- Nine StarCraft Grandmasters face off against each other in the finals of the Archon tournament in StarCraft 2 that was recently hosted by Harstem. In this series of Protoss vs Terran I cast MaxPax, Goblin, Skillous and Trigger face off against HeroMarine, Cuku, BattleB, Iba and Creed.

MaxPax and co don't need to assign traditional roles like "coordinator", "attacker" or "phoenix pilot", they communicate psionically through the Khala 2.0 like true Protoss.

Observation: it seems easier to get pros in archon mode than in 2v2
Conclusion: pro players naturally merge into one being upon contact

I want to see Serral, Reynor, and Dark as a Zerg Archon. Serral's macro + Dark's strategy + Reynor's micro. Terrifying. 🔥🔥🔥

Protoss = Hero, MaxPax, Classic
Language barrier is a thing unfortunately...

@@skychaos87 If these teams were to train for a few weeks together... This would be the PEAK of SC2. I don't think that APM unbound AlphaStar would even be close to them. Oh... I would love to see that.
@@skychaos87In the same tournament Maru, Ryung, Byun, and Gumiho lost against Heromarine, Cuku, Iba, BattleB and Creed in the semis.
Serral and Reynor suck together. There were Archon games before (maybe a couple of years ago) were they were together, and they were too individualistic to play together.
Maxpax saw it was match point and his teammates just heard Alaraks voice: “Empower me”
Another Archon series, and with Maxpax? Top quality content, Lowko. I hope you get to cast more pro archon games.

archon mode zerg. build a nydus. put nydus near empty bases/gold bases. one guy solely micro drones to go into the worm, mine the gold, return to the nydus and deliver. maybe this could be more viable in the AI matches

I recalled from Harstem's analysis and winner interview, Maxpax were in charge of army while Skillous were the one doing macro in game 1-3. On the last game, they sniff build order change from Terran and decide to play blink stalker, and Maxpax were the one doing macro until the moment of attack.
Terrans should of won the last game I think but somehow they messed up their macro in archon mode while nothings happening
What's the difference between micro & macro?
@@tahutagaol9186 think of like wars macroing is the stuff done at home like preventing supply blocks expanding adding on production ext.
microing is more at the battleground like managing your spell casters target fire pulling back weakened units ext.

@46:30 Best stalker control in the world? That has got to be PartinG. Maybe not currently, since he's doing his milirary service, but historically? Absolutely! (That being said, I urge you to force MaxPax and PartinG to face off in some micro challenges. Once the big boy has got his big boy pants back on, that is.)
Edit: Ok, I shouldn't have paused. Now you're talking about the sugar puppy bear as well. But that just solidifies my point that the two of them should face of in a stalker battle.

zerg in archon mode is probably the hardest but i'd say also the race that has more potential. just having a guy for creep spread, nydus plays, and so much high mobility units and spellcasters seem to be all types of actions that would benefit for having a dedicated player. but the comunication really need to be on point
The creep spread seems to lose the push back on archon in the midgame though imo.
Creep didn't cross my mind, but it doesn't require a lot of energy having one guy dedicate a small portion of his time on creep denial. It becomes harder to combat 1v1 as you are already stretched thin.

As terran, it would be great to have a player "microing" a SCV to repair units in combat.
Just right click on the repairs button and bring a couple of scv with Ur self
You realize you can turn on automatic repair on scvs right? You don't need to micro it at all. Just bring them with you with repair activated.

I feel that the best race for Archon would be Terran.
Protoss: Stalkers, Pheonix, and to a lesser extent Sentries (walling behind units right when you fire a purification nova). Their ultimate army is air, which requires little to no micro.
Zerg: Powerful spellcasters which would benefit massively from focused micro, but their armies are still throwaway. So they would get better trades.
Terran: Stronger units with higher survivability, tend to be more defensive, some spell casters, stim with stutter step, widow mine retargetings, siege tank retargeting, snipes, reapers.
Terran already gets favourable trades, combine that with the micro provided by Archon they would rarely have mistakes where they take losses.
the kitchen analogy kinda works; 5 chefs is likely too many (there's an English idiom "too many chefs in the kitchen" roughly meaning "too many people trying to take charge of the same things"), but that many smart culinary people should probably remember that dessert needs to be made (or in this case, pro-gamers and a given game mechanic).
im not a protoss player but ima be honest, I was certainly cheering for them the whole time
I think Archon mode could allow much, much bigger maps.
The question which is the best archon race is nice. Toss always complaining that they don't have enough micro potential. I always saw that differently. I personally think that most toss are just deathball lazy. Nearly never flank, just some shiftclick zealot runbuys, a move air. Toss needs a serral.

is the division of labor in archon mode always by unit type (eg Creed takes marines, Iba takes Tanks, etc) or do players ever divvy up by section of the map (eg Creed takes 12, Iba takes 6, etc)?
I assume it’s the latter because it allows the player to control every unit they can “see” and micro small hit squads effectively. Although I bet it could work perfectly with pro players, my concern with the former is with how the different units sync up in battle with micro. Like one example was when the colossi were hit with interference matrix in game 3 the zealots immediately charged in while the colossi escaped and if it was one player doing the zealot and a different one doing the colossi I don’t think the reaction time would have been as perfect. We see that all throughout this archon match with small little moves that I don’t think multiple people could pull off as in sync as just one person controlling the group of units in his or her screen.
They fixed the mule dying on the last trip with a patch a few years ago if I remember correctly. They shortened its life time by a little. No need to do that micro anymore.

I love this mode. It's like watching the AI games but better in every way. Also it is hilarious when they mess up the team coordination

This game shows one imbalance that needs to be addressed. To me the key attribute to an SC2 unit is that micro makes a unit stronger but not invincible. It is super easy to micro away from a nova (one of the few AOE attacks) but very difficult to micro away from an EMP. Novas are easier to micro away from mines and cyclones too
tbf, and im a massive sucker for protoss, nova is way more punishing to land than emp. losing shields/energy is bad, yes. dropping 30 supply instantly is worse.
I still don't like how ghosts are the "beat everything" unit though.

Protoss is on a timer vs T, have to beat them early, or at the worse, mid-game, cannot let Terran build up to lategame where Ghosts + Terran army just crushes Protoss.

Painful in game 3 when the terrans did not kill the 12 O'clock nexus of the protoss in their across map push. PAIN.

Protoss have the best units in the game - but they are also the most difficult to get skill multiplier (i.e. "micro") out of. Archon mode favors Protoss because of this.
TERRANS really messed up at 40:30 by not targeting the NEXUS in stutter step while trailing the PROTTOSS army.... it's directly what cause them to lose the army yet not destroy the NEXUS with barely any health

Archon game is almost like AI games, they can focus on a wide field of war. I still want to see krasi0 level of terran tank warfare.

If you compare Phoenix vs Oracle... Oracles have a downtime when they're nothing more than scouts, while recharging energy. Phoenix on the other hand can still attack air units, plus are a little faster. So if compared phoenix win slightly overall. Plus with more numbers Phoenix can destroy everything except buildings, where Oracles can't defend themselves vs anything flying.
I do watch every game, except viewer games.
Lowko has it wrong, the best race to play in Archon mode is still Zerg and Terran, not Protoss as you can do so much with more units like marine drops or nydus plays with even mindcontrolling for infestors. If a Protoss wins in Archon mode then that just means they have skilled players since Protoss will always most definitely lose to all other races. Terran is only a little behind Zerg but Protoss is way behind on both of those as a race. If only Zealots become 1 supply like marines then they might be great.

@@BesfrenOnlinegamerz But yet on the pro scene 1v1 TVP is favored by terran. IMO, Skill doesn't appear to be the issue here in archon mode for terran.
The issue is unless toss has GODMODE macro/micro (or cheese) they don't stand a chance against a muling terran and yes mules are OP/Imba because it breaks the over-saturation programming code for mining minerals.
Basically, toss/zerg gets punished for over-saturation, but terran is the exception for the programming code and gets a pat on the back. Have 16 scvs on a fully saturated base and then drop 2 mules you now have approx 23 scvs mining minerals. Dumbest mechanic in the history of RTS.
Anyways, When toss has GODMODE macro/micro, terrans have a damn hard time fighting toss. The MMM + ghost + viking just doesn't cut it anymore.
A good argument that Protoss is the most powerful race, by far. The only limiting factor is the micro and skill of the various players.
The protosses used khala for the synchronization.
