That feels like a Jeff Foxworthy setup waiting to happen, "If You tried to make a video game and by the end you ended up selling NFTs.... you just might be a cryptobro".
Honestly the moment I saw him, he gave me that same " 'Says dude and BRAH alot' " vibe that Jeff Spankenburg had. He just radiates this energy of a man who's only chance of getting touch by an actual girl is with a taser.

IIRC part of the lore with the figthers is that most (if not all) of them suffered some sort of severe trauma in their lives. So this game is based around traumatized, weirdly sexualized female characters fighting each other in a digital world for... some reason. Wonderful.

Something I do not think creators of Bikini Karate Babes would have in my opinion.
Getting a working, running bare-bone fighting game out of off-the-shelves programming kit and converted soft-core porn set is not something to be ashamed of.
The vague prosoect of the two fighters maybe but not kissing on the thumbnail is the ONLY risque thing about this game.
If you want girls kissing in your fighting games, maybe make all the characters couples, and all the fights lovers quarrels. And then, instead of the moves being physical attacks, they're just verbal assaults that are delivered and reacted to in ludicrously-dramatic fashion. … I started out trying to create a deliberately terrible concept, but now that I think about it, this could probably work.

Every so often I reinstall this game wondering why I couldn't get into this, give it another go, and remember how lifeless snd devoid of personality this game was.

If a game's marketed as ecchi, I want it to succeed on doing being an ecchi *and* being a game. I can say "I play Gal Gun Double Peace to get a high score" with a completely straight face because of how well its gameplay loop of rapid-fire precise shots works. I may be a pervert, but I don't appreciate those obvious shovelware games on the eshop that try to get attention by having a dirty word on the title
or how Dungeon Travelers 2 is genuinely one of the best dungeon crawlers around.
I played the remake of the first Senran Kagura for shits n giggles, and then ended up unironically enjoying it. Though I wish there was better difficulty, but it's still a fun button-masher with some surprisingly interesting writing.
DOA is essentially the fighting game for that. Sure it's got some shameless sexualization and bouncing titties but when you combine that into a fun gameplay system (and an extremely rewarding counter and grab system) it becomes something that you're not embarassed to be playing. Also, because Ryu Hayabusa is probably sexier than the women. Look at that beast of a man. Mm.

Honestly, I actually really like the idea of unlockable police reports and the like as a storytelling method for large cast-centric games such as fighting games. Fits really well with this very chuuni fighting game premise I've been kicking around in my head.
That said, the fact that you have to grind points for them and also use the same points for getting other unlockables to buy the reports is... unpleasant, and you really need _something_ to latch onto and find enjoyable and interesting about the characters without needing to read these; else it's like "why should I bother unlocking and reading this?".

Hell envisioned as a maximum security prison, characters are all people from across the world and time who committed sins of varying atrocity in life (though to give a frame of reference, one of the "cleanest" characters still beat his wife to death), and they're competing in a fight-to-the-death tournament being held for the entertainment of the demonic staff and the other "inmates", with the prizes for the champion being any wish of their choice and being brought back to life.
It would have worked better in an beat-'em-up maybe?
@@TeruteruBozusama Assuming you meant my first post, I'd say the fundamental issues with how Girl Fight did it are that the characters simply aren't memorable enough for anyone to be interested in seeing their backstories, and that making their backstories compete with the other unlockables for what you're spending your in-game currency on is really terrible.
The genre doesn't really change either issue.

You know how there are games where the names aren't really all that great and drags the game down? This is one of them and more.

I mostly played chaos and they did have hidden moves, I triggered one with chaos but I honestly couldn’t figure out how I did it. I did a combo of around 10-12 hits and the chaos launched the opponent and pulled out an rpg to blast the opponent away. Me and my buddy were both like “how the hell did you do that?”
Mini what happened from a former majesco qa guy here:
This game was part of a contract with us doing another game with the developer. They did a game for us and we published this for them kinda deal. This game was sooo bad in test. We had a bunch of people on our qa team that regularly played fighting games on lunch break and knew the genre. We were writing bugs up along the lines of "the combo meter still goes up but if the opponent blocks midway thru it gets blocked and therefore its not a true combo." There were also some silly interactions with a certain person on the development team in the bug database.
Edit: oh yeah the best part of testing this was discovering i think it was the design doc for the game. Apparently several of the girls likenesses were "inspired by" certain internet porn stars.
Edit 2: after talking to a fellow former coworker he remembered it was suicide girls, and how he didn't think they had permission for the likenesses.

I remember a video of the top ten worst fighting games (Shaq-Fu was number one on it. Feels so long ago.) mentioning this game and bringing up:
1: The game was weirdly hard to find.
2: The characters all use the same base model.
and 3: Warchild is 17.

So, there's this fighting game from 1976 called Heavyweight Champ made by Sega that is literally THE very first game ever made where two fighters face off against each other. If I'm not mistaken, it's actually Lost Media, but there does exist some gameplay footage from a news report from 1977. There is only 1 known cabinet still in existence, & it has a smashed bezel & seems to be nonfunctional. I know you really dont cover Lost Media or anything, but i thought that was pretty interesting & just wanted to share 😊

Oh man, i always get so giddy when Matt uploads. ESPECIALLY when it's TWFG.
Gotta be honest, kinda shocked at how relatively restrained the body types were. But the problem was that they all seemed to sit within a set of narrow bounds, their costuming was largely pretty similar and the theming really didn't come through.
Outside of Skullgirls and Fight Angel, there are also Arcana Hearts, but those games are actually good.
Should definitely review "Bikini Karate Babes" too, and yes that was a real, non porn game! Lol

I played Spartacus, not like extensively, but for a couple weeks like 10 years ago, I honestly never thought I would hear of it's existence again just because it wasn't good enough to be that memorable, and not horrible enough to be like, a video essay about.
Finding fighting babes cool truly is a curse as proven by SO MANY all-female fighting games just absolutely sucking.

It usually ends up being a game made for the horniness first, gameplay second. KOF, Tekken, Street Fighter and especially DOA all have their horniness and characters we all think are hot as fuck, but the fact the game is put first and they're just additions is why the game ends up being, y'know, good.

Is it just me or do all of the characters look like identical models? All the same height, wearing the same heels, the same hips, waist and bust and very similar faces. Only the clothing and hair actually appears to be different.

All I remember is this game lead to the meme "Just grab her, you idiot!" over in Maximillian Dood's chat. The gang were in the arcade ladder and Steve hit a bit of a wall with one of the bosses. Someone in chat politely informed them the AI couldn't counter throws. Skeptical, Steve tried it and lo and behold, the AI was that bad.
i LOVED spartacus legends when i was a kid because it was free, but also because of the execution mechanics. casually popping some guy's head off like i'm scoring a flash knockout in a UFC game felt so good to me then

I absolutely played Spartacus Legends back in the day. Besides being a Freemium game, it wasn't half bad.

holy crap, I was actually thinking about Fight Angel by the end. both games look very similar indeed, but Fight Angel had the guts to go all-in with the sex-appeal aspect by having the characters go completely "naturel" as the match progresses (idk about the Steam version, I pirated it once to see how it was)

The techno bopper during the Mechanics section reminds me a lot of the “BEEP BOOP BOOP BOP BOOP” track from the SpongeBob episode “Robot Krabs”. Also, the transition music between sections also reminds me of the opening riff to Falling In Reverse’s “Zombified”

I played Spartacus Legends.
It went as these games often do. Decent early game. Nice progression and then enemy power creep so extreme that you HAVE to spend money to make further progress. And if I remember correctly your fighters could die or get hurt so if you had a great fighter you could lose him forever. Cant remember how much fun it was to actually play though.
Man, this makes me want to go back & play Rumble Roses on Xbox 360 again just to cleanse the palette.

One another good game in the same kind of fighting game genre is the Asuka 120% series. I usually don't like fighting games for reasons, but it was one of the few ones I could get myself into, alongside with most of the Touhou fighting games (the first few ones were pretty rough at the edges, the later ones are great games).
Hisoutensoku has some charm and Hopeless Masquerade is good fun.
It's amazing how many bad fighting games there are, but @MattMcMuscles how about a show where you discuss some of the more obscure and fun fighting games that people never really heard of???
Flying Dragon, Gundam Wing: Endless Duel and Touhou Hisoutensoku would be a great start :D
