  • Today we are checking out the new Mesa Boogie Badlander 25, and pinning it up against it's older sibling the Badlander 100 to see just how different are these two related amps.
    I was really surprised by the Badlander 25. It sound extremely close to it's older sibling. The Badlander 25 seemed to be more mid focused. As the Badlander 100 was a tiny bit more scooped, and almost sounded like it had more presence, but not much.
    The Faceplate of the Badlander 25 is just about identical besides the lack of the Variac, an Bold modes along with the ability to go down to 10watts for easy clipping. Where the Badlander 100 can go down to 50 watts, and even 20 watts.
    The Badlander 25 has an identical back plate besides the lack of the bias switch. so you are stuck with the EL84s, but I think they sound great in this amp!

    I have both of these amps as well and I've noticed that they are more similar than different. If you get a chance take both of them apart, you'll see some more differences. Tonally I think the 100 can do "more" than the 25 can, but the 25 is damn near perfect. The area where the 100 is obviously going to shine is headroom, but the 25 is no slouch. For live playing I find that the 25, if you're using both channels, it'll be tougher to balance a clean and dirty channel at super volume. I'm not saying that it can't be done (don't want anyone to think that) it's just a little trickier than the 100 due to the head room. Excellent production on this, you definitely have it together in that area. Take care.

      I absolutely can agree with this! As far as hi gain tones go I had little to no issue making them sound the same which is absolutely how it should be with them coming from the same family.
      Thank you for commenting and giving more insight on what's inside 😁.
      And thank you so much for tuning in, and watching!

    First of all thanks for your comparison. Really enjoyed listening to the difference. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but i would say that these video has unfortunately a little misunderstanding. Having a look at the front panel of your two amps, you used for the Badlander 25 the 10 watt setting and on the 100 the 50 watt setting. 10 watt to 50 is a huge difference. I would even say that i hear a huge difference between the 10 watt and 25 watt setting. I’m not sure if this is just the video or maybe even the sound recording?

    Wonderful video, as always. Can you please do a follow up video asap where you compare the two amps but adjust the knobs to see how close they can actually get to each other without external assistance.

      Hello! Thank you so much for watching!
      Yes I can look into doing that soon. Just to make sure I understand what you need. You want me to do a quick video with both amps set the same with no pedals, or anything else. And see how close they get?
      I'd be happy to do that!

    • @derekdamager7928
      @derekdamager7928 Рік тому

      Well yeah, starting with the same settings, no pedals or external frequency shaping… then since the 100 is more scooped and fuller sounding in general, maybe try cutting the mids on the 25 and raising the bass to see how close the 25 can sound like the 100. Then vis versa, adding mids to the 100 and cutting bass to see if it starts to sound closer to the 25.

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому

      @derekdamager7928 yeah I can definitely look into doing that.
      In the video I posted yesterday I did have the boost, and noise gate on both amps, but didn't do any other processing to the amps when comparing them.
      But yeah ill look into doing a quick video of that.

    How's the feel of the 100 compare to the 25 in the room? I can definitely hear a difference, while slight to 100 seems a little more exciting to me. Just wondering if there is a different feel in the room? Thanks man, killer job!

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому

      Hey awesome question! The main difference that I felt when playing on them is the 100s breakup felt a bit looser than the 25 that was definitely a tighter sound. And that was the main difference in feel that I noticed.
      And in the video I mentioned that the mids on the 25 seemed more focused. While the 100 sounded a bit more scooped to my ears.
      I did a video about a week after this one where I tried to dial in both amps to get as close of a tone match as I can. Definitely feel free to check that out as well. It might show you even more of the raw tone
      I hope this helps. And thank you so much for watching! 😁

  • @OfficialSNMvids
    @OfficialSNMvids Рік тому +1

    The side by side comparison I much prefer the 100 due to the low mid, slight scooped mid sound and the 25 sounded a little too boxy, high mid focus to my ears. Both amps sound good though and curious if the 25 can hang in a live band practice setting and live stage usage for metal styles I mean. Cool video and guitar playing \m/

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому +1

      Thank you so much for tuning in, and enjoying the video! The 25 watt should be plenty for practice with the band, and definitely enough for a live stage setting. If it was a 25 watt solid state that'd be a little different haha. And yeah the 25 has those boxy mids, but an EQ pedal in the fx loop could definitely help with cutting out some unwanted frequencies.
      Both are awesome amps! 🙂

    Well I'm going tomorrow I have a chance to get a 100-watt I guess I'll find out when I play I'd rather not spend the money and get the 25-watt what's your opinion of course I need it for playing live but I have other 25 watt amps and they are more than loud enough

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому

      Yes the 100 absolutely has more head room for sure. And now that you mention it I can definitely hear the tightness of the 25 I didnt even think of the sound seeming tighter, but yeah that makes sense to me. Thank you so much for watching!!

    • @guitarlair
      @guitarlair Рік тому

      I have a hard time liking these mini versions of the big amps simply because they don't sound big enough to my ears. IMO they fit 3 purposes which are: saving money ( even tho I find these amps pricy af), having something that has a little taste of the voicing of the big amp and last but not least they look cute as hell. I owned a Mesa Rectifier Retroverb and couldn't get that thing to have the same punch and aggressiveness as my big EVH in a mix.. no matter what I did, I could make the instrumental sound bigger but never the amp, it always sounded tight and small, no headroom, no pushing the air, no chug...I feel like if you don't have access to the real thing the little amps are amazing, but once you play the real amp it's hard to make the little ones sound as good when recording.

    I played a Badlander 100 at GC last week and loved it, but I don't need a 100 watt head. So now I'm trying to decide between the 25 and 100. From your video I think the 100 sounds better, so..... I guess I'm gonna go drop almost $3K?

    I was just wondering if the Bold and the variac which really make that much of a difference

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому +1

      The variac mode is meant to add a slightly more spongy sound like an amp with more sag.
      And the bold gives you the sound of more clean head room.
      In all honesty there wasn't too much of a difference. At least not enough to really make that much of a difference in a full mix. With Drums, Bass, and Vocals some of those fine tuning qualities can get lost.

    Is the Badland er25 loud enough to play with a full band also if you use the IR can you still plug in the cabinet for a monitor on stage

    • @HighImpaktAudio
      @HighImpaktAudio  Рік тому

      Hello! Thank you so much for watching.
      You shouldn't have any issues keeping up with a full band with a 25 watt. Though keep in mind that the sound will break up sooner with a 25 watt amp. So if distortion is what you're going for this will be awesome for ya!
      I will have to check if you can use the DI along with a speaker cab. And I will get back to you on that. I don't see why it wouldn't work, but just wanna double check.
      If your using the DI out to go to front of house the sound engineer should be able to add even more volume for a performance!

      Sorry you're not happy with the Badlander 25. I was able to get the best tone out of boosting the front, and using a noise gate. It cuts out the muddy lows, and focuses better on the high frequencies to cut through better. That's what I did to get the tone in this video. Used the Boss Super Overdrive.
