One of the most appealing and brilliant things about this camera, IMHO, is the fast aperture lens! How do you think the video, AF and dynamic range compare to the LX100 mk1? I haven't heard many comparisons, and from what I gathered through the DPreview review, the only real step up is the megapixel count in stills (or at least that's all I remember). Mk1 is going for very cheap now that the second version is out, so it's very interesting as a flexible travel or street shooter for many I think.
I have never used mark I so I unfortunately can't tell you that. There is a lot of improvement besides the sensor like addition of touch scree and new UI, which makes huge difference, it supports USB charging, and one of the most important updates is that it uses new color science from G9 and GH5 and so on.
Hello my friend! After 8 months from the review, did you heard any complain about dust issues? I've read somewhere that Panasonic took some measures to prevent it and improve dust resistance from mk 1, but i had not found any confirmation ...
Nice & informative video. Good presentation en information, combined withvarious settings picktures and video's. Also nice pictures of Bratislava, been there lots of times!
How is the image quality compared to the G9? I found the G9 to struggle for landscape shooting when lifting shadows. The dynamic range wasn’t great so I sent it back.
Hi, After having sold my RX100 V due to its ergonomics, I want to replace it with another compact camera. Many options are quite old now, but nobody knows if there will ever be a replacement. Can you share your feedback on these 3 models in 2022? - Panasonic LX100 mk2 - Canon G1X mk3 - Canon G5X mk2 I am mainly a photographer (family, travel or simply what I like in street or nature). only occasional video in family events. My priorities are (not in order, all are important): - Good autofocus - Low light performance - Ergonomics/manual controls - Good IQ in general (sharpness, DR) - Zoom lens, not an ILC but a compact camera - From LX100 mk2 I like everything but autofocus performance. - From G1X mk3 I like everything but the aperture for its lens. - From G5X mk2 I like its extra reach (24-120 instead of 24-70). Which camera would you recommend to me, from those 3 or maybe another one? Thanks a lot!
I definitely don't recommend Canon compact cameras, I have only used G7X III, but it was a very poor camera even by 2019 standards. I wouldn't recommend LX100 II in 2022 either. Generally, the only two compact cameras that I recommend are Sony ZV-1 and RX100 VII, depending on whether you need that kind of focal range.
Thanks for your feedback, but I don't like their ergonomics at all. I also own a Sony RX10 mk4, which I love. I am looking for an smaller camera which, if possible, provides better low light capabilities. If there is nothing by now, I will stay with my RX10 only.
this camera is still excellent. At the very worst, the iq is the same as the RX100 series (but it’s actually slightly better). Rx100 wins in compactness but if you enjoy using something that actually feels like a camera, it’s not even a contest between the rx100 series.
@@jayk3642 If the IQ is only the same as with 1" RX100 series cameras or with ZV-1 (which it basically is) that is very bad news for LX100, since the RX100 destroy it in terms of the AF and feature set.
@@TheHybridShooter True, but given the fact that you can get an lx100 for a few hundred bucks, unless you're looking for something you can stuff in your jeans, i'd bet that most photographers would find everything about the lx100 more enjoyable

Very good review, interesting and innovative use of the sensor with the aspect ratio button in this way. One thing I noticed is that in the end you mentioned that for its size in can't be matched by anything else, for street work I've been completely crazy about the Ricoh GR series, granted, it doesn't have the zoom that this LX100 II (or Leica Q7 for that matter) has, but I'm considering this camera as option to replace my Ricoh GR. I'd say they serve a similar public and are worth comparing?
Thank you! I have never used GR, so I can't comment on that. Due to the crop, it isn't very far from latest 1" Sony cameras which have better feature set, so this is even more nice camera nowadays.
Nice video in Bratislava. I've been there many times virtually during my Google Maps Street View tours. I miss that city, even though I haven't been there😂
Does a experienced novice photographer is better to get D Lux 7(LX100 II) than Leica CL because it cover more things it can do and it has analog control, if you don’t have money for all the lenses?
03:00 you mentioned you like the color rendering, do you by chance have a comparison with the original one? I really HATED the original LX100 color profile and that's why I'm still on the fence getting the II, thanks!
Would this camera be good for a beginner photographer? I was looking at the canon eos m50, but this has been catching my eye lately. I realize it isn't a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, but it seems pretty high quality still.
I would say no, this camera is intended for advanced users, who can appreciate specific features. Sony A6100 / A6400 is currently the best choice for beginner, much better than M50.
Hello, William. Thank you for a nice review of this interesting camera. In your video comparison of leica and lumix 12-60mm lenses you talk about richer pictures of leica lens (almost 3 dimensional) due to better contrast and colour rendition. Would this apply also to the lens on lx100ii? Do you know wether it will be upgrade of this camera? Thanks again for your efforts.
Not really, the lens on this camera is average at best by 2021 standards. If you want "rich look" I recommend choosing system with larger sensor format.
@@TheHybridShooter Thank you for the swift responce. Do you mean FF with larger sensor here? I am still looking at sony 6xxx (APS sensor), but there is a problem to find budget friendly alternative to kit (zoom) lens ...
Do you know, if the HDMI output provide clean signal in this camera? Do you happen to know how was about it in previous iteration of LX100 and in LX15 for that matter? I wonder if it could be used as a high quality small overhead webcam with capture card just like Sony RX100 III-VA could be?

I have the original version of this camera and have experienced no dust on the sensor. I don't carry it in a pocket, I keep it covered when not in use and I clean the exterior once a month.
I have the panasonic lf1 and compared to my canon s120 it doesn't display my manual settings on the screen unless I press the shutter button half step. I find myself using the s120 more often because of this feature. Does the lx100 mkii have this feature?
@@TheHybridShooter Yes, I know about the specs, which are quite similar apparently, but what about real life comparison? The RX100 Va is 100$ cheaper, but it seems it should best the LX100 II on many aspects. BTW You say larger sensor, where you should have said larger pixel count (21.7 > 20.1) but Sony's sensor is a 1" APSC where Panasonic's is a M4/3 which is significantly smaller in size. Sony's should be better in low light and high ISO. Lenses are pretty close in terms of range and aperture (24-75 @ 1.7-2.8 > 24-70 @ 1.8-2.8) so image quality would be measured on a pretty equal basis. Would be nice if you could get your hands on one (the Va not the VI, too expensive) and make a side by side comparison. Should be very interesting.
The autofocus on the RX100 series is infinitely better, especially in video. Burst capability is much better as well. That being said, low light performance and lens speed definitely take a hit. And here's the biggest minus for the RX100 series apart form the VI (which is horribly overpriced); the lack of touchscreen. I don't know what sony was thinking excluding a touchscreen from all of the RX100 series cameras except the most stupidly overpriced variant
Paul Van Obberghen RX100 series doesn't use APS-C sensor, it uses 1" sensor which is much smaller than M43 in LX100 II, so what I said is correct. Something like RX100 V will be faster, smaller, it has rotatable screen and so on, but LX100 II is category above RX100 series for serious shooting. I don't have any RX100 series camera at the moment, so I can't do that.
Hope #Leica, #Lumix, #Panasonic will continue with this product, a #LX100III and a #DLux9. The camera is small enough, I am used with DSLR, no reason for people to complain about size. I would make it a little bigger (GX9 size) to accommodate IBIS, new M4/3 sensor, full size no aspect ratio switch, PADF. A screen like the X100VI. to make it more vintage, ISO dial like the X100VI or like the Leica M11. The B&W of the Z F is a good idea. Internal memory and enough room for picture control or User personal JPG Recipes.
Too bad & weird that this fantastic street camera doesn't have a tilting rear screen for shooting at different angles, as well as a little weather sealing.
I bought the original LX100 for many reasons, but one of the reasons I bought it is because it doesn't have a tilting screen. I feel it makes the camera feel far more solid and premium.
Good review. interesting how they crop the sensor. I have the G9 and the GX85 (USA) and was looking at the new GX9. but as some youtube reviews have pointed out, its only a small upgrade form the GX85, I will wait for the GX10 and see what they do. A bit off topic, but I have seen some youtubers talk about Panasonic going full frame and what that means for MFT. I think MFT will continue to be a very good system for years to come, as it lets you get great reach out of zoom lenses, much cheaper and lighter, smaller for travel than full frame. I have seen brilliant photos shot on MFT, especially for digital publishing and consumption which is largely what I do.
Thank you, I also believe that both Panasonic and Olympus will continue with developing M43, since the is sufficient space between FF and M43 which may not be truth about FF and APS-C.
Leaf shutter for the win!...but the original LX100 will get u that for half the price. Panasonic pretty much ignored all youtube reviews of the original and the desires for the “LX200”. They could have killed it. This camera will not sell as well as the original. So sad.
As I have said it, it is a niche camera, meant for specific group of users who are happy with this feature set. Panasonic fortunately makes other cameras with requested features, but also adequate size.
The Hybrid Shooter thanks for your reply. I’ve been looking at the LX100 II, but I’m not an expert, I just want something that will take good pictures rather than using my phone?

Do you know, if the HDMI output provide clean signal in this camera? Do you happen to know how was about it in previous iteration of LX100 and in LX15 for that matter? I wonder if it could be used as a high quality small overhead webcam with capture card just like Sony RX100 III-VA could be?
great cameras but what about the dust issue? seen it mentioned in a few reviews of the older version
I have only had it for a week, very long time ago, so I can’t tell you much about that.
This camera is one of my first choices if it had angle variable monitor
Take a look at GX9 then.
Excellent video & very informative!
Thank you!
Is the autofocus in Video the same as in GX9 for both 1080p and 4K ?
Yes, it is similar, GX9 is faster with some lenses and slower with other lenses.
ok, this LX100 II or Leica D-Lux 7 then?
Those are the same cameras, so it depends on which design you like more.
@@TheHybridShooter :-] Leica, of course, it has better Jpeg software and mainly has Leica App for direct wifi photos sharing, three years guarantee etc. /not to mention much higher resale value even after several years/
@@petrsumbera8567 I like the design of LX100 II, JPEG processing is the same, which is a good thing, since it uses G9 color science. LX100 II also comes with 5 year warranty here, not sure how it is world-wide.
hey there! very nice! do you know if there is a way to set the shutter button to start / stop recording? I know that the lx100 mk1 can do it, but I can‘t find the settings in the mk2. have a nice day!
Thank you! Unfortunately, I don't own an LX100 II, so I can't answer that. My guess is that it is possible.
Hello, Do you recommend this camera for real estate photography?
Something with ultra-wide lens would be probably be better for that.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks. I decided to go with Sony Alpha a6000 Mirrorless Digital Camera with 16-50mm Lens. Do you agree?
@@annapinto274 it is not a bad choice.
I’m a beginner photographer, I was only taking photos with my phone and realized it didn’t capture anything (iPhone 6). I was thinking of getting this cause I travel a lot, should I?
It is a very good camera, but also take a look at my GX9 and LX100 II comparison. GX9 might be more suitable for you.
How’s this compare to LUMIX LX10.?
Please compare LX100II with RX100V.
I unfortunately don't have RX100 V so I can't do that.
Looks like a nice camera 💯👍 I’m still impressed with my old LX10
It sure is, LX10 is also very good 1" camera.
some know what is approx the shutter life for this camera acording on Panasonic? i cant find this information, to value the purchase of secondhand...ty
Still have the first gen one... still waiting on the 3rd iteration for some changes.
That will be a long waiting.
@@TheHybridShooter yup. Another 4 heard? Maybe if prices drop. But man I love this small thing but evf and tilt like Fuji would make this amazing
I may have missed it, but what about the sensor dust issue of the LX100 mark 1, did this camera made any attempt to address that issue?
That is not clear, I haven't seen any issues reported on mark II but it hasn't been out that long.
@@TheHybridShooter Still no weather sealing on the mark II though?
No, cameras like this are not weather sealed due to the size.
@@TheHybridShooter Thanks!
Yes, you can see the settings on the screen.
You have the best voice for tech reviews
Thank you!
Another great overview on a new camera 👍 Based on your review I am a candidate for this camera but will stick with my GX85 and G85 for now.
Thank you, GX85 is also good alternative if you with suitable lenses.
Does the Leica Dlux 7 have the same poor viewfinder (resolution)? I'd pay more for that if so.
Yes, D-Lux 7 is basically the same camera.
@@TheHybridShooter thanks ...
How does the LX100 II compares with the similarly priced Sony RX100 Va (even little cheaper) or VI (more expensive)?
It has larger sensor, better image quality, it is a bit bigger and doesn't have forward facing screen.
@@TheHybridShooter Sorry about sensors size confusion. Still, when you have a chance, a "real life" comparison would be nice.
amazing city, where is it?
Very helpful insight! Thanks!
Very thorough. A great presentation.
Thank you!
Great review. Thank you.
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
FF equiv. 24-70 F3.5-5.6 is impressive for this size! But the price is too steep for me. I'd rather get GX9+20mm F1.7 or 15mm F1.7
It sure is, GX9 with primes will provide better image quality, but it is much less versatile.
Pre mňa ako turistu, ktorému sa nechce vláčiť ani len FZ1000, toto vyzerá ako ideálne riešenie. Na krajinárske foto veľký zoom aj tak nepotrebujem. Diky za výborné videjko.
Vzhľadom na pokrok 1" senzorov s technológiou BSI by som momentálne už asi išiel cestou niečoho zo Sony RX série namiesto tohoto.
What is the camera on the left at 0:55 ?
Thanks. Very helpful video.
Thank you!
LX100 line has already been canceled.
Are you from Bratislava?
Yes, I am.
@@TheHybridShooter Recognized the spots in the video 😉
Is it good for Astro photography
No, it isn't.
Best review on the platform
Thank you!
it is a very complete device to evolve towards, the quality photo. the practice of this device is very pleasant.
Can you comment on the high speed flash sync capabilities? Clean HDMI video out?
I has clean output, I have never used flash with this camera.
Excellent review!
Thank you!
Too bad & weird that this fantastic street camera doesn't have a tilting rear screen for shooting at different angles,
as well as a little weather sealing.
That would make it bigger so it wouldn't be so fantastic street camera... it is all about compromises.
I ll take 2 extra mm@@TheHybridShooter
Thank you for this unbiased video!
You're welcome, thank you for watching!
Great honest review. What compact camera would you recommend for travel?
Thank you, GX9, X-T30 and LX100 II are currently my most favorite travel cameras.
The Hybrid Shooter thanks for your reply. I’ve been looking at the LX100 II, but I’m not an expert, I just want something that will take good pictures rather than using my phone?
It will certainly take much better pictures thank your phone :)
Excellent review
Thank you!
Does this camera accept a 43mm B+W nano mrc protection filter?
yep
Bratislava... been there. Fantastic place. Great people
I'm glad that you liked it!
Love the lX100II
Beautiful Bratislava
this camera reminds me a lot of the old fuji X10
this is superb travel camera...
I really like it. But not for that price...
Get the first lx100, same quality and performance and cheap
@@jorgem50 / exactly my thoughts.
in fact this review just confirmed it for me. ABSOLUTELY the same thing butLX100 is cheaper
