idk if other fandoms are like this, but I love how swifties put out content like, "best second single," and, "best second verses," etc. Who else does that?! It's incredible and I love it
People forget why she pushed reputation the way she did. If she had put delicate as 2nd single, people would have said that she is doing all good and just wanted to play victim with LWYMMD and we all know she wanted to build the narrative of dark and edgy taylor till the album had come out because she didn’t want media to control and twist the narrative again.
@@vrishtihasija2142 while that's true, I still feel like delicate could have shown more about the album so it appeals to more audiences. I know she wanted to push that narrative about her (which is why LWYMMD is a great single) ...ready for it? just kinda felt bland. if she was going for an edgier tone, honestly I did something bad could have been a better choice
Am I wrong for thinking that So It Goes would have made a good second single on Reputation? It has the dark vibes she wanted for the album while also being a little slower, eerie sounding rather than in your face, Disney Villain cackling in her lair vibes that LWYMMD and End Game gave. It's more of like, a femme fatale vibe, darker and sensual and ...Ready For It? is also sort of that, but So It Goes is just more effective in that way. So It Goes shows that she's an adult with sexual desires rather than Ready For It which more or less tells us 'Look at me, I'm an adult and I like sex", you know? My teachers always told me to show rather than tell.
I think she doesn’t consider so it goes appropriate for kids so maybe that’s why she didn’t want to push it to radio.. because songs like dress and ready for it - have a line or two referencing sex and ready for it is not even direct for a kid’s mind but so it goes is fully sensual
For me, the best second single (and the best TS song period) is Blank Space. Her pen has rarely been sharper and she found a very deserving and enduring target in the tabloid media (which differs from her breakup songs, in that some of her exes end up targets for disproportionate hate). It was the perfect follow up to Shake it Off, putting that message into context. The music video was also phenomenal.
listened to this on my run and the time flew by lol. getaway car still haunts me as the song that could've given the 1989 singles a run for their money! the power that song harnesses is insane
Begin Again and Back To December being the top choices is correct. For me the two are flipped, personally but that's just because I would become a martyr for Speak Now and Back To December is such a serve on an already nearly flawless album. Also I love the melody and the back instrumental tracks. Not to mention the lyrics, the imagery of the roses left to die is *chefs kiss*. It reminds me of the imagery in Clean with the butterflies turning to dust. Begin again is amazing and it's a slow song but there's this nervous excitement to it that sounds like she doesn't think she deserves to feel at first. It's simple but simple isn't bad, its the story of a girl who went through a devastating break up and is just now taking the chance to begin again and it works brilliantly because of it. I think the subsequent ranking would be: Blank Space Exile White Horse Teardrops on My Guitar Ready For It No Body No Crime You Need To Calm Down (I think the Man does a slightly better job at being a 'woke' single, but not much)
I feel like the problem with 'Reputation' was that she could not release any "soft" singles before the album came out because the whole point was that we were supposed to think it was all going be dark and vindictive, when it's actually a love story, for the most part.
begin again is the best album closer, hands down. it's pure hope and closure in a song, and you're right, every word feels so purposeful, i just have so much love for it ugh

I feel like instead of Delicate, Dancing with Our Hands Tied or Getaway Car should've been the second single. Both of them tie into the second half of the story she was telling through reputation while also really highlighting her songwriting skills and focusing on real, human emotions over this caricature. Delicate imo works well as a final single because it's about letting go of this era (like NYD) but would've been too jarring if it was right after.

As always I, for the most part, agree with your picks. I agree, the bait and switch in single choices is always a good idea because it gets stans and casual listeners interested in what the rest of the album will sound like and be about. For Lover I think the lead single should have been lover (song), and if she wasn't so obsessed with easter eggs at the time and not telling us the album title, she might have done it. Personally I liked the whole vibe of the Lover era so more bubblegum pop songs like ME! don't really bother me, but you're right it never should have been the lead single. YNTCD could have been a charity single that was released before the album came out because it did what it needed to do with the Equality Act and everything. But here is where we may disagree, Cruel Summer could not have been a lead or second single. I firmly believe that half of the fanbase dones not actually understand that song and they are just pretending, it would have been great for it to be a summer single and end up in all the target commercials, but she squandered that moment. But you can not tell me that if you heard "hang your head low in the glow of the vending machine I'm not dying" randomly on the radio you wouldn't be hella confused. side note your eyes are so pretty, I'm jealous

I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Literally everything!! YNTCD was so cringe. Her pandering on that song was paainful and sonically it didn’t even work. Cruel Summer NEEDED to be a single. You’ve got great taste 😘.
jtlyk we need, we want, the next episode of the podcast zack. it's no longer about the fun of it all, it's about a commitment, the conservation of history of public interest
my reputation singles: "Look What You Made Me Do" "I Did Something Bad" so, "Don't Blame Me" are you "...Ready For It?" it's "Delicate" we were "Dancing With Our Hands Tied" end up in a "Getaway Car" "So It Goes..." "Call It What You Want"
I agree with ready for it, but I also disagree because I get the vibe that instead of putting out a single and then a second one to have that pull or reassurance on listeners, I actually think she wanted to alienate people and not have anyone listen to more of her album unless they were more committed fans. Considering I'm talking about Taylor Swift that is insane, but I just feel like with all the haters at that time and lack of support from the media shall we say, I think there were a lot of people ready to hate what she put out even if it was good so it wouldn't take much to alienate a lot of people, and she did that by having two singles very similar, then most of the rest of the album really is softer and more love songs if anything and it's like she protected those for her true fans to listen to 😂
For folklore - August or Betty could have been a better second single For Evermore - I agree Cowboy Like Me or Goldrush would have been so much better.
My ranking (based on not how much I like the song but how effective it was as a 2nd single): 1) Blank Space 2) TOMG 3) BTD 4) Exile (salty bc billboard ranked this as her best collab and but the last time LAST??? Even though TLT is the better song but oh well) 5) Begin Again 6) RFI 7) White Horse 8) YNTCD 9) NBNC
Talking about “Me” - “it was like she was spitting on her own career” hahahaha I spat out my coffee! I totally agree though - such a shame about the Lover singles.
Totally agree about Delicate - I've been a long time fan but like your fan also dropped off when she did ready for it instead. It took me years to listen to Rep (i love it now). ME! is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. I don't mind YNTCD, but agree that Cruel Summer would have been huge! She really missed the mark there.
DELICATE WOULD'VE BEEN A WONDERFUL SECOND SINGLE We had already had the LWYMMD moment which of course was iconic and necessary, but Reputation is as even more of a love album as it is a "you did me dirty" one, and delicate as a song embodies the whole idea of the album PERFECTLY, and it would help with people who see Rep as a "dark edgy album" see the truth about the album, which is that it's romantic and lovey-dovey as well
My ranking 1. Begin again 2. No body no crime 3.Back to December 4.Teardrops on my guitar 5.exile 6.Ready for it 7.Blank space 8.White horse 9,You need to calm down
Also imo it's kinda stupid tp tap out after listening to singles only (I'm talking about every artist not only Taylor) cuz many times the singles aren't the best ones in the album and imo putting the weakest songs as singles can sometimes be an advamtage
I think no body, no crime would have made much more sense if it had a creepy Taylor/HAIM video going with it. But without it it’s kind of a weird choice. Even though I love the song, it’s not the best one to be a second single.
@Swiftologist idk why my UA-cam told me that this was a brand new video? I see now that it was released 5 months ago, but I literally clicked on this from a push notification. No idea what UA-cam is up to.
in my opinion no body no crime feels way too much like taylor telling a story over some music, which can work but the way she does it in the song doesn’t really make you want to go back to it. you listened to the story and it was tolerable but there’s not really anything to come back for, at least for me. the title no body no crime wasn’t used as a metaphor for something - it was literally a crime story. but the fact that haim were just utilized for backround vocals is the real crime here
idk if other fandoms are like this, but I love how swifties put out content like, "best second single," and, "best second verses," etc. Who else does that?! It's incredible and I love it

And thats it, wait, you say there is a song where she says snakes and stones never broke her bones? I don't know her
I agree with EVERYTHING you said. Literally everything!! YNTCD was so cringe. Her pandering on that song was paainful and sonically it didn’t even work. Cruel Summer NEEDED to be a single. You’ve got great taste 😘.
IM WITH YOU ON THAT FOREVER AND ALWAYS HORSE FR
i think you really hit the head on the nail with you need to calm down. don’t get me wrong i love fun songs! but it’s not a good fun song
so true
I’m just going to pretend you didn’t put Exile into cute girl
I know!! i literally cannot i physically cringe when i hear that song falskdjflsdjf its so bad
jtlyk we need, we want, the next episode of the podcast zack. it's no longer about the fun of it all, it's about a commitment, the conservation of history of public interest
and you'll keep waiting!
@@theswiftologist happily and patiently
my reputation singles:
"Look What You Made Me Do"
"I Did Something Bad"
so, "Don't Blame Me"
are you "...Ready For It?"
it's "Delicate"
we were "Dancing With Our Hands Tied"
end up in a "Getaway Car"
"So It Goes..."
"Call It What You Want"
tbh paper rings and cruel summer should've been the first 2 singles for lover...
Agreed about no body, no crime. I loved it the first few times, but there’s very little relistening value.
he said what he said!!!
I agree with you about Forever and Always 100%.
I love your contents!
I agree with ready for it, but I also disagree because I get the vibe that instead of putting out a single and then a second one to have that pull or reassurance on listeners, I actually think she wanted to alienate people and not have anyone listen to more of her album unless they were more committed fans. Considering I'm talking about Taylor Swift that is insane, but I just feel like with all the haters at that time and lack of support from the media shall we say, I think there were a lot of people ready to hate what she put out even if it was good so it wouldn't take much to alienate a lot of people, and she did that by having two singles very similar, then most of the rest of the album really is softer and more love songs if anything and it's like she protected those for her true fans to listen to 😂
For folklore - August or Betty could have been a better second single
For Evermore - I agree Cowboy Like Me or Goldrush would have been so much better.
Hi
No body no crime is one of my top 5 evermore songs
Bye
My ranking (based on not how much I like the song but how effective it was as a 2nd single):
1) Blank Space
2) TOMG
3) BTD
4) Exile (salty bc billboard ranked this as her best collab and but the last time LAST??? Even though TLT is the better song but oh well)
5) Begin Again
6) RFI
7) White Horse
8) YNTCD
9) NBNC
TLT wishes to be half as good as exile
@@hassanmansour9857 TLT is the blueprint bestie. Exile is but a remake
@@haleyscott7528 you wish :]
I feel like Don't Blame Me should have been the second single. It shows the other side of Reputation, i.e., the I am in love side and it's bop😼
No Body no crime is my 6 year olds favourite Taylor Swift song, which is sort of terrifying 😅😂
Cruel Summer was robbed.... and so were we all!
speak on it mirrorball
Talking about “Me” - “it was like she was spitting on her own career” hahahaha I spat out my coffee! I totally agree though - such a shame about the Lover singles.
Totally agree about Delicate - I've been a long time fan but like your fan also dropped off when she did ready for it instead. It took me years to listen to Rep (i love it now).
ME! is one of the worst songs I've ever heard. I don't mind YNTCD, but agree that Cruel Summer would have been huge! She really missed the mark there.
4:28 people who will join on the journey
no way kkkkkkkkkkkkkk no body no crime is literally the only song i like in evermore
DELICATE WOULD'VE BEEN A WONDERFUL SECOND SINGLE
We had already had the LWYMMD moment which of course was iconic and necessary, but Reputation is as even more of a love album as it is a "you did me dirty" one, and delicate as a song embodies the whole idea of the album PERFECTLY, and it would help with people who see Rep as a "dark edgy album" see the truth about the album, which is that it's romantic and lovey-dovey as well
yesss agreeeeeedddd
Begin again 🔛🔝
My ranking
1. Begin again
2. No body no crime
3.Back to December
4.Teardrops on my guitar
5.exile
6.Ready for it
7.Blank space
8.White horse
9,You need to calm down
NO BODY NO CRIME AT 2??????????????
I feel like yntcd is catchy and personally I like it but cruel summer would have been a better option.
you should rank the quitars she plays on tour
YES I did this on twitter once I'm gonna do it again
Also imo it's kinda stupid tp tap out after listening to singles only (I'm talking about every artist not only Taylor) cuz many times the singles aren't the best ones in the album and imo putting the weakest songs as singles can sometimes be an advamtage
what do you mean begin again was a second single? in mind it was ikywt and begin again was a 4th single or something like that
well ur wrong begin again was the second single. try wikipedia
@@theswiftologist i feel lied to, is like my whole life was a lie, what in the madela effect is going on
@s19a😂😂😂😂😂a294d
I think no body, no crime would have made much more sense if it had a creepy Taylor/HAIM video going with it. But without it it’s kind of a weird choice. Even though I love the song, it’s not the best one to be a second single.
How you not gonna include Bejeweled??? It's been long enough.
This came out before midnights you dingbat
@Swiftologist idk why my UA-cam told me that this was a brand new video? I see now that it was released 5 months ago, but I literally clicked on this from a push notification. No idea what UA-cam is up to.
😂😂😂@@sailorseraphim
I really love yntcd because it's her lgbtq anthem but i respect your opinion lol
it's so poorly executed and barely qualifies as an lgtbq anthem
@@hassanmansour9857 i think it's fun and the gay lyrics got me hype ngl
ME! SLANDER?? EXCUSE ME-HE-HE?
now rank all the willow remixes
i still can't believe we got "you need to calm down" instead of cruel summer. one of the dumbest things she's ever done, which is saying something.
The fact that you slandered Lover's singles and posted the video on its anniversary is funny.
I am nothing if not consistent
Trying
I love no body no crime
Just sayin😅
Ok jk works (for now)
in my opinion no body no crime feels way too much like taylor telling a story over some music, which can work but the way she does it in the song doesn’t really make you want to go back to it. you listened to the story and it was tolerable but there’s not really anything to come back for, at least for me. the title no body no crime wasn’t used as a metaphor for something - it was literally a crime story. but the fact that haim were just utilized for backround vocals is the real crime here
yeah they didnt even really get a chance to shine! but thats par for the course if you're a female artist collaborating w her lol....
