These videos have seriously made a world of difference in my lifting... Some of the best lifting instructionals on youtube. At least, the ones I've seen.
First day impressions:It arrived in a waist high box. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxP26Tir6n60vUkdtn4mbwhRO8cwuJQNy2 Each dumbbell was in its own foam box within the shipping box. Everything was secure and in good shape. No weird smells. The weight changing mechanism is really smooth and straight forward. Changing weight is really fast and easy. Though the handle is plastic, I don't think it will be breaking anytime soon. So far pretty impressed after my first session with them. I was afraid they were going to be too wide at first, but I didn't have any issues with them while doing upright rows.
Thanks for the video, fella. Brand new to gym and trying to rid myself of my moobs! I appreciate the advice (especially going for size, or tone). I'll give this a try when I work out tomorrow ...
Awesome advice. My friends keep telling me to lift heavy eat more and buy protein powder. But I feel way better doing just the right amount that my body can handle. I prefer training 10-12 reps with just enough weight. Then when that's done, I drop the weight and repeat till failure. I feel it in my core when I do it this way. Otherwise I'm struggling to lift some ridiculous heavy weight. This happens when I train with others who want to show off how tough they are and how heavy weight they can lift.. But I would be able to train for way longer and come out of the gym feeling like I'm walking on air. Compared to the guy who only lifts heavy and feels all slow and heavy after working out. Don't get me wrong there are guys that lift heavy and train long as well as lift light weight. That's where I want to be. So it'll take some time.
On the whole don't stretch thing, still make sure to extend to bring the weights down to chest level. If you don't do full repetitions, you are risking injury if you every go past that point to do a full rep.
@YogiBear13 i see your point, and respect it but from my personal experience i have been always doing low reps for muscle/mass gains, and one could argue i look half decent lol. but i will keep that thought in mind..
@jayMbodybuilding Yeah Diet is 80% but high rep exercises like deads and squats with 1 min rest time in between sets will raise ones heart rate to the point where they are burning quite a bit of fat near cardio levels.
@Rotatez Agreed, toning is refering to an aesthetic appearence. Some on here were trying to argue with a kinesiology major this wasn't scientific lol Which is really funny because I scientifically prove it again and again with my clients.
@AdR1aN43 Lol! Ok buddy - it is clear that you refuse to open your mind to another perspective. I make it a rule in life to not debate against stubbornness. Regardless, you and I both know that thanks to our little exchange that you have been enlightened. Feel free to pretend otherwise though. Nice chatting with you ... bye.
@AdR1aN43 Question for you then: In your opinion, what would be the result of someone going to the gym on a regular basis but not doing the standard 3 x 10-12 heavy sets, but instead doing 4 x 15 - 20 moderate to light weight sets? Would they not build muscle but not "big" muscles? Would they not become a lot bigger if they did the standard approach?! Don't get so pedantic to the point where u lose focus. E.g. Usher is "toned" - Ronnie Coleman is BUILT!
@awhodatt no if u lift 15 to 20 reps u wnt build shit n u will not get toned..well u might build a very little muscle but it soesnt make ur muscle toned at all.. unless ur diet is in check. its diet defines how u look more than training. getting toned is loss of bodyfat
I don't think so. With heavier weights, your recruiting the larger and stronger areas of muscle while with lighter weights, your recruiting more smaller assisting muscle fibers. Think of it as doing leg extensions after squats, it's just adding some extra tone to the rest of your quad muscles that the squats weren't hitting.
Flat, Incline, decline: t.he best pump that I ever get in my chest is when I do decline...the difference is almost scary. I actually feel like chest is going to explode...wowww
If you're lifting alone, be really careful with your weight and reps. If it gets too heavy or you get too tired in the middle of a set, you have no one to hand the dumbbells to, and you could injure yourself.
@AdR1aN43 (Sigh) Ok buddy - listen up. In the bodybuilding world there is one general objective - and that is to build BIG muscles. That is what this entire IF channel is focused on. However, we understand that not everyone has a goal of building BIG muscles - therefore, for those individuals we utilize the term "toned" or "toning". Is that better? (Perhaps you could forward a more useful and convenient way of making this distinction. I look forward to your reply.)
"Toning" is NOT "bullshit" people. E.g. I am certain every person on here that works out on a regular basis will know of 1 or 2 guys in their gym that is quite ripped but not "big". Meaning, he has muscles all over his body, you don't ever see him pushing heavy weight, but he is still "cut". That is what is meant by "toning". Toning = one will workout on a regular basis, build muscles, but never become "big"! Get it??
@AdR1aN43 1. In light of what I have mentioned thus far my perspective is not contrary to either your trainer's advice or the top comment. There is a general distinction to be made in the world of bodybuilding / working out between "BIG" and ... otherwise. Hence ... "toning". Again, I invite you to forward a more useful or accurate term. There is none forthcoming thus far so ... Btw, I am pretty certain that huge-ass, professional Joe Tong is not idly throwing words around. J. T. > ur trnr
@awhodatt nope not enlightened what so ever. have been told by my trainer that toning doesnt exist . at least for weight training. also top comment doesnt lie
Hey, have you tried "MUSCLEader" (have a look on Google)? On their website you will find a great free video showing the best way to develop noticeable muscles really fast while reducing body fat as well. James and hundreds of guys with the same goal had good results because of this technique. I hope it will help you also.
omg joe again u saying toning ... guys belive me there is no such thing as toned muscle .. ala muscle can do with weight lifting is getting stronger and bigger ... u can make the whole muscle bigger or smaller but there is no such a thing in body bulding called toned muscle thats is a bullshit

I'll give this a try when I work out tomorrow ...
I love decline dumbbell presses! There the bomb no joke, I’m a 500+ bencher and I use them every chest workout.
What a great guy and so nicely explained. I'll subscribe.

+Weed Hound but are you yoked?
i lift by myself, and this video says you need a spotter to hand you the weights. any suggestions on doing this alone?
Thank you for this video! Will try this during my next chest workout! :)
On the whole don't stretch thing, still make sure to extend to bring the weights down to chest level. If you don't do full repetitions, you are risking injury if you every go past that point to do a full rep.
THxxxx so much for ur detailed explanation "JOE TONG"
This dude is a good trainer
Squeezing the dumbbells when you're at the top position. Simple but oh so effective tip. This guy knows what he's doing!
@YogiBear13 i see your point, and respect it but from my personal experience i have been always doing low reps for muscle/mass gains, and one could argue i look half decent lol. but i will keep that thought in mind..

is it just me or does the demonstrator look like agent 47?
if I was smoking what you were, then yea that's him!
@Rotatez Agreed, toning is refering to an aesthetic appearence. Some on here were trying to argue with a kinesiology major this wasn't scientific lol Which is really funny because I scientifically prove it again and again with my clients.
Thanks for the video...very informative. I don't have a spotter..... but I'll figure it out.
You're the best bro!
Really great instructional video, thank you
when I do this exercise I feel pression on my wrist and my shoulder, what am I doing wrong?
it happened to me in first few days
@AdR1aN43 Lol!
Ok buddy - it is clear that you refuse to open your mind to another perspective.

very good form
cool video
These are friendlier for sore delta???
Hello, have you seen this method called the Max Muscle Method? (do a google search). My cousin says it gets people bulging with muscle.
Well, I don't have anyone to hand the dumbbells to me
cheers dude
is it ok to do both declined and flat on the same day?
yeah i like to do the decline and the incline at the same day so yeah
There is really no reason to do both. They work out the same muscle
the decline focuses more on the lower chest fibers the incline focuses more int upper chest so yeah'
Albin Ylinenpää
He asked about decline and FLAT. Not Decline and Incline
oh ok
We don't have anything like this at my gym how can I do decline chest workout
wats better the dumbell or decline bench version
Dumbells
@AdR1aN43

No sabia que el tanque Silva hacia fitness
What's the difference between tone and size?!?!
this guy's serious. maybe i should be like him on my videos?
If you're interested in Decline bench..Watch Dorian Yates. This guy isn't bad, but Dorian explains it better.
Flat, Incline, decline: t.he best pump that I ever get in my chest is when I do decline...the difference is almost scary. I actually feel like chest is going to explode...wowww
elbows could be too high, try too keep your elbows tucked by your side
The end is such an an oxymoron where he says "pick a weight you can control" but then says "make the exercise as hard as possible."
If you're lifting alone, be really careful with your weight and reps. If it gets too heavy or you get too tired in the middle of a set, you have no one to hand the dumbbells to, and you could injure yourself.

a lot over people over lack this area?
I thought you get strength from 4-6 reps, size (hypertrophy) from 10-12 reps, and pass that its endurance
@PhiDham No, it isn't. Plsgo.
toning example is cristiano ronaldo and size example was young arnold
@PhiDham No such thing as toning, plsgo

#1:45 i see mike mike o'hearn lol
Size means you're getting bigger and tone means you aren't but you're cutting the fat off your body to make your muscles show.
Decline works the whole chest u don't need any other exercises maybe you should read a book on anatomy
what hes doing are more like dumbbell flys
@hellypalli1977 caught in two minds poor guy!
@awhodatt ask any bb on youtube
Lay them on your chest (palms facing eachother) before you get in decline position.
Toning = LOSE BODY FAT. Simple.
@awhodatt u cant get "toned" by doing high reps so it is bullshit. loss of bodyfat does it

Well my routine on dumbbell press is better and easier better results
he looks like the barelypolitical guy lol
@YogiBear13 lol thats not true. having a shitty diet eating whatever you want will make you look like shit.
@xBiGxKiNGx 500 grams yeah? nobody cares pal
omg joe again u saying toning ... guys belive me there is no such thing as toned muscle .. ala muscle can do with weight lifting is getting stronger and bigger ... u can make the whole muscle bigger or smaller but there is no such a thing in body bulding called toned muscle thats is a bullshit
