Hey guys! I just wanted to say thank you all for 6k subscribers! The amount of love and support I’ve gotten on this channel so far has been incredible, so thank you! I really hope you guys enjoy this video, this is a special one for me for multiple reasons. As you’ll see when you watch it, these movies just remind me of being with my family. So here’s your message to go out and spend time with people you love! I hope you all have a fantastic day and I hope you enjoy the holidays, much love!
No. Everyone calls them stop motion there's a very big difference between claymation (Aardman + Wil Vinton) and stop motion (Laika, Rankin/Bass, Henry Selick). Animagic is just the special word they coined for their stop motion
My IMMEDIATE thought. Like the only claymation Christmas special is the one literally titled ‘Claymation Christmas Celebration’. Everything else is just stop-motion (Animagic in this case).
Oh wow. I remember growing up watching Santa claus is coming to town on ABC family, and when I was around seven or eight my teacher at school put a VHS version of it on. I was so shocked there were scenes I’d never seen before in the movie, especially Jessica’s song with the cool 60s visuals. It was a good reveal I’ll never forget.
3:30 the sky is green mostly cause the transfers for Rudolph have been abysmal color wise until right around this year. Its supposed to be blue but the film is so old alot of older prints have the wrong colors
I loved this video :D And yeahhh I completely agree, I remember ever since I was a kid I thought that scene where Santa just looms over the kid was creepy. It definitely kept little me awake at night- that and also the elf on the shelf tradition that always had me paranoid fr
Growing up, I always thought the snowman in Rudolph was supposed to be David Suzuki, a local TV host on the same channel that aired Rudolph every year. I never questioned this until this moment.
Winter seemingly NOT knowing how to walk doesn't make sense considering The Winter Warlock was shown WALKING through the forest when the animals hid baby Claus under the branches...
my boyfriend and I have been so obsessed with your channel. I think we watched the open season video 3 times now. Your channel deserves so much more recognition
It's weird because in Canada, I don't remember any of the scenes being cut like you mentioned - they were left in, unaltered. Rudolph also has some changes afaik, but they're less important and actually add to the film a bit.
I'm 33 and I watched Elf for the first time in well over a decade a couple of days before Christmas. Mind you, I've only seen it maybe 2-3 times back in my early teen years. Geez, why the f**k do some people not only consider it a holiday classic but put it ABOVE Home Alone on Christmas movie ranking lists?!
@@Aaron_Compton I did see that, thanks. I guess this is just something I'm shouting to the sky. I have always had a fascination for stop action, and so many people calling it "claymation " really twists my pants. Merry Christmas. :)
@ I went to like the video and was shocked at the small number, and then checked your subscriber number and had to do a double take. Your content is so well done and high quality I was expecting you to be in the 100k amount!! Your dedication and effort completely shines through in your videos
@@Aaron_Compton Oh, I forget you're young. That's from the theme song to Mystery Science Theater 3000, a TV show from the '90s about making fun of movies for being bad.... so... I thought it was appropriate.
Loved this format reviewing 3 films, none I had seen before except for out of context images haha, you could also really tell some of those things annoyed you for years lol. Anyways happy holidays to you Aaron 😉
Dude, they're not claymation. The animated figures have to be made of clay or plasticine for the animation to be considered claymation. Rankin/Bass shows are just stop-motion animation.
If you like joking around about Christmas movies, you have to watch the "Christmas in July" Rudolph and Frosty crossover. It is so elaborate and long and ridiculous and imo that's what makes it great.
I will never not find it odd that their first special was about talking reindeer, and yet the non-Rudolph specials have the reindeer unable to talk. Consistency, what's that?
I love that this video came onto my for you page after watching Rudolph, I told them to put the volume down cause- why does his nose made that sound when it glows- WHY
Fun video but a couple of corrections, one for you and one for your parents - 1) I am old enough to know that those problematic scenes...well yes, they were originally aired on broadcast. I know because I only saw it as a broadcast, and I remember them. Might be kind of interesting to find out when that stopped. 2) When I was very little, we lived in Canada. Everyone would hang out their laundry in winter, and it would immediately freeze solid. There is a process called sublimation, in which solids go directly to gases, and because the air is so dry, the ice goes directly to water vapor. Science fact for the day. My mom would know the laundry was dry when it started to wave in the breeze.
3:18 if you think this snowman is a creep. Just wait until you see the snowman in the 3d animated sequel. There's a 3d animated sequel, by the way. It's about as good as you think it is.
@Aaron_Compton but it has such a great cast. We've got: Richard dreyfuss as creeper snow man Jamie Lee curtis as a hippo fairy Rick moranis as the mysterious Mr enter
Man, Elf *irritates* me not because it’s not at all adorable or a good movie, but because everybody did the A Christmas Story thing to it over time and now I don't want to watch it all the way through. Like, for crying out loud, Elf would have been one of those movies I watch every year on my own time, but they had to run it into the ground with shit like Elf: the Musical and Buddy’s Musical Christmas and constant reruns!
All the people absolutely clowning you for calling it claymations (which is always what my fam called them too btw) is sending me specifically because you literally said they weren’t claymations. Also like this video is literally about the content who gaf what the nostalgic nightmare puppets actually are
I definitely understand their criticism because I am technically incorrect in calling them that, but you nailed it in the fact that in the intro I say that and that it’s not even close to the point of the video, so thank you for that 😂 Appreciate your comment!
I really don't want to bring up politics into a Christmas video but is it just me or do the miser brothers look like trump and biden? I just find that funny
Honestly I looked at your rudoff review and that’s enough for me it’s a bad review the jokes you made were unfunny the points you made don’t make sense
Yeah technically they're not CLAYmation. In fact they aren't CLAYmation at all. Stg the absolute blind confidence youtubers have to make video about a topic and not even know what the topic is
So I want to respond to this merely because a lot of people have commented about this, so just know this response is not specifically directed toward you. First of all I do mention in the intro that these technically aren’t claymation and they’re puppets because I do know these are technically called rankin/bass animagic stop motion. I called the video Christmas claymations because growing up my family always referred to them as such and from my own perception it seems like the general public calls them that as well, even if it is inaccurate. Of course I do not speak for everyone when I say that, but I just know when you look up Christmas claymations, these movies show up, so I wanted to mirror that for my own video so people might find it and watch it. And you are more than welcome to call me out for being shameless by trying to get more views with my title, that’s perfectly fair. But know too that this is nothing more than a dumb video about me making fun of these movies as a causal watcher, not a video of me trying to be as accurate as possible. My first language is and will forever be sarcasm 😂 Now if after all that anyone still doesn’t like the fact that I called them claymations or that I make fun of them in general, that is 100% fine! I know that I can be an acquired taste so if you don’t like me I simply ask that you don’t watch my content, it’s not for everyone and I totally understand that! I just hope you can find videos that are more suited for you. Thank you for your time!

Huge pet peeve of mine when people call all stop motion "claymation"
@@Aaron_Compton The characters were sculpted from wood, and they wear cloths made from real cloth.

Yeah when I first saw her song it felt like a fever dream. I agree though that it had some really cool visuals!
33:17 People in arctic environments do indeed dry wet clothing outside. The cold temperature evaporates the moisture in the items.

See I knew there had to be some truth behind my jokes about it, thanks for the answer!
its actually aways been green as it was a stylistic choice made by the animators, hope this clears things up!
