@@brotbrotsen1100 DOA6 had a good foundation for the actual game, it's a solid fighting game and everything. But yes, the monetization of the game made it DOA. When you have a day 1 season pass that costs more than the actual game itself (and it only lasted for a few months before the next season pass came out, for the same high price). And even if people wanted to buy individual costumes on the PC version they weren't able to, that was only available for the PS4 version of the game. PC players could only get outfits by buying the season passes. (They did end up changing that way later, but the game was already dead at that point.) Not to mention that a bunch of reviews negatively focused on the games character designs and completely ignoring the actual gameplay (which is par for the course in gaming journalism I guess).

I remember having fun with Supersonic Warriors and that was on the same system. Definitely better sprite work and it had the characters fly. Though I kept using Frieza and he’s kinda nuts in the game. His super is the planet killing attack he does in the show and while it’s super easy to dodge (as it just goes straight down), it makes a 45 second clock where you win once it times out. The only way to prevent the clock is to take the hit, which takes out half of max lol. So I would just charge it up, hurl it and then just dodge for 45 seconds. Why yes, I am a degenerate

OH GOD! This game is fucking miserable! I picked this up because I was obsessed with DBZ games and FUCK! At least you can see all the content in 15 mins. Goddamn, thankfully Super Sonic Warriors came out later to be a great gba dbz fighter.
If I can give Taiketsu some credit, the soundtrack was by the same people behind Buu’s Fury so, despite how limited it is, the music’s pretty damn cool
Well, that explains What Happened nicely. Taiketsu was one of the worst games I played on the GBA back in the day and now I know why. And of course it boiled down to Atari wanting to push more units, trying to stave off oblivion as long as possible. At least Legacy of Goku 2 and Buu's Fury were damn fine games!
I remember playing this game when I was a little kid. I loved the soundtrack especially, which is what I remember most from Taiketsu. It just too bad the soundtrack was being used in the wrong game and never been used anywhere else since. Such a underrated music.
I love Webfoot, Legacy of Goku trilogy and GT Transformation were legendary and unforgettable, but they absolutely botched this. Also: God, do I wish I knew what soundfont they used for their soundtracks. It's so mystical sounding.
Battle Beast for PCs would make for an interesting pick for this series, I feel. Visually it's honestly really damn good, and it got decent reviews at the time, but trying to play it today shows how rough of a fighting game it truly was, and I think the positive reviews at the time were mainly a mix of the excellent presentation & the generally dire options PC gamers had when it came to fighting games (at least ones that weren't ports of arcade or console games). For every One Must Fall, there were tons of terrible PC fighters.
I'm looking forward to the day when you inevitably talk about more of the many attempts to dethrone Mortal Kombat in the gore department. Lord knows there were a _truckload_ of them.
That fact that one of the worst Mortal Kombat games AND one of the worst DBZ games were both on the Game Boy Advance (Which is actually quite capable) really tells you just how bad the people in charge were with their decisions. Also, that comment about licensed games being rushed really stuck out to me as I can't but feel like even now (Especially with Sports Titles), that might still be the case.
funny enough first dragon ball game I ever owned I remember spending months figuring out the codes to do sky battles and ultimates and still got my ass whooped 😂
I played this back in the day, and I think it's the most disappointed I had been with a licensed game at the time. I remember some people defending it with "Well, it's on the GBA, so what did you expect?", to which my go-to response was always, "Yeah, you know what else is on the GBA? Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival." Granted, I know now that every game dev story is different and porting a classic game is different from making a new one from scratch, but that really doesn't make the game any better.
The "you can't criticize a game from [year] or on [system]" crowd can always be counted on to ignore how [year] or [system] had infinitely better stuff than what you're critizicing.
I’m glad I stumbled across this video. I bought this game as a kid and thought it was terrible, but I couldn’t articulate at that age why it was so bad. It was just deeply deeply off. No one I knew had this game either so I assumed it must’ve been well received and I was just crazy. This video is extremely validating for me and reminds me not to doubt my gut instincts.
I still remember playing this game back on my GBA in High school, me and my friends wondered what kind of drugs were the creators on when they created this.
I got this game for Christmas as a kid, and I played it a lot... I beat the hell out of it with all the characters. It really sucked, but I was a Dragon Ball fan, and was really hungry for any content. Supersonic Warriors is an infinitely better game and nailed the feel of being a Z fighter
Sometimes I forget about a lot of those non SNK or Capcom GBA fighters. I’ll always say Fighting Eyes or Battle Master PS1 (not the gundam game) for stinkiest fighters.
Wow, I'm not even sure which character is done worst by the art style. Vegeta looks like a muppet. Krillin looks like a bobblehead. Buu looks like his face was drawn on with a sharpie. Eightteen doesn't even look -human- -android- cyborg.
Man, I didn't have a decent internet connection during the GBA era. I remember seeing this game in-store and thinking it looked absolutely amazing going by the box when I was younger and asking my mother for it for my birthday. By some twist of fate she accidentally got me the Buu's Fury/GT Transformation Double Pack. I wasn't disappointed as I was a huge DBZ fan anyway and holy hell, I am I glad she made that mistake looking at the game now.
@@That_Lady_Charlie yeah pretty and I wanted to know why this was made and how it pissed off many animal crossing fans not being a main line animal crossing game for the Wii U.

I remember buying this game at a used video game store for five bucks and I didn't realize why it was so cheap until I played it, then it all made sense
Ah TAIKETSU, also known as "Sky Battles Make Mince Meat Out Of The Difficulty" the videogame. The second I discovered down down up up up would consistently guarantee Sky Battles, it TORE the game apart. Thank goodness the Faulconer-inspired charm persisted in the soundtrack, because to this day it is the one thing I will defend in this game. Super Sonic Warriors this is not, even though you can see glimpses of a great idea compromised by circumstance, so a fair verdict all things considered.
I genuinely don't know why this game was even made when Supersonic Warriors was also a one on one DBZ fighter for the GBA and was also a much better game.
When I bought this game, I played it in the car in the parking lot. For ten minutes. Then walked it right back in the store for an exchange. It's freaking horrid.
I had this game when I was in middle school. I let a friend borrow it and he ended up stealing it from me. I think I ultimately ended up the winner in that scenario.
There's one thing that no one should argue with. This is definitely the WORST DragonBall fighting game. Fuck I can't believe I bought this... But to their credit, Legacy of Goku 2 STILL holds up. At least in my opinion. Also, nice cameos!
I had this game back in the day. From all the good DB games for the Gameboy Advance, this one was my first for a long time. Even back then, when I was a child, I knew something was off about this game; it wasn't good. Thanks God eventually I bought Dragon Ball Advance Adventure to take away the sour taste of this awful DB game
I got taiketsu for a birthday or christmas back in the day. It's what I had, so I pushed through it and unlocked everything I think. Did enjoy pulling off the supers (this required a lot of practice, and I got decent at it!), but everything else just didn't feel that great.
I actually had this game and I remember grinding it just o unlock Gotenks and Broly haha. But I think there actually is another DBZ fighting game worse than this, its called Ultimate Battle 22 for the Playstation 1.
Eyyyy Gerry, damn friendy fellow. Neat that you were able to get him for the vid too. And those were a cool selection of extra gameplay settings stuff. That game was fantastic haha
This is one of those games I had no idea was bad until today. I very fondly remember playing this game and unlocking everything.
this series is always the highlight of my week
OH GOD! This game is fucking miserable! I picked this up because I was obsessed with DBZ games and FUCK! At least you can see all the content in 15 mins. Goddamn, thankfully Super Sonic Warriors came out later to be a great gba dbz fighter.
Its kinda crazy how with so many dbz games existing, about 75% are good to mediocre and 97% of them all tell the same fucking story. Amazing.
"Its the settings where things get interesting" If that doesn't sound like the worst game to you I don't know what would be
If I can give Taiketsu some credit, the soundtrack was by the same people behind Buu’s Fury so, despite how limited it is, the music’s pretty damn cool
Bid for Power! Wow, that hit me hard with nostalgia. I used to play that and ESF a lot back in the day.
God, I remember playing this for hours as a kid. This was the game that really solidified for me that games can be bad, actually.
Lool
I remember playing this game when I was a little kid. I loved the soundtrack especially, which is what I remember most from Taiketsu. It just too bad the soundtrack was being used in the wrong game and never been used anywhere else since. Such a underrated music.
You should check out this obscure PS2 fighting game called 'All Star Fighters'
I love Webfoot, Legacy of Goku trilogy and GT Transformation were legendary and unforgettable, but they absolutely botched this.
Also: God, do I wish I knew what soundfont they used for their soundtracks. It's so mystical sounding.
We seem to be the only people who like Transformation. Everybody craps on that game, but I think it's a well balanced and very fun game.
I was having a really bad day but thank to matt you've made me laugh and brightened my day thank you so much.
I had a demo for that one, thanks for sparking that memory.
I'm looking forward to the day when you inevitably talk about more of the many attempts to dethrone Mortal Kombat in the gore department. Lord knows there were a _truckload_ of them.
Two Worst Fighting Games in a month? We must be back in the good timeline.
Why do the fighters look like they should be on an episode of robot chicken? 😂
This game was literally my first game ever, and as a dumb kid who got into video games for the first time ever? I loved it.
10:58 the weirdly proportioned oozaru leg slowly dropping down absolutely KILLED me
This game looks like a Robot Chicken sketch, visually speaking.
"Get out of my FUCKING Timeline!" This cracks me up more then anything
I've not even heard of this Dragon Ball game, perhaps there's a good reason for that then? hahaha
I used to play this on a GBA my sister won in karaoke. We were in Okinawa, Japan. I spent all summer with this game.
oh yeah, it was total trash.
you were in japan, could do much funny things... all summer with taiketsu.
very bad choice xd
funny enough first dragon ball game I ever owned I remember spending months figuring out the codes to do sky battles and ultimates and still got my ass whooped 😂
I played this back in the day, and I think it's the most disappointed I had been with a licensed game at the time. I remember some people defending it with "Well, it's on the GBA, so what did you expect?", to which my go-to response was always, "Yeah, you know what else is on the GBA? Super Street Fighter II Turbo Revival."
Granted, I know now that every game dev story is different and porting a classic game is different from making a new one from scratch, but that really doesn't make the game any better.
The "you can't criticize a game from [year] or on [system]" crowd can always be counted on to ignore how [year] or [system] had infinitely better stuff than what you're critizicing.
And Street Fighter Alpha 3, which might have vanilla Game Boy-level sound quality but has practically everything else kept intact.
A sequel could have gotten the bt2 treatment and might have been a decent game. Still probably nothing special by any means but serviceable.
The “Legacy of Goku” series was incredible, among the best games on the GBA in my opinion.
… did he really ask the abridged team to do voices for like 10 seconds of footage or was that some else? Either way, that’s funny as fuck.
I know Scott and Curt! So they were happy to do it. :)
@@MattMcMuscles that’s amazing. :)
The quality of this game was so laughable it was a kamehamehahahaha
Sometimes I forget about a lot of those non SNK or Capcom GBA fighters.
I’ll always say Fighting Eyes or Battle Master PS1 (not the gundam game) for stinkiest fighters.
I had this game!!! It made me say the phrase "god dammit!!" for the first time ♥ memories
Wow, I'm not even sure which character is done worst by the art style. Vegeta looks like a muppet. Krillin looks like a bobblehead. Buu looks like his face was drawn on with a sharpie. Eightteen doesn't even look -human- -android- cyborg.
With codes enabled, this is by far the greatest fighting ever made.
I’m ashamed to say I unlocked all the characters in this game as a kid
Man, I didn't have a decent internet connection during the GBA era.
I remember seeing this game in-store and thinking it looked absolutely amazing going by the box when I was younger and asking my mother for it for my birthday.
By some twist of fate she accidentally got me the Buu's Fury/GT Transformation Double Pack. I wasn't disappointed as I was a huge DBZ fan anyway and holy hell, I am I glad she made that mistake looking at the game now.
Someone could ROMhack Criticom to make it worse in every regard, and I'm still not sure Matt would give that version the crown.
Would it even be possible to make Criticom worse?
Now all we need is an episode on Dragon Ball GT: Final Bout
Review animal crossing amiibo festival next on what happened
It was a simple cash grab to sell more amiibos. The end.
@@That_Lady_Charlie yeah pretty and I wanted to know why this was made and how it pissed off many animal crossing fans not being a main line animal crossing game for the Wii U.
Vegeta throwing up the moon light ball and stomping down as great ape is such a cool idea for a super attack
Try playing Bio F.R.E.A.K.S., it's a 3D fighting game, and it is absolutely horrendous
It's really not. Janky sure, but it was unique and had actual stuff you can do. It's too good for this show.
@@MattMcMuscles hmm...then how about....Dangerous Streets?
I remember reading a review of this game on a Finnish gaming magazine Pelit back in 2004, where they gave it only 30 out of 100. As positives things they listed chocolate, black sausage and lemon juice, all completly unrelated to the game. And the cons were simply everything about the game.
I remember buying this game at a used video game store for five bucks and I didn't realize why it was so cheap until I played it, then it all made sense
The game isn't really dragon ball, it's more like a child playing with dragon ball action figures
Goodness, I didn’t expect a BFP pull today, what a deep cut! I was so looking forward to curving “kame hame ha”s!
After he said "Get out of my FUCKING time line!" i legit died of laughter
Ah TAIKETSU, also known as "Sky Battles Make Mince Meat Out Of The Difficulty" the videogame. The second I discovered down down up up up would consistently guarantee Sky Battles, it TORE the game apart. Thank goodness the Faulconer-inspired charm persisted in the soundtrack, because to this day it is the one thing I will defend in this game. Super Sonic Warriors this is not, even though you can see glimpses of a great idea compromised by circumstance, so a fair verdict all things considered.
Yeah if u wanna play a DBZ fight on GBA just play Supersonic Warriors
Wow you guys really brought back a memory. I have vivid memories of playing this ball of dung! And I didn’t even notice how bad it was cuz it was DBZ!
Luckily this shitty game didnt squander my fave dbz game of all time then, whew!
LOG II. God tier
Intigued by this Dragon Ball Z Powerstone-like game that was spoken of in the video too, oooer.
Hell yeah Legacy of Goku series haha, find those games hella inspirational with my own game dev stuff.
Those extra settings were a cool touch too, noice.
