A beautiful post from Janelle Knight Thank you so much Peter for this video, it's not as scary to work with as I thought it would be, in fact it's actually quite easy. I'd like to thank Alison from Merlin Mosaica for bringing this product to us all and personally for answering my many questions. I love this grout and so will many more after seeing your tutorial I'm sure. Thank you for featuring my Anisa inspired lazy susan mosaic that is a gift for my son's 30th birthday (he hasn't seen it yet, but the secret may be out now :). This was my fifth piece ever completed and my first glass piece and I couldn't be happier. If I can continue to learn and only become half as good as Anisa and yourself Peter, then I will be a happy girl. I love your videos and have learnt an incredible amount from you and I can't believe you featured my work, wow I feel delighted and nervous at the same time. Thank you.
Thankyou so much Janelle, very much appreciate that. I also found this product easy to use, Im so glad that you enjoyed using it. I always say, if you love the tess you use and you love what you do, everything will turn out beautiful. Enjoying the journey is the important part and along with, our skills improve. Thankyou very much for letting me use your mosaic piece in the video, a perfect 30th birthday present for your son. :)
You’re giving my secret away if you show everyone this product! 🤫. Just kidding!! such a good product and love your work Peter. Two questions: the manufacturer recommends mixing all of the kit in one batch (which obviously isn’t very helpful for smaller jobs) have you had any issue going back and mixing a second or third batch? Later in the video you had used some Soudal Fix all clear. I know you’ve made a comparison between Weldbond glue and Mac glue, but I was hoping you could give a comparison between Soudal Fix all clear and Mac glue please? Thanks for your time @Treasury Road Best, Brock
@@brockmillard7615 LOL@secret. Thankyou very much, appreciate that. Actually its a bit of a secret product. I have been using Laticrete Spectralock Pro Epoxy grout for years and I did the same thing using small quantities although they were different mixing ratios, and its a different product but its still epoxy grout and it worked very well. I am about to do another experimental piece tomorrow, using some of the left over Litokol translucent grout, I don't expect any issues but will definitely upload the results. Of course it will also depend on how its stored and how long you store it for. The Soudal Fix All and Mac glue are totally different products each have their own pros and cons and it really comes down to where you're going to be using them and which one is the best to use for the project. For a glass on glass for me its Mac Glue all the way, for adhering mirror its Soudal that wins as its neutral curing so the reflective backing isn't effected. I may actually do a versus video on these two products, maybe a good idea Brock. :)
I am preoccupied with the more 'heavy duty' mosaic materials for my small porch & garden this Autumn and hunkering down for the coming winter but looking forward to doing more delicate projects indoors during the winter. Thank you for this! By the way, I am very happy for you all In Australia regarding the rescue of the child, Cleo. Hugs.
Thankyou so much . Epoxy grouts are suitable for many types of projects and are a very durable as well. it is great news about Cleo , l was so happy she was found safe, so hard for the parents. Hugs as well. 😊
If you want to restore the clarity to glass after grinding it, sand it with fine-grit sandpaper. Even P400 will remove most of the frosted effect from grinding.
This looks like a terrific technique for glass mosaics! I will folllow all the instructions exactly, including wear a mask, chem gloves and buy a small kitchen scale. Thank you so much!
Thankyou so much Catherine. People are using it for glass projects with fantastic results. Where the product can let you down a bit is if you have large areas of dark colours, it doesn’t give you a great depth of colour for instance black. It will turn out a grey colour, however l don’t see that as a major issue. This product has many awesome benefits. Thanks for watching. 😊
Just found this video and I can't wait to try the grout. I have always hated the white or even colored grout when crafting because I think it diminishes the beauty of the rocks, glass, etc.
Its a great product and it excels where lots of coloured tess is used, this is where traditional grouts I feel struggle. Its best used with glass preferably semi transparent glass and up to 3mm grout lines. It also doesn't do depth of colour so when it comes to areas of dark colours such as black or dark blue the translucent grout takes on a lighter colour such as a grey or lighter blue. A very unique product that I consider to be awesome. Thanks for watching and for your comment. :)
Lol l hear this quite a bit, people buy it and then are afraid to use it. The funny thing is once they use it they think oh that was easier than l thought. Lol Water is key for removing it, if you feel a drag on the sponge when rubbing it off then you need more water. Let me know how you go. Thanks for watching and for your comment. 😊
Great video as usual! And timely for me for a mosaic I am currently working on. Thanks Peter, for sharing your skills and information about products. Much appreciated!
Thank you.. I've been using it for years and was happy to hear a few more things that will make it better ..really thorough and clear video..I love this grout as it keeps the piece closer to my original vision ..I found that grouting can change a piece too much sometimes..:)
Thankyou so much Martine, really apprecaite that. So glad you have been using it for years and enjoying it. You are right when grouting using traditional grout it can change a piece dramatically and not always for the best. :)
I am knocked out by this product; had no idea that one could buy translucent grout. Thanks for this! Oh, and I save old credit and other plastic cards to smoosh the grout into the lines. That's tech speak. haha :) Thank you!
Its a great product and awesome for certain jobs. LOL@tech speak, the credit cards are great to use for levelling or smooshing. lol. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
My pleasure Michelle, its a great product for the right job. Check out www.merlinmosaica.com.au Alison has great information on it that you should read before using it. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
Thanks so much for this video. I have a piece that I think would probably work best with translucent grout and I wasn't sure if I wanted to mess with it. Now I know it is indeed what I need and I' excited to get some!
Thank you for this very useful information and your availability to be a resource to us. I have a stained glass piece I want to use translucent grout on and used Weldbond to adhere the glass to a wood substrate. I also have some iridized glass scattered around the piece. Any possible compatibility issues with this grout and Weldbond or iridized glass? I so appreciate your advice.
Thankyou so much, I cant answer your question because I don't use Weldbond as my main adhesive. Weldbond will return back to its original state when it comes in contact with moisture. In most cases it will eventually turn clear but it can take many many months for that to happen. Using the Litokol translucent grout this may not happen but I cannot tell you for sure so I am guessing. How the iridized glass works with the translucent grout a good question, again I haven't used it with iridized glass. I would suggest doing a small test with all three to see how it goes before doing a large piece. You can post the same questions in a couple of the Facebook mosaics groups such as Mosaic Mentoring and only ask for comments from people that have actually used all three, this should filter out any guesswork. :)
Do I have prep wood before doing the mosaics??? If I do--how do I do it and what types of wood needs to be prepped??? Also--- what about wood that is stained and has a varnish---can I use it for mosaics or do I have to prep it---how do I do this on stained and varnished wood??/ Thank u so much!!! You r terrific!!! K
Thanks heaps Kaye. If you go to my video playlist "starting in mosaics" its a great place to start and explains a lot. For me I tend to either take the varnish off or not use the wood because its sitting on top of the wood and if it lets go so will your mosaic. :) ua-cam.com/play/PL3hbSHuG7eHRY0ZmStCKByoeHWUXIt28k.html
Thank you for this very thorough video about a product that I had never heard about. It looks a little intimidating because of the measurements, but I am sure that is all explained in the little booklet that comes with the tub. I wonder if it is available in the US, I live in Hawai'i.
Thankyou very much Gerdine. It’s a very easy product to use and yes you are right the scales can be intimidating however it’s like cooking but only mixing two ingredients. The benefits are awesome. It is available in the USA and to find your nearest retailer give tile doctor a call or send an email. 😊
Peter thank you for this great video!!! Very informative! I am going to try the translucent grout for the first time on a Landscape mosaic piece that i've been hesitant to use traditional grout on. I currently have it on mesh and usually adhere it to the cement backer board with thinset. My thought is to use another adhesive for this piece so that the translucent grout can go down to the bottom of the glass/board for optimum visual... What would you suggest? Also wondering if the mesh would be seen through the grout? I don't think so... but wondering if you have any experience with that. Also the piece does not have a border! So was wondering how to get a smooth edges with the T. Grout. Thank you!
Thankyou very much, appreciate that Elaine. I cant comment specifically about your job as there are always variables I cannot see, like any job. If you are applying the thinset to the cement sheet, you can use a notched trowel as this will help ensure you do not apply to much thinset, the notches come in different depths. Caroline Jariwala from Mango Mosaics has a video using a notched trowel. ua-cam.com/video/93GE4SGLm3Q/v-deo.html I dont think you would see through the mesh with the translucent grout as its is frosted, that would have been a good one to try in my tests. I still might do that. As far as the grout on the edges Im not sure what you mean but just make sure you don't wipe the grout out of the grout lines that are exposed on the edges. :)
Thank you for this video. Very informative and great instructions. I will definitely try it if I can find it. (In Canada) I have a gog piece that has a lot of clear and translucent glass. Should I still do a weldbond wash? If it bleeds will it show? It's my 1st gog project and I'm worried about ruining it ( It's a 2'x2' table). Love your videos! Thank you!!
Thankyou so much Jenny. It is best to adhere the glass correctly and then you don't need to do a Weldbond wash at all. I would suggest you watch my video on GOG tips ua-cam.com/video/dTcZ-C5fA8M/v-deo.html I cant advise you specifically on your job because there are variables I cannot see. It is common for people to use a Weldbond wash on a GOG but it doesn't solve all the issues because a lot comes down to what you use and how you have created a GOG. I am currently creating a video on GOG with Litokol Translucent grout to see what it will look like if the glass has not been adhered down correctly. Should be next weeks video.
Great video. I do what I call abstract collage mosaic. Basically I create a colorful collage and then do a mosaic of clear glass pieces over it. I am concerned that when I use translucent grout since the colr is on the bottom and not throughout the glass it will not be reflected.
Thankyou so much Daryl. Yes I would think the grout will be a frosted look because it wont be able to reflect the surrounding colours of the tess. If you wanted to use it I would perform a test first. Thanks so much for watching. :)
Thanks for another great video. I was wondering if you would consider using Litokol translucent on a glass vase with flowers made from smalti slices and bits of china between flowers. I’m wondering if cleaning the grout, with the uneven and sharp edges would be too difficult. I’m fairly experienced and enjoy a challenge. Would appreciate your input before I spend the money on that grout. Only about half the vase is covered with tesserae. The rest of the vase is left blank, so would like to keep a semi transparent look for the mosaic section. (I wish I could send you a photo.
Thankyou so much Anne. The Litokol Translucent grout is designed for glass, I cannot see why it wouldn't work with Smalti depending on the closeness and the height of it, however testing would be needed because the Smalti is rarely grouted. Smalti has pits and is quite undulating which would definitely be a challenge to grout, I don't think you could get the grout out of the pits but that in itself may be an interesting look. To get the optimum look from the grout 3mm or less grout lines are required and also using glass, when you are using crockery, the crockery doesn't reflect the light so the grout has a frosted look rather than reflecting the colour of the glass as seen in this video. Using the glass vase isn't an issue and it looks great because it has been done using this grout, however the lady used stained glass. It would be an interesting project and you could certainly buy a small container of Litokol Translucent, it has a 2 year shelf life, providing you would use it in other projects if it didn't work for this one. Thanks for your your comment and for watching. :)
Wonderful video! Was wondering about how this translucent grout is affected by the color of the thinset being used as the adhesive? If using white thinset will the grout appear white?…Or will it still take on the colors of the glass tesserae?…Thanks!
Thanks so much Rhonda, appreciate that. If you're not using the thinset as the grout and you are filling the grout lines with the LItokol translucent grout then that grout will take on the colour of the glass tess you've used. :)
A great video, Peter. Thank you. The tip on how to make the bead flat was brilliant. The grout is beautiful and you made it look easy. I'll have to get a scale! Is this product sold in the U.S? do you know?
Thankyou very much Maggie, Michelle Berkon came up with a great idea to take it a step forward and that is to sand the grinded area down with fine grit sandpaper to take the frosted look off the bead. The product is sold in the USA. :)
I just subbed your channel.. great information! I was wondering if the translucent grout is the best option for the orsoni smalti? I love the look of the gold coated blue glass tiles but wasn’t sure what to make with them or how to use them. Thank you!
Thankyou so much LA and thankyou for the sub, appreciate that. The Litokol translucent grout works best with semi transparent glass however I haven't used it with the gold Smalti so I cant really say how well it would work. I guess you would be breaking new ground if you went down that path, if you do please let me know how it goes. :)
Very helpful video. Two questions: What is the ratio of grout to resin? How much time do you need to wait after you apply the grout to wash it off? Thanks!
Thanks Nikki, if you are referring to the ratio of grout to the catalyst that’s in the video and in the description box of this video as well. Once you’ve finished applying the grout you can start the cleaning off process. Thanks for watching and for commenting. 😊
I cannot advise specifically regarding your job because there are always variables I cannot see. I did a test sample piece where I used Weldbond and grouted the piece with the Litokol Translucent grout and it worked for me, this was on a glass on glass piece not wood. In your case I would do a test first. :)
Quick question that may have been answered. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to being in the sun while working outside. Should the pieces not be left to set in sunlight?
Thanks so much for this video Peter. I have used Litokol often since watching it several years ago. I have a question for you and hope you can assist me. I mosaiced a ceramic fish with both stained glass and ceramic pieces. They were of different heights so I put the Litokol on rather thick. When it dried it felt very gritty in some areas so I tried sanding it with a soft sandpaper. What a big mistake! Now it's left a white sandy look all over. It is not quite as gritty but looks worse. I've tried putting a rubbing compound on it and even a soft paste wax that is used on cars. Can you think of anything else? Or would another layer of the Litokol help? I'm so upset...I spent over 100 hours on this piece :(
My pleasure Michelle. You dont mention what was gritty, the surface of the tess or the grout lines. The grittiness are the glass beads that reflect in the grout lines or the grit possibly came from the ceramic pieces. If the grittiness was on the surface of the tess and assuming you mixed the right quantities and mixed it well, I would say not enough water was used to clean the tess. Putting it on thick shouldn't have been an issue however removing the excess and getting that clean is the issue here I think. Sandpaper I hate to say it was not a great idea because all that will do it scratch everything and scratch the epoxy, once thats been done trying to fix it could be an issue. Normally when people use the clear epoxy resin over photos etc, you can scratch it up with sandpaper and then apply another layer of the resin and the scratches disappear, so that would have been a good move, however you are using epoxy grout. Did you try vacuuming off the dust after sanding? Its very hard to work out what to do next because I am not there have a good look. Litokol do make a cleaner for epoxy, that would have been my first step before doing anything else and most likely what I would try moving forward. Because you have applied a rubbing compound and a wax these will most likely effect a second coat of epoxy grout and could react with it, the cleaner may remove these but unfortunately everything now will be a matter of trial and error especially if the cleaner doesn't work.
@@TreasuryRoad thanks Peter.....guess I just have to cough this up for "lesson learned". The sanding just scratched the grout and left white where it had been gritty. But the grittiness was at least clear and was still probably sellable. So stupid on my part. It was the most ambitious piece I ever tried and just wanted to make it a bit softer. You are probably right, I didn't use enough water to clean the tess. The piece is so large, I grouted sections of it at different times and most of it turned out ok. I think I just got impatient to finish it. Lesson learned! Thanks again Peter. I've used the Litokol on other smaller pieces and they turned out great, so I haven't give up!
Its terrible when you have worked on a piece and put so much effort, time and materials into it and at the last moment an issue like this happens. Impatience is never a good thing when it comes to finishing, I know, but sometimes you just get anxious and want to see it all lovely and finished. I know its hard and I'm so glad you haven't given up and are moving forward. :)
I’m thinking about adding opalescent glass frit to this for a glowing effect. Do you know if adding the frit would change the epoxy’s chemical reaction?
I cant answer your question because I have never done that. The Litokol Translucent wasn't designed to be used that way. I suggest doing a small test to see how you go. :)
HI Mozhdeh, Vitreous tiles are glass, if you watch this video I use some vitreous tiles with the translucent grout, works well. Thankyou for watching. :) ua-cam.com/video/irAGioFofXE/v-deo.html
Thankyou very much. In this video I demonstrate what the translucent grout looks like on a substrate thats not a glass substrate and also what it looks like on a GOG. In this video it gives you a better look when the piece is finished and how the glass looks. :) ua-cam.com/video/irAGioFofXE/v-deo.html
in my opinion, the translucent grout at least online or in videos looks gray to me. Is it really worth using? I do like the effect on your butterfly wings mosaic though.I must admit I prefer single grout colours to multiple as well.
The Litokol translucent grout is a great product but only if you meet it’s requirements as mentioned in this video. It’s not there to replace normal sanded grout, it’s a specialty grout that’s very unique and offers benefits over traditional grouts. Where it doesn’t work as well is in dark colours suck as black and dark blue. The grout doesn’t do “depth” of colour so when used with black Tess the grout will look grey which l dont see as an issue. However if you have a piece and you use lots of coloured Tess this is where the product shines because traditional one colour grout can fracture areas of the piece especially if there are large areas of colour that conflict with the one colour grout. The colour is like a frosted glass probably has a grey tinge in its raw state. Thanks for watching and commenting. 😊
Thankyou very much, yes its pricier than normal sanded grout, and its not for every project but great when you need this type of product. Thanks for watching. :)
I imagine this product is a great solution for glass on glass grout bleed. Is it translucent enough that grout bleed is not apparent with glass on glass projects?
From my test it works well for GOG and you can’t see the grout bleed, however l have only done a test. I have a video on that in my playlist under translucent grout it’s in one of the videos. If you go there and watch it you can see for yourself and make up your own mind. I would prefer to adhere the Tess down properly rather than rely on the grout. Thanks for commenting. 😊
Thanks for a very informative video. I am just not sure on how to work out the ration between the 2 parts. Your calculations are 0.28 & 1.12 but not sure how you got 187g of the base from and 12g of epoxy. My calculations are 0.24 & 1.40. Sorry if this is a silly question and I have missed the obvious. Thanks, Gai
Thanks so much Gai, definitely not a silly question. If you go into the video description it tells you everything. Underneath the video description click on show more. Its all in there, its also in the technical data sheet as well. :)
Would this work as grout for black small square webbed tiles? Is this a good grout to walk on in a kitchen? I'm afraid to invest if it isn't strong enough to last.
I cant comment specifically about your project because there are usually variables I cannot see. I can say generally epoxy grouts are more durable than sanded grout and a smoother finish which makes easier cleaning. I would suggest contacting Litokol in your country and have a talk to them or shoot them an email. In the description box of this video are the contact details.
Hi Peter, thanks so much for this video! I ordered some crystal evo and am excited to try it. When it came today the plastic “plate” separating the two mixtures was out of place and the stuff on the bottom was all over everything above the plate. I cleaned it up and can still read the instructions. Is it still okay to use?
Thankyou very much. I have heard of this happening a few times, as long as the top lid of the container was intact and the epoxy liquid bag hadn't been compromised, it should be fine to use. If your in doubt about anything contact the retailer where you purchased it from, Litokol or the distributor directly. Thanks for watching. :)
This has happened to both the containers I have ordered. They definitely need a this side up arrow. Love your videos Peter. I have watched this one ten times or more. I am timid about grouting.
Hi Tony, I would love to try this new grout. I live in the U.S. By any chance do you know who sales it here? Thanks Tony! As usual the video was very interesting!
DUH!!! one more question since I only ask a lot!!! Is there a grout that u prefer to use and can U tell me??? Please---fixing to start and want to do the right thing??? tks k
Kaye its great asking questions, dont feel bad about it. I have added a link for the playlist "starting in mosaics" that will answer many of your questions. Generally speaking its always good to use a sanded grout, not a premixed or a unsanded grout. Epoxy grouts are great but start with a sanded grout first. Its also a good practice to read the manufactures technical data sheet and also the safety data sheet as well before buying a product, I do this before purchasing any product. They answer many questions and its good to go by these than by public opinion because they are accurate and correct. Asking for advice can be hit and miss because generally people who have the best intentions don't have the full facts of your job and so therefore the information given may be incorrect or misleading, its always good to read these sheets and then you decide if its suitable for your project. This is why most of my replies are of a general nature. That's not to say you cant get other peoples opinions to help you out but just keep in mind there's always more than one way to do a mosaic but doing your own due diligence is worth gold. Also people have their own preference of products that they like to use so you will find conflicting reports but again reading these sheets can be the difference between success and failure. My latest video will definitely help you out regarding these technical and safety data sheets. :)
I haven’t used this on a vertical surface, l wouldn’t think it wouldn’t be an issue being a grout. However it would be wise to consult the technical data sheet. 😊
Hi Peter, thank you for this (and all your videos!) Does the epoxy grout also have adhesive properties? I watched another of your videos where you explain how to mix up thinset as grout for mosaics with exposed edges, since thunder is adhesive but regular grout would just chip out… what is your thought about this product for small pieces with no border/frame/edging? Thank you!
@@mariannazotos186 The Litokol Starlike Crystal Translucent Grout is an epoxy grout however I cannot see any mention of it being used as an adhesive as well, although the Litokol Starlike EVO can be, I would have thought it could be however it would be advisable to contact Litokol directly and speak to their technical department or send them an email. :)
@@TreasuryRoad Hi - thank you for replying! I did email them, and got this for as response "Yes the Starlike product will work as an adhesive and grout, it also can be a trowel-able wall finish." They wrote back very quicky, as well!!
@@mariannazotos186 Hi Marianna: the Litokol Starlike EVO (i.e. Coloured Epoxy Grouts) can act as an adhesive and a wall finish as well as a grout. However, to be clear, the Translucent product (Litokol Starlike CRYSTAL EVO) is a grout only, and does not have any adhesive properties. Hope that helps. Both great products.
Thankyou Vivienne. If you adhere the tess down correctly and your tess is totally flat on the side you are adhering down, there's no need to do a Weldbond wash at all with any grout. I never do a Weldbond wash with my GOG pieces. :)
I would suggest reading the manufactures Safety Data Sheet so you can make an informed decision. I use a respirator mask when using all epoxy products including Art Resin. I also use gloves at all times when handling apoxie sculpt, even though they say only while your mixing the two parts together :)
Thankyou very much appreciate that. Like all products make sure it suits your job by reading and following the technical data sheets, they are very easy to read and generally available on the manufactures website. Also have a read of the safety data sheets as well so you can take the necessary safety precautions, these are also easy to read. Thankyou so much for commenting. :)
You don’t mention what tessera you are using, to get the best out of the Litokol Translucent grout it’s best to use glass with 3mm or less grout lines. The sample with the crockery in the video is uneven, it works but you don’t get the colour reflection in the grout lines. If you are using uneven glass you may not get the colour reflection in the grout lines, it would probably depend how uneven it is. 😊
This is interesting. Thanks for sharing. Could you please provide a link for the angel wings? I tried searching, but couldn't find them. Is it from Merlin Mosaica ? I tried searching their for "wings" and "angel wings, but didn't find those exact ones.
Thankyou very much. if you go to the Merlin Mosaica website and go to embellishments then to glass creatures, you will see them. They have them down as butterfly wings, l had trouble finding them as well, they can be used for butterflies or angel wings. l would have had the description on the website as both. 😊
Hi Louise, if you look in the description box of this video, it tells you the international distributors and the local Australian retailer. I would contact them for availability and price. You may find it can be shipped to you. Thankyou for watching. :)
You need to apply the tessera down correctly and then a Weldbond wash wont be needed. I have made a video on it. ua-cam.com/video/dTcZ-C5fA8M/v-deo.html
Thankyou. I haven't tried the Spectralock Translucent Grout, I have used the Spectralock Premium Pro Epoxy Grout but I believe the translucent grout is a lot more difficult to handle than the Litokol brand also Laticrete Australia wouldn't bring it in. The Laticrete Translucent grout contains higher VOC's than the Litokol brand so its not as user friendly:)
@@barbarasmith9453 If you adhere the glass tesserae down correctly then a Weldbond wash is not necessary and only creates another step. I have created a video using the Litokol Translucent grout, and grout bleed, I also used clear glass, if you go to the playlist under Litokol Translucent grout you will see it there. :) Thanks for watching. :)
Here's a UA-cam video I made regarding a Weldbond Wash. You can also clean the wash off the surface of the tess once you've finished applying it, I didn't show this in the video. Others leave it on for the grout to remove it its a personal choice. :) ua-cam.com/video/koy5TGyuRi0/v-deo.html
I can understand that but it is very easy, when you mix it, mix it thoroughly scraping the sides and bottom as well for a few minutes. Do a small A4 size or half that test piece first this will give you the confidence. :)
The cost is dependent on where you are in the world It is more expensive than normal sanded grout but its well worth the extra cost because it is a specialty product and the benefits of this Litokol Translucent grout far out weigh the time and cost of multiple colour grouting. Its not there to replace your sanded grout but it does give you a choice on specific pieces. :)
Sorry l don’t know, there is an online grout calculator, however it depends on the width of your grout lines and the depth of the Tess so there are variables that effect how much you mix. If you have a read of the manufactures technical data sheet that may tell you. They are easy to read and generally available on the manufactures or retailers website. I generally just gauge it whenever l mix any grout. Thanks for watching. 😊

Thankyou very much Michelle, I had actually forgotten that. A great tip and thankyou for watching. :)
My new favorite grout!! What a great instructor. Thank you Peter!
Thankyou very much Adriana appreciate that and thanks for watching and commenting. :)
I've watched this several times! I have the grout. Time to put my Big Girl pants on and DO IT!! I'll let you know how it comes out!!
Wonderful product. Many times I’ve been undecided on grout color. I am 100% giving this a go! Thank you!
Thankyou so much. A great product not suitable for all jobs but on the right job it’s gold. 😊
Great video as usual! And timely for me for a mosaic I am currently working on. Thanks Peter, for sharing your skills and information about products. Much appreciated!
Thankyou very much Denise, so glad the video helped you and thanks for your comment. :)
The guy comment was funny. I love your sense of humor.
LOL Thankyou so much, I do have a weird sense of humor. Thankyou for watching and also for the comment.
Can't wait to try this Peter. Thanks so much for explaining it!
My pleasure Michelle, its a great product for the right job. Check out www.merlinmosaica.com.au Alison has great information on it that you should read before using it. Thanks for watching and commenting. :)
Thanks for the video Peter it has given me the confidence to try this translucent grout.
Thanks very much Kerry, give it a go its really very easy. :)
Thanks so much for this video. I have a piece that I think would probably work best with translucent grout and I wasn't sure if I wanted to mess with it. Now I know it is indeed what I need and I' excited to get some!
Thankyou so much, glad the videos has helped you. I actually find it as easy or if not easier than using sanded grout. :)
What an interesting video! You are a great teacher as well as artist.
Thankyou so much, I really appreciate that and thankyou for watching.
Tile on right reminds me of the Bathroom Floors in the 80s!!
LOL Thats so true and funny. Thanks for the comment.
Thank you for this video. Very informative and great instructions. I will definitely try it if I can find it. (In Canada)
I have a gog piece that has a lot of clear and translucent glass.
@@TreasuryRoad Look forward to seeing your new video. I'm hoping my pieces are glued properly...have learned a lot on my 1st piece.
@@jennylockhart2668 Thankyou and we never stop learning. 😊
Wonderful to watch learning so much thank you for sharing this video .
My pleasure Jackie, thanks for watching. :)
Thank you so much! Very informative and you are a great teacher. Do you know if this is available in Canada?
Thankyou so much Sylvie, it is and if you look in the description box of this video l have added the companies. 😊

Great video again ! Did you prefer the Lutikol or the sidel fixle crystal clear grout ? And would you say the finished look was about the same ?
Thanks so much Christine. The Soudal Fix All Crystal Clear is an adhesive similar to silicon but without the solvents, it’s not a grout.. 😊
Really interesting and useful video - thank you.
Thankyou very much Cathy and thankyou for watching. :)
Love your turorials. Thank you for sharing.
Thankyou so much Athanasia, appreciate that. :)
Very helpful video. Would the translucent grout work with sea glass on a cement based substrate using cement based adhesive. Leanne
Thankyou very much Leanne. I cant answer that as the glass needs to be smooth and you would need to do some R&D to find out if that would work.
@@TreasuryRoad Thank you! I love your videos.........

Great video. Thanks! Is it possible to use this grout for mosaic glued with Weldbond to wooden substrate?
I cannot advise specifically regarding your job because there are always variables I cannot see. I did a test sample piece where I used Weldbond and grouted the piece with the Litokol Translucent grout and it worked for me, this was on a glass on glass piece not wood. In your case I would do a test first. :)

Quick question that may have been answered. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to being in the sun while working outside. Should the pieces not be left to set in sunlight?
I’m not sure what you mean, your questions needs more clarification.
Hi Peter,
Thanks for your informative video.
Do you suggest tjos translucent Grout with vitreous tile? As they are some sort of glass ones.
Thanks
HI Mozhdeh, Vitreous tiles are glass, if you watch this video I use some vitreous tiles with the translucent grout, works well. Thankyou for watching. :) ua-cam.com/video/irAGioFofXE/v-deo.html
Hi Peter thanks for your videos, very informative. Does translucent grout work well on a glass on wood piece? Or is it only meant for GOG? Thanks

Thanks very much Patricia, appreciate that, I think its a great product. :)
in my opinion, the translucent grout at least online or in videos looks gray to me.
So cool but wow - pricey. Maybe when I sell my first 4 figure mosaic I'll pick up a tub. Great to know it's out there.
Do you have a recommendation on products to seal this litikol translucent grout, please 🌻
The Litokol translucent epoxy grout doesn’t need sealing, it’s waterproof. 😊
@@TreasuryRoad Thanks so much! Yes the top lid was fine and so was the the epoxy bag. Just messy! Love your videos!
This has happened to both the containers I have ordered. They definitely need a this side up arrow. Love your videos Peter. I have watched this one ten times or more. I am timid about grouting.

DUH!!! one more question since I only ask a lot!!!
Will this product work on a vertical surface or will it sag? Looking to do store bought sea-glass tile around a mirror in the bathroom.
Thank you!

Should you be using a respirator mask with this product?
I would suggest reading the manufactures Safety Data Sheet so you can make an informed decision. I use a respirator mask when using all epoxy products including Art Resin. I also use gloves at all times when handling apoxie sculpt, even though they say only while your mixing the two parts together :)
I will be using this on a large commission if my proposal is accepted! I appreciate your channel so much.
Thankyou very much appreciate that. Also have a read of the safety data sheets as well so you can take the necessary safety precautions, these are also easy to read. Thankyou so much for commenting. :)
Can this be used mosaics which have different heights of tesserae? What should we be careful about in such case?
What does it mean to do a weldbond wash?
Here's a UA-cam video I made regarding a Weldbond Wash. You can also clean the wash off the surface of the tess once you've finished applying it, I didn't show this in the video. Others leave it on for the grout to remove it its a personal choice. :) ua-cam.com/video/koy5TGyuRi0/v-deo.html
Thanks Peter
My pleasure and thankyou for watching Milo. :)
Beautiful I love it
Thankyou so much its a wonderful product. :)
Still nervous about mixing the right proportions
I can understand that but it is very easy, when you mix it, mix it thoroughly scraping the sides and bottom as well for a few minutes. Do a small A4 size or half that test piece first this will give you the confidence. :)
What about the cost? Can you comment on that please?
The cost is dependent on where you are in the world It is more expensive than normal sanded grout but its well worth the extra cost because it is a specialty product and the benefits of this Litokol Translucent grout far out weigh the time and cost of multiple colour grouting. Its not there to replace your sanded grout but it does give you a choice on specific pieces. :)
Can you buy this in Australia
I would suggest watching the video and reading the video description as well.
Thank you
My pleasure and thankyou for watching and for the comment. 😊
Looks Gummying up ..? Instead of more fluid pasty or peanutbutter like Stuff
No it’s a pleasure to work with and clean up just a bit thicker.
Thank you. Gracias
Thankyou very much and my pleasure. 😊
What is a weldbond wash?
this will explain it I have created a video on it. :) ua-cam.com/video/koy5TGyuRi0/v-deo.html
What square footage will this container cover? Thank you
Sorry l don’t know, there is an online grout calculator, however it depends on the width of your grout lines and the depth of the Tess so there are variables that effect how much you mix. If you have a read of the manufactures technical data sheet that may tell you. They are easy to read and generally available on the manufactures or retailers website. I generally just gauge it whenever l mix any grout. Thanks for watching. 😊
is this okay on smalti...?
Generally Smalti isn't grouted because the grout can get into the pits and dull the beautiful faceting. :)
@@TreasuryRoad Yes, i know, but i thought maybe this wouldn't dull it...i was wondering because i am working on a piece that is mixed with smalti...thanks for answering, love your videos
@@phyllisbarr4766 Thankyou so much appreciate that. The Litokol Translucent may be fine but I would do a small test first. :)
😉ok thank you
I love your topics but your PPE is so dragged out.
That's why they have a fast forward button for those people that don't want to hear it. Its in there for those that want to know or may not know.
Fabulous from 🦎Florida🦩🌴
