    I gotta say- PRS SE CE are the only PRS guitars I would ever buy. The bolt on neck rescues them from the low mid emphasis that has always turned me off from these guitars. Can’t wait to try one out!

    I owned TWO PRS SE custom 24 guitars made in Korea in the mid 2000’s. They sounded great, played great. But then I left one in a hot/humid room for two days and the neck twisted like a pretzel. Since it was a set neck, it couldn’t be repaired and I had to throw it out and I was left with only one SE which now never leaves my studio. Having guitars with bolt-on necks gives me a LOT of peace of mind because when the guitar warps (in my experience of owning 20+ guitars), the neck is always the first thing to warp. So getting a CE with a bolt on neck in satin finish will make me feel much more comfortable gigging and traveling with than the CE.

    Some people just prefer bolt-on necks.When i was first starting out as a teenager in the 90s, i had this belief that set neck and neck through designs were superior, but owning and playing many guitars eventually disabused me of this idea. I don't dislike set necks, but I've swapped necks on bolt on guitars before and I like having that option available to me. So, everything else being equal, I'm going to generally prefer bolt-on necks.

    • @mr.sorenzo
      @mr.sorenzo  9 місяців тому +1

      That’s more than fair. I agree with you 100% that it all comes down to personal preferences. I have never swapped necks on the guitar so I got a question: Have you ever changed the neck from one wood type to the other? If you did, was the tonal/sound impact of any significance?

    • @masatanida9119
      @masatanida9119 9 місяців тому +1

      I've never swapped a neck with a different wood type. I mean, bolt-on necks are almost always maple. On the other hand, i've swapped thin necks with thick necks and vice versa, and the thickness of a neck definitely makes a difference in how the guitar sounds. I swapped the neck of my 62 AVRI strat, which had a thin 60s neck, with a newer American Original 60s neck, which is quite a chunky neck, and it made a big difference in the way the guitar sounds. It's not necessarily "better", but it sounded '"deeper", warmer, and sustained longer. Warmoth's channel has a video (titled "Does Fat Neck = Fat Tone?") where they compare a thin neck and a thick neck on the same guitar and you can definitely hear a difference.
      I used to own a CE24 - solid black with dot inlays, just like what Alex Lifeson used to play in the mid to late 90s. It was a geat guitar. I'm not really into flame tops and bird inlays so that one really appealed to me. If PRSE made some SE CEs in solid colors and dot inlays, I would pick one up. But that's probably not happening.@@mr.sorenzo

    OK I'm going to comment here....I think PRS adding the CE24 to the SE lineup has to do more with filling a need as to the best of my knowledge the only other set neck design they offered in the SE was the Silver Sky....everything else is a Set Neck design. I also like that is does not have a painted gloss neck.
    As someone who has Fender, ESP, Jackson, Charvel and G&L guitars, I like bolt on necks better, I have owned set neck design guitars and while there is nothing wrong with them they just aren't my first choice.
    This is why I have purchased my first PRS and it arrives tomorrow a SE CE24, I think that offering the CE24 in the SE lineup will attract more players like me who prefer a bolt on neck. I wont even get into the all the people trashing PRS over the SE CE 24 when most likely 90% of them have never even picked one up. And I would be willing to bet that in a head to head most could not pick out which guitar was being played in a mix. Take away peoples eyes and make them use their ears it would be very interesting to see the results.
    Again I am not trying to ruffle any feathers this is just my opinion, yours may vary and there is nothing wrong with that. The main thing is if it attracts more people to the brand or to playing isn't that what its about.....It shouldn't matter if someone likes a $300 guitar or $10,000 guitar as long as its what they like, make them happy and they continue to play. Now if your talking about collecting and such that's a whole other ballgame!

    I just ordered a PRS SE CE24 Standard Satin and will take delivery next Tuesday. Yes, it looks very similar to the SE Custom 24 with the exception of the bolt-on scarfed neck, but the 'Satin' version further deletes the tiger stripe maple top for a plain mahogany body with a less labor intensive satin finish. All the other specs seem to be mostly the same as the SE Custom 24; all the stuff that counts. These cost reduction give the Standard Satin model an MSRP of $499.99, placing it dead on into the 'entry level' range. I've wanted to learn to play, but all the 'beginner' advice has been to get a good, playable out of the box guitar so you don't get frustrated by the shortcomings of typical 'affordable' guitars. I've seen a ton of "Here's a cheap Amazon guitar and what you'll need to do to make it playable" videos and I don't have the skills or tools to rework a questionable guitar or know if I was doing more damage to it or not.

    1. Se ce sounds a bit sharper / brighter like a strat (not a fan of the tone)
    2 se ce fret board is a bit of a struggle when played on.
    Se custom 24 sounds warmer and fret board is buttery smooth

    The SE CE line is built to meet a price point. The SE Silver Sky in my opinion is overpriced because it's a signature model. The SE CE 24s are the best value. I've got one on order and will check the quality, fret level/finishing and setup when it arrives at the GC store. I've seen setups and neck relief all over the place. Being made in Java Indonesia in a tropical climate, shipped over the ocean all over the world to hot, cold, high and low humidity climates that's to be expected. I even checked the weather from the warehouse to the store and it's pretty moderate which is a good sign. A guitar that's been through a sub zero blizzard or 120 degree summer weather isn't a good thing.

    I'm not totally sold on the idea that multi-ply necks being more solid than scarfed. I have several sarfed necks that have never needed as much as a truss adjustment. Maybe I've lived a charmed life in that respect, as I live in a state that is rarher famous for having all four seasons in a day, large variations in elevation, but tends to be on the dryer side of things climate-wise. However, I've even took them to sea-level; again, no warping, no fret creep, solid. Of course, I also keep the same string guages on them too. I typically pit .010's on my guitars from .009 and the only guitar I've had to do any truss adjustment was my PRS SE, and that came about 5 years after I bought it. My basses on the other hand, (all with multi-ply necks) have needed truss adjustments despite having the same guages put on them.

    • @mr.sorenzo
      @mr.sorenzo  10 місяців тому +1

      Great points! Theoretically, multi-ply necks are more solid structurally. That said, the quality of the build and the wood matter too and possibly are the reason why this is the case in you basses.
      Also there maybe other factors in the build of your guitars. Keep in mind, I’m comparing two guitars (24 and CE) from the same manufacturing factory, with the same wood type, that are so similar that their differences really come down to the points I mentioned in the video.
      And by the way, there are necks that are the mix of the two: they are multi-ply necks but have a scarfed joint construction. In PRS SE CE the scarfed neck is a single piece

      @@mr.sorenzo I get the point of the video. I too have a SE Custom 24-7 7-string. I adore it, despite it being the only guitar I own that has needed any neck adjustment. And yes, mileage may vary as far as the quality of wood is available. I'm just not fully sold on the science behind the claim that multi-ply necks are more solid, as my aforementioned experience states versus the claim made. I do appreciate the esthetic of the multi'-ply necks, and the ones I have played (guitar/bass) have felt great. I'm not looking to cast dispersion upon anyone who has, or uses multi-ply necks. I'm just saying that this choice is based purely on time and cost/strength is dubious on its face.

While custom 24 SE has inflated during years( remembered it was like 800euros and now its more like 1000euros) its still more expensive cheap midrange guitar). But Standard has always been same and its value its insane. I find it wierd that standard models have neck binding while customs doesnt. Excpet the new quilted SE custom 24 model. CE is definitly cheaper to make but being on same price as custom 24 used to be , is not the best. But yeah best still way is to try them live and just go for the one which feels better/sound better. Tonewood in electric guitars IS relevant because different woods have different densities that convey vibrations to create sustain and tonality.
      As a guitarist over 45 yrs, 20 pro, I know for FACT you get more sustain and richer tomes from denser woods. Direct mounting pickups vs floating has effects as well as bolt on vs set necks. Still don't believe me? Put PAFS in a Strat and see if it sounds identical to a Les Paul. It will NOT.
      Still don't believe me?
