Years ago, I searched UA-cam for Curiosity Show, in the hopes of rewatching one of my dearest shows from my childhood. Nothing came up. And now there's even a channel with full episodes ☺️
To give you an idea of how old this program is, Microsoft Windows ver. 1 was still not released. In fact, it wasn't until 2 years after this program aired. I was in college for computer science at the time, and everything had to be typed on our very slow propietary IBM personal computers (before Bill Gates reverse-engineered DOS and Apple computers). Computer games were where you had to type commands, like "Take 2 steps forward", "Pick up key", "Turn right", etc., to get to your goal of unlocking the treasure. LAME! But they were fun at that time. This was all almost 40 years ago!
Another fun thing you could do that involves hovercraft and balloons is make a CD and balloon hovercraft. Except CDs weren't something as casual as they are, now.
Ah you mean adventure games! Or "text adventures" as they became called, after somebody invented graphical adventures, where you move a guy around and interact by clicking on objects, not typing. This programme's from 1983. Home computers had graphics then! We had video games. The Atari 2600 console had been out since 1977 in the USA, overpriced rubbish though it was. But in 1982 Sinclair and Commodore both had hugely successful computers out with eventually thousands of games! Most were action games, played with joystick. The Atari 400 and 800 home computers came out in 1978 and they had better graphics than the Commodore, cost quite a bit more though. Actually, talking of Windows, even the IBM PC had video games by 1983! 5 years earlier, you'd have a point. But by 1983 computers were taking off and zooming ahead!
Reef knots are called square knots in the U.S., where the one that you get by putting right over left and then right over left again is called a granny knot.
I was 16 when this episode aired, loved watching this show after school along with prof julius Sumner miller years earlier on the ABC. They just dont make these shows anymore. Kids actually learnt something.
I hope someday you are able to release all of the episodes. I just recently discovered your channel and your show and let me tell you they are charming, enjoyable and entertaining. Also it helps me explain some things for my students
Many thanks. Full episodes have some problems with copyright elements, so we take the segments that we can use and do the UA-cam thing, but we plan to release another full episode soon - Rob
@@snoopy13946 Steve Irwin was a gem. I watched him as a teenager. Great stuff. I m not sure if Daniel Andrews of Gladys Kunt were around when he died. And in desperate need of some basic improvements, half the energy from cranking it was wasted in horizontal vibrations that don't directly contribute to the 'massage'!
@@CuriosityShow that's epic .. great to know .. thank you so much for revealing that. and also, for the upload. you can't possibly imagine how meaningful that all is. it's so weird how we nowadays all have smartphones and almost self-driving car and in the eighties, there was none of that yet when one compares TV shows .. umm, how should I put that in a somewhat diplomatic way .. let's say alien observers would be rather surprised by that contradicting development, lol.
I used to watch this show after school in the early 80’s. It’s a blast from the past. I would copy their experiments using household items. I heard somewhere the show deliberately used things found around the house to make science accessible to kids. It was a banger of a show and it’s much better than a lot things for kids on tv now.
Thanks, yes, we did that so that even if you lived in a little country town with few shops and you had no money you should still be able to do things with stuff around the house - Rob
Ah, the 80s drummer. Only technique allowed is single-stroke rolls, and heaven forbid we hit a crash cymbal with the (currently idle) left hand! Gotta reach right across with the one that's already busy on the ride... been there, never going back again!

It's 5:35PM AEST on the 12 August 2022. The Chase Australia has just put up a question which had "The Curiosity Show" as the answer. The contestant got the answer correct. Larry Emdur commented that it was a great show.
19:12 - Interesting that this episode was filmed half a decade before the Channel Tunnel's construction began and a full decade before its completion. (1988 - 1993)
I hope everyone is wondering why they don't make shows like this any longer. You know, shows which treat children like the adults they're going to become, teaching them useful concepts and getting their minds working. Shows made for kids these days seem to treat children like the toddlers they used to be, giving them things that distract their brain, not make it work. I wonder why that is...? Why would you not challenge a developing brain to develop even further?
I remember this show from my childhood. Had no idea it was an australian production until now. ..one more reason why i love australia so much. Back in the days we've had similar shows from switzerland and germany in our swiss tv....but this is unmatched. I only wish there would be shows like this in tv today for the kids (and adults too)
Came for a quick look and ended up watching the whole thing. Remarkable how clear the picture is - not like the small 34cm colour TV I originally watched these shows on!!
Wow, I was exactly 3 years, 5 months and 2 weeks old when this was made. 10000 miles away here in England my dad had the same horrendous moustache, what a time to be alive
I like the bit in the theme song where it goes "curiosityyyyy..................................................................................... SHOW!!"
Oh my goodness! I'd forgotten all about this show. It's like it's from another dimension, life is so different to what it was when I used to watch this show. I think I was starting primary school, another world away!😄
With the question at the end.. I'd say less than 5cm.. as both would actually travel 10cm.. but due to the pencil traveling in a circular motion it should be 10 divided by pi. That's my guess.
You could have knocked me over with a feather when I found out that this spawned 3-2-1-Contact. One of my other favourite shows (but no guesses as to which one I thought was better!)
15:02 the moment you realize that what you thought of a "modern" term just botched up somewhat recently (STEM) has obviously been around for quite a while, lol

To this day whenever I tie a reef knot I hear Dean saying "right over left, left over right"
I thought he said wreath knot. Lol we call that a square knot
“And of course you know what a reef knot is” me from California: 😥
Me to... That's how I got my knot badge @ 1st Mays Hill.

Bill gates didn't reverse-engineered DOS, Microsoft bought the rights for a CP/M clone developed by SCP and ported it to the IBM-PC.
It took me a moment to realize this was before the tunnel under the english channel was built. I was confused why they didn't mention it.

@ilikeminecraft6753 that's fantastic to hear you will love it .
I agree with you and I’m a millennial. I love many shows (and music) from the 70s & 80s. It was a great decade from I’ve watched.
What a great show. Thanks Rob and Dean.

My youth was terrible, the shows we had growing up weren’t as good as this, this is awesome, it’s motivational.
Australia: home of the world's best science shows and worst politicians.
Unfortunately, our politicians didn’t watch The Curiosity Show. They were probably the kids bullying the others.

UGH! I don't think I'd get that old massager too close to my face. You don't know where it's been.
Credit also awarded if you chose "Vicar" as the odd one out among Nun , Priest, Monk, Cardinal, and Vicar, because he's a Protestant among Catholics.
And it might be that nun is no longer a woman among men, as some of the others might now be women.
