Brian, I'm a lead professional drone Pilot for the Los Angeles City Fire Department and have my own Ariel UAS business. I just got into RC planes because of you and the camera crew. I just want to say thank you for all that you do. I am fully addicted to this and look forward to many more of your informational videos. My first flight was July 30 with the Carbon Cub S 1.3m and now I own and fly five different RC planes. Thank you for all that you're doing.
So glad to hear this Derrick! This is so cool, and very glad you're making a move into Fixed Wing - isn't it a blast!?!? Glad you're here with us, and some day, I would love to hear more about your Firefighting experience.
For sure! We love to share when repairs go well ;) Sometimes we don't get so lucky, but WHO WANTS TO PAY to fix this stuff???!??! I'm sure Horizon Hobby would cringe like crazy seeing this, but too bad so sad - the serviceability of this and the F-16 80mm, to me...HUGE selling points!
Totally a shame that you just don’t enjoy flying this plane. Another great video of an awesome jet and it’s pilot. I love seeing and hearing your enthusiasm. Thank you both once again. God bless.
This is the reason I watch your videos. Good honest videos that show the "work in progress" learning a new plane. Keep up the good work. P.S. Brian you do good work too. 😁
When working with aluminum like this with that type of damage where you think it will possibly break, it's always good to add a bit of heat from a torch to the area and part to make it more malleable and less prone to damage. Nice fix to the gear regardless, but it's now extremely compromised and weakened for extended use.

My co-worker used to work and live near Jacksonville FL and he worked on the bases there (doing what we both do here now - working on scales) and he said the same thing. Love hearing the sound of $10,000's of worth of jet fuel burning for no apparent reason...I generally don't like government waste, but good lordy lord...just the sound is worth it ;) As for flight time...on an EDF it's all about HOW you fly. You could get a short 3.5 min flight, but if you go up and sail it in you could stretch your times...but who's gonna do that - LOL :) I'm gonna be balls to the walls 100% throttle for about 50-75% of the flight, and then 100% throttle on landings now - LOL - don't come in with a dead pack and expect reverse thrust to help ;) I should say, I'm completely guessing on the 3.5min - gotta gauge it from my videos, but you WILL get a "Critically Low" battery warning if you're careful to set up your Telemetry Warnings in Audio Events...

Don't rush it. There will be amazing EDF jets when you're ready. If you push it, these planes are dream killers!!! I know the feeling of wanting to get right in there, but you will be so much happier if you can hold off for a while longer and possibly start with something super simple like the Habu 70mm - so easy to fly, it's almost not even an EDF ;)

Brian, maybe you've been asked that a lot, but haven't you ever been hit the power line? Well, I would crash in there every time! :) The Viper is so beautiful! Must have! :)
yes, several times. Carbon Z Cub SS 2.1m - kept flying for 5 minutes Cessna Citation UMX - Crashed, and flying again later that night I can't remember another... I DID crash FULL SPEED into one of the power poles with the Maule 1.5m too - but not exactly the power lines.
Hey Brian I watched your build and radio setup of this jet. I put the CG were you had yours. But its like really really tail heavy. I moved the Battery all the way up to the front to give it a more balanced CG. I haven't flown it yet, been snowy and cold here in Indiana. My question, is it suppose to be that tail heavy. I had another one of the Viper 90's but the servo burnt out while in flight so crashed. The local hobby store did replace it. And that is how I have the new one now. On the first one I watched your build video and the battery I believe was placed more towards the center of the tray. So I cant imagine what would have changed that drastic to have to put the battery all the way in the front of the tray now.
I like the jet's CG to be as far back as I can tolerate to help with flare on landings, otherwise, you'll be flat at best on final....BUT you've got flaps and reverse thrust!
Same happened to me the other day, bent the strut on a rough landing, but fixed it like you did. I also noticed the suspension is a tad to soft. You think it would be possible to replace the spring inside the suspension?
You can take it out, and plop some FILLER in there if you want to make it harder. I like it softer...I'd be included to cut them down by 1/3 and make it even softer...but still not "modifying" this beauty ;)
Excellent, video. I must have this PLANE! Looks like flying butter in the sky when you fly. BTW, at 7:10 you may call these "snap rings" circular retaining rings, tomato, potato. You did a fantastic job fixing the landing gear and getting the "camber" almost perfect. You're truly the modern-day MacGyver of RC repair! 🙂 Curious, when you use reverse thrust in this Viper 90mm, it doesn't mess with the internal wiring or any of the electronic components? I imagine it whips up quite a storm in the fuselage.
I was cringing when you were working on those e-clips. There is a tool that makes removal much easier. Dynamite makes it and it handles 1.5mm - 5mm. Here is an important truism - The right tool makes a difficult job easy but the wrong tool makes an easy job DANGEROUS. Loved watching you fix the gear. Good job and thank you for sharing your mistakes and triumphs.
Thanks for your videos, they are very useful. I would like to ask you, wouldn't it have been better to use a seeger pliers with a small magnet attached to it (of the kind found in electric motors) to avoid losing it? So, do you think it is not suitable for the grass runway? Greetings from Italy.
Got my Viper 90mm together. For some reason my flap servos are running "HOT"! All the others are fine. It would be odd that that both flap servos are bad and all the others are good. You have any suggestions? I'm running a Frsky system.
Is reverse thrust available to be added to a 70mm Viper I use a gravel runway and slowing down can be tough sometimes with what would I need to do to have this feature Brian
I would second the idea of gravel not being a great idea on the 70mm...it already suffers from nose gear issues as stock, BUT there's some mods using FMS gear to fix this, but it's not cheap. As for what you ACTUALLY need...look at the link for the ESC in this Timber Evo ;) You need the Avian and you'll need to get the right SIZE, since there's a bunch of them out there now. You will set it up JUST like I did with this plane (the 90mm), but Borat's Cousin is correct that you'll need a fresh channel for it, FYI.
These Viper models kinda remind me of the full size F-5s and T-38s. Which I'm not sure if any manufacturer has done a model of those? Idea for future E-flite model!
Same channel used for controlling the Thrust Reverse. It's more about MIXING. It's pretty easy to setup, if you go back ONE video, I believe I cover the whole process on that last one. (I do a "refresher" in this video too...I thought)
I heard the MFG was digging their head further into their butts, which is why they're out of stock - What a bummer!!!!!!! This plane is so good, and it deserves to be here now getting flown!!!
Can u charge these smart batteries on a charger that not the smart charger?? I juss bought the umx ultrix 600 mm and I’m having trouble finding batteries for it. Aside from the smart batteries but don’t have the money for the smart charger. I have the lectern duo pro….?
DUDE IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT. I NOW OWNE A MA A FUTRABA 90 MM, A 10 WARTHORG both are in repair. ill post pics later and i got a BRAND NEW XTEMBER NIGHT WING "BUTIFUL" AND I GOT A USED 2 METER TRAINER NITRO, I GOT SO MUCH STUFF, THANKS I NEED IT🤣 LOL @@BrianPhillipsRC
Nice that you could fix that gear. I see they cost fifty bucks. A couple of those post landings were hard enough to show the gear is still strong. I know you won't but maybe somebody will buy a C-clip tool for you.
Brian says he gonna make this Jet his biotch 😁😂 Not in those exact words of course lol If I flew as much as you Brian and owned that field in the back I'd definitely make a runway back there It's not to far to walk or you could ride the electric scooters or bikes I'd get that stuff the TestFlite guys use I forget the name of it but it's easy to put down and easy to take up if ya want to move it or put it up for winter etc I'm pretty sure they leave theirs down year round It's really tough material from what I hear I could set and watch you land and take off all day It's pretty exciting watching you drop in over the trees or navigate under the power line and dodge all the little bushes and trees and try to get it straight at the same time I'm sure it's pretty dang challenging and fun AF at the same time lol so maybe you like the challenge so much you don't feel the need for a bigger better laid out runway meaning ya don't have to drop down so fast and get lined up Sorry for writing a book lol I get excited talking about planes I can't shut up hehe Kinda reminds me of someone on YT 🙄 lol Love the 90MM That thing is awesome I wouldn't be able to shut up flying that thing either I'd be F bombing like crazy 😁 Nice fun flying vid Brian Thanks to Camera Crew's great skills of tracking a dot in the sky she made it very enjoyable to watch 🔥 Everybody should really appreciate Camera Crew If it wasn't for her this wouldn't be half as good 👍 Again sorry for the long comment 🤪 lol ✌️
@@BrianPhillipsRC There are a few videos of harrier landings with the f16 from eflite. The 70mm one . They literally land at 5 mph and roll a few feet. I am planning to make that my second edf. The eflite f15 will be my beater for windy days.
Somebody ( Brian ) looks like get the hang of it on edf do ya😁?! Love jets ( scale only ) , maybe one day Horizon will do a replica of a real one ( no, the f-16 or mig aren’t)
To start off, I was spending about $200-$300 each month. This was enough to get a new plane about every month. I also bought a LOT of parts....LOTS and LOTS of parts. I still have TONS of little crap downstairs that I draw from when I need to fix something. I was very bad about going to Hobbyking and buying loads of little things I didn't need, but later I found it very helpful to have it around when I needed them...BUT I would have been better off to just buy stuff that I KNEW I needed. As for how much to get started now, you could be in the air for maybe $300-500 for a nice setup with charger, transmitter, and plane, and a spare battery. Another $500 would get you into a nice charger and a few more batteries. So...it's not Cheap at the beginning, but you can spread out a lot of the spending and get a long ways with your first few planes. Here's my "Beginner List"... RC Sim bit.ly/3q5rSUF ...P.S. the simulator is expensive, but you WILL save as much as you spend on it in one year from saving a plane...unless you're a complete natural and never make mistakes ;)
That's the thing. I bought the HABU STS for my first plane, and after crashing it a BUNCH of times, I can now fly in expert mode all the time now. I'm never in beginner mode. Also capable of flying inverted the hole flight if I wanted to without crashing. What would be a good second bush or retractable landing gear plane?

Got my Viper 90mm together. For some reason my flap servos are running "HOT"! All the others are fine. It would be odd that that both flap servos are bad and all the others are good. You have any suggestions? I'm running a Frsky system.
Amazing flight and video tahnk you… can you give details about the 7000 battery.. is it 30C ?
Is reverse thrust available to be added to a 70mm Viper I use a gravel runway and slowing down can be tough sometimes with what would I need to do to have this feature Brian
Don’t use a viper in gravel.
Not much choice I use what I got and thanks for the tip
@@tylersrcflightschool9570 there is a landing gear upgrade for the viper 70mm there’s your tip . It’s around 40 bucks
Reverse thrust.. wow..
Are the landing gear rubber or plastic?
They're foam. Stock tires. Low Bounce would be real nice, and might help on this plane a bit.
Bad ass man
Thanks Shane!
These Viper models kinda remind me of the full size F-5s and T-38s. Which I'm not sure if any manufacturer has done a model of those? Idea for future E-flite model!
slip slip slip wooooooo!
oh yeah!
What brand of volt meters do you use?
Whatever is closest to my right hand ;)
If you mean, the XBC Checker & Servo Tester bit.ly/3e8mnA6 - it's Spektrum, and I love it!
Idk if you’ve said this before but how many channels do you need for pilot fatigue?
Same channel used for controlling the Thrust Reverse. It's more about MIXING. It's pretty easy to setup, if you go back ONE video, I believe I cover the whole process on that last one. (I do a "refresher" in this video too...I thought)
@@BrianPhillipsRC ah gotcha. I’ll check it out!
Next shipment in March 2022 glad you got it fixed or your $600 EDF would be collecting dust in your garage.
I heard the MFG was digging their head further into their butts, which is why they're out of stock - What a bummer!!!!!!!
This plane is so good, and it deserves to be here now getting flown!!!
Pretty
Sure is! Love this plane. I hope you get one Tim.
Can u charge these smart batteries on a charger that not the smart charger?? I juss bought the umx ultrix 600 mm and I’m having trouble finding batteries for it. Aside from the smart batteries but don’t have the money for the smart charger. I have the lectern duo pro….?
You can if they're equipped with a balance lead (Gen1) ...if not, you'll need to use a SMART Charger.
You almost pulled a Zane!
Almost ;) LOL!!!!
Your runway is like landing at the old Kai Tak airport in Hong Kong.
Very cool! I need a few more sky scrapers ;)
It didn't look that Badder landing for that amount of damage Brian?.
I knew as soon as she was slopping over, something bad was gonna happen ;)
WOW
Thanks!
Better to bend the landing gear (which is replaceable) than to rip it out of the wing...... (Landing gear set ~ $50)
Nice that you could fix that gear. I see they cost fifty bucks. A couple of those post landings were hard enough to show the gear is still strong. I know you won't but maybe somebody will buy a C-clip tool for you.
LOL - I usually try to annoy my viewers into buying tools for me - LOL ;)
👍
thanks!
Brian says he gonna make this Jet his biotch 😁😂 Not in those exact words of course lol If I flew as much as you Brian and owned that field in the back I'd definitely make a runway back there It's not to far to walk or you could ride the electric scooters or bikes I'd get that stuff the TestFlite guys use I forget the name of it but it's easy to put down and easy to take up if ya want to move it or put it up for winter etc I'm pretty sure they leave theirs down year round It's really tough material from what I hear I could set and watch you land and take off all day It's pretty exciting watching you drop in over the trees or navigate under the power line and dodge all the little bushes and trees and try to get it straight at the same time I'm sure it's pretty dang challenging and fun AF at the same time lol so maybe you like the challenge so much you don't feel the need for a bigger better laid out runway meaning ya don't have to drop down so fast and get lined up Sorry for writing a book lol I get excited talking about planes I can't shut up hehe Kinda reminds me of someone on YT 🙄 lol Love the 90MM That thing is awesome I wouldn't be able to shut up flying that thing either I'd be F bombing like crazy 😁 Nice fun flying vid Brian Thanks to Camera Crew's great skills of tracking a dot in the sky she made it very enjoyable to watch 🔥 Everybody should really appreciate Camera Crew If it wasn't for her this wouldn't be half as good 👍
Again sorry for the long comment 🤪 lol ✌️
“I’m not sure if this is bendable or not.”
U proved it out before the repair…definitely bendable.
LOL - Yep
In the Air Force we used to call those "Jesus clips" cause more often than not you'd curse getting them off, lol
I've heard this too Boart's Cousin :) Either way, there would be loads of cursing if we weren't filming the procedure ;) LOL
Landing a 90mm in a driveway lol dude you kill me lol.
Ali with HH was landing it in like 15 feet or some crazy such thing....I want to be like him when I grow up ;) LOL
I would love more scale jets from Eflite. They are always some of the best.
Haven’t watched yet. Hoping you tell us some grass growing facts. ;)
LOL!!!
“I know that rhymed, I didn’t mean it” ANYBODY WANT A PEANUT?
(Princess Bride quote)
Exactly - so glad you GET me ;)
How much money did you have to save to get into the hobby. ?
Here's my "Beginner List"...

...remember, we all start somewhere, and getting a simulator before you have a plane to keep the fire under your seat, will be a ticket to procrastination, but you can do that too to get started, but I suggest it when WINTER comes for the first year of flying, so you can keep flying EVERY DAY.
RC Sim bit.ly/3q5rSUF
...P.S. the simulator is expensive, but you WILL save as much as you spend on it in one year from saving a plane...unless you're a complete natural and never make mistakes ;)
Jajajjajajajaj,. That ride a say that where you going a say a go to fly o crashe jajajjaja that the only way to learn 👍
Okay ;)
You have to machine the part.
Have you ever thought of fpv ing the plane for the landing I d bet it be orsome. But then what would I know. Has iv never flown one . Love all your vids Mr SURESH PATEL UK ENGLAND UNITED
I have thought about it, but I can't technically share that footage...I CAN do it for fun, but when I put it up on a monetized channel...this would require me get a part 107 from the FAA (I know...it's totally stupid, but true)
@@BrianPhillipsRC Thanks ever so much for your reply. And yes what a great shame dam the FAA would spoil our wonderful hobby. You know iv only just been into watching your channel and videos. Although I'm into all rc hobbies. Has well has my first love for drones and fpv drones. But you have got me hooked on the plane s and jets . And i thank you and camera crew and your lovely family too God bless. And keep on doing amazing job and bringing us all this wonderful new planes and these EDF jets . Kind regards Suresh 😎
Brian, we all set our new Viper's up with Pilot Fatigue switches as you taught us. It works amazing, it's a real game changer! I hope you don't mind me posting a link to our video, we gave you lots of credit! Viper 90 flights with breaking and Pilot Fatigue Breaking! Filmed in HD. What an amazing airplane.

No problem - works so good, doesn't it!??!?
use grease with those clips
Heat it up a bit
I really really want one of these ... It's so difficult for me to cough up the $600 tho ...
I get it, but this plane is very good! Don't forget the $200 battery ;( At least you can use it for the other $600 planes you can't live without ;)
SHITGEAR!!! THAT TIRE WAS LAST TO TOUCH
I was super impressed with the serviceability...not exactly a greasy landing ;)

yes
Make it your BITCH!
YES - but I can't say that "on the air" ;) I always tell Esteban to do that with his planes to encourage him, when they're kicking his butt ;)
