Cannot even describe to you just how incredible of an experience that was !!!! She opened with Norman Effing Rockwell and ended with Did You Know That There's a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd ! Which you'll get to, sooner than later, I'm hoping !! Take her projects in at whatever pace you find necessary. I know each body of work can be a lot to digest, and you'll need the time in between to recover from them 😆 ultraviolence is probably the heaviest. She's not glorifying abuse, she's just singing about things from the perspective of somebody who's in that sort of position, and expressing herself through her music. She's not saying she actually enjoyed the abuse. Such as in the lyrics for the title track, Ultraviolence, "he hit me and it felt like a kiss" could mean so many things. She could be referencing her addiction: what it felt like when she was experiencing her alcoholism, or other drugs, or being "hit" by someone's presence, not physical abuse. There are always so many layers to Lana's lyrics, as you'll discover. She's phenomenal at painting pictures 🖼 📸 😊

With This is how to disappear I think she talks about how the men in her life escape with John cracking a beer and Joe getting high, painting the picture that they take these substances to escape their tough lives. Her career has been so full of love and loss and hurt and fame and she's so rarely given credit for how much she's influenced culture. There's a reason she received artist of the decade with no Grammys to her name. She's incredible and it helps so much to listen in order and understanding contextually what's happening in the world too.

This perspective helps. To be completely honest I was very overwhelmed by that part of the album and so I didn’t take in as much as I would’ve like. But unfortunately with a first listen that happens and I discover more every time I listen to it. I’ve put this album aside for now to start at the beginning so I can revisit this one again with hopefully a completely new perspective and appreciation. ❤️

This is something I’ve been thinking about for a while. She came out also in the 2010’s when I was hyperfixating on other artists and music and just completely missed her stuff. I think it’s in the plan but most likely after Lana. This one’s a big undertaking. Lol
Glad you enjoyed it. The way I actually went on my journey for diagnosis was actually seeing other autistic people online and relating to them so it’s definitely possible. But I do want to point out that it’s also possible that you’re relating because these traits are also just human traits and feelings. No, I think people of all neurotypes can have things they hyper fixate on. Although it is very common for people with ADHD or Autism to be very “intense” with their hyper fixations or special interests. If you relate to things I’m talking about it doesn’t necessarily mean anything but checking out the criteria in the DSM-5 for either Autism or ADHD could be a starter point if that’s something you think could help you. Also, weird people are the best! 😜❤️

With This is how to disappear I think she talks about how the men in her life escape with John cracking a beer and Joe getting high, painting the picture that they take these substances to escape their tough lives. And then at the end she promises her child she will never disappear in this kind of way that men in her past used to.

As others have said, please react in order to her albums. She reveals information about her life in such a beautiful way and it's so much easier to connect the dots and follow the sadness in order. Her career has been so full of love and loss and hurt and fame and she's so rarely given credit for how much she's influenced culture. There's a reason she received artist of the decade with no Grammys to her name. She's incredible and it helps so much to listen in order and understanding contextually what's happening in the world too.
Also bartender is about addiction to alcohol. So it's a bit of a personal song for her.

This perspective helps. To be completely honest I was very overwhelmed by that part of the album and so I didn’t take in as much as I would’ve like. But unfortunately with a first listen that happens and I discover more every time I listen to it. I’ve put this album aside for now to start at the beginning so I can revisit this one again with hopefully a completely new perspective and appreciation. ❤️

by the way, id say that the fact that she "paints a world" is her strongest point about her lyricism. she doesnt have a "shakespearian" way of writing like taylor swift does, she's more straightforward but she has a way of making you picture things that nobody has!

Glad you enjoyed it. The way I actually went on my journey for diagnosis was actually seeing other autistic people online and relating to them so it’s definitely possible. But I do want to point out that it’s also possible that you’re relating because these traits are also just human traits and feelings. If you’re curious though there are some resources online that can help to see if you fit the criteria. Embrace Autism has some great resources. ❤️❤️❤️

Are people with autism the only people who hyper fixate on certain thing like listening to just a certain artist? Because I can relate but not sure if I have autism but people find me weird sometimes.
No, I think people of all neurotypes can have things they hyper fixate on. Although it is very common for people with ADHD or Autism to be very “intense” with their hyper fixations or special interests. If you relate to things I’m talking about it doesn’t necessarily mean anything but checking out the criteria in the DSM-5 for either Autism or ADHD could be a starter point if that’s something you think could help you. Also, weird people are the best! 😜❤️
