I was 10 years old in 1988 and anxiously waiting for year 2000, imagining how futuristic will it be. Today, I would pay everything to go back to the 80s. 😢😓
I met the lovely Amanda Keller last night with my pug woofy. As I was a teen-ager and a tech nerd and mad scientist, she was my Cindy Crawford poster. I am extremely happy I was able to tell her that she and the others in this show inspired my to do tech engineering in all Avenues. I will just sit back, enjoy and compare then and the predictions to that today
All people need is there laptop and a table for work which all trains have, a workstation would just take up too much space that could be used for civilians
This show is partially responsible for me getting a TV in my room when I was 8 years old. It was on at the same time as my dad wanted to watch something else so my mother got an old TV (the screen was about the size of an opened paper back book) from her work so I could watch it in my room.
Wow! We even knew about the plastics disaster back then and it only got worse 100 times over!! People in the 80's must have just laughed at scientists and continued with corporate greed. Oh wait, isn't that what we do today!?
The problem was never science. It was always money. Not as in, "can we afford it?" - we have all the renewable tech for 80% of the solution now - but as in, "will oil and gas give up their money?" Amazingly, in 1988 not one mention of renewable energy - the only thing they got wrong was the coupling of energy to CO2.

I wish it was still on! Which episode had the car that drives like a video game? You use a joystick to accelerate and other cool stuff. I would love to have a joystick to control my speed.
sadly, yes. we are too wrapped up in gender politics and self absorbed bullshit to make any difference for future generations. I would give anything to go back to the hippy movement.....and no, I was not born then. But it seems like a simpler life, one where you are not seen as a product, except from the over-reaching government that just saw you as a cog in their meat grinder.
There are times that nowadays I really really hate this show SO much!!! It's like 2001: A Space Odyssey in comparison, it promised us so much that we were absolutely blinded that the 21st century would be great and fantastic and while I might admit that maybe the early 2000's weren't that bad. It's the mid 2000's such as 2019+ that are pretty damn bad and I dread what the late 21st century will bring us. Instead we were living in one of the best eras (the 1980's) but were yearning for more when already had it so good in Australia but we didn't realize it at the time because we all took it for granted and sad to say that Australia or the world wide community is not so great now in the 21st century as opposed to the 80's and that we've lost so much in a relatively short span of 31 years from 1988...If there was ever a way for me now to go back to 1988 via time travel instead of existing in 2019?! I'd take it in a heartbeat and made a vow to never ever watch Beyond 2000 ever again because at that time be I'd thankful what I have in the 1980's and I don't know a thing nor ever associate myself with the 21st century ever again thanks because I know how bad it really is in the 21st century....This show lied to us!!!!!!
I think we're too far gone now but we can always return to our roots and build and plant something?! Trick is to use technology for ourselves rather than against and that's tricky....
So 60 years ago we knew about climate change, this was filmed 30 years ago (no one listened obviously) and we are only now trying to do something about what we knew back then, does this mean in 30 years time we might actually start doing something about it?
It is not possible to slow the process . We can’t even get people to stop throwing garbage in the gutter and throw it in a trash can 5m down the foot path.
Lol, look at how proffesional all the people on the train are. I remember back in this time, it was a different time, people were far more professional and put together. They were called yuppies for a reason, young urban professionals. This is kind of what Murphey Brown is about, or Law and Order. I remember my dad going to the hospital in his old Porsche 356 with his briefcase in the back. We don't have professionalsf like this anymore, and now it's all about work from home with the internet. Sheesh, I think Beyond 2000 is a more relevant show nowadays then when it first premiered.
How accurate is this in 2024? Not very. Sure, "let's clean up our act" I don't have any issue with that at all. The WORST, greenhouse gas is H2O...So, how do we "fix" that issue?
