- My First Jet FMS Viper V2
My first jet - the FMS Viper V2. In this video I will cover the FMS Viper V2 electric ducted fan jet. This is an amazing product. Literally four parts that screw together. All servos are installed, all control hinges in place, nothing to do except assemble and go fly.
I took two days to build this model. If I were asked to construct a second Viper, I could literally put it all together and be ready to fly in 30 minutes. The kit is that complete.
The EPO foam is very tough and seems resistant to dings and hangar rash. The cockpit area has plenty of room for your receiver and battery. For the plug and play version you will need to add a receiver, transmitter and a lipo battery. Everything else is included.
This is my first RC electric ducted fan jet and I think the Viper V2 is an ideal transition candidate for the first time RC jet pilot. The recommended 6 cell lipo battery balances the plane right at the center of gravity and provides plenty of thrust.
The Viper handles exceptionally well and there is no lag in control input response. Throttle response is very quick. As with any jet you need to "stay ahead" of the aircraft regarding thrust and not add power at the last minute to salvage an approach. I am completely pleased with this model and look forward to many future flights.

Congrats Tim! Glad to see you Flying EDF
JH: Thanks, it was a lot of fun!! Tim
This guy is legendary! Really good informative videos and a lot can be learned from him. Good stuff!
Anthony: Glad you enjoyed it! Tim
Now your talking! I have one of these and it's extremely LOCKED in and fly's amazing! After the demise of my Habu today I'll be flying the viper for sure!
Viper is a neat machine. 😊 Tim
Just ordered mine. This video was both helpful and encouraging. thank you
Hey, best of luck, it is a neat jet. Tim
@2:33 ''I've never flowned a jet...'' Good one Mr McKay !! You should say '' ...a jet as small as this '' Very interesting video, as always ! Thank you !
Glad you enjoyed it! Tim
Nice Tim. Thanks
Thanks! Tim
Thank you . 🇬🇧
😊👍🏻 Tim
Great job! It is an awesome jet! I love mine!
😊👍🏻 Tim
Oh no, Edfs…..I have been hesitantly thinking about stepping into these waters. Now my UA-cam friend has one….looks like I have no choice/excuse anymore 😅.
Thank you for the video Tim.
I hope my like and comment helps you out.
Michael: It does! The Viper is a lot of fun, looking forward to future flights. Flies very well, maybe give it a try! Tim
Looks great.
😊👍🏻 Tim
It's fun to watch your videos. I'm learning a lot from you. I also do not have an edf yet. Thanks again for your time
William: Thanks for watching! Tim
Nice work Tim!
Thank you! Cheers! Tim
Interesting choice of model for you Tim, good for you though, I wonder if your cameraman got a little nervous on your landing 🤔👍
Cliff: My lovely wife does all the camera work. With the larger and faster models, she has learned to duck. 😁 Tim
Great first EDF flight Tim, I am sure you will master jets now. Great job 🫡
Dad: Thanks so much for checking in! Tim
Nice video Tim. Two things: the servos get plugged into the “receiver” not the servo, and there was an EC5 battery connector at the beginning, but an XT60 in the middle. Did you change it?
Thanks on the servos! Yes, I use XT60 connectors, made the change.
I had a jet before. It was a f4 phantom powered by a Saito 40 on the front 😂.
Awesome!! Tim
My Viper 70mm 15th anniversary edition is coming, this will be my first edf jet too. Did you put any flight stabilisation on you viper?
I did not use stabilization. The Viper flies well, is an “honest” airplane. Use half flaps for takeoff, full flaps for sure on landing. Fly a steady final approach, lower than normal, OK to carry some power on final. With idle power and full flaps, jet will drop in (no real glide or flare). Tim
Thanks for the tips Tim.
That looked like a rough landing. Have you had better landings since?
Cut me a little bit of slack. 😁 My first EDF jet landing, one bounce in the infield not too bad!! Tim
@@TimMcKay56 Oh, of course I am. But my question was, how's it going now? I hope you've flown it again, or it's not wrecked by now, lol.
@@aragorn318 Viper flies great, could not be any happier. 😊
@@TimMcKay56 Yeah, I've been eyeing this one too. But a guy at my field maidened his viper 90 over the weekend and ended up damaging it due to a bouncy landing on pavement.
@@aragorn318 Jet does scoot along. 😊
Great video. For me, jets are just not relaxing to fly.
AA: I certainly get it. But nice to try something completely different. 😁 Tim
"This is my first jet flight, I'm a little bit nervous." Well if a man who flew real commercial jets still gets nervous flying RC, I guess I have nothing to feel bad about! I'm still fairly new to RC planes and get a little anxious before flying. I'm sure it will be old hat eventually. Thanks for another great video, Tim! 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Stan: Hey, no simulator for this sucker!! 🫢🙀😊 Tim
