  • Today we are doing a slight decline dumbbell press. I love to do this first thing in my chest day. You might not think it does much but you have to give it a try. Let me know how you like it.

    After not being able to feel the stretch anymore on incline, I started these last week. First time in years, or ever, that my chest got genuinely pumped and sore, not just stretched. That good kind of sore. For some reason my upper pecs were hit well also, never happens for me even on incline. Long may it last. 93% pec activation on dumbbell decline according to EMG studies.

    • @tarikartiste349
      @tarikartiste349 2 місяці тому

      But for The mid and lower pec .....
      I'm focusing now more about upper pecs
      I'm doing just incline dumbbell press
      And Incline dumbells fly

    When they study muscle activation with EMG, it shows a decline press activates the pectoralis major the most. This makes sense, because when you do them, you can feel your shoulders are less activated. So, the science matches how they feel. Interestingly, flat bech and incline usually show equal stimulation in the pecs, with more shoulder in the incline version. Dorian was onto something, slight incline as to not make your bench a shoulder exercise and slight decline because being upside down while pressing sucks, lol.

      I know im late but can you show me that study that says decline has the most chest activation

    So impressed with the simple idea of putting a plate under the bench to give you the decline one of those why didn't I think of tha moments

    I love the decline bencing, it really isolates the lower pec for me too and somehow it is a bit easier for my shoulders also.

    I just did the same: sticking a plate under my bench to create a 'slight' decline. The result was that my chest was targeted like never before, with no shoulder issues. I won't be going back to the flat press.

    I like that small angles are easier to manage in a home gym without a bunch of extra equipment. I experiment with different size wood blocks so I still have plates i can lift lol. RIP Coach. You were always a massive inspiration to me and I know so many others. It's sad he never will know how many lives he continues to change even after his passing.

    These superset with cable flys are a nasty burn with minimal shoulder issues….my shoulders are a mess and these were a game changer. I also stick the plate on the opposite end for a slight incline as well. Perfect chest workout for trashed shoulders.

  • @redbaron1953

    my bench at home declines but mainly only the larger portion of the pad is at a decline whereas the part of the pad where it divides from the top portion is not long enough to support my lower back.. so what I did was put two crates underneath the bench and it elevated it to an extreme decline level that I had at the gym but it still felt awkward quite like the ones in the gym.... The new weider bench I just brought does a very slight decline just as the one you illustrate in your video and for a little while I thought that was not an effective decline until I stumbled across this video... I have since went on Amazon and updated my review on its decline feature... Thank you for this most informative info.. I no longer need to fight gravity and balance doing declines at extreme angles...

    love these another way is doing them as floor presses with a pillow or airex pad under your butt rest at the bottom and press up best feeling in the chest u re more stable cause ur shoulder are resting on the floor compared to a bench good for people with wider shoulders

    I’ve hurt myself with this exercise. RIP John. Just found out about John recently and have been loving the videos and working so many exercises and tips into my workouts. This was my second chest day of trying the decline dumbbell press and on my second set, I jerked a knot in the center of my back trying to stabilize the weight while laying down. I was almost in tears. I’ve been on the foam roller and been stretching all day. Trying to figure out how John did it so smoothly. Not giving up on this exercise just yet!
