It's about time someone did a video on how good these little amps sound instead of knocking them for not sounding like a full blown plexi. Personally I have the Orange Crush Mini and it's amazing either on it's own or through another cab. Great video Dagan.
I love these gear reviews. Dagan is positive and passionate about affordable gear "That doesn't suck" I like the positivity and the real info and real sounds of the actual things he's talking about. I am an adult beginner and I don't buy anything unless I consult Dagan's videos first! He has not let me down yet!
You Sir are without question the MOST enthusiastic and energetic entity on UA-cam. Nice Vid, Love your stuff! Almost forgot, I have two Boss Katanas and they sound great. it's so cool to run your stereo effects units into a couple of mini amps. You can get high end sound with low volume and low price. You can't beat that.
Man this fella is infectious. I watched this video to get an idea for a gift but level of enjoyment on display made me buy an epiphone les Paul for myself instead. I haven’t got a fecking clue how to play it though
Even in this age, this guy is such rock and roll! It's awesome watching him! Edit: "Show me something more adorable that isn't a puppy." - Best said dialogue about a mini amp, ever.
I want to criticize his tone techniques, but I passionately support guitarists and guitar advocates, and my critique seems just mean. He seems like a really good guy and I feel bad about critiquing any guitarists. So I applaud him as more like a hero.
2 years on from when this came out - and it’s made me realise that I’ve made a good decision to buy a Vox Amplug 2 - gone for the Clean model as I love folk, blues and jazz and those clean tones are superb!
I know it’s two years later... I have the new Blackstar SuperFly with extended 12W cab. It fn rocks. I got the deluxe main amp package. Came with rechargeable portable battery with USB port, flashlight, and another 9v fm port for extended cab. Also came with batteries as well. Other treats include nice carry bag with plenty of pocket space. The bag is set up so you don’t even have to take the amp out of the bag!!! Sweet. I’m very picky about my gear and keeping it looken nice. Only wish is that the cab came with a bag. Oh, with carrying the bag; it feels like a camera-bag. It is well worth the money. Very lite too. Cab came with batteries and mic cord.
you're the best reviewer around, no doubts. I just have doubts which mini amp I'd take... If I could, would have one of each. But I'd stay between the VOX AC2 because of the drums, Laney because of the possibility to connect the app with the 1000 effects and the Fender, because that sound is simply awesome! Hard choice.
I take my guitar to work and practice on my breaks. I was looking for a mini transistor radio size amp to be more stealthy walking into work without a bulky guitar AND a bulky amp AND my lunch. These mini amps have gotten smaller and better over the years. This review has helped a lot on my decision. Thanks.
I use a Boss Katana Mini 7w most of the time. I also use the Orange Crush Mini ($69 Amazon) into a Orange 20 watt non-powered Orange cab ($99 Amazon) with my board when I am busking or do not feel like dragging my heavy amplifier around to small bar gigs or coffee shops. Very compact and portable. Can fit into a large backpack or duffle bag. It does not need to plug into a wall socket. Just needs one 9v battery. i power my Orange mini with a rechargeable power bank that powers my pedal and my orange mini. I used to have a Fender tonemaster and was a bit of disappointed in its sound. I loved my Vox Mini but it eventually died. First the main speaker went out on one of them and the other one i had the vocal in went out. Loved the sound while it lasted. Instead of trying to get them fixed i decided to sell one and gave away the other.
I rewired the speaker on my Orange micro crush to a 1/4 jack socket to use as a speaker out. Plugged into a Marshall cab it sounds HUGE and has that real Orange tone. I can also vouch for the Blackstar Fly, which you don't feature here. Amazing amp. Especially for £40. I use it everyday and never wish I had a bigger amp with me!
It was worth for me as I bought the bundle with second speaker and power adapter. The bundle costed 30 Euro more than buying the Fly 3 alone. The second speaker add some space to your sound and it´s great if you use the amp as speaker to listen to music as well. I actually find the Blackstar speakers are way better than most speaker for computer you can buy within the same price range. So potentially you can replace the speakers of your computer with the BS Fly 3 and its second speaker.
Nice comparison!! Blackstar has a fantastic mini amp which is called Fly3 as you may know. It is smaller, lighter, and more affordable than katana mini.
