Yes Nikki you are right as someone from birmingham we do replace most things ending in er with an a. example butter - butta tomorrow - tomorra water - wata. lol
Another awesome video. Just watched your reactions to the Equalizer films, SO GOOD! If you guys haven't seen it yet, would you do a react vid for a action movie called From Paris With Love? Came out in 2010 with John Travolta and Jonathon Meyers.
freddie passed of pestilence mentioned at the funeral speech, it was equivalent to the plague
also pretty sure i read that the reason it happened was that the actor wanted to go shoot a movie
@@tylerdodge6905 Freddie became an actor? That is great.
Also I suspect they wanted more room to introduce another “extraordinary character” from episode 2 onwards
A Plaque is commemorating the Plague in Prague....
Pestilence just means any illness. Its one of the four horsemen of the apocalypse, alongside Famine, Death, and most relevant War, hence I assume Tommy phrased it that way as a sort of "different horseman than we expected" type of comment
Tommy referring to himself as "The Chosen One" throughout the entire conversation while they have a gun to his head is so funny for some reason
Reminds of the way Alfie says "I'm his friend" to Darby Sabini's assistant in a future episode 💀
Some tidbits:
Freddie died of influenza. The "Spanish Flu" epidemic (the previous 100 year pandemic) killed hundreds of thousands between 1918-1920. Fun fact: It didn't start in Spain. It started in the US.
When John mentions how much money the company makes (150 GBP/day), that's about $3.5 million annual revenue in today's money.
Yup. Most likely an army base in the middle of nowhere. Spanish Flu was really scary because it seemingly killed young, healthy people more often than not. I know Freddie's actor has other obligations, but writing him off as dying by the Spanish Flu was a good idea. 230,000 Brits died from it and about a 1/5th of their population contracted it at some point.
lol hundreds of thousands....try 50 million
you are lowballing that death toll by a hell of a lot, in the US alone it killed over 600,000 people. The general estimate globally is generally 25-50 million, some go as high as 100 million. Hundreds of thousands is even less than covid has killed, current global estimates for that seem to about 3-6 million and covid went pretty well as far as world pandemics go
@@MFBloosh Apparently due to Spain not being a combatant in WW1, there were no restrictions on reporting this pandemic, whereas given especially how many young, often military personnel in combatant nations, were dying until the end of the war it was covered up.
It is now thought to have originated in Kansas among troops departing for Europe where it would really spread.
Nah he died of consumption which is Tuberculosis.
Sabini, the guy who tortured Tommy in the end, played by the same actor who portrayed Locke in Game of Thrones, the guy who was allied with Boltons and the one who cut Jaime's hand.
wasn't he the one killed by Hodor
He was also Hitler in Preacher!
@@GRR1MN1R Correct, he(Hodor) snapped his neck, albeit he was possessed by Bran at the time.
@@ursadabear2810 indeed) he always plays a bit funny roles)
@@ursadabear2810 Preacher is such an under rated show. Preacher walked so The Boys could run, fr.
“By order of the peaky blinders” LETS GO!!!
"By Ordah Ov Duh Paeky Fookin' Bloindas, yeh"
by order of deez nuts
As someone born and bred in Birmingham, yeah, that’s what our accent is like 😂
Yeah, but she was asking about Billy Kimber. Not their fault - the UK is a bit weird in having so many varied accents in such a small space. I mean, she could have been asking about the Birmingham accent, or Northern Irish, or Kimber's cockney accent, or the Lee's gypsy accent.. There's probably a bunch of others I missed.
Fookin' 'el, m8.
The actress who plays Polly said she listened to Ozzy talking for hours to get the accent right. Sometimes it's hard to understand so I put on subtitles.
@@reginaphalange30 haha, I was born here and even I need subtitles at times 😂 especially when they introduce the Black Country accent (which is even more specific to my area) 😂
@@DaveF. ohh right, I must have misunderstood 😅 thanks for clarifying and yeah you’re absolutely right, there are so many varied accents in the show and I can see how they’d all sound similar to the untrained ear 😂 my moms from India originally, she’s been here since like ‘94 and even still she had trouble differentiating 😂😋
They said that "Pestilence took Freddie" in other words, sickness killed him. And during the time where this series took place, the Spanish Flu was raging(which coincidentally was the last major pandemic before Covid).
So he most likely died of the Spanish Flu(Influenza).
It should be said though, that the Spanish Flu did not actually originate from Spain, it came from the US.
Aunqie en realidad no revovó contrato
@@sousamina I'm talking about the character, not the actor.
U are about to meet the best fkn character (the goat actually) of the show,
ALFIE SOLOMONS🖤
My favorite villain in the show by far. Maybe it's cause who plays him, no names will be mentioned cause it's been 2 yrs since I seen it and I forget when he is introduced so to avoid spoilers. but yeah.
The Actor playing Sabini who got his men to remove Tommy’s tooth is Noah Taylor, who is the guy who Played Locke in Game of Thrones, the one who removed Jamie Lannister’s hand… he clearly likes removing body parts,
Each season only gets darker and better! Love you guys
Season 2! I still cannot believe you're doing this. Love from Finland! ❤
Yes, most of the UK accents tend towards having non-rhotic accents which means that their r are softer and become more like vowel.
So instead of Peaky Blinders it usually becomes Peaky Blindah(or Bloindah).
And Billy Kimber, like you said becomes Billy Kimbah.
Basically their R's become exasperated
Kimber was more of a side character. Campbell was the villain.
Let's go! Always excited for your reactions! Noticed you mentioned the intro music a couple of times and im sure you already now it by now, but it's Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds - Red Right Hand ❤️
When I hear that song now in Dumb and Dumber or Scream it always cracks me up 😂
You guys have got a lot of surprises in store. Great writing, great acting - Peak - Peaky Blinders
For the question about how he was holding the shotgun:
A "C" grip is not commonly used/known among people that don't shoot / don't shoot much, but if you're into firearms, a C-grip is much more often used. I have never seen someone hold a shotgun with what looks like a type of C-grip but the waiter's is not what is commonly used. The C-grip I know is where your wrist is to the side/underside of the barrel. It looked like a double-barrel, so that could possibly be a tactical hold in order to immediately drop the barrel and reload upon firing and/or it is probably to help reduce recoil, as it doesnt look like he had that thing shouldered but closer to his waist, and shotguns, especially large caliber and old ones, will have a decent amount of recoil. C-grips are actually a thing and no, you wont burn yourself unless you are firing a LOT of rounds (and on modern firearms, especially rifles, there are picatinny rails and other furniture that often cover the barrel itself). Hope this helped y'all and anyone else out!
So can one assume that the waiter was trained to use the "C grip" in the Great War? What's the more common grip called? Finally, what are the benefits of holding a shotgun one way, as opposed to the other? You seem knowledgeable in these matters, & I'm interested.😊
Hey I’m from Leicestershire which is about a 40 minute drive or so from the Birmingham area and u can confirm that most areas of the Midlands UK do change their Er to an A sound in our accents
Arthur saying, "WHO THE FUCKS NEXT" makes me laugh every time
Freddie thorne died of disease - they said it in his funeral speech
Si bno pero en realidad puede haber tenido otros compromisos laborales el actor a eso se refieren
I’m really enjoying this I have to say, even though I’ve watched it around 3 times already I hope I can continue to watch it all with you both again 😊
new member here. been a fan for a long time. love these perks. love your content. keep up the great work !
¡Excelente! Esperaba con ansias poder ver con ustedes esta segunda temporada ❤
i just love you guys so much lol i’m 30 but y’all still feel like my parents 😂 i think because your energies create such a safe space!
Cannot wait for the next episode!
I’ve been meaning to rewatch the show I’m just gonna watch it with yall lol
The peaky blinders use to only wear steel toe capped shoes and a buckle belt and wear the hat but not the blades , the police station that is closed in steelhouse lane where the peaks were in jail is now a museum and have all the photos on a board to what cell they were in .
The women of the area grassed them up as they were fed up off them causing a ruckus all the time .
One of them joined the Birmingham Boys gang after , The church got involved and got the boys into boxing to get rid of the inner problems they had while in the army to get rid of their anger.
The Pub is still there waiting to be opened up again .
Great start to season 2, love your reactions! 👌😊
When ye were saying that Tommy wasn't afraid of the IRA, he was and rightfully so. The IRA at this point was split in the lead up to the Civil War, the Peaky Blinders were a gang in one city. The IRA was an army with over 10,000 fighters, they had contacts and members in every city in the UK and frequently carried out assassinations in British cities. While at this point there was a ceasefire and divisions forming in the IRA, it was well known by everyone in the UK that the IRA could and absolutely would kill you if you crossed them. The Peaky Blinders have their family and some men, the IRA had an army.
I really enjoy your reactions 😊
iirc the actor for Freddy Thawne wasn't able to commit to Season 2 (for whatever reason, actors are busy people) so they had to write him out.
Which to be honest I am slightly happy that happened. My guess is they would’ve continued with him as a frenemy before he would become a full antagonist in a later season. Which would have been extremely predictable. I’m happy with the way it turned out
Oooh, that was the gun he gave Grace too! Nice poetry there
The best reactors back at it again!
Was waiting for this!
I can't wait to see you guys' reaction to a certain character in the next episode 🥖🥖🥖😅
19:16 - the way Esme describes London makes it sound literally like a horror film! And the menacing music just further adds to the thought of "these guys are going into very murky waters"!
Im so happy you guys are reacting to Peaky Blinders!! And that you post the reactions often 😃 Thank you!!
This is an intense story and I really enjoy your passion for the show.
Oh so happy... you continue reacting to PB 💚
Yeah, Grace’s shot was a great twist.
I love your reactions.
He's actually holding it the right way for a sawed-off shotgun - the recoil is so strong it can kick back and blow your own face off.
15:18 - that moment where his overcoat ended up getting stuck on the hook wasn’t scripted! And the red lining is symbolic to show how Tommy will end up if he doesn't tread carefully!
I really love the bakeries in this show. Top notch. Can't wait for the rest of this season.
Cant wait for the next episode, sterling work as always from you both. Nikki I was cringing along with you on the "digging for gold" scene...lol. Can we have a woop woop for 1 of the best intro songs ever "Red Right Hand" by Nick Cave...defo sets the scene. Is up there with "If I Had A Heart" by Fever Ray (Vikings) and Woke Up This Morning" by Alabama 3 (Sopranos)❤
I’m gonna need a new EP everyday👏👏
yeah the blindfold thing was from breaking bad "you know how i know you wont kill him? You went through the effort of blindfolding him"
can't wait untill we get into the later seasons
You missed the scene where tommy said ,,can the chosen one smoke?" 😂😂
Can’t wait for the new character in this season. The show just gets better and better
"Thirty seven." LOL I low key love you Nikkie. Never ever change sweetheart.
Somewhere on that Sabini actor's trophy shelf is a Shelby tooth and a Lannister hand. Not bad.
Dark is a great word for this series. And as someone has already said Alfie Solomons, the Jewish Gang leader is one of the best things in this series... You won't recognise the actor in character but you KNOW him. I'm so glad that I watching these series YET AGAIN through YOU eyes.... see you in the next episode...
Linguist here, as lots of others have pointed out most British English varieties (accents and dialects) are non-rhotic, meaning they do not pronounce that "R sound" in any word other than if it is followed by a vowel, so you hear that at the end of words like Kimber the /r/ is not pronounced. However it likely still would be pronounced if the next word started with a vowel as linking-r is also common in lots of British English dialects so don't let that one catch you out. You will also notice that the /r/ sound in words like 'hard' are far softer/not pronounced as there is a consonant after the /r/ not a vowel.
With words like 'Kimber' that final vowel preceding the /r/ will usually become what is described as a schwa, which is that very relaxed vowel sound between an "ah" or "uh" you can hear, my sociolinguistic lecturer always said if you want to mimic it just put as little effort into the vowel sound as you can. Though with this Birmingham accent it does sound a little more closer to an 'ah' sound than what I am used to, if I had more knowledge on the Brummy dialect I might be able to explain why that is.
Some British dialects still are rhotic, people from the west country tend to be rhotic still as well as many different Irish and Scottish dialects and accents. Also during the time period this is set in I imagine even people from where Billy Kimber is supposed to be from (Gloucester) would have some rhoticity - speaking from experience as someone from the surrounding county who had older family members who still spoke with rhoticity.
same with Australian accents, we don't pronounce r's often
Some of the outdoor scenes were filmed up the road from me
at the Blackcountry living museum
It was quite odd how that guy was holding the shotgun, however, unless you're firing a semi-auto shotgun in rapid succession, the barrels won't burn your hand. Most 12 gauge shotguns have a chamber pressure of about 10-12,000 PSI. An AR-15 by comparison is around 55,000 PSI.
Peaky Blinders show up, fight the entire club. Leaves drinking a bottle of champagne and throwing a Gypsy spell.
The tooth scene hellnaw
Hi loving you're show I live in birmingham England 🇬🇧 the way we talk is brummie and blinders blinders is a real gang back in the day
I'm from Birmingham, I've had a drink in the Garrison (the real one), yes we do say 'er' as 'ah'. My sister speaks like Aunt Polly when she's on the phone and trying to sound posh.
Love watching American's reactions to Peaky Blinders. Was happy to come across you guys I think you are really cool and funny in your reactions. Looking forward to your reactions to Tom Hardy playing Alfie Solomon. He's hilarious with his quotes as a Cockney Jew. He comes in to the series in episode 2 series 2. Cheers Guys !!
Some great villains in this show. Sabini is definitely a step up - but there are a host of super baddies in store in upcoming seasons. They're so bad they actually make Tommy look good!
I know you are ahead on Patreon but it is almost time for the Party to really get started 😀
I can't wait till you finish season 2 and start seasons 3 & and 4, which are my favourites. By the way , actor paddy considine ( king viserys targaryen in House of the dragon) has a big and interesting role in the 3 season of peaky blinders, can't wait for you to see him too.
Just need to see the reaction to the next episode! ALFIE SOLOMONS!! 🔥🔥🔥
I can’t wait for you to meet alfie!!
And we're off!
ALFIE!!!!! Can't wait for him to waltz into this series. Possibly my favourite character.
Cant wait for the introduction to alfie. My favorite character throughout the show. Great casting choice, and he kills it.
Thomas Shelby doesn't own Fords. At 7:57 Ada says, "Do you know how unfair it is that you've got four Bugattis when half the country's starving?"
If you want a chilled out fun but very good show which still has you on the edge of your seat. I would highly recommend suits.
I think there are around 200 accents, or inflections, throughout Britain.
Love the channel. Watched for a long time. Where you guys at? I know these are older uploads but I'm still wearing hoodies in mid April here in Tennessee. That groundhog is full of shit!
You hold that shotgun that way because it is a double-barrel shotgun with the barrels chopped short, with no buttstock. If the maitre'd hold it the usual way, the gun would kick upward outta his hand due to massive recoil. That's why he held it like that to prevent an inaccurate shot.
You're in for a ride. Season 2 and onwards is nothing compared to 1 - much better by miles, enjoy!
Nikki's hands on the table during the seance 🤣🤣🤣 Love your humor Nikki. From GoT all the way to Peaky😊
Get your seat belts on! You're in for a fun ride! Polly is my fave character. She's the beating heart of the Shelby's and this show!
Watched this series when it first came out and the waiting period between seasons was death
34:00 I just finished the episode my self and this part had me shivering 😮😢
i think in kimber's own accent it's billy kimba-! but in arthur's accent more of a billae kimbuh 🤭🤣
They told you at funeral he died of pestilence.....when Tommy was saying words over his body!
34:20 - the real Darby Sabini was apparently disgusted by razor slashings and cuttings despite his gang being known for it and would walk away as it would happen so he didn't have to witness it!
He also made his name by standing up for a barmaid who had a drink thrown over her and was apparently a protector of women so in real life he wouldn't have ordered his men to grab Ada like that...
Two of my 4 favourite characters get introduced in the next episode (Tommy and Polly are the other two)
Like we had covid, last century had the Spanish flu but with less restrictions killed millions. started in 1918 and ended in 1920 roughly. they used this excuse to kill Freddy as the actor was not available for season 2
ER ending words? Yes we say them as A...as for Freddie..judging by the timeframe eg 1920s he likely died from flu pandemic...
I would love to see you guys react to "the happening "
Lizi is in another show, which you guys would probably enjoy if you get around to it. The Wheel of Time on Prime. She plays a much different character, starting in season 2, but still a main character.
New sub ❤
Each season gets darker
I could hear Esme talking all day, Ranni the Witch 🌑
Hi
❤❤❤❤❤when the next episode coming out yallll .!!?
You're about to meet a great character and one of my favorite actors....
SNOWFALL REACTION CHAIN!!!!
Season 2 is my favourite. Enjoy!
Keep an ear out for that same intro song throughout the series sung in different variations…same song, sung differently, to give a different feel to different situations…it’s awesome how they did it…
Nice reaction! Have you guys ever watched Lost? 🤩
Tommy loves Grace❤
as your enjoying this try SAS Rogue Hero's same writer - the origins of the SAS special forces
Tommy also is not afraid to die. He cant sleep. He doesn't get any joy out of life. That means he can take big risks, without fear.
