    Now it’s a fashion channel? That Pumpkin Spice Pilot Shirt is what elevates! I see you still haven’t learned to not tell all of your setup info. Telling us all of the secret setup tips and how to’s!… Don’t do this… Do this!…. Do that. The only thing I found that I couldn’t use in this latest vid is what the crows were trying to communicate in the back ground. And that vacuum switch at the end! Never ending quality everything every time I click. Representing Georgia and whatever your flying at the moment like a Landscape Rockstar. Makes me realize I will only ever be a mere mortal. Gonna go pickup a 24 pack and ponder greatness. 😁👍🏻✌🏻🏁

    Hi Adam, as always great video! But this 3200 Spektrum seems to weight around 540-545g. That ist at least 40g more that a 3300 HRB or an Ovonic 3300 which both I have (505g HRB, 495g Ovonic and there are lighter ones too). But you´re right that probably the Spektrum ones can hold voltage and power better. I have done many home thrust tests and the results are very interesting. Normally more heavy leads to more power. There isn´t too much magic but money can make something too :P

      Man any good 3200 or 3300 will do. I have quite a few HRB's. They are great for sport and scale flying, not as good for EDF's. For EDF's I've had good luck with Pulse, Spektrum, and Gens Ace. I hear the SMC packs are good too, but I haven't tried them yet.

    Great flights - a very nice follow up from both of you. You had a bunch of crows screeching with envy - fear or something. I like your observations about the lighter weight packs and performance. I have been using some lighter packs at times and I find that my flight times are not greatly different, but the handling is much better.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 місяців тому

      Thanks man! It is interesting...in a lot of planes the flight times are much lower with the smaller packs, but in some not as much. Surprising when that happens with an EDF. Might be the nature of 70mm vs the 80's and especially the 90's I've flown.

    Tumbling benefits two ways with the lighter pack; CG further aft as you mentioned, and a lower rotational moment of inertia, from being lighter/less mass.
    I’ve not yet ventured into EDFs due to limited space/runway where I am now. This one looks like a good entry to them, when I solve that problem.
    Great vid as usual, Adam; thanks!

    It was interesting to hear you mention flight times and throttle management. Kinetic energy from maneuvers and dives can carry an edf a long way with little to no throttle and extending the length of the mah usage and flight times. I do this a lot. I call it not flying around with your hair on fire constantly lol. Nice revisit of the 70 and explanation Adam.

    I like the Spectrum batteries myself. I get a ribbing here and there for buying them when there are less expensive options but the fact they are lighter and more compact is just the beginning. I also like the smart info the batteries provide.I can program in items like what storage/discharge numbers, the amount of time to initiate discharge if I don't use them for a while and exception reports for events such as overheating and critical discharge figures. I recommend the XBC100 Smart Checker and Servo Tester. Both the batteries and checker are updatable as well. A brother from NJ.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  5 місяців тому

      I like the SMART features as well, although I storage charge them myself always. That gets them to the optimal voltage safer and faster than using the automatic feature. They are expensive for sure, but so far they have worked well for me. There's a lot of good batteries out there, but many modelers have strong feelings about the whole conversation. Lol. I say buy what you want, be safe with them, and have fun.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Yupper! If I know that I'll be storing them for a long time then yes I will definitely do the storage charge as well. Forgot to mention that.
      I have the Spektrum S2200 Smart Charger which works really well. A quick story about it: I bought it and noticed the bottom casing fell out! I notified Spektrum customer service and they immediately sent me a new one. I then repaired the first one with Gorilla Glue and now I have two of them!!!! LOL!!!! I highly recommend Spektrum for their customer service as well.....

    Love your flying skills and knowledge. I’m flying the FMS Viper with a 100amp Avian ESC in it so I gained Pack voltage and reverse thrust too. It’s a awesome EDF Jet no matter what one one would choose. I do think Quality control on the EFlight model is far superior but to each there own opinion. Great video. I fly mine on a SMC 3600 mAh HVLI pack. Balance is spot on C.G and flight time is a easy 4:00 since you have way more power on hand at 1/2 throttle. Try a pack I think you’ll be sold like I was. Happy flying .

    • @ModelAV8RChannel

      Thanks Bill! I've heard good things about the SMC's. I plan to try some of their regular packs at some point. I have stayed away from any of the HV packs for a couple of reasons. One is I'm happy with the power on my planes and the other is I have some older planes set up with very little margin for extra voltage. Curious, other than extra power is there an advantage to the HV packs?

    • @waymaker_rc_club
      @waymaker_rc_club 7 місяців тому

      Yes many advantages. SMC packs don’t sag. They offer full power until the end. Also they are lighter for the same MAH pack. The 4000 spektrum is 625g where the smc 4400 is 592. I’d say it’s a win win win. The 3600 smc being 485 grams vs spektrum 3200 at 545. Also seems across the board about 20$ cheaper.

    Thanks for the updated info. But, I'm not surprised by it. I'm a strictly Spektrum Smart fanboy from day one. Haven't let me down, yet.
    I'm wondering if you take off with a plan of maneuvers in mind for these flights, or if you have a mixed "bag of tricks" you dip into depending on the plane and conditions. Just curious.
    Seems like a well planned, precisely technical routine on camera. But, you can't believe everything you see on UA-cam 😊
    Great video, guys 👍

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Al! There are a lot of opinions on batteries for sure. From my experience there are also many that work just fine for the average modeler that isn't abusing them. The SMART packs have been great so far for me. I keep up with battery cycles, and I like the convenience of the SMART tech keeping up with that for me so I don't have to log it. When it comes to the flying it depends. Sometimes it is a well planned flight, and sometimes I wing it. With the Viper I was winging it with the idea in mind to show the speed and climb rate but also get as much flight time as possible. Keeping throttle management in mind.

    Hello again Adam. Great review and impressive flying skills as always. I am looking long and hard at this plane. I would really appreciate your thoughts on a couple of things. Another reviewer said in his video that this 70mm version is much harder to land than the 90mm Viper (my 90 lands great); has this been your experience as well? I am using 4000 Mah 100C in my Habu - will these be suitable for the 70 Viper? Do you possibly have any "in-the-know" info when these will be available for purchase? FMS 15th anniversary version, or wait for the EF...hum? Thank you so much for your insight! Dale.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  8 місяців тому

      The 70 is shipping early November. It is harder to land than the 90 if you are using the heavier batteries...just requires some throttle with your flare so technically harder, but not hard. It also helped to mechanically adjust the elevator for more throw. It feels more like the 90 with lighter packs, but with the right set up it is fine with 4000's.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  8 місяців тому +1

      Hey Brian. Thanks for watching us man! We didn't do a speed test, but she's quick! I have a GPS meter I've sent up with other EDF's and this Viper seems about as fast as my old 80mm Avanti. That one did 114 mph. The two 2200's will fit, but that is going to be a short flight time. Maybe 2 min. or so. I would go with the 3200 6s. It is a good bit lighter and the Viper performs better/lands easier with them. Once you get the throttle management down, you'll get about 4 min, maybe a bit more. I'd set the timer at 3 min at first, then work up to longer flight times. I'm not sure how much EDF experience you have, but at first almost everybody is in the throttle more than they have too be. When I started flying EDF's I didn't get longer flight times at first.

      @@ModelAV8RChannel Thank you Adam. Ill pick up a 3200 6s. I am fairly new too Jets, about about 20-30 flights so far. But I have 50m habu, fms f-15 (ar410), fma futura 60m(ar631), and this Viper when it arrives.
      The Gentlemen at the field I fly all let me fly their jets to get more experience. So far they have let me fly: Cougar, viper 90mm, 80mm Avanti, and a few others. When I first started All I practiced for the first few months was just landing and touch n goes. Once I learned throttle management, all landings became uneventful, aside from the nasty crosswind mishaps.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  7 місяців тому +1

      I do. The Habu is one of the best 1st EDF models out there. If you are looking to go to EDF's as your second plane after a trainer the Habu is the ticket. If you already have some experience with higher performance planes, and you're comfortable with them, then the Viper can make a good first EDF. I would not recommend going from a trainer to the Viper. Hope this helps, happy flying!

      The SMART packs are pricey for sure. So far they have worked great for us, and I like the feature of the battery/charger keeping up with how many cycles the pack has and the battery's condition. Those are things I keep up with in a note pad with other packs. It is a convenience I appreciate. I also like the high charge rate possibilities. We find ourselves in an hurry to get things ready to get to the field for a filming window in the wx, and being able to charge them in 10 to 15 minutes is convenient as well. Hard on the batteries I know, but we gotta do what we gotta do sometimes, Lol. As we said though, the Viper performs on other batteries as well and whatever features and price range a pilot can afford or chooses to go with will be fine.

    I just purchased the FMS Viper. Its my first EDF. They recommend a 3300 too. Should I get a 3300 to start? The high speed is not a priority now but I do want it properly balanced. And of course I have (6) 4000 HRB 6s packs like the one you did the maiden flight with. I am not opposed to spending the money. If it makes it handle better it would be worth it.

    • @ModelAV8RChannel
      @ModelAV8RChannel  9 місяців тому

      It will be nose heavy with the 4000's, but you can set up around that. On the 3300's it will balance properly, have more vertical, speed, and slow down better as a result of less weight. Flight times will depend on how you manage energy and the throttle. It is a better plane on the 3300's in my opinion. Throttle management takes a bit to learn with EDF's. Since this is your first, I'd set your timer to 2 1/2 minutes. You'll slowly adjust that to more time as you learn. At first we are all in the throttle a bunch! Lol.

      I think the timer is set to 4 1/2 min. Our timer is programmed to start/stop at 16% throttle. The video of the flight is 6 1/2, but that doesn't account for throttle management. On most down lines I'm off the throttle.
