its more the map than anything. all those ledges and dead space. the huge amount of area to cover. there us a reason protoss players love this map and zerg players hate it.
That was kind of crazy, guess all the top players should start playing other races to see if their skills transfer favorably. Could be really wild to see.😊
Main issue is the lack of control by protoss at the pro level. Reynor showed how powerful it is when you don’t just all army hotkey and hope the storms kill everything
@@Izik09834That is silly. Raynor doesn't have very good results with protoss, compared to top protoss players. He loses more than he wins. This map is good for Protoss and he took advantage of it.

Reynor is an absolute beast. Playing two races at the highest level is insane, though it would be interesting to see him go up against Clem or Maru as Protoss. If he can hold his own in TvP as well, he might become an absolute matchup nightmare in the future.
P weak was always bs in my opinion (maybe super top level there is a little bit of truth due to P splash beeing its best wepon and you can micro against it). Just look at grandmaster leauge and how many P there are.
@@xxxyyy5080 if you watched the homestory cup stream literally all the casters said that he only went toss because the map is extremely favorable for protoss. They said that even serral expected reynor to pick protoss here.
This is really mind boggling to watch Reynor beat Serral in late game PvZ. Truly a phenomenal game. I’d love to see more games like this in the future or other Protoss players adapt these strategies!
Absolutely wild. I love this race tech cross-polination, I hope if continues. Anybody else think it's funny that Reynor plays everything except Terran?
This was amazing game. All respect to Reynor, it really put a smile on my face, that someone won over against such a best player with an off race. Love this style of protoss. Something like MaxPax way of playing made up into perfection.
I've been thinking lately that I haven't seen much of Reynor, then to see him and Serral go at it two days in a row has been a real treat, especially with the switch to Protoss. Also wanted to say that you aced the commentary on this one, Lowko - really well balanced between the strategy of the map pool and race selection, the strategy of the game, and the calling of the action - absolutely spot on mate.
It's so ironic that Reynor had to switch to Protoss in order to beat Serral despite Serral's ZvP being vastly superior to his ZvZ. Still, great job by Reynor for pulling it off.
Man....protos winning and that being against serral....iam so impressed....haven't play a single game of starcraft but I've learned alot from this channel....❤❤...starcraft is one awesome game
We saw so much of this with the short stint of protoss gateway centric play what was.. I can only imagine was atleast a year ago at this point and I was quite sad to see how it never really caught on, but I definitely think theres so much lost potential in deviating from the general race playstyles that are so entrenched in the meta at the moment. Seeing Reynor really push the flexibility of protoss units to the limit and play so agressively into the lategame gives me so much hope for breaking some of the more boring macro game habits. It also makes you think, how much of matchup is playstyle as much as actual race. This game in particular gives me serious 'I hate ZvZ' vibes, purely because Serral did not seem very happy with the relentless agression from reynor. (Although it was a ton of fun to watch! Lovely cast!)
"Terran and Protoss trade more cost efficiently in split map scenarios" - Not necessarily true. Zerg is the only race that has free units - the locusts and the other small bugs of the flying flap-flaps, forgot what they're called. Zerg can wear down T or P without spending a single mineral in the late game. Ask Lucifron, that's how he lost the world finals.
This was great match. A long time ago you casted a match from a Protoss who played similar to this but lost. I forget who it was, but it made me think that Protoss should play more like Zerg and I think confirmed it.
Serral's match is just incredible, he make the death ball, he make the best cust/efficiency fights and he GGs out when has 150 army supply, more than the opponent. Love it! Details.
LOWKO WHAT'S THE TITLE OF THE UA-cam LIVESTREAM OF THIS FULL BEST OF 5 OF THIS PARTICULAR MATCH? I WANT TO WATCH IT THIS MATCH IS REALLY EPIC... IT'S IN THIS CHANNEL RIGHT?
What is the point of interceptors if they climb back inside the carrier as soon as the carrier starts flying away, leaving any pursuit free access to weaponless carriers?!
I see so many comments on reddit about how inflated Zerg APM is, then there is Reynor offracing with 550 APM [insert skull emoji]. Reynor's Protoss is quite unique, what a great game!
i really love reynors playstyle here.. of course the map allows it and you cant play it like that on every map, but i love the upgrade heavy style he played here.. it allows him to switch constantly without arriving with sub-optimal units. often protoss goes either ground or golden armada leaving out a vital point of their army line up. as we can see with terran, going from bio to a mech-switch with mixed in bio works out really well, so why not do it with protoss. having 150APM more than the average toss-pro definitly helps as well. i hope some of the toss-players are looking at that and will go "darn, i need to step up my game ASAP"
The early game "cheese" is what won the day. Protoss is all about doing anything that is unexpected. Once late game rolls around the zerg came back hard when the cheese was running out. Good thing Raynor kept up the lead.
watching these two juggernauts is so damn entertaining. Im a big serral fan boy and think he is the best player ever, but raynor is making it hard to keep saying. incredible game from both of them
Reynor is known for playing other races all the time, went random in the ESL Europe open this year and only lost in the finals to Clem after beating spirit and maxpax. He's played random in numerous tournaments before that, and had a whole argument with the GSL about how he should be allowed to race switch. His protoss has been exceptional for quite some time
Another thing I started to see at Pro Level Zerg play is the absence of Banelings. Even though I am currently a Protoss player, I acknowledge that the Baneling had a huge impact on the evolution of the Zerg race in the 25 year old Starcraft. I think that everyone agrees with me that taking away that +5 HP upgrade was a blunder made by the Balance Council, and it should be repaired ASAP. I recently tried early game Adepts in PvZ. For e.g. 60 army supply of chargelot - Immortal can't kill an undefended Planetary being repaired by SCVs, which is absurd. How can you actually split the Protoss army and at the same time defend 2 Terran drops + 1-2 Libs mineral line harass? Cannons? You have to invest in Cannons? Like why? A Cannon is a Gateway worth. If you have 3 bases 7-8 mins into the game, you expect a Protoss invest 450 minerals in 3 Cannons instead of 3 Gates? That's beyond absurdity. So many agreed that Protoss needs increased vision.
