    Many places here that serve iced tea -- generally just strong black tea -- allow you to serve yourself, and are "bottomless" (meaning unlimited) while you are there. Generally there are two dispensers, one for sweet tea, and one for unsweetened. This allows people to adjust their tea to the sweetness they prefer, without having to try adding sugar or honey to a cold beverage.

I grew up in Texas, and there they don't often offer unsweetened tea -- or didn't in the twentieth century, it's been a while. But in places where tea is served in the US, that's not uncommon. The demand here might be higher than Canada, not being as hot generally.

    Growing up in the country, iced tea was a thing grandmother's took pride in being the best at making. Once the brew flavor is on point, you add sugar to your taste, however, most make it a bit on the sweeter side. The reason for this is because they would then fill a glass (mason jar much of the time) with ice (to the top) and pour the hot tea over the ice. Doing it this way cuts the sweetness down to being just right and there is no odd syrupiness to it. Its a beautiful thing once perfected but it does take time and practice to get it down. I can't drink store bought sweet tea because it's just not good in comparison. I enjoyed watching their reactions. Peace and love be with you all! :)

    • @Katzztar
      @Katzztar Рік тому +2

      That's one way of doing it. Some don't pour the hot tea over ice, instead refrigerate it and serve after 24 hrs being chilled. How my family made it for generations was to boil the water with the sugar (depends on choice aunt would add 2 cups per pitcher), remove from heat and add ammt of desired tea bags and steep, then refrigerate. keep in fridge until gone.

    • @chrisfrench9257
      @chrisfrench9257 Рік тому +1

      @Katzztar My grandma uses about 2 cups of sugar a pitcher as well. Her friend Orlee made better tea, though. For me, I can't deal with the syrupiness. How was that after the 24-hour chill timer?

    • @Katzztar
      @Katzztar Рік тому +1

      @@chrisfrench9257 After the chill time it was very refreshingly cold. When I was a kid, my aunt would have a pitcher already made and one in progress ...needed when she had 5 kids of her own + me + multiple kids.

    Iced Tea has many varieties. To get the best tea flavor it has to be brewed (not boiled) for a while. Sun tea stays outside all day. Also, I make a base mix where I brew the tea and add sugar when it is hot so that it gets fully dissolved. Same for lemonade. This is the first time I have seen mint leaves added to iced tea, so I will have to try that sometime. Cheers!

    To make good ice tea, use ordinary black tea, boil the water, add the tea and let it steep for 5 minutes. Do NOT boil it! Add sugar or sweetene if you want to. Let it cool down. Serve over ice (and with mint or lemon/lime if preferred). You can also make it with green tea instead. Then I prefer to add lemon and lime as well as sweetener. This is a great tea for hot weather! So refreshing!

In America, we give it to children to help them get to sleep at bedtime. The other thing is deep-fried ice cream. Vanilla ice cream is wrapped in a dough, which is quickly fried (enough to cook the dough, but not enough to melt the ice cream), and then sugar is sprinkled on top.

    AS someone that grew up in East Texas, which is part of the USA's Southern region I can say yes cold tea , preferably Sweet Tea, is a vital refreshment during our hot summers.
    With the focus on "ice tea" instead of "Sweet tea" I have to wonder if they did get sweet tea. There was no mention was this ice tea 'premade' (canned tea like Arizona or Brisk brands) or instant powder? If so then not proper Sweet tea.

    Some other countries use milk in the black/dark Tea's. The UK and Pakistan, and India typically use milk. (which in my opinion is weird. But oh well.)

    Iced tea has ice! It's literally in the name. That's the reason why it's overly sweet and like syrup to them, there's no ice to dilute it so, it's still overly sweet like syrup. You should always look up a few recipes and practice before serving it to people.

To make Sun Tea, take a large glass jar, put tea leaves in it and fill with water. Gallon size is perfect but any size will do. Put in sun all day, to brew with the sun. Keep lid closed but loosely. Use as iced tea and will maintain a few days.*
