, at least as said to the PNWDart group I'm in lol. There's also Darts Across the US
Almost bought a brand new dart but bought a used challenger instead. I also drive a 2015 chrysler 200 S and love it. It does have the weird transmission kick between 4th and 5th gear but love the power of the 3.6 V6 in a small car.
MyMoparsToo Me too I love my 200C 3.6. And yes mines have the 4th to 5th jerk as well but I think mines is worse in the world 😂😂😂 but I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
@@Natethegreat200c yeah, too bad Dodge, FCA isn't making sporty family mid-size or sub compact sedans. I guess they are gearing up for some electric models in 2022. We will see.
It was a waste selling a decent car like this to Americans, a people with no class and poor taste in cars. Anywhere else in the world, the manual trans would outsell automatic 10 to 1..
A car fun to drive with Alfa DNA, I'm in. The 1.4T is a fun little engine too. But the car has a really bad reputation for reliability, and how the hell did they expect such high sales with a car with such big flaws in such a short amount of time?
I personally think it was a big mistake not selling the Dart in Latin America. If the price was right I’m sure they would’ve sold lots of them. Here in Peru, for example, compact cars still outsell crossovers so it’s not like there’s not a market for compact cars anymore.
Unfortunately lot of the new generation doesn’t even know what stick shift is so when this came to the market it failed miserably. This definitely win out of country tho
I tried to learn stick shift and it was the most overrated stressful thing ever. I was so excited but there was no joy just stress. Pissed me off so much and I totally get why the vast majority of people dont buy them.
Jake Hancock it’s far easier to repair a manual transmission. they don’t overheat or shift poorly based on heat. no clutch packs to burn out. far fewer sensors makes labor and parts significantly lower. plus modern clutches are quick to engage even in the winter. tigershark engine’s automatic transmissions are notoriously bad so the manual transmission is leagues better
@@fromstarlighttosunrise128 I agree, but how is an american supposed to shift gears when that hand is occupied with a big fat cheeseburger? Oh I'm sorry that was offensive, I forgot cheeseburger lives matter.
That's true! sit in automatic car is not drive, the real drive is in manual, you feel the engine, you feel the power, you feel the speed in every change of gear, hate me for that but is the true...

I test drove one, and drove it just a couple of miles. I stopped at a supermarket, and was going to swap positions with the missus, and have her drive it back to the dealership. When I opened the drivers side door, the ENTIRE door lock assembly fell, in pieces, to the bottom of the door. I had NO ability to even close the door at that point. So...I had to HOLD the door closed, while I drove it back. The salesman's response? "I guess you're not going to buy it then." Well..no shit. Literally just opening the door, and it fell apart.
@@dennissvitak148 As funny as that story sounds, I really doubt the Legitimacy of that. Seems just a bit to far fetched that the lock assembly just "fell off".

I've driven a few Darts and I really like them. I almost bought one, but it was an early production model and it felt cheap and the headlight switch came off in my hand, if it wasn't for that I would have bought it as it was much more comfortable than the competition and way more fun to drive
i love the Dart even more than i already did, after viewing this video of her 'major issues'. lol. main one being it didn't have the enormous markup up her competitors. as well..'too many options/configurations'. you mean like the good 'ol days! frik yeah, just like BK! Have it your way! not..'gee, if i want a wing on the back, i have to give up the 8 spkr audio', like brand x does to ppl, lol. and 3rd..'too heavy'. sorry if Dodge values the lives of her customers more than 2 lousy MP fukkin G. gimme that 10% weight 'penalty' every time
I always thought the dart was a good and fun looking yet efficient car. I did think it had way too many electronic safety features (probably contributed to its excess heft) though. Hearing a number of issues with the 4 cylinder and 9-speed combo (from the 200 and cherokee), its a good thing they didnt put the 9 -speed in the dart.
Yea I have one too, I share it with my roommate and absolutely hate it. Some Mexican dude had put an intake and a blow off valve on it and I dont have the money to upgrade it more so now mine just sounds like some poser car and isn't even fast. Its embarrassing but oh no my roommate just HAD to have a fucking manual even though we live in Utah which is the worst god damn place on earth to drive stick and neither of us wanted to pay like 16k for a golf GTI. I tried to tell him this thing was like the lowest rated car in existence lol. We have owned it one year and sure enough its been complete ass. Bought it at 42k miles for 8700 bucks. Seemed like a great deal. Welp now we've paid 1800 dollars to have the valve cover gasket replaced TWICE along with all the stupid fancy overpriced sparkplug that got burned up from the oil leaking down into the cylinder. And the reverse lockout cable broke which is just asinine. The Bluetooth only works at complete random like days and weeks apart. Spending 1800 bucks in 13 months on an 8k car is horseshit. I hate mine.
Not to mention they had a major problem. The engine started eating oil way faster than it should after 50,000 miles. Before I got rid of it, I was refilling my oil once a month because of this.
As the owner of a 2015 dart Limited, I can say I love the car, Now that its discontinued dealers are trying to get them back on the lot for used cars, I was offered 13000 for my dart by the local dodge dealer as trade in on a Jeep
I agree just gt a used 2014. .less than 45 days ago n car wont come out of drive...won't reverse or nothing n of course now it wont start bcuz its stuck in DRIVE ....uughhh...hope to get my $1800 dwn payment with payment for little less than $400 per mo...piece of junk obviously....
While small cars and sedans have declining sales in the USA, they are not totally extinct. The Japanese sedans from Honda and Toyota are still very popular. Also, manual transmissions are not very popular in the USA anymore, most people drive an automatic
Love my 2015 Dart. Bought it in 2017 with 79K on it as it was a commuter car. There are only two things i am not too thrilled with and that there doesn't seems to be any normal type rims other than the low-profile style that isn't practicle for the pot-holes of New York. Also, the rough idle. According to the dealer, it is a design flaw from the factory. What I did do for the ride was to put snow tires on it this season and found that the ride was smoother and more comfortable. Nice ride. I think if Chrysler took its time and redisigned it to be what it was meant to be, they could have a real winner here. Thank you for the video.
@@unstoppable0287 After watching this video I still went out and bought a 16' Pitch black GT. 7 months later, still love the car. The car doesn't feel as heavy as they claim it to be. And an increase Throttle responder, Cat-back exhaust & Cold-air intake is an absolute must to fully enjoy this car IMO.
I had a 6 speed manual with the 1.4l multiair turbo motor. That was a great little car, would have kept it if not for trading in on my 1500 ecodiesel. That car usually averaged me 35mpg, though my truck regularly averages me 29mpg.
The Dart was a very good looking car, and it could've been a great one. But the poor decision making at the corporate level took away any chance it had.
Jose, you are exactly right in your assessment of FCA's promotional faults in 2012 regarding the Dodge Dart to the automotive consumer industry! Nonetheless the Dodge Dart, in my opinion, is relatively speaking a well engineered compact as compared to Chrysler Corporation's earlier Dodge Neon! Note: I have owned 5 Neons in the past however!
I have a 2015 Dodge Dart Rallye, it's actually an amazing car with a lot of pep. I bought it used as a lemon, it was sent back to the manufacturer because of engine overheating, but since I've gotten it there has been zero issues. It's value made it probably the best first car I could have possibly ever gotten.
My experience with the Dart I nearly bought in 2013: What I was looking for: Manual Transmission with Air Conditioning. Naturally aspirated too (because I didn't trust their brand new turbocharged "tiger" engine - and was later proven right, as the engine had a bad habit of dying prematurely). What the dealership had: 5 manual transmission Darts in black without A/C, one in Winter Chill with A/C and other things I didn't care for that cost an extra 4 grand; they were willing to give it to me for a 2k discount because they didn't want to order what I wanted. So I nearly got a loaded Dart for 21k, BUT: The head rest was designed for someone with a hunched back, as it forced my head forward too far. The engine was electronically subdued for the test drive (and could be remotely turned off from kilometres away) so I never got a good feel for the car. This led to second guesses, and caused me to check my finances for the 6th time... and I caught an error I had made 5 times previously. I backed out and ended up with a used 2005 Scion xB (5 speed with sport package) for $5800 CAD (best daily driver ever, by the way, if driven well it actually got 43-46 mpg, could carry a mattress, comfortably fit 5 adults, was bigger on the inside, and was super reliable; most models from the 2004 to 2006 range going 300k miles before needing any big repairs). Yes, I mixed metric and imperial units, but did use them accurately.
Part of it I believe has to do with the huge number of drivers and the convenience in teaching thousands of new drivers in an automatic is easier than teaching standard. For myself a standard 1.4 dart is what makes my commute a little more interesting and enjoyable.
Because automatics became standard equipment -- or, were just built with them -- starting in the 1950s. By the 1980s, you couldn't get _anything_ with an American nameplate on it that wasn't a Camaro or a pickup with a clutch. Anything at all, really. You had to buy German or Japanese. The people who built our cars gave us crap, and the people who design and run our roads want us lined up like cattle moving slowly.
I bought my wife a 2.4L dart brand new, it's been super reliable (mainly because of me lol) and the chasis could've definitely handled a SRT version. With better tires this thing gripes, been really toying with the idea of having a shop develop a supercharger for it since it's paid off. Bottom line outside of Civics& Corollas Americans don't like compact cars
Do you have any advice for me to maintain my 2016 dart ? It’s my first car and I really want to take care of it and learn how to maintain its reliability. Any advice on what to maintain, mechanic scams etc would help so much.
I bought my 2013 Rallye edition dart back in November of 2013 with 2 miles on it (2 when I test drove, 15 when I signed the papers). I am a car nerd and love car shopping. I test drove probably 15 other cars in this class from the Cruze, Elantra, carolla, and so on. I also test drove a base model before the Rallye. I did my car blog research and stayed away from the dual clutch and the multiair and have what might be considered the boring 2.0 tigershark with the Hyundai sourced 6speed auto. First off; comfort. Of all the cars I drove, this was the most comfortable, insulated, and sturdy built feeling car I was in. Base vs. Rallye, the dual exhaust sings and I love it. It handles like the mazdas I had in the past, which says a lot. Reliability; I now have just under 90k on it. I am good with maintenance and it has been pretty good. For unscheduled repairs, I had the 8inch touch screen replaced at 35k and an oil pressure sensor changed at 52k, both covered under warranty. When I heard they were cancelling the dart, I was pretty sad since I would buy another one. The other problems with the platform;. I know the 1.4 multiair were having ignition coil and oil feeding problems. The dual clutchs were jerky and people kept bashing then in car complaint blogs. For the 200, it had the 9speed auto, but it's first iteration was problem stricken (same with first year Cherokees).
January 10th, 2013 I bought a new Dodge Dart SE with 2.0 engine & 6 speed auto transmission and drove off the Dodge dealership lot. As of today, March 10th, 2019 I still have this car with over 304,000 miles. I plan on having a 1/3 of a million miles by the end of this year. The car has had some issues as most vehicles do, but for the time that I’ve owned it and the mileage I’ve put on it, I’m impressed. I figure at the rate I’m going the car should have 1/2 a million miles in another few years. ThingsI would do differently would be adding driving lights, the LED light bar in back & cruise control. Maybe this particular Dart is an exception, in any event thanks Dodge.

@@kokolovitch56 yeah I didn't know much about its reputation until after I purchased (it was my first car purchase) and I was nervous for the first year or two, but I've just treated it well and haven't had any major issues
I have a 2015 sxt that was my first car that my parents screwed me over with a 10k loan on it. And by far it is the worst car I've ever had the experience of driving. I've had so many issues with the car and now I've got a problem with the keys not coming out. Moral of the story, this car is a pos and should not exist. I'd rather have an older ram or silverado. But the loan is almost paid off and soon all the money I've put into the loan would be a waste.
We bought ours new in Aug 2012, 6 months later the nightmare began. We talked to Dodge about buying it back, but they have fixed everything so far. We bought the Extended Lifetime Warranty, a blessing in disguise. This car has stranded us several times, but we keep persevering with it. As long as the Extended Lifetime Warranty keeps paying, then we will keep driving it. Once it stops, then we will sell it for parts.
@@Darksyne , Chrysler offered a lifetime warranty that you could by up to recently. I am currently replacing a engine on a 2007 nitro with 260,000 miles under the customers lifetime max care warranty. Lifetime warranty fucks me all the time.
I now own 2 of these 2013 & 2015 with the 2.0 and manual transmissions - love them and plan on driving them for a very long time. 38-42MPG constant with virtually no problems except when you hit a deer but all fixed and good. I like that they are heavy as I put on GoodYear Ultra-Grip tires for the winter - except for being low to the ground and if they get snow under them picking them up so to speak - virtually impossible to get stuck. The only comaparable I have otherwise looked @ is the Mazda 3 but very pricey in comparison. In my opinion - where these were bad were with 1.4 Italian Turbo and regardless of the transmission. 2.0/2.4 w/manual - all is good. Have driven them on some long trips - very comfortable and no complaints. Video was correct in relation to manual transmissions as to many have gotten to lazy to learn how and enjoy. More important to be playing on their phones while driving.... If I come across a 3rd one that is a 2.0/2.4 manual - I will be very tempted.
This car just reminds me of the Neon. Which I clearly never liked. Plus the name Dart for this car was just wrong. The OG Darts from 1959 to 1976 were beauties to carry that name. That's just my opinion.
@@ArbitraryOutcome that is so true when they put in the turbo charged engine which could barely move the car because it's more heavier than the Fiat itself
I have a 15 Rallye Package Dart from coming from an Expedition 4x4 with a 5.4L engine and man have my pockets appreciated the change. Bought mine with 12miles from me test driving it twice. I love my Dart and wouldn't trade it for anything! My car is a prototype where they started the eco gas but I have the 2.0 VSS and people compliment me on how great she sounds. I only had 2 issues since having it which was my cruise control panel needing to be switched out and my BT switched out and that was all within the 6k mileage and under my warranty. Great on gas I get 25-28 on the city and I live in GA and 32-34 on the highway. She currently has 91,1k miles from me driving back and forth home to Florida. I've done mods to her and everything. Next purchase after paying her off is a Durango SRT or Charger R/T.
I owned a 2013 SXT and put about 45k on it before I traded it in. It had to many problems for my comfort for the 2.5 years I had it. It wouldn't start sometimes, the gauges would malfunction, the a/c blower burned out, soft touch materials started cracking and the front suspension started clunking really bad when I went over cracks in the road. Overall it was a comfortable fuel efficient daily commuter but just really problematic. I had talked to other owners who had similar issues and traded mine as soon as I could.
I own a 2014 Dodge Dart aero with a 1.4L engine and a 6-speed dual dry clutch transmission and I bought it New when it came out in 2014. Within a year I have gone through my 4th transmission... yes this is the 4th transmission and the car has 83k miles .... I’m in the process of dodge buying it back. Stay away from a dry clutch transmission!!!
I bought my first brand new car (Dart aero) in March of 2014. I was so excited and loved it. 4 days after buying it, check engine light case on. Problems kept persisting. I’ve had three transmissions all three were covered under warranty. It got so bad that the last time I brought it to Dodge the service department paid for an oil change and gave me some free stuff. I think they felt bad that I was there almost monthly. Right now I’m in gone process of trying to get rid of it. It’s a 2014 with almost 190 thousand on miles on. I don’t know how in the world it’s still running with all the problems I’ve had. Car has been through a lot.
The GT was not the top trim.. that's the Limited. GT slots in just below it. The 2.4 was not the only engine 2014+; there was still the Aero model with the 1.4T.
I actually was really interested in the Dart when it came out. I didn’t buy it because it had gotten a reputation for bad reliability. It was one of the few semi-compact cars that was interesting and had decent space, safety scores and tech.
As someone who daily drives a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger that beats the ground and blisters the tires on command, I can attest that putting the Dart nameplate on this car is a massive let down.
I've never been a fan of Chrysler/Dodge, but I did like this car. I thought it was by far the best looking small car on the market. I remember that it created a buzz when it was first released. That buzz wore off when many of the things mentioned came to fruition. I wasn't aware of the overproduction of manual transmission cars, however. This was a boneheaded move by FCA since this cars target audience can't even drive a stick. As much as I loved the looks of this car I wouldn't have touched it with a ten foot pole. FCA's poor reliability record probably kept customers away in droves.
I own a 2016. Have had lots of heating problems. While i love the looks, it's not a reliable car I would recommend. Wish they out the time and effort into it. The looks are there!!
it's basically an alfa romeo in a dodge skin made to be usa legal except there's a reason we barely see alfa romeos in the us; they just dont work their engines are meant for premium gas for one dodge charger runs on 87 unleaded better than dodge dart can which in the user manual recommends premium 91 gas lol
In 2016 I bought a new 2015 base model for my son. Paid $11,500 before tax etc. We have only done routine maintenance. I drove it from CA to GA, literally coast to coast 41 mpg. Best vehicle purchase I ever made in terms of cost to benefit. Wish I could have bought another.
Dodge did actually experiment with this car by putting it In some rally races and I believe that if they released a rally edition I think the story of the dart would’ve been a bit different
To me, the biggest problem of the Dart was the name. In a segment where a model needs either a regular legacy name or a fresh one, an unrelated throwback was a poor choice. People that remember the original Dart either knew of the popular late 60s/early 70s models or the not-so-great mid 70s versions... and chances are they weren't shopping in this segment anyways. The new car wasn't a reflection of prior models and the resurrecting the old name came off as lazy.
I agree with you. I also didn't see that much advertisment for it. They definitely missed the mark on this car. A different name and more marketing should've been the plan
This video hit it on the nose. Bad time to bring a compact car with SUV and trucks being popular. To many options made it hard for dealers to order. Mpg isnt great as the charger did just as well. It wasnt particularly good at anything or bad at anything just didnt standout. FCA being known for bad reliability doesnt help. They should of released it with an auto and not just rushed it to production with the manual. Lastly they should of made the halo trim the SRT-4 and advertised the crap out of it.
I agree that this compact sedan most likely should have been manufactured under the "Neon" badge! At least the Neon had an already "based following" market!
I used to own one and it was a nightmare. Sometimes it wouldnt start, bluetooth screen froze, fuel door came off, AC vent fell off, made squeaky noise when going over bumps, a piece of plastic from the under carriage came loose. I now own a Toyota and never had a problem since then. I will never buy a Chrysler product again, only Japanese.
And how what does that Toyota make you feel when it understeers and squeels in corners? nothing? EXACTLY. Toyota. Average, ugly lemming car, for a average lemming like you.
Sonicc the Hedgehog Lol I’m sure this guy isn’t throwing his new Corolla or Camry around the track. Toyota is better than FCA in every category I can think of.
As has the Ford focus. Those cars hit the chopping block because the companies on a hole are stopping production of almost all their cars and are switching to producing just cross overs, SUVs, and trucks.
For the past few month's I have been taking care of my brother in law's 2013 Dodge Dart Rallye. This car really does not have much going for it. It rides very hard and every bump in the road is transmitted directly to the driver's seat. The engine really sounds powerful but the sound of the exhaust is writing checks that the engine can't cash. I find that when I get on an on-ramp to a highway I really have to stand on the accelerator to get the car to move. The trunk is rather small and the lid seems flimsy. When you close the trunk it just sounds cheap. I am not sure what material the hood is made of but the paint is bubbling on the edges. The 'all in one' multistick for the turn signals, dimmer, and wipers is cumbersome to use. The key is just annoying. It seems like Chrysler started out trying for a push button start with the key fob but just couldn't figure out how to do it. What they came up with is sort of a hybrid system where the key fog has to go into the ignition switch. It is just awkward. Overall the car is a real disappointment.
I honestly love my 2015 SXT. The racetrack is 10/10. Only problem I’ve had is the engine shutting off randomly and draining my battery. Mechanic said something wasn’t plugged in fully and it was fixed but I’ve been reading online that if the oil gets too low, it’ll shut off like that.
Just to be clear no hate on the Dart! I don't think it's a bad car at all and don't mind the look of some of them, just wrong car at the wrong time with the flaws I mentioned
Great video dude
Thanks man 👍🏽
I liked it - had Dart for 2 months (loaner). 2.0 has nice roar at cold start - much better than European 2.0s.
Marspeed Actually the dart also had a 2017 model because my mother has a 2017 Dodge dart GT
max F so you’ve never owned one, just test drove it?
They shouldve just renamed it the Neon when they made the car instead of taint the Dart heritage
Neon had a bad rap, right before it came out the new CEO at the time had them change the head gasket for one that cost $5.00 cheaper and it caused them all to have serious head gasket issues. You want to talk about a tainted image lol
The new Neon is a Fiat Tipo sold in other parts of the world.
Invoking the Neon name would have completely alienated the customer base - NOBODY would have bought one because of the headaches caused by the Neon.
When it came out I said they would be better off just naming it the NEON it would probably sell better being product so much more recent and I even still seen some in fairly recent years. I did find the dart an attractive car. But I wouldn't buy it due to the reliability issue that the campany has and the efficiency of the higher trim engines.
I am a 2013 Dart owner... and I approve your message
I had a 2015 raylle edition but I ended up loosing it due to a car accident that resulted in me getting T boned by an f150 with a lift kit moral of the story that car saved my life
here's a person that appreciates that 10% weight 'penalty' the Dart 'suffered' from. glad you're still around.
dominque jackson i had an accident too , bad accident and nothing happend to me thanks to that car
I have the same car! I also got t-boned and stupid insurance never totaled my car like they should have. now im driving around a car with structural damage! They paid 5.5K worth of damage and my car is only worth 6K! Unbelievable .
I rushed to buy this car after getting T-boned in my last car. Good to know that it's a safe car to drive and that it kept you safe.
Wait till the computer gets a little wet 😂
1. Should’ve been called the Neon
2. Should’ve had an SRT-4 trim
The neon just sounds cheap and small. And dart fits the look of this car?
No, it should be the Avenger SRT.
ralphinator2 wouldn’t have looked the same. And avenger is worse than neon. That’s why the 200 got a bad rep. The name From the old 200. They definitely needed a new name. No caliber neon or avenge e
i think it was too much of a Fiat to be called a Neon or a Dart but an SRT-4 trim would be cool
They did have an srt model but it never reached the masses.

They shouldn't have rushed it into production. Had they taken their time and done it right it could've been a really good car, I think
I think Sergio was more interested in re-launching Alfa vs giving Chrysler/Dodge decent vehicles. He just used those brands as a cover.
If you are looking for a
well built sedan with great styling then I recommend that you look at a Dart as there are still many great deals out there on the Dart!
I agreed with you
I own a 2015 Ralleye and I love it. I really wish dodge works on a new dart to release in the future when it’s ready

All the years of 2013-2016 were rushed and not cared for is what you're implying?

I drove the Dart and the Chrysler 200. Both cars looked ok, however the performance was an issue. There was too much of a Delay with the Dart when accelerating.

As a European, I have never seen this car. But it is stunningly beautiful to watch inside and out.
Is like a small baby Charger
I have a 2015 Dodge Dart Rallye, it's actually an amazing car with a lot of pep. I bought it used as a lemon, it was sent back to the manufacturer because of engine overheating, but since I've gotten it there has been zero issues. It's value made it probably the best first car I could have possibly ever gotten.
My experience with the Dart I nearly bought in 2013:
What I was looking for: Manual Transmission with Air Conditioning.
So I nearly got a loaded Dart for 21k, BUT:
The head rest was designed for someone with a hunched back, as it forced my head forward too far.
I live in Atlanta and never use A/C in my cars...you don't need it.
@@fortheloveofnoise Yes, because the climate in Atlanta is the only climate in existence....

Why is there so maybe people here In America who can’t drive standard. I really hate that.
Cohunnamatta I could never have an automatic after driving my stick shifts but yeah hardly anyone I know can drive a stick.
I love my stick shift
Part of it I believe has to do with the huge number of drivers and the convenience in teaching thousands of new drivers in an automatic is easier than teaching standard. For myself a standard 1.4 dart is what makes my commute a little more interesting and enjoyable.
People are too lazy or afraid to learn. Sadly standard transmission cars and trucks are harder to find

@@woozie___ Absolutely. A gorgeous car.
Another great informative video homie
Thanks man!!
Extended lifetime warranty? no car warranty is lifetime, stop talking outta your ass dude...
That's just my opinion.
totally agree. they should have named it after a K-car from the 80s
Also it also basically being part-Fiat didn't really help its case either.
@@ArbitraryOutcome that is so true when they put in the turbo charged engine which could barely move the car because it's more heavier than the Fiat itself
@@michaelz5692 the 2.4 model was much better.
I liked the NEON, particularly the first gen. But, yes, this should have been a NEON.
Great video bro👍👍 But can you make a video on why FCA cancelled the Dodge Avenger 2008-2014 .
Nice looking 300M
@@dontelindsey5846 Thanks!👍
We know why poor qualtiy
yup Chrysler 200 and Avenger videos like this one will be coming!
@@MarspeedCars 👍👍
Not getting the nine speed was a blessing. Ask a 200 or Cherokee owner.
Or a Landrover discovery sport owner!
Stay away from a dry clutch transmission!!!
jesus christ that's awful, sorry to hear. they better buy that shit back
Had a friend have exact same issues. Problems started at 8k miles.
Learn how to drive a manual, problem solved.
must be beating the shit out of it. then blaming the car. cool.
If im not mistaken the srt4 was announced... then shortly after the whole car was cancelled
you're correct, didn't have time to touch on that but it happened and then unhappened pretty quick lol
The GT was not the top trim.. that's the Limited. GT slots in just below it.
The 2.4 was not the only engine 2014+; there was still the Aero model with the 1.4T.
They also had a "ralley sport" model that came with 1.4t
FCA's poor reliability record probably kept customers away in droves.
yeah too much screw up on a pretty decent product, you're spot on
If they would have kept the original Dart look and just modernize it like they did the Challenger it would have done better
Should've just SRT'd it. I've seen some MEAN ass built darts, and they're sick, SRT 4 would've opened up a whole new community for these
But it was the same vehicle, with the same problems. Slapping an SRT badge wouldn't have fixed a damn thing.
I own a 2016. Have had lots of heating problems. While i love the looks, it's not a reliable car I would recommend. Wish they out the time and effort into it. The looks are there!!
it's basically an alfa romeo in a dodge skin made to be usa legal
except there's a reason we barely see alfa romeos in the us; they just dont work
their engines are meant for premium gas for one
dodge charger runs on 87 unleaded better than dodge dart can which in the user manual recommends premium 91 gas lol
Travis pastrana drove a beefed up dart as his drift car it’s on UA-cam thing is a beast
I have a rallye
All I remember from the commercials is “don’t touch my dart”
Prob cause they’re fragile af and will break 😂
If Dodge were to bring it back, they should try to re-release it as either a subcompact suv or hatchback similar to the kona or corolla.
I own one and love it to this day, the haters are mad bc they got stuck with a base model Honda civic or Toyota Camry
Sonicc the Hedgehog dat reliability tho
Sonicc the Hedgehog Lol I’m sure this guy isn’t throwing his new Corolla or Camry around the track. Toyota is better than FCA in every category I can think of.
Cool factor > reliability, enjoy your boring toyota, you boring ass person.
@ganymedeIV4 zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I love my 2015 ralley dart! 69k miles, two accidents from other dumb driers and my car is still running strong!!
I a new owner of a dart gt 2015 he looks awesome and is funny very funny
The Chevy Cruze has hit the chopping block now too. Which is not a surprise.
As has the Ford focus. Those cars hit the chopping block because the companies on a hole are stopping production of almost all their cars and are switching to producing just cross overs, SUVs, and trucks.
Matthew Ross Every ford car except for the mustang is discontinued now
@@Beezer6927 yes, and I believe all the big three are doing the same.
And the Corolla and civic remain strong
Anthony Molina got an 18 civic si myself haha
Yup, same thing happened to me
